Good Evening folks. I've been away, then had some family illness matters, but now it's time for a java.
QUOTE: Yeah, I’m upset. Upset you didn’t post it here first! What are friends for? Geez, we’ve gone way too far P.C. if you can’t even say ‘fart’ anymore.

I haven't entered into any of this conversation, mainly because I don't go out of the shop much anymore. It's too warm and cosy in here[(-D] However, this f*rt thing caught my eye. Down the road a bit from here is a small bakery that was started by a German couple. They papered the washroom with old German newspapers. This is educational. My German is non-existent for practical purposes, but I do understand pictures sometimes[:D] One of the papers showed a picture of a steam loco. (Very similar to that beautiful beast lupo showed us the other day) Anyway, the caption and article had to do (I infered) with a steam train fan outing. Steam in German is (and lupo or others can fine tune this please) "pharten". Case closed, as far as I'm concerned, f*rt has a legitimate place on a model train forum.[^]

As to getting all riled up about spelling, this is a Coffee Shop isn't it? Do people enjoying a cuppa correct each other's spelling or grammar? I keep my Correct Spelling Dictionary handy so as not to embarrass (had to check that one for the second "s") myself too much. And, typos get in all over the place. Let's enjoy ourselves, not worry about Keeping Up Appearances, unless it's to discuss that excellently strange Brit TV humour[;)]

Just before I came up here, the Cards were down 2-4 in the 3rd. Now it's 5-7 bottom of the 5th.
some of the intervening time has been spent on building mountain foundations. CNN is the only source I have for the score[V], and that's the score bar at the bottom of the screen!

Better say goodnight, and God Bless.

Der : the german word for driving is Fahren and a vehicle is called a Fahrzeug but when you look along their Autobahn ( highways ) they have very interesting signs at each exit

Ed: You did not miss out, I am working on a website to host the pictures I took at the Steamfest and other occasions, as soon that is up I will gladly share these pics with you ! [:)]

Fla.Phil that's a cool story, must try that at home some day! [:D][:D][:D]

Hey Tom: Good to see you here this a.m. It's a blustery day in the 100 acre wood today for sure on our shore!
Cards 9 - RS 11 (Good railroading there[:D]) We're rooting for the Cards for Ed's benefit[:-,]

Lupo: Thanks for the autobahn signs.[8D] You are definitely the graphicmeister[^](Thinks...hope that's not rude!)

Good Morning Coffee Clubbers,

Well, no one has said it yet, so…….

How about them Red Sox!!!!!!! [:D] [^] [swg] [tup] [wow]

Wow, not exactly a pitcher’s duel. I’m surprised, but pleased, that they recovered from 4 errors. I was strangely calm throughout the game. I thought it was a portent of disaster, but I was wrong.

Krump – yeah, I thought your comment was strange yesterday, but I let it slide. But Walker is some kind of ball player. Great hitting and excellent fielding, especially in that right hand corner of Fenway Park. That was a catch worthy of the highlights.

FlaPhil – No, Fitchville is way out in the eastern part of the state and we hardly ever got out there. Seems strange today to say “…way out in the eastern part of the state…” as it was all of maybe 65 miles from where I lived. But that was a long way for us to go back in those days.

QUOTE: .. I'm sure you have no trouble pronouncing or spelling Ortiz..

Not any more, after writing it so many times on all those “Ortiz for President” signs……..[:D]

QUOTE: Derwent: CNN is the only source I have for the score , and that's the score bar at the bottom of the screen!

Have you tried CNN on the web, and then going to their Sports section? You can get their sort of live scoring that shows score, people on base, balls/strikes/outs, whose batting, whose pitching. I just ‘refresh’ every few minutes to get updated situation. I had to use that for the NL games as we aren’t getting the FoxSports channel.

Okay, Lupo, waiting for the steam pix. We’ll also want a report on this super show.

Well, sports fans. Sunday morning. Got a good cup of coffee in hand. DW is frying up the bacon and eggs. Sun is shining (a/c is on!). Will try to keep the action alive today and continue spackling my hill test section. Full story at 5.

Hasta luego,

Ed

Good Morning All

Not much going on here except it's definately fall and I'm not impressed. Time to get the Mulluks out and shine them up.

Teffy: I posted the Billboard on the "TO FORUM MODERATOR; How about closing inappropriate topics" thread that is now on page 6 or 7. I wanted a second opinion on it, not that I don't trust yours. I believe the thread is now dead. I hope!

Philnrunt: Good to see you back and nice to see you're being taken care of[swg] We all need a little TLC once in awhile.

Lupo: the sign confuses me as the questions still remains.... To Ausfahrt or Not-Ausfarht that is the question, which direction is more nobler?

