Jim, was this about your last post, or all of your Coffee Shop pages? Your last post came in here as one continuous quote. That's probably because you missed a [ /quote] somewhere earlier in the message. That's what I find has happened from time to time, when I check in Preview before posting.

John, I was asking about most all of my CS pages. The glitch on my last post (I think) was from clicking on "Quote" instead of "Edit" (what I had thought I was clicking on).

But my question was about what determines page 1 vs. page 2 that I read people talking about. I only get one (continuous) page when i read the posts. Or do others use your PageDown keys, or are they talking about something I'm not seeing here? Puzzling...[%-)]

Morning to all

Well it is cool here this morning, but we are suppose to have a heatwave through the weekend,40-45F with a little rain. Come on SPRING and SUMMER!!!

Dave-Come on in and sit awhile, this is a GREAT PLACE!

Bill-Good to hear that everything is well, now all we need is to get everyone else on the mend. Also,I like the thoughts about the rail,I heard a little about it before but you put it in good perspective.I did manage to find some 1x3 at HD that looked pretty good.I won't tell you how long I looked, and I found a bundle that was loose and looked like it had been there long enough to take care of the warping problem(I hope).

Tom-Good to hear[:-^] that the toilet flushes, and that you must have only used one wax seal.

Noah & Mitchell-The TWO of YOU are MEN AMONG BOYS,keep up the good work.

Ryan-I don't know if you have a resturant called Red Robin, but it is a place that serves different styles of burgers, and I had the Royal Red Robin. It has everything including an egg on it but no onion.[:D][dinner]

Mind if I put my[2c] in??
I sat in the background for a little while and watched and listened to what was going on in here before I decided to make myself known. What I saw was some special PEOPLE that not only talked trains but had other things of intrest to talk about as well. That is what sets the COFFEE SHOP apart from the rest of the forum and I for one would hope that it doesn't change, because it would really be a shame. That's all,for what it is worth. Thanks for being what you people are.

Time to go. We are having a one year birthday party for the youngest granddaughter and it is going to be a house full.

Talk to you later

Okay, one more question - I'd like to (at some point) get a GP9 low-nose for my (freelanced) road. Best route? Were most of the GP9M's a particular phase (since I'm aware of their being 3 phases)? Did they usually have dynamic brakes?

What's a good starter GP to work from, if I need to modify/kitba***o get what I want?

The Walthers Trainline GP9M is probably the best base out there - I've seen these in action and they seem solid, reliable locos which run well and have a decent (if a little basic) bodyshell, perfect for superdetailing! I think it has dynamic brakes as standard, though I've no idea what Phase it is. Hope this is of help!

Thanks to all those who advised about the Doodlebug trailer - The decoder for this railcar arrived in the post this morning, and was fitted within 5 minutes. I've since had to put a couple of 220 Ohm resistors in, one for the headlight and one for the interior lighting, as they were getting a bit too hot for my liking! It now runs smoothly and looks good.

I have decided that I'll only be buying BEMF decoders in future - have fitted a Lenz 1014 to the doodlebug (which doesn't have BEMF) and while it's a vast improvement over the Bachmann decoders I've tried, it's not quite as good for slow work as the 1024 I fitted into one of my FP7s today - that thing is great, need to get another 1024 to fit the other matching FP7 with.

I'll be trying the Bachmann decoders I have on Athearn BB locos as their tendency to "take off" might be counter-acted by the Athearn loco's higher starting voltage, worth a try anyway! They'll probably be replaced with Lenz decoders in the locos they're currently fitted to.

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Good morning/afternoon/evening to everyone. Zoe, I'll have the Mitch deep-fried special, with a Dr. Pepper, please.

Teffy, when Ed comes down, let me know. I may come down and meet both of you. That is, if I'm not busy on that day. [:)]

Ed, my guess might be a little short, but we'll just have to wait and see.[:D]

I want to say [#welcome], to all the new guy's in here. As well as to those who have returned.

JimRCGMO, are you talking about when someone says "We were on page two, so I replied to put us back on page one." If so, it refers to the fact that the coffee shop was on the second page of topics instead of the first (the 1st page you see when you enter the general discussions forum). I hope this answers your question. If not, maybe you can explain better what you're talking about.

until next time,

Robert

Robert, I mean when I come into the Shop. 'Cause I just bookmark the last page I read and come directly to that page. I gather that maybe most of the rest of us don't do it that way?[:0] Guess I'll go try that and see what I find there.

