Good evening clubbers just got in from work cause the snow fairy decided we needed more only two inches but it was enough to foul up the highway, saw an Lincoln navigator to the ol flip so I stopped and called the OPP the Lady wasn't hurt just really scared. 4x4's will be the death of us all I drive a crappy lil neon and knock on wood haven't had any problems. Flip sorry to hear about Deb we'll add her to the church prayer chain hopfully these will be the last surgeries she needs. *** for what its worth I use code 83 all atlas switches and track I find the price difference isn't all that much more anymore. It wouldn't suprise me if they eventually discontinue the code 100 as all the LHS's around here basically just stock code 83 anymore it's out selling the code 100 here by about 3 to 1. well Zoe I'll have a tea for my nerves. Talk to you all later Rob

Hey all- More snow here today, but not as much, only about 1 1/2 ". It was a slippery ride on the way home though.
Ed- We're heading south on the 18th, coming back the 25th, which means I'll be able to go to
the local train show on the 26th! I'll have to limit my spending at Bull St Station so I can get some bargains
at the show. And with my iron will and total emotional control, that should be E-Z! Or not.
Tom- Are there any RR sites in Ga that you would recommend to see? Any hot spots I should keep an eye out for?
I've been to the RR Shops in Savannah, they were pretty nice. On the last visit, I spent about an hour watching
the container ships loading and unloading, MEG-(My Ex Gee-ler friend) even enjoyed it.
Sure do wi***he River St Rambler was still active!
Y'all take care now, ya hear? (practising my Georgia drawl)

Morning all

Just popping in to say hi, not a lot happening here. Cold and grey with occasional rain outside. In a bit of a dead zone with the MRR at the moment - waiting for parcels to find their way through our increasingly eccentric postal system. I have a couple of decoders on order from one supplier and a Fleischmann diesel on the way from an eBay auction, will post some pics of it alongside the "Silberlinge" cab car I'm planning to run it with when it arrives.

Rob, Interested to hear that you see a lot of roll-over accidents? I'm of the firm opinion that the problem is poor driving skills/experience rather than the vehicle with many of these - they just don't know how to handle something a little more challenging than whatever they passed their test in. I've only seen one flipped Land Rover (out of however many hundred we have in this area - all the farmers drive them along with forest workers, electricity board, etc), these are usually driven by "serious" people who're using it as a tool and know what they're doing rather than people who've bought it as a fashion item (who usually haven't driven anything larger than a BMW 3-series previously and have very little experience of heavy vehicles).

Also interested to hear about the FP9. If they plan this carefully it could enable them to turn out a batch of the FL9 - the 5 axle variant of which 50 were built for the New Haven RR, these could run from either onboard diesel power or pick up from a third rail in New York city. Athearn would need to do some careful design work on the shell to allow the alternate components, and also design the frame to allow the 3-axle rear truck and different fuel tank to be fitted. I think it'd be worth it though - Bachmann spent a fortune tooling up their E33 (of which only around 12 were built?), so limited numbers of the prototype isn't necessarily going to result in poor sales. I have a couple of the old E R Models FP7s which are great locos, though the detailing's not up to the very latest standards - it's close to early Proto 1k with moulded handrails, etc. The chassis are excellent though, built by Roco so diecast frame, hefty motor, flywheel, drive on both trucks, and DCC-ready (socket fitted).

Well, that's all for now, hoping my packages will turn up soon!

Good Morning All:

Flip:
My prayers are with you and Deb. I sure hope everything goes well under the knife.

***:
I like to hear about the players being interested on the community as a lot of them aren't. Troy Akiman and Emmit Smith are two of the Dallas Cowboys that come to mind as giving back to the community. Warren Moon has the Warren Moon Foundation in Houston that helps underpriviladge kids get money to go to college. No one knows how maney kids he has supported in this way. It's not something that he brags about, he just does it (good old Niki statement).

Rob:
I'm not a DCC guru but did you catch my answer to your question about overhead wires?