East Coast: Go easy bud as we enjoy your company and would hate to see you commit Hairy Carrie (I know, spelling). That last thread was thought provoking and I'd hate to see the thoughtless get provoked!

Paul: If you're painting large areas a Wagner spray gun is cheap but effective. We use them on the ship. Providing you don't let them gum up or get dirty they work wonders. Just watch out for the overspray as the particulate can travel a fair distance and get on cars, etc.

Time to move mountains gents!

Good Morning All:

Yesterday was a great day as I got the pit finished on the TT. Now it's back to the bridge. I don't know where I misplaced the instructions and I don't remember exactly how the arch goes on. Fergie and I saw a TT in Halifax that the pit wall was not all the way around because of the slope of the ground, I wanted to model that but when I moved the position of the TT it wouldn't work out. It sure was a nifty idea though.

For the PC police--fart fart fart.

Ed:
I have the Kodak program that you're talking about but when my computer got hit by lightening and a new hard drive was installed, I haven't re-installed that program yet. I haven't been able to find it - it's probably sitting on the instructions to the TT kit.

Fergie:
I saw someplace that Lisa might let you have a DCC setup. Good luck. Before you buy look hard at that digitrax.

Well I've got to get off to church - talk to ya'll later

Ya'll have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Good Mornin' Everybody,
It's a gray, rainy day in the mountains today. It's been mostly gray and rainy for the past several days, and we're about ready for the sun to come out for a while.

Thank you all for the kind words, thoughts and prayers for Shawna. She started to perk up a little yesterday afternoon and evening, but then had a really bad night last night. There wasn't much sleep for anybody, especially her and Louise. It's a little after 10 in the morning and they're both asleep now, which is good. They can sleep as long as they can. Later today I've got to run down to Gainesville to get her books and some other stuff and bring it back up here. We don't know what's going to happen with college right now. We'll just have to see. Rigth now getting her well is all that matters. Everything else is piddlely stuff.

I agree that we should just keep the coffee shop going. It does pull up just the page to go to, and it takes long to load as the page gets longer. But we are establishing something with both history and tradition here, and why change it for something new.

It seems like there are a lot of highly opinionated, fairly angry people on some of the other forums and threads. I tend not to go to those places, or leave quickly if I do. This is for fun, and getting mad spoils the fun of it.

Fergie, that definitely qualifies as a great day ( Lisa's question about how much is DCC gonna cost). It's definitely worth it. Teffy's comment about the DT400 throttles is right. I still use DT100's and I'm fine with them, but the DT400's are they way to goif you're just starting out. One button for each thing is easier.

Chris, I think the modern day "Q" is a really great idea. But remember, it's YOUR Railroad. You can model whatever you want, in any combination. All it has to be is fun for you. That's the only requirement.

Jim, I think fish and hushpuppies sounds great, and they taste even better. Of course, I've been known to make a meal out of just hushpuppies.

Lupo, I hope you get your snow . That hill needs to be broken in properly. I hope we get some good snows this winter too. It's very beautiful here when it snows.

Phil, welcome back! I'm glad the camping trip was a success. And congrats on the new ladyfriend. That's really good. Louise is 10 years younger than I am. She cuts no slack for that, and that keeps me young.

Fla. Phil, now that's hilarious! It would be even better if the car belonged to someone you knew and didn't particularly like. It's kind of a dirty trick, but it's funny as heck.

Teffy, Be Nice. Not all railroads can be as long as the Santa Fe, but on most of them the track is just as wide. The Santa Fe is a great railroad to model. There is a lot of variety to choose from both in locations and equipment. I'll have to admit the Warbonnet scheme is one of the prettiest ever painted on a diesel. I still prefer Southern green, but that's just me.

I'd better go for now, there are a few things to get done this morning.
Have a great day everybody,
Tom

Well all, I am officially anouncing my submission to "The Great Slogan War of 2004" Now it's not great, but I had to make it myself, so I should get some brownie points for that......(and some regular brownies too.....) So here goes:

When you want rail service that personal and quick,
Ship Wisconsin and Southern, we'll do the trick!

Not much else around here today, just sitting around waiting for the train to come in a few hours. Packer games on too, so my Dad's totally absorbed. This means not much to do. Oh well, guess I'll keep on moving.....

Yes Noah, but try painting that slogan on a box car. I hope your railroad has a lot of 86 footers.[swg]

I'm not sure about the GP38-2, as I don't have one of those, but on my PK2 E8, I simply just have to pry the bottom center of the shell slight apart and it slips over some pins and off. Now maybe somebody who has the GP38-2 can tell you better though.

