Morning all

Just popping in to say hi, not a lot happening here. Cold and grey with occasional rain outside. In a bit of a dead zone with the MRR at the moment - waiting for parcels to find their way through our increasingly eccentric postal system. I have a couple of decoders on order from one supplier and a Fleischmann diesel on the way from an eBay auction, will post some pics of it alongside the "Silberlinge" cab car I'm planning to run it with when it arrives.

Rob, Interested to hear that you see a lot of roll-over accidents? I'm of the firm opinion that the problem is poor driving skills/experience rather than the vehicle with many of these - they just don't know how to handle something a little more challenging than whatever they passed their test in. I've only seen one flipped Land Rover (out of however many hundred we have in this area - all the farmers drive them along with forest workers, electricity board, etc), these are usually driven by "serious" people who're using it as a tool and know what they're doing rather than people who've bought it as a fashion item (who usually haven't driven anything larger than a BMW 3-series previously and have very little experience of heavy vehicles).

Also interested to hear about the FP9. If they plan this carefully it could enable them to turn out a batch of the FL9 - the 5 axle variant of which 50 were built for the New Haven RR, these could run from either onboard diesel power or pick up from a third rail in New York city. Athearn would need to do some careful design work on the shell to allow the alternate components, and also design the frame to allow the 3-axle rear truck and different fuel tank to be fitted. I think it'd be worth it though - Bachmann spent a fortune tooling up their E33 (of which only around 12 were built?), so limited numbers of the prototype isn't necessarily going to result in poor sales. I have a couple of the old E R Models FP7s which are great locos, though the detailing's not up to the very latest standards - it's close to early Proto 1k with moulded handrails, etc. The chassis are excellent though, built by Roco so diecast frame, hefty motor, flywheel, drive on both trucks, and DCC-ready (socket fitted).

Well, that's all for now, hoping my packages will turn up soon!