Well, Zoe, looks like I turned over the page, so the next round of drinks is on me. [8D]

LilRob, I'm still not sure how everyone else is seeing the pages here. When I came all the way through from the Trains.Com homepage, I just saw the overall forum list and then got to the Coffee Shop (page with the *very* first posts here), and then clicked on the last page link to get to the page where you'd written. Still puzzled...[%-)]

My setup, if that makes any difference, is that I have popups turned off, and I use tabbed browsing (if I Command-click - think that would be like a right click on Windows - it opens another tab in my browser with that page. Then if I need to go between a couple of pages or a page and the reply page, I just click on the other tab. I can do a screen grab and get a picture for you if you email me. Maybe that'll begin to clear things up...

Blessings on your day (hoping it's less confused than mine),

[:O] Duh! The light finally came on (about page 1 or 2)! After taking a look around at other forums with one tab open for the forums list, it hit me!![banghead]

Everyone has been talking about the list (which - gee, Jim! - is ranked by how many posts the particular forum topic has (or has recently been getting)), So when someone says they're going to bump it up to page one, they mean they're generating additional posts to put the CShop back up on the top page (in the highest number of posts compared to other forum topics. Guess (since I'm not highly competitive in things other than chess or volleyball) I hadn't thought ot it until just now.
[#wstupid]

Maybe I'm not such a quick learner, after all...[xx(][X-)][oops] Zoe, could I have a little ginko biloba with my coffee? Thanks.

Sometimes it helps just to play around with things to figure out what's happening(?)...

JimRCGMO, that was what I was trying to say. You finally got it. You are right, sorta. When someone say's that they're giving us a bump they're making a reply to keep us on the 1st page of topics. The topics are usually sorted by the most recent post. So, if no one replies frequently the coffee shop will move to the 2nd page of topics. I hope this clears things up for you.

Hi to everyone out there,[:)]
I come to read the new posts in the coffee shop once in a while but I can't keep up with the volume of new post [:0]. Looks like every time I come to read the news about everybody, there's 5 or 6 new pages[:p]. And after reading all or some of it, I have nothing to write about...[:I] Anyway a nice weekend to all.

A quick dash in before I go to quiet Rosie-the-dog with her evening offering [:D] I've been experimenting with Lepages' Exterior Wood Filler as a sort of Sculpamold substitute. I had some on hand and needed something quick to make the highway and diches better. so, here's the result as it dries, and naturally, before sanding down. The white chip at the start of the road is foamcore to match the foamcore road on the doorway module. Where the filler goes out "cross country" from the road is a low spot that I think will turn into a drain from a culvert under the road. It's there to seal a join between two bits of foam!

Jim, For your GP9M project, may I suggest that you start with the shell of an Walthers GP9M, or if the Motor works well enough, just use that as a base point. You could take the shell off of the Walthers unit and stick it with a little modification on an Athearn Or other motor and frame. If you were to detail up the shell and add your roads scheme, you’d have it. That’s what I plan to do to make my WSOR GP9M’s. Now for the prototype, the WSOR used to have 5 GP9M’s, and they had I think two or three Non dynamic and the rest were, or vice versa. Now, if that represents the real population of GP9M’s, then I would be they were about equal. It’s up to you what you want to do. As far as seeing it? Without the dimentions, here’s one drawing: http://trainiax.0catch.com/emdgp9rmnodbph1.gif and there are more here: http://trainiax.0catch.com/mescalelocoemd.htm scroll down the page aways. With Dimensions? Be darned if I know, let me know if you find one.

Well after many weeks of struggling with the durn Building, I finally got it done!!!!! So, I come to offer you all many pre-weathering pictures of this afternoon. Here goes:

Here’s an overall of the front. It shows the front awning, as well as the front windows, and a few of the down spouts.

Here’s a shot of the two truck loading doors. There will be no actual Rail car unloading thing on the building, but I will be running pipes across an access road on the opposite side of the build from this spot, to hoses on the ground next to the track that are theoretically the hooked up to the Plastics cars and the plastic is pumped out.

Here’s a top view. The roof needs to be worked on, as there are gaps between panels, not big but still there, and I’m hoping that some heavy weathering will make them virtually disappear.

Try clicking on the pictures, they look better.

