Ed: I tried to post here a photo I put on railimages. I did the forum code as normal, but when i previewed, I got the standard Icon for a picture that hasn't come in (the broken window thing) followed by
www.railimages.com/albums/johnwood/acn.jpg"border"="0"style='cursor:default'onload='resizeImage(this);onClick='doimage'(this event)>
Do you know what it means? If the photo needs resizing to show on the forum, it's strange, because the railimages upload of these photos didn't need resizing. If it does need resizing, how do I do that?
The photos in question are the last ones on page 2 of the main album.

Very good Dan, what brings you tho this side of the tracks? I was very bummed to see that detective story was panned by the critics. You seem to have a real talent there. It was very clever how you had woven all the personalities into the story. I hope you saved all the chapters.

Is it modeling season in California yet? There is that inspiring chill in the air here.[swg]

John, the forum has an auto resize feature. You can bypass that by using the "[ img.nr]" command. It looks like you just forgot part of your URL "http://".

I don't recommend the bypass, because it can force the screen to go wide, which is rather annoying. By allowing the forum to do the resizing, you can still click on the photo and see the fullsized version. Here's the comparison.

Good Evenin' Everybody,
Today turned out to be a busy day. Shawna wasn't any better this morning, and she'd just about finished her meds, so I took her back to the doctor. He says she's likely to get worse before she starts to improve. He also wants her to stay home and not go back to college for 2 more weeks. We can do that. Tomorrow I'll get in touch with the powers that be at college and see what they say about this. That would put her out of classes for 3 weeks total. The important thing is getting her well again. Everything else, including college, is piddley stuff. I never had Mono, and I'd forgotten how severe it can be.

After we got back from the doctor, I had to get a perscription filled for her. They opened up early voting in Georgia today, and the polling place is just a few blocks from the drug store. So while they were filling the script, I went and voted. That was a good thing. I really like the idea of letting people vote over a larger block of time than just one day. It makes it a lot easier, and that should improve turnout considerably.

Needless to say, there hasn't been a lot of railroading done lately. I've gotten a little done on the Branchline coaches, but not much. I'll get back to it later.

Piemandan and Pistol Pete, Welcome to the coffee shop. The coffee and tea are always on and always good, and the conversation is pretty good too. Have a cup on me and enjoy.

Teffy, you are really making progress on the turntable. Sounds like you're having fun with it too. There's nothing wrong with a little picking and teasing among friends. If you can't pick at your friends, who can you pick at?

Jim, how did you do with the poison ivy? That stuff is no fun. We have quite a lot of it in the natural area down below the house. I keep it cut back and sprayed to control it as best I can. It comes up somewhere else and I kill it again. It's really bad news.

Fergie, the rock faces look good. Tell us how you're doing them.

Did ya'll see the photo of the day today? It's Norfolk Southern's GP-59 #4610, painted in Southern Railway green. They painted it originally in 1994 to celebrate the Southern's 100th birthday. The cool thing is that last year they repainted it and kept it in the Southern's colors. I think that was a pretty cool thing for a giant corporation to do.

I'd better go for now, cause it's been a long day.
Have a good evening everybody,
Tom

Phil:

Thanks for this Phil, but I'm not too sure I understand what you mean by "opened connectors"[D)], or what problem I'm having that you are solving.[%-)] the slide out hatches on my mountain section have the same trapezoid geometry as the door module, and seem to be working fine. The door module is aligned and connected electrically by old style computer connectors. (see the site in my signature for details). [:)]

Big_Boy: Thanks for you're encouraging pulling in of my photo. I'm pretty sure I put in the http:// bit. However I noticed that it was missing in the pre-view, it's position being taken by the broken window icon.
I'm putting the normal code for a photo here, and we'll see what happens.

Ah! that's better! Here's a look at the main access hatch removed from the rock wall. You can see from the first photo where it goes.

Must get over to a fiboptic seller online and order their variety pack. Then I can build the block signals to show track occupancy in the upper tunnel.[8D]

Tom: Please let Shawna know that there are a bunch of folks thinking of her, and praying for her recovery.

Goodnight, and God Bless.

Hot Dang! The Pack is back. Yea, I know. I live in north Texas and should be a Dallas Cowboys fan. Well I was born and raised in Wisconsin so If I do root for a team it's the Pack. Besides I don't like Jones Or Parsell.

Teffy; I'm still working. Now on November 13 I'll be 62 and will be able to get full bennefits on my company retirement. I told my boss that after the 13th be nice or I'm gone in an instant. I work for Six Flags Over Texas. I am an animation technician leadman. That title dosen't mean much since I'm now the only one doing animations here. Yes, I go through Cow Town. I get on I-30 about three miles from the house and go right to the park. The stock yards were really something. When I got back from Viet Nam in 67, I'd go and drive over the 28th street bridge and look at all the stock cars. Six tracks maybe a mile or more long full of them. Really something to see. Funny, I'm watching a program on PBS about the stock yards now. How bout that for a co-inkydink?