But anyway, [#welcome] to the coffee shop, feel free to come in any time, were open 24/7.

Elliot, You're right, that is better! And also, I been thinking, and I got one for the ARK,

Good evening sports fans,

Quiet day here at the coffee shop. Guess most of you were off doing stuff or watching football.

Tom, continued best wishes for Shawna. Hope your trip down to the college went without a hitch.

Congrats to Noah on the win by the Packers today. Unfortunately my Giants took one on the chin. Oh well, 4-2 is still better than last year.

Piemandan – Welcome to the forum. Glad to have to drop in and post. But I’ve got to say that you’ll have better luck posting that specific question out on the main forum. We only have a relatively smal group of regulars who frequent here, so the odds that one of them has experience with that particular engine are pretty small. Post it in a separate thread, and it’s best to be specific in the title, then come back here for general chat and good coffee!

Edit: Whoops, now I see that you've already done that. Hope you get a useful answer.

Oooh, slogan war? How about "F.C.V.N. - Ruta de los Alacranes"?

Noah, how about “The ARK – Cheaper by Cubic Cubit”

Well it’s almost game time. Got to go pop the popcorn and get out a cool one. See you guys later.

Hey pieman[#welcome] It's been some time since I've dealt with Proto 2000. That's in Horibly Oversized, and now I'm Normal. However, if memory serves, Noah is right, I think, about the tabs. You've taken out all the screws that I think should come out. The shell is now held by small tabs that have clicked into slots on the frame. You have to unclick them. A screwdriver is often handy for this. You pu***he sloping face of the tab until the tab disengages (unclicks) from the frame, and push it slightly down. This is to try to stop it re-clicking. do the same with all the other tabs, and pull the shell off. That's what Noah is doing when he pries the E8 shell slightly apart. He's luckier than I've been at this. I find I have to do the screwdriver thing.
BTW, no offence, but so many of those big letters give us a headache in here. It's probably the coffee, but maybe the lighting.
Now, if you are bringing pie, do you have any sugar free? There's several in here who appreciate those. [C=:-)][dinner]

Big_Girl We tried our best with the GBPs but gave up watching in the 3rd quarter when it was 6-27.[banghead] On the bright side, if they play like that on the 1st. it could be an interesting election for you guys!

Good Evening All:

I spent three hours at the TT today and the bridge is almost done. I got the bridge wheels on and the pick-up wires soldered on to the axles. I laid the rail in the pit just to see if the bridge would rotate IT DID. Mrs. "T was patranizing (SP) and said "looks nice". At least it wasn't "cute". So far I'm so impressed with this kit that I may replace my Walthers 90' with a CMR.

A war between Fergie and Elliot ought to enjoyable and funny to read since both have a good sense of wit and humor.

Fergie:
I just got through watching about the finding of the HMS. Hood. I had no idea that it had been found. Three servivors (SP) (boy, that will give the spelling police something to do) and 1415 perished.

Tom:
I bear no one any ill will but I do like to pick once in a while.

Noah:
Slogans are nice but as Elliot says they need to be short and sweet, mine is "The Best is Yet to Come".

They are doing the Atlantic War on the History channel so I'm out of here.

YEA!!!! Someone won a game today.

Ya'll have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

I like your name, what kind of pie do you like? I'm diabetic, so pie is off limits but every once in a while I sneak a fork full of Cocanut (SP), about once a month.

[#welcome]So glad that you dropped in, we have a good time in here and every once in a while we even talk about trains. I own a Proto GP 30 that I had to buy because it was so pretty. Most of my stuff is steam. We'd like to hear more from you. What guage, how big, how old. In age we go from Dougle (I think) to Fla/Phil, (he's an old FART).

Fla/Phil:
You've got three years and a couple of months on me

Phil:
My halfhimmers has kicked in and I don't remember who said it, but you'd better find out what this nice lady thinks of model trains. Take her to a show and watch her. When you go camping how do you do it. We used to go canoe camping with our sleeping bags just out on the ground, but this old body can't do that anymore.

Well now the slogan war is going fairly nice. No shots fired as yet, or none I have heard anyway.