Well, there are the fruits of my labor, and I hope you like them. I will post more photos after completing the weathering (which could be another few weeks, like it took me to get to this point).

Guess I better go, I’ve got church in a little while and things to do.

Good afternoon all! A tall glass of OJ for me Ed.

Just finished another two rows of ceramic tile in the train room, and over half the room is finished now. I hope to get in another few rows tomorrow and it will be close to 2/3 done.

Hey, Ryan, we’re talking about Teffy here - that’s mediation/negotiation, not that heavy stuff like meditation/relaxation/breathing/etc. You’re gonna give poor Bob a headache if you try to get him to meditate!

Jim,
Opps! I goofed that one up, it was late and all! Thanks for the redirect and sorry for the mix-up!
But hey, meditating about mediation might help with the negotiation.

Flip,
You are the man! I look forward to seeing the rail activity. Interesting about the repair shop signs, I wonder what type of repair they are due for at the shop. Thanks again!

John,
The foam and wood filler is really looking good. I have a half full container of floor wood filler left over from a parquet wood floor project, and I’ve been wondering if I could ever use it up. I just might be able to do something with it now! Thanks a bunch!

Noah,
Ditto on the great job with the structure!

Gotta go for now!

I am getting ready to boil up some lobsters; Monique requested it as part of our Valentines weekend celebration!

Good evening guys, it has been a somewhat frustrating day for me. First, the wife reminded me that the Pellet stove needed cleaning. If any of you own a Pellet stove, then you know what I mean when I say it is a dirty job when you do the full main tenance clean. I could have passed for an Afro when I was done. But, the job went OK. The trouble was in the Train room!! The troffer lights that are in the new suspended ceiling take two "U" shaped T12 flourescent bulbs. They mount Ok into the sockets, but the bent end of the bulb has this poorly engineered open clip to hold the curved end. It is both too small and tight to get onto the bulb without bending the daylights ( no pun intended) out ot it. I lost it several times as bulbs popped out and clips went fying across the room. .[:(!]

So after church, I took the bulbs back to HD, and the guy in the electrical dept and I had a show and tell. He said the bulbs were correct in size, but the clips were indeed a poor design...NICE !!! We fitted a couple, but the clip has to be right at the peak of the curve, and you have to bend the clips quite a bit to get it to hold at all. Tomorrow will be a fun day mounting all the lamps into the dumb clips.
I fully intend to call the company on Monday and have a nice conversation with their engineers.

Der John: Real nice work on mountains and culvert, boy, I can't wait to get to the fun part.

Noah: Excellent grades in Math and Science, these are key subjects for engineering, and you have top marks. Keep it up Noah, you have a nice future ahead of you.

Luc: the prize is either going to be a copy of Lupo's har, or, the Parrot.

By the way guys, I FOUND the Parrot!!! Here is the Web site to see who captured and trained the Parrot.....not in Mexico Ed, and it never made it to Nova Scotia either, it is here in Massachusetts at: http://media.animal.discovery.com/fansites/petstar/videogallery/season3/ep309_winner.html

I need a coffee, see you later guys,
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Good Evenin' Everybody,
It's been a good couple of days in the mountains. As Teffy and Bill have already mentioned, the floor installation went well. We had no problems getting the toliet out and back in, eveything works, and the water is staying where it belongs. The floor looks really good and the decorating and color selection commitee members like it a lot. I think that all counts as a win. Tomorrow afternoon I've got to install the baseboards and corner mouldings and that will wrap it up.

Today I took Louise down to her conference in Gainesville and then went galavanting. Had a good time at the train store ( TrainMaster's in Duluth). it's a good store. They have a good inventory and very nice people. I picked up a couple of the new Walthers 50' express reefers, which are very nicely done, and another Branchline 80' coach. I never made it to the RR museum though. I went browsing in a bookstore and found James Webb's new book, " Born Fighting, A History of the Scots-Irish in America". He's been one of my favorite authors since his first book, "Fields of Fire", came out in the late 70's. I started reading it while I was waiting on TrainMasters to open and got hooked. It's an excellent book. If you have any interest in the subject, I recommend it highly.

Bill and I are finally going exploring Wednesday. We've scheduled it and cancelled it a number of times due to one thing or another. This time we've both carved it in stone and we're going. It should be a lot of fun.