Phil:
I assume, since you have been to Savannah before that you've been to the old C of G roundhouse and museum. It was enjoyable - took me 6 to 7 hours to look at everything. That was a major loco building and re-building facility. Can you imagine how much soot and grime was all over the "gloryious" town when that shop was in operation? The river street rambler was one of the things I wanted to see but I was about 4 months late.

Tim:
Remember what Dave said about going to the casino in Biloxi - He didn't lose any money, he knew where it was, they just wouldn't give it back.

Tom:
I've been very sucessful at using the Atlas track and the Walthers switches and not having to use the shims. There is a very slight difference in the track but so far NO derailments and I'm the only one that sees the cars move. I've also been sucessful at going from code 100 to 83 and from code 83 to 70 using only the rail jointer and solder. I thought I was the only one doing this until I read this months editorial in MR and Terry Thompson (the editor) did it too.

In you bathroom project I hope you are using a one piece linoleum for the floor as the 12" squares will let water (when the toilet overflows) down into the plywood floor and eventually mess (no pun intended) up the plywood. When we were doing our bathrooms in this house that's what the plumbing dept head told us to use. I was very glad that it was a small room as Stephanie's taste was very expensive. She wanted, and got, linoleum that was the best grade for high traffic areas as that was the only pattern that she liked. Who cares, I'm not in there that long, but she has several mags and a couple of books in the drawer. I kidded her about putting in a padded toilet seat for her.
QUOTE:
Your making excellent progress on your home project Tom, I have de-installed and re-installed about 5 toilet over my home owner lifespan.....crappy job

Ya'll have a blessed day and remember SANTA FE ALL THE WAY

Morning/afternoon all.

Tim -
when you pass by the 10 freeway wave to the east.... I live about 6 miles east of the 15.

Zoe - could you have the cook whip up a tall stack with some bacon Please.... and I'll take a Dr. Pepper and some of Ed's OJ with that Please.

Cali weather update : here in Fontana it's supposed to be 72 today with a chance of showers late this evening through saturday.... Flash flood warnings are in place already.... Just like they always are when it rains out here because of the close proxcimity to the mountains.

I just hope that we don't have anymore mudslides anywhere out here.

well I'm off for now.

Good afternoon everybody, been in the train room all morning installing suspended ceiling grid, almost done, then another trip to HD for drop-in light fixtures, & ceiling tiles.

Der John, Luc....we dodged a bullet here in southern New England today, the storm passed a little further north than predicted, so all we received was 0.41 inches of rain, as the temp stayed around 38F. Northern New England is getting "pounded" with heavy wet snow, over 30 inches in some places of New Hampshire and Northern Maine. We are going to get about 3 inches later today as part of the backlash effect as cold air sweeps in behind the upper level Low.

Bob: yes it is good to see these players giving back to the community.

Rob: you guys have me convinced on Code 83, I have to make a 1st run list now of what I need to get started. The LHS that I visit up in NH when on vacation has a very good selection.

Flip: we prayed for Deb yesterday at Ash Wednesday services, and will keep her in our prayers until she is feeling in top shape once more.

Mitchell!!!: how have you been lad? Haven't seen you in the coffee shop in a while, what have you been working on?

Der John: the mountains are taking shape nicely, great job.

Matt: We heard the big news about Bonnie Prince Charles, hes getting married!!! Low key wedding we hear.

Tim: What are you going to be doing when the ladies are in Vegas? Are you going also to hit the big one so that you can build a MRR empire? Just think of it, your picture on MRR magazine, and a huge layout in your new palace after you hit the big one in Vegas!!!!

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Good afternoon folks: Sorry my entrance and exit were somewhat curt this morning, forgot my manners[:I] I was trying to take photos and get them on railimages, while Kris was having difficulties getting Word to do what she wanted it to do (in fairness, what she wants is better done in Publisher). Anyway, that's all done now and here we are again. A Tetleys please Zoe, hold the milk.

I tried to get another shot of them up here, but the image won't come in from railimages. The properties of the image have /aeo.sized.jpg I've tried that and the sttraight /aeo.jpg but niether work. [V] I'll try again later perhaps, it's a neat pic of a herd, that they call a flock[%-)] It's a pic I found when I went back through "History" to the site where I got the one I posted. It wasn't there anymore, [:O] so I found another.