Did anyone see the post that I made yesterday titled Uncoupling Magnets? I looked for it tonight and could not find it. If something happened to it I'll re-post it here.

Fergie; The rocks look good. Paper huh. I've never tried that. I made a couple of molds from some rocks today. I had some silacone that was past it's shelf life and couldn't be used for making serious molds, so rocks.

Well I'm going to sign off. See y'all later.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

I’m a bit late checking in today. I’ve stopped by to read posts a couple of times but had a few things that kept me off the keyboard for most of the day (a life?).

Thanks for covering for me, Noah, but it probably bears repeating………..

How about them Red Sox!!!!!

Welcome Pistol Pete!!! [#welcome] Need all the support for the Red Sox we can get here.

I was originally writing that I hadn’t seen you check in today, Tom, but as I was working on this I saw your post. What the doctor is saying sounds familiar. I think I was out of school around 4 weeks when I had it. I felt better after about a week and a half, but was real weak for another good while. Hope the school authorities make an exception and allow her to rejoin her class after the illness, and hope Shawna gets to feeling well enough to start studying while she’s convalescing.

Teffy, it sounds like you’re making good progress on the turntable. I’m glad you have something taking your mind off tracklaying.
QUOTE: Mrs. "T" came upstairs yesterday and said "my goodness, how are you going to run trains, it's a m.e.s.s.?"

No, Teffy, the MESS is Fergie’s road…………..

QUOTE: …do you have four seasons a year? Except for Christmas do you have a winter?

No, not really. So far it looks like we have two principal seasons. We have a “Hot” season, which is very hot and slightly less wet that the ‘Wet” season, which is wet and slightly less hot that the “Hot” season, which……. Sandwiched in there somewhere we have winter, which is a couple of months of cool, gray weather. It gets down into the 40’s. No guarantee that it will be cool at Xmas.

Gives new meaning to “Bad Hair Day”, eh Jim? And you compounded it by getting into the poison ivy??? [(-D] Did you have the dog with you while railfanning? She probably would have appreciated the chance to get out and see the trains too.

Congrats on getting changed to days.

Fergie, I think the rock cut base is okay. The truth will be in the painting. Depends on how good a job you do on base color, highlights, etc. Is it really kraft paper?

Noah, I actually thought that Boblonian was even younger. His brother was Cody, I thought he was the one who was 10. Or did I get them reversed? The stuff the younger one posted certainly didn’t seem like it came from a 10 year old. But since neither hung around more than a day or so they don’t really count.

QUOTE: FlaPhil: Slowgon- SOMEDAY YOUR GOODS WILL COME

I like it. How about “We will deliver no package before it’s time?”

Good to see you here again, Dan. I liked the story too. Very Dashiell Hammett-ish.

Tunnel and hills are looking good, John. I can just visualize all that blue foam as SNOW drifts! It made me realize that I don’t have enough foam to complete all my terrain. It’s not available down here, so I may have to get a sheet when we make the border run next month. Glad the photo posting problem got sorted out.

Gee, all you guys decide to log on and post at the same time. I think I’m caught up on comments, if I’ve missed anything ask me again.

Okay guys. We’re up 2-0 on the Cardinals. But that doesn’t mean anything. We were up 2-0 on the Mets in the ’86 Series too. Great performance by Schilling again last night. We gratefully accept all good wishes, prayers, and curse-reversing amulets.

Well, I haden't intended to post again so soon. Welcome to Pete. Have a cup on the house, I'll lend you the ladder. Ouch, that should let you know what kind of goof balls you'er dealing with here. No kidding, they are a great bunch, very helpfull and funny sometimes.

The other reason that I posted again is that I've got the include profile signature block checked on both the quick reply and post new reply, but it didn't include. I'll try again and see what happens.

Shawna; Hope that you start feeling better soon.

Hi All [:)]

Since I have to get up at 3 am I should be in bed now. But night owls have a hard time doing that you know.

Chris and I may not exactly see eye to eye on railroads but when it comes to baseball that is a different story. You see we have a plan, don't we Chris? We are lulling them into a false sense of security and then BAM, dashing them upon Fergie's (good looking) rocks. The curse will kick in any time. Sorry Ed, we will take no prisoners. It is all or nothing. We have them right where they want us. [;)]

I am not a fair weather fan either. I have Cardinal shirts, caps, mugs, and a shot glass and have had them for years. I also like the Royals but poor fellows can't seem to put many games in the "W" column.