Noah, helping out at the nursing home dance is a very cool thing to do. I hope it goes well and you enjoy it. It's definitely something worth doing and I'm sure it will be appreciated. The building really looks good. That's a very nice job.

JimRCGMO, the ceramic tile will be Fergie proof IF he shows up with his soldering iron. If he shows up with a big hammer, you'd better stop him at the door.

Philnrunt, when are you planning on heading this way? Kennesaw is only about 1 3/4 hrs. from here. Is there any chance you could swing by this way?

Teffy, I enjoyed your call, and your timing was excellent. i'm glad the mediation school is going well so far. That's also something that's well worth doing. Yes, i'm pretty much on a first name basis with most of the folks at Home Depot. And yes, the lumber leaves a lot to be desired. But that's the case with it at most places anymore.

Ed, no, there is no phone in the bathroom! I was on the cordless phone. A cab forward mike sounds like something the Southern could have used on the Rat Hole Division. even with the Wimble smoke ducts the smoke and fumes in all those tunnels had to have been terrible. It would be an interesting looking locomotive, too.

Grayfox, my next project? You mean I can't just go work on the railroad? Heck! Seriously, next up is refinishing Louise's treadle type Singer sewing machine. It was her Mom's, and it's the machine she learned to sew on. It's beautiful quarter sawn oak, but it's showing it's age. That's an easy, fun type project.

I'd better go for now.
Have a great evening, everybody,
Tom

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Nice day down here in Paradise. Cloudy, but pleasant. It’s supposed to warm up even more tomorrow.

We spent a nice mid-day out at the orange grove. [:)] My M-I-L gets the biggest kick out of squeezing the oranges and making O.J. right there in the grove. We bring a 5 gal container and she fills it up with juice. That lasts about 2 days here in the house, what with some being parceled out to a couple of other S-I-L’s and their families who live close by. Plus we bring back enough oranges to squeeze more juice here in the house.

Tomorrow is a big day, we’re actually going to sell some of the oranges. [^] So the guy with the truck and the pickers (totally manual labor here) will be out there around 09:00. We won’t get that much for the fruit, but at least it will offset a little of the cost of maintaining the grove.

I did get some good surform work done this afternoon, so the hills are starting to take shape. [tup] Tomorrow, after returning, I’ll use some spackle to smooth out some of the joints. I’m getting close to being able to put on some ground foam, can’t wait. This really going to make a huge difference in the layout.

QUOTE: der: …your order is on me, Enjoy Virtually anything!
’Virtually”? Groan.

QUOTE: Teffy: When it gets closer to time I'll call the offspring and let them tell you how to get here. You may remember some of the roads and they can refresh your memory.
Once I have your address I can use Mapquest for directions and a map. That works pretty good. But I expect that it will be fairly familiar country.

QUOTE: LilRob: Teffy, when Ed comes down, let me know. I may come down and meet both of you.
That would be great if you can. We’re targeting Monday March 28th, the day after Easter Sunday.

Paul, congrats on the new arrival. My daughter, who lives in Cleveland, TX, is awaiting a blessed event from one of her mares, probably next week.

QUOTE: Were a couple of real Texas typhoons.
Then I hope you well “blows in”. [;)]

QUOTE: Ryan: Monique and I are going to a Valentine Chocolate Fantasy fund raiser for the local PBS TV station on Sunday afternoon with my parents, chocolate everything, should be fun!
Yum, sounds delicious, too! I’m glad it’s you and not me doing that tile work. I’ve got a good tile guy to do what I need done here. Our entire house is floored with ceramic tile, even the roof terrace.

QUOTE: I am getting ready to boil up some lobsters; Monique requested it as part of our Valentines weekend celebration!
Wow, lobsters, chocolate, home improvement work!! Man, you’re racking up some big points with the Mrs. [:D]

QUOTE: … Hey, are you going to have the “20,000th Post Contest” after this milestone is set?
I’m sure we’ll think of something.

QUOTE: Luc: What will be the prize for number 10000?
Free entrance and personal guided tour of the Trolley Museum near Brantford, Ont. Rob will serve as your personal guide. Do you want to see the fine print that goes with that?

QUOTE: TrolleyRob: As for the 10000th winner if it's may the museum is just openning for the season so it would have to be a weekend or holiday.
They don’t have to make the trip as soon as they win the prize, they should at least be allowed to wait until Canadian summer (isn’t that August 6th in your area? [;)] ) until they have to head north and collect.