It's not exactly cold out today, just raw, with an east wind. We are waiting for it to start snowing or raining, or whatever ti's going todo. I think I'll put the woodstove on again to take the chill off, and save some oil.
I'll post this, and close out the computer, come back on and see if railimages will talk to me.

my way to the LHS to pick up my P2K E6A/B with QSI sound. I have been waiting, patiently I might
add, for two weeks for it to come in. IT"S HERE! I'll post some pictures when I get back. I'm so

Good afternoon all!

I need a tall glass of OJ big time! I am getting a slight sore throat and feeling like a sinus infection coming! Vitamin C for me please! This up and down weather is not helping any, it was 76 F yesterday and rained in the afternoon, even ran the AC for about 45 minutes at one point. And today the high is like 50 F.

I laid down two more rows of ceramic tile in the train room yesterday; almost half is done with that now. Taking a break and back to work today! Turbo Tax is now calling me to file ASAP, hoping for another refund. I’ll be working on that tonight, head ache approaching…..

John,
Yes, it is getting back to normal here, but still lots of trash in the streets downtown. Seems to take them a week to get it all cleaned up.
Since Mardi Gras is over now, whew, the King Cakes are gone too! They only make them for about four to five weeks leading up to the festivities. Then, just like that you don’t seen them for another year. Remind me again around Feb 2006!

BTW, great images of your foam landscaping project. I especially like the last one, thanks for sharing!

Evening all

Is about 10 past 9 here, watching the Brit Awards (music awards show, was last night but shown on TV tonight for some reason). Depressing how commercial the music is now, there's not many left who got to the top on pure talent.

John, I recognise those - they're Highland Cattle, Mum and Dad have a few photos of them taken on a trip to Scotland before I was born, what's always puzzled me is how they see out from under that fringe!

***, Looks like we're going to get nothing but the "Royal Wedding" for the next few months on TV, radio, newspapers, etc. A lot of people are against it after the whole Diana business (supposedly Charles was "playing away" right through their marriage), why he didn't just marry Camilla to begin with is beyond me! Can't really say it bothers me either way to be honest though.

Well, just recieved word that my decoders are on the way - an email to say they'd been picked and dispatched (the email said they'd been packed at 3am, so they must be running 24hrs in the mail order department these days!). Should turn up at the same time as the loco that one of them's intended for.

Bye for now

Hi to all--Zoe how about some of that rootbeer float that Jim had, sure does sound good.

John- I did try to grind the flanges down on one of the locos at one time,it didn't work real well,so I think I will pass on the sandpaper.[:D] I will try NWSL and see if they have any or maybe they can point me where I should go. Also I think you and *** might have talked me into Code 83 as well, and I can work my 100 into it.

Matt-The problem with the 4x4 in most cases here in the states is the driver, and thier thinking they can do anything with them until they have a problem like Rob said.

John-That is about what I remember of the cattle.Things look a little different now then they did when I was about 10.I like the foam mountain, that is something I will have to learn when I get there.

Tom-Use the extra pair of hands for the toilet,I replaced mine when we redid the floor and I had my longest son-in-law help me.I'm glad I did because it saved me from having to replace a new wax seal with another one.

Flip-My thoughts and Best Wishes for your wife.

Take care and Talk to you later

Well, I’m starting to get a little frustrated. I come to this forum to enjoy the hobby of model railroading, but any more it’s gotten to the point where 45% of the topics are someone flaming someone else. I’m really starting to get sick of it. Why can’t people get along at least here, even if they can’t do it in the outside world? Why can’t they learn to ignore these comments? If everyone responded meanly to every bad comment person to person, everyone in the world would walk around with black eyes. I dunno, I’m starting to get worried..... But, please no one respond to this, I just needed a place to vent without getting stuck in the middle of things, and thanks for the spot. On to more civil stuff.....