Well if anyone noticed my hair (or lack thereof) noone said anything. But I don't work with these ladies on a daily basis so they might not have really known. Hat week will continue though, and maybe this Saturday I can do a little damage control. [;)] I am certainly glad that everyone is getting a kick out of my hair, or what there is left of it anyway. (Like it needed help to decide to begin leaving.) It, well some of it, will be back. (Maybe, hopefully, cross your finger and hope to die.)

I was partly successful in the fight with the poison ivy/oak. There are a few boils and I have cream on them. Hopefully they will go away in a few days.

Well I am off to bed. It is only 945, have to walk the dog first. And yes she did go railfanning with me, but she stayed in the truck. It was 81 or so but all the windows were down and she was sticking her head out the windows. Funny, no one messes with my truck when they see a Doberman sitting in it. She is red/rust and was the "runt" of the litter. But she was the last red the lady had so I got her. She is a little small for her age but makes it up in her bark. She is not mean, but plays very rough.

Latter all. [:)]

Paul, I did see your magnet topic go by, but it had no responses. With all of the new topics, and all the stuff On30francisco digs up, it got buried. All you have to do is go in a few pages, probably 3 or 4, find it and bump it back to the top. An easy way to do that is to edit it by adding a space at the end. If you want to say more that works too.

Dan, stick with us here. Lousey food, but great conversation. That could be our slogan.

I promise, NO MAYONAISE on your steak, (if we can catch a cow). I'm sure we can find some cowcatchers around here. If we can't find a cow, will moose do?[swg]

ARK - "we got you covered"
ARK - "rain never hurt... well, maybe once"
ARK - "we're double booked"
ARK - "dry shipments only"

to add a slogan of my own... ( I need help here... obviously)
CASTAWAY Railroad - never missed

CASTAWAY Railroad - we cherish your junk
CASTAWAY Railroad - we'll take it from anyone
CASTAWAY Railroad - everything stays here

... now how about a Mocha - hit me.

cheers, krump

First Off I'll start by saying that I'm rather "miffed" by the change in the banner. There has been nothing wrong with the recipe's I've been selflessly handing out. How you prepare them and even desecrate them is entirely up to you but don't blame me for the "lousy" food served around here! Bunch of Hyper-Critics.

BTW I had BBQ steak yesterday, rare as rare could be! Did it in a Montreal steak spice and basmalic vinegar plus several secret ingredients. The thing melted in my mouth. The Potato salad was good too. So much for lousy food!

I was making good progress with the paper yesterday until someone commented about tree planting. Ok a slight oversight and yes maybe I should have packed some Styrofoam underneath. Thank you John for pointing out my inadequacies, Not!!

It's OK John with the amount of shellac and paint that's going on the craft paper it should be very rigid by the time we are finished.

Ed: I agree with you %100 on the rock thing. Painting will determine if this is viable or a failed attempt. Yes it is craft paper and I'm not 100% sold on it quite yet but for less then $5 on supplies and several hours I'm willing to experiment. I was looking at rock cuts yesterday and depending where one goes this may be passable for local geography but the rock cuts I've seen don't quite match this face. Nova Scotia geology, along with Newfoundland's geology is some of the most diverse in North America. Everything from oil, gold, salt, gypsum, coal, iron ore, sand stone, gravel, you name it it's here.

As you can see it's coming. John is right I will have to put in some support to give it strength. How about extruded foam from a can. I'll try it and get back to you.

Fergie

Good Morning All:

If the title is going to be changed how about "Your itty bitty TEA shop" For those of you that think the food is not good - you haven't eaten at Fergies. I HATE FISH but he served some salmon that was just deliousis (SP). ***** Well I see that one of the picture posters is having fun because the margins just increased.***** Now my halfhimmers has kicked in and I forgot where I was going. It's hard to believe that in six months we've put up 140 pages. Of course I know that 60 of them were put up while I was on vacation so it would take me a long time to catch up, but I read fast. It is nice to read all of the slogans that ya'll are comming up with.

Ed:
Is the fall trip to Houston still on, or should I say back on? If it is let me know and I'll get the railroad cleaned up. At three this morning I realized that I've got to cut a 15" dia hole in the 3/4" plywood for the TT. I can't take it outside as it's got to much track on it so I'm going to have to do it in the train room and dust will be everywhere, even with an exhaust fan in the window.

Tom:
Give my regards to Shawna - I hope the school will understand. Has the student body had any reprocussions from this outbreak. When I was in college about half of one fraturnity (SP) was out with mono in one semester.

Fergie:
I enjoyed the phone conversation last night and will look for some super empire builders.