QUOTE: der: …When we were on the west coast at Campbell River on Vancouver Island…
I didn’t know you once lived in Campbell River! (Or have we had this conversation and I just forgot about it?) I had a chance to go on a fishing trip out there in the fall of ’75. What a neat place. Loved salmon fishing in a small boat out in the middle of the Strait of Georgia. [^]

QUOTE: Duke: Mind if I put my [2c] in??
I sat in the background for a little while and watched and listened to what was going on in here before I decided to make myself known…………….Thanks for being what you people are.
You’re more than welcome. It’s a group effort, I’m glad you decided to join in. But about those [2c], Zoe’s starting to complain that you’re not tipping enough!! [:D]

QUOTE: We are having a one year birthday party for the youngest granddaughter and it is going to be a house full.
Oh, congrats. Hope you enjoyed the party.

QUOTE: JP: …ranked SU Orange (my home team!) are going to be on ESPN as they take on Villanova …..... LET'S GO ORANGE!
I can relate to that, Let’s Go Oranges ……. er … make that Orange!!

QUOTE: Chris: I come to read the new posts in the coffee shop once in a while but I can't keep up with the volume of new posts. Looks like every time I come to read the news about everybody, there's 5 or 6 new pages. And after reading all or some of it, I have nothing to write about...
Tell me, I stop in continually and I can barely keep up. Of course, I'm retired and I don’t have a life outside of the forum [:D] . Our success will be our own undoing. Don’t feel like you have to keep up with everything, just drop in and say Hi now and then when you can.

John, forget the wood filler road, tell me is that a tall stone viaduct on the right side of the picture? Have you shown that before or was I just sleeping? And is the pile on top a rockslide or talus slope?

Nice building Noah, a bit modern for my layout but looks like you did a good job. I look forward to the weathering shots. Plastic pellets, for the industry in the building?

[#welcome] Welcome to the Coffee Shop, Big JP. Glad you have the “Big” as part of your screen I.D., so we can tell you and JP apart. What part of the Mountaineer State do you live in? More importantly, what scale to you model in? Think carefully before answering, your Coffee Shop combination electronic I.D. badge, door pass, charge account card, and imitation NMRA track gauge will be forever imprinted with your response. [swg]

Whew, that was an epic just catching up. And I stayed up late last night trying to post a couple of notes just to get ahead of the game. Okay, clean slate again.

Hasta mañana

Noah, you never cease to amaze. The roof came out fine. What did you use in the end?[^]

The weather was mild enough today to tempt me into washing the van after all. It worked OK, only froze on the hood and windshield which were pointed away from the sun![:D] Big surprise, it's grey, not brown[(-D]

Thought that I would strike while the inspiration was hot, and have a go at that drain/culvert idea. So here's the fruit of this evening's labours. The abutments are just press fit into place as I will need to remove them for further scenery work around them. The ground cover paint is my generic latex odd muddy green that I got at our local hardware store from a stack of cans going cheap because they were custom mixes that the customer didn't like in the end. I'm really liking N scenery, but keep forgetting to take out my N scale rule. The abutments are therefore 12 foot long in Horribly Oversized![:O][:D]Made from scrap styrene and bits of a drinking straw I thought Zoe wouldn't miss!

Ryan:
QUOTE: John,
The foam and wood filler is really looking good. I have a half full container of floor wood filler left over from a parquet wood floor project, and I’ve been wondering if I could ever use it up. I just might be able to do something with it now! Thanks a bunch!
Just so we are on the same page, this stuff has the consistency of butter icing, and sets up on whatever you are using to spread it with while you are not looking - sound familiar?
Hope you enjoyed the lobsters. Around here Sober Island lobsters are regarded as the best in the world. Fergie and Luc would doubtless argue the point however! [:D]
[#welcome] BigJP. Do you have a layout, if so what scale? Stay and tell us more why not?

QUOTE: I can't wait to get to the fun part.
What , stupidly designed clips aren't enough fun already?
Thanks for the kind words, BTW, and it is fun. I don't know why I was putting off this section for so long.
That is one well trained bird! And to think, it probably TJLC[(-D] I notice that it's grey, not blue, so maybe the real parrot is still on the loose?

Better tidy up and get ready for bed, as I see it's that time again.[zzz]
goodnight all, and God Bless.