I am getting a good laugh out of some of them and the slogan thread is kind of funny too. I like the one about the scalded chicken. [:)]

Today was one of them good/not so good days. I guess it is Fergie's turn to laugh at Jim. We are not talking about soldering irons but another electric device--hair clippers. I had a slight war with a pair today. I decided to give myself a trim since I didn't make it to the barber shop Saturday and I have to work in the wire shop (on days) starting tomorrow. (The wire shop has a bunch of women in it, so I needed a haircut.) Well to make a long story short I got mixed up on the attachments and put on the wrong one. I won the war but it got in a few good licks first. [;)] In honor of the occasion I have decided to declair this coming week . . . HAT WEEK. [:)] [;)] [:D]

OK, Fergie, up off the floor (that is unless you are soldering under the table again) AND you can stop laughing now. [;)] [:)]

I went railfanning today and saw a few trains. I also saw the railroad bridge going up and had to go by there for a few pics. That was the good part of the day, that and eating good fried fish. (I had fried fish on Saturday once, and twice today, so I am officially fished out for about a week. [:0] ) While down at the river taking pics I got off the "beaten path" and walked around trying to get a better angle. After I was there a while I started itching. I didn't think I had gotten into poison ivy but I went looking to see if any was around and sure enough as my luck would have it, I found it. [:(!] [V] [:(!] So I cut short my photo op and head home to shower. On the way home I could have caught another train but showering was more on my mind at the moment. Tomorrow will really tell if my shower achieved its goal, I certainly hope so.

Now back to the lift section of the bridge. I took some pics of the lift section in the up position. I also noticed that where the bridge had raised there were now two "doors" where the rails ended. I guess these prevent the train from falling into the water. I also wager that these serve as weights, as the bridge goes up these must come down. I am sure some of us here are old enough to remember the old window weights. [;)] [}:)] [;)] Sorry if that jogs your memory, some of us probally don't want to remember that. [B)] I could not tell if the "doors" were concrete or steel. (That might be a good question for the stupid question thread.)

Well if things don't change, I am on loan to the wire shop till the first of the year. So now I have to think about going to bed much earlier than usual. Tomorrow will probally be a long day for me as I am not use to getting up at 5 am to be at work at 7. I use to love getting up early, but now since I work nights have become an owl. Wish me luck, hooo hooo. [;)]

Hey Noah

Here is a suggestion for your W & S logo and slogan. Lupo or someone else who is good doing these things can help you with it but here is the general idea.

SERVICE . . . Personal and Quick

WISCONSIN SOUTHERN

We'll Do the Trick

That could be center and would make a nice looking logo/slogan. [:)]

AND how about . . .

The ARK

The RAINBOW Without the Rain [:D]

If I knew how to color each letter in "ainbow" differently I would, but that is something to work on. I really don't know if it is possible here but worth a try if you have time.

Or how about "The ARK . . . Safe SHIPping."

Or

Your in GOD's Hands on the ARK. ( A play on Allstate Insurance, The Good Hand people) Or "Your In Good Hands On The ARK"

Just a few ideas to think about. [:p]

Good Morning Everyone

Jim: Nice thing about a hair cut is that the the difference between a good one and a bad one is about two weeks. Personally I get mine done just before going back to sea. I normally ask for a #3 guard on the clippers.

Yesterday was for the most part a good one. I'm trying a new technique for making rock faces so I'll let you guys be the judge. Remember this still needs paint and vegitatation so don't be too critical. I'll be adding shellac to it later today.

Der John: Does this look like any of the rock cuts in the area?

And Noah: There's only one M.E.S.S an it's mine

Teffy: please don't forget the links and remember

Almost Nothing Can't Compare with the M.E.S.S.

John:

For Economy ride the M.E.S.S.
we can run on MT.

Later

Good Morning All:

It's a nice day and I'm in a good mood. My TT is looking good and just about ready for paint. I haven't gotten anymore track laid as the mess is to big to move to lay track. Mrs. "T" came upstairs yesterday and said "my goodness, how are you going to run trains, it's a mess?" I explaned to her that I had a work space cleaned off so I could work on the TT and right now that was all that I needed. I'm also laying out the roundhouse area and got the floor glued together and now it's time to "mortor" the walls. I found that grimmy black works wonders and when I rub the wet paint with a piece of toilet paper it leaves the bricks and the mortor a nice shade of black.

Tom:
How is Shawna doing? This is a terriable (SP) way to enjoy the referbing of her room.

Well I'm ready to fire up the "paint booth". Mine is the same as yours - a cardboard box sitting outside the garage, with the wind blowing away from the house. Fergie, John, and Dickiee can just wait for an oppertunity like this in the fall, winter, and spring. I can paint three and one half seasons a year.

Ed:
I know - you can paint four seasons a year, but then do you have four seasons a year. Except for Christmas do you have a winter?

Fergie:
I went on eBay after our phone conversation and their were no Chief's listed. It may be a week or two so get Lisa primed. I think I'll e-mail Gadget Tom and see what he'll do. I bough one of my Chiefs from him. The advantage of the Chief over the Empire Builder is the Chief has it's own programing connection that can be hooked up all of the time. It will handle 120 locos as compared to 22 for the EB. It will also give you feedback to the throttle if the throttle will do it.