I really haven’t gotten much modeling done at all lately, I’ve been shifting my furniture around in my room in the advent that I’ll be getting a new, bigger bed soon. But, I do hope to get some modeling done tonight and this weekend. Tomorrow, I’m going to be helping out with a Valentines Day dance at my local Nursing home. Just trying to do my part.....

Ed, I belive the cut off date should be very, very soon. With the way we're going, It should be within the next few days.

I guess I better be moving, I do have a little homework tonight.

Duke, I agree totally. This is one of my pet nuisances/dislikes really, people who buy a vehicle and don't know how to use it properly - don't want to start the topic off again as it came up a few days/weeks ago, so I'd just be repeating myself - me repeating myself is probably not interesting reading[:)]!

Noah, I agree. There seem to be a few flame war-type posts out there, seems to be an annual event as I remember similar stuff (same topic pretty much) coming up last year. Made the mistake of getting involved then, won't be doing so again though - not worth the hassle. Think the problems are with the nature of the web - there's no way to gauge emotion and it's pretty much anonymous, so people either cause offence unintentionally (not so bad, there's no malice or offence intended there and it's an easy mistake to make) or hide behind a username and flame (which doesn't help to my mind). Just my thoughts!

Good evening gents....had a real productive day in the train room, all the gridwork is installed in the ceiling, Armstrong makes a real nice product, went together really easy. I actually had time to go to HD and pick up the 2x2 tiles for the ceiling, and 6 drop-in 2x2 ceiling light assemblies for suspended ceilings.

I just received the photos back in the mail from the pics I took of the train room and big snow storm, and the train show in Springfield two weeks ago. I also have the pics on CD, so after I load them onto the PC, I need to see how to get them to the coffee shop. I know a couple of you guys Ed & Der John, gave me info on how to do that, so we will give it a whack soon.

Noah: that is what is so nice about the coffee shop, it is almost like our own discussion forum. Don't get descouraged by one or two immature individuals, it is readily apparent to me that several people like to "lob a few grenades" into a questionable subject forum subject thread, and beat a hasty retreat. Take it for what it's worth....."0". How is school coming this semester? What are majoring in?

Fergie News: I heard from Fergie today, is doing Ok, has not set the ship on fire with soldering iron, he is very concerned however about Lupo's HAT, wanted to know where it was and if customs had seized it yet. I informed him the Ed is on a working vacation in Mexico searching for the infamous hat.

Matt, I can only hypothesize why Prince Charlie never married Carmella way back before Dianna, she is Roman Catholic. The queen mom probably would have had a fit. Nowadays, no one seems to care anymore. The Prince is happy, Carmella is happy, the two sons are happy for dad, the queen is quiet, so I guess all is well in England.

Time to do some RR reading, have a good evening guys, Luc and Der, get ready, the storm is bearing down on NB and NS.

John: Remember I was talking about the ears on the cattle? Here's a pic. If you can't tell by the little picture, they are about the size of my hand (about 6.5 inches) long!!! The hair on those Scottish ones looks strange, nice picture of them though, that might make a conversation piece around here.

Noah: Couldn't agree more, I usually try to avoid the general discussion any more.

Hopefully see y'all alter this evening,

Good evenong all.

It is raining and I hope it will rain long enough to wash away all the s***.

Gloria had a DR appointment today, that went relatively well.
Her tests all came back normal which is good news but puts everything back to square one to try to identify the root cause of her problems.

I have not done a whole lot of train stuff lately, I have a hunch that something major will happen soon and some progress will be made.

This is taking me a while longer to type tonigh, I have one finger typing and the other in the stawberry bowl.. yummy [8D][:D][8D][:D][:D]

Allright, Zoe could place these berries some place where everyone can get some? Thanks luv...

Flip - Thank you for your reply. You and Deb are in our prayers and we hope that all will be well . Watch your e-mail for a funny or two[;)]

Grayfox, you're right. Some people just don't ever learn. Life's a lot more fun once you learn what's worth getting excited about and what isn't, though.

Tom and *** - I could not agree more. This hobby is supposed to be fun, so why do people insist on being like that? I don't know, so let's have fun in spite of them.