I feel like their are some more issues but I've got a lot of stuff to get done today so I'm gone to go

Ya'll have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Good Morning Coffee Clubbers

Just back from the morning walk with DW and the dogs. Nice morning but it will be another hot one.

Paul, I saw the magnet post also, but as I don't use automatic uncoupling I didn't have any comment either. When I checked last night it had already dropped to near the bottom of page 3.

Jim, this could be your big chance to shave your head and test drive how it will be in a few years. Think of all the time you'd save in the mornings. No messing around in front of the mirror. Just wipe it down with a handy wipe and off you go!

QUOTE: Funny, no one messes with my truck when they see a Doberman sitting in it.

Can't imagine why....................

Elliot, I have no problem with the name change but you might want to change 'lousey' to 'lousy' before the CPP (Correctness in Posting Police) get a glimpse of it. You're already on their watch list. I agree in not emphasizing the 'food' aspect. Don't need people trying to turn this place into something like the Trains Magazine forum coffee shop. Want to consider going back to the original thread title?

Fergie, I think your idea about the foam in a can might be the answer. But I'd put in on in several thin layers rather than one thick one. It'll cure better and may help having the expanding foam pu***he paper out of shape. I actually thought the rockwork was done with the tinfoil plaster mold technique until someone else made the comment about paper. I had never heard of using kraft paper before.

Teffy, no the trip is off for this fall. we're just going to make a border run and will be in Harlingen/McAllen for a couple of days around mid-November. Not going to have time to make it all the way up to Houston. I'm going to have Papa Ben's mail me my order to 'General Delivery - Harlingen' in time for me to pick it up there. There are no hobby shops in the south end of the valley, neither in Harlingen, McAllen nor in Brownsville.

Regarding cutting the hole, I'd keep the shop vac turned on and next to the saw. That ought to pick up a god bit of the saw dust.

Well I've got to run. It's our normal day to go to the supermarket. Catch up with you guys later.

Hasta luego,

Ed

And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

This **** thing we all call WORK has kept me busy for the past week or so and then the family over the past weekend...you all know how that goes... gotta do the family thing since it's the weekend! Anyways, I starving. Let me start w/ a Double Moch Iced Coolatta... oops...wrong coffee shop! Shame on me! How about a 32oz coffee w/ 3 1/2 sugar, 4 1/2 cream, frozen w/ 2 scoops of chocolate ice cream...hold the whipped cream...unless it's cool whip. Oh... and a menu as well please? Thanks

Well now there's a problem Elliot hogs the majority of the good stuff so by this time of day we are normally out! Unless you like decaf. As to the menu well again it wasn't Gooooood Eeeenough for
Elliiiii-ot . So it's out at the printers getting redone. Not to worry the conversation is still good and cheap and if you haven't figured it out it's "National Dump on Elliot Day" and if it is succesful we'll change it to "National Dump on Elliot Week"[:D]

Sorry Elliot I have you in my sights now!!

Not much doing as I'm still working in the garden and putting in a new trellace and staining some old fencing. It's definitely fall here and hopefully I have another few weeks before the cold settles in for good.

Bob: Thanks for the call last night. I will be doing the homework over the next several days as this is shaping up to be a busy week. I have to go into the office on Thursday for a meeting and then on Friday morning I go with Greg and his class to a rehearsel of the Planets being played by the Nova Scotia Symphony. I get home and pack for Cub camp, which will be this weekend.

Ed: I'm way ahead of ya bud! I mentioned the foam, wondering if anyone would comment on the possibility of recreating Mt. St Helene.

Anyway time to get dinner on the go. Tonight it will be Shake-n-bake ala Fergie

Still here at work for another 20 minutes.. then off to home where I will find out what's on my dinner menu. I think tonight will be a chili night... Wife made a big crock of it Sunday in the crockpot , so I have plenty of it. Only problem is that it's not spicy enough for my liking, so I have to add more 'kick' to it. Anyone else up for some?

Elliot, You had me take a second look at the title quick. SO then of course I had to go back to the first couple of pages, and I started realizing that a few of the regulars for the first few weeks aren't here anymore. But then again, we've gained wuite a few new people too.

Ed, you could be right, I do have halfsheimers you know [;)]

Well, not much else new around Wisconsin, just another Rain Gray Fall day. Looking forward to finnishing tomarrow, as I get a four day......that's right, four day......vacation. Some teachers convention for the Public schools, so we here at the private school are taking off as well. I guess I better keep going, as I've got a little homework to do for tomarrow.

Yeah, they exceeded bandwidth usage again. Part of the problems that come with their success. Hopefully they are working on correcting the situation. This has happened several times before, usually around the end of the month.