The quanity of locomotive handling is moot, even for club layouts, but the other two options are worth the extra price. Just take my word, now feedback doesn't mean anything but it will later on.

Is your rock suface thick brown craft paper? If so, are you just going to spray or paint it over with a solution of glue and water for a foundation base?

Jim:
It'll take you a couple of days to get used to day work and it'll feel strange getting home in the daylight, but it'll be nice. At least you know that you've got days until the end of the year.

I like some of the slogans that you have posted, they're good.

Paul:
For some reason I thought you were retired, now I read a thread about you going to work - what do you do? And where? Do you drive into cow town? (For the non-Texans that's Ft. Worth.) The stock yards used to be humongous and Swift and Armour had their largest slaugher houses in FW. Of course their were a lot of smaller slaughter houses also.

I'm at work so let me get to work.

Ya'll have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Jim Hope the poison ivy has worn off.
QUOTE: If I knew how to color each letter in "ainbow" differently I would, but that is something to work on. I really don't know if it is possible here but worth a try if you have time.

Let's see. Rainbow
The only colour that the code doesn't recognize in the rainbow list is indigo, so substitute violet for indigo, and purple for violet, and there you are.

Big_Girl: Yes, I'm sorry about the win last night,as it kinda screws up the one game only thing, as you say. But, now I'm in a bind because the challenger's win would be bad news trade-wise for Canada. He's a protectionist, we hear, and not interested in NAFTA in it's present form. Don't get us started on that, however.... let's stick to RRs and Food[dinner] [C=:-)] [swg]

Jim: Sorry, but had to laugh! I thought that hair clippers were permitted to model railroaders only for the oil[(-D]
So, to paraphrase Ed, it's Hatsa Mañana[(-D] [:P]

Fergie: That Krafty rock face looks great, and is going to look fantastic by the time you're through. It looks a bit like the Musquodoboit river from the highway 7 bridge at Musquodoboit Harbour. (A place that would be visually improved by a well placed rail bridge[^]) I have a question. If you plant trees, what support can you give them beneath the paper? (I had a related planting problem on my Campbell River layout. I used sheets of newsprint pulp from the local mill to cover my scenery framework. Try drilling holes in that stuff when it's dried. You get pulp fuzz wrapped around the drill bit instantly! Try punching holes with a sharp pointy thing, and the tough pulp sheet gives way before a hole is made [banghead])
Strikes me you are going to have to glue the trees directly to the rock and support each one until it's dried.
I guess you asked for it..

NO M.E.S.S. WHEN YOU SHIP MT![(-D] [(-D]

Mounds of blue foam now adorn the east end of the upper tunnel, and even down to the west mouth of the lower tunnel. I'll get tidied up and take a shot or two.

Bob:
QUOTE: I own a Proto GP 30 that I had to buy because it was so pretty.
Can you look underneath that GP30 and see if it has the plastic tabs holding the shell to the frame? Pieman might like to know, as I suspect that the same manufacturing techniques were used for both locos.

Afternoon everyone. I'm having a super day, aside from some train problems. I love my new Genesis SD70M, but i can't get any of the detail parts on. They won't stay! Glue perhaps?
Also, the trucks seem very loose because when the loco goes into a curve the front truck seems to lift off the track. I'd like to figure out how to tighten them, but there appears to be no easy way to get the bottom of the trucks off to get to the screw. Any suggestions[?]

Well, Ed hasn't been here yet, so I'll say it,

"How about them Red Soxs!!"

Teffy:
QUOTE: In age we go from Dougle (I think) to Fla/Phil, (he's an old FART).

Actually Bobolonian, who was here for a while I think before you came, is the youngest that I know of, 10, but Dougal is the Youngest consistent poster.

Jim: You mean like this:

The ARK:
The RAINBOW without the RAIN

I will have to mark down all these idea's someplace for the ARK boxcars I'm going to do sometime. They'd all work good. I appreciate all the ideas.

Well, not much else here, and got to finnish a science project, so I'm going to move on. See you tomarrow.

Hi All, this is the first time I have read this thread, I like it.
So, I am having a great day. School went well. Practice was good, we are currently getting ready for the Western Maine Girls Soccer Semifinals on wednesday. The girls are ready which is good as at some point it is out of the coaches hands and in to theirs.
As for railroading I bought a new Athearn Ready to Roll boxcar a Montreal Maine and Alantic with the red, white and blue stripes it looks great and has very nice detail. My wife even liked it.
And as a long time member of the Red Sox's Nation [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D]