Rob - Glad you're OK after that experience on the highway. Some people think they are invinceable in those 4X4.

Well must go for now

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

How does that phrase go?? “I’m baaaaaack!” [:0]

Trip went fine, no problems, nothing unexpected. Did some minor shopping for stuff not available here in Tuxpan, nothing train oriented however. Glad to see I’m only about 3 pages back. You guys must have gone through a dry period while I was gone.

QUOTE: (CG)Jim: My bad. I've been used to email lists where the server forces line breaks. In the future, all of my link referrals will go via email. Sorry 'bout that, folks!
Try this link, which is a place called tinyurl.com. It takes long links like that and condenses them into a short form that you can post without problems.:

QUOTE: Ryan: The Forum Police are back, so be careful with off topic posts in the “General Discussion” zone. They have been slamming my “Favorite Food Poll.” So I am going to try to be a good boy from now on.
There are always some who want to make the forum 100% model railroad oriented. Bergie has said several times that he doesn’t mind the occasional off-topic post. To me, if a post is clearly labeled as a poll (which some others don’t like) or a non-railroad topic, it would be just as easy for those people to avoid clicking on it. Just like I do with DCC posts. I suppose they have their right to complain too, it just seems strange to me.

QUOTE: Luc: I've downloaded the Firefox browzer, it seems to be working well and a bit faster. I'm using it as a secondary system, at least until I'm totally satisfied with it.
Luc, how difficult was it to download and install? Are you more than average computer literate? I’m trying to decide if it’s something I want to try to do myself (normally I don’t try loading programs).

QUOTE: Flip: Did the picture of the club mascot go through?

The trip to the liver dr.is off. Instead, this coming tuesday, the neurosurgeon that did Debs back is doing the first of two neck cuttings. First through the front of the throat and in 3 to 4 weeks thru the back of the neck

The “before my first coffee" guy? Yeah, cute. [^] Too bad we can't get a smilie made of him.

Double ouch. [:(] All the best with that one, hope it is less uncomfortable than it sounds.

QUOTE: Matt: I'm of the firm opinion that the problem is poor driving skills/experience rather than the vehicle with many of these - they just don't know how to handle something a little more challenging than whatever they passed their test in.
I suspect many of them don’t even realize there’s a difference in handling.

QUOTE: LilRob: I'll take April 7…
Got it. Wise choice, grasshopper.

QUOTE: Noah: Ed, I belive the cut off date should be very, very soon.
Actually, iirc, today is the cut-off that I announced last week (10 Feb). I’ll give those few who haven’t already guessed until 06:00 tomorrow morning (central time). As of right now, here’s how the selections stand:

LilRob 7-Apr
Dave9999 29-Apr
Noah 1-May
Tom W 3-May
Elliot 18-May
TurboTim 20-May
Ed 21-May
Paul B 24-May
(CG)Jim 30-May
trainwreck 5-Jun
grayfox 9-Jun
jdolan 13-Jun
Luc 14-Jun
Teffy 20-Jun
Flip 27-Jun
trolleyboy 1-Jul
JP 11-Jul
brclem 17-Jul
SilverSpike 2-Aug
der5997 15-Aug

Teffy, haven’t seen any response from you from my email so I suppose you never received it? I’ll try resending, this time through the forum.

That should get me close to caught up. I didn’t comment on everything just to keep things within manageable length, so if I missed something you said my way, sorry.

Hasta luego,

Ed

Ed I just went to the websit (link below) and clicked on the download link and just follow the simple instructions. I have to say it looks like it is faster than the Internet Explorer.
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

I don't think that you or anyone else would have difficulties with this.

Big_Boy1213 - Hi there, I had not seen you come in. The names and dates are our best guesses as to when post number 10000 will show up. Just let Ed know your date choice. This a fun event.

Big_boy1213, Those names and dates are when we think the 10,000th reply to the coffee shop will be. The date is that persons guess as to when it will be. If you want to join in, you'd better hurry. The deadline is approaching, though I don't know the exact date that will be.

Luct, looks like you beat me, rats.
