Afternoon all, iced tea Janie please, no make that one of Steve's ginger beers instead.Back from Effingham finally, seen a lot of V W’s at the car show, over 200 I think some one said. Bout any kind that was built or modified was there on the grounds. Got a few pics to post laters.
Rail fanning wasn’t that good though, I got a few. If I was at the IC tracks, CSX would go through and vise / versa.

Chuck / Kathey , glad you have the recipe again, it’s a gooden. [ I won’t tell ]
I had an AF issue knife on my belt and a Swiss army knife in my sock. Guess you could say I cheated, only suppose to carry one.

Neal , didn’t think to thank ya for the layout pics, looks mighty fine, that’s an elaborate lay out you have. Hope mine looks that good.

Mother’s bout done with the birthday cake for tonight, and we have cookout to go to in a bit, so guessing I need to get ready fur that. Seems like every weekend there’s something going on now, I just like to set ta home.

Rain today, and the insurance safety audit chap came and went without too much hassle. Nothing major to fix I’m glad to say. Didn’t even take issue with the uncovered blue foam in the train room. Our friends who moved recently have 6 months to cover the Styrofoam on their basement walls or their company will cancel the insurance!
I found an empty eyeglass cleaning fluid spray pump and tried it for spot spraying where I have to touch up the ballast. Works great, it’s a very fine mist in small doses.[tup] So that’s another thing that I can get done.
Last couple of days has been busy at the museum getting things back to rights after a major reno on the house. The stairs are still being painted, so I’m at home today.

AlaskaPeter:
QUOTE: Not sure what brand of paint, etc to use.
…As I said, I use $Store acrylics. The brand name varies store to store. I dilute with water, and always use a filter. The dilution factor is trial and error, as the paints seem to differ, and of course airbrushes vary too, and then there’s the pressure at which one sets the compressor! I generally hold a piece of scrap card behind the rail anyway, to catch the worst of the over-spray. I use that card as a screen against which to test the paint flow, adjusting the spray nozzle until a satisfactory flow is achieved. If no sf is possible for any given dilution/pressure combination. I dilute a little more. Too dilute a mix doesn’t cover, so more paint gets added in until there is a workable result. You ca of course brush, but I found it to be boring and awkward. I did that for the lower yard on my layout. Wasn’t fun.
I’ve almost no experience with airbrushing organic solvent based paints as I don’t like having to clean up with organic solvents.(to say nothing of the fumes about which *** so eloquently relates in his basement discussion.) When the paint is set, but not iron hard, I scrape off the rail head with a piece of scrap rail in a holder.
If you are nervous about scratching the rail head, use a cloth to wipe the wet paint off. I went with the scraper because I couldn’t get the cloth to wipe JUST the railhead, and ended up with patches of rail that I had to re-do.[banghead]

Mike:
QUOTE: Well maintained grain elevator they have there
…Yes, they do look after it fairly well, although I’ve not seen them at it.[(-D]. One thing I noticed, my card mock up of the shed for loading the hoppers has a very inaccurate roof line compared to the photo. I’ll get that better when I do the styrene version.

Ryan:
QUOTE: They are going to meet the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.
…now, as long as Kris and I don’t watch the series at any point, Edmonton has a decent chance at taking it![^]

***: That’s some workout. I did a double take on the bananas, but then I remembered the Potassium. Good for you![tup]
QUOTE: received the track order from Internet trains, boy are they slow. It was over a month just to get track,
…Things are relative. If it came by mail, I’d say that was fast.[:D]
Duke:
QUOTE: Chuck
QUOTE: Want a '56Vincent in premo condition?????.
Do you have a pic?? Too bad you are on the other side of the country because I sure would like to see (drool) it
…When I saw what chuck had written, I thought that that would twitch your wires![:D]

Fergie:
QUOTE: By Mike.. Fergie , how long till you ship out again to polar bear country.
…Mike was, nice fellow that he is, not thinking of your beloved Cutleaf Creeping Japanese Maple. Kris, however, said “The minute he sails, it’s dead!”[:O] [(-D]

Neal: Thanks for the layout photos. Nice work![tup] Your lake and river look great, and I like the greys in the backdrop too.

Zoë, I’ll have a Russian Caravan tea please (but not the Yak butter!), Thanks PC.
Tried a no sugar added cookie with the morning coffee, and the sugars went crazy. I know how Kathy feels, Chuck. Humilin N is pretty forgiving though, I find, but not in the short term.

Good Afternoon All: Once again it's almost go home time. Yesterday was a fun day. We went out to John's place to get some hay. Had one flat on the way out and a blow out coming home. Both of these were on his trailer. So Mom and Dad bought him four new tires for the trailer. we told him that was our wedding gift. The right side for Diane and the left for him.

Not a whole lot going on here. We got the last of the scrap lumber at the depot loaded up and they were going to haul it out this morning and bring back another load of hay. I'm hoping that they will both be worn out when I get home so I can get a rest.

The weather is hot and dry here. I guess we'll have another spell of dry again this year. We're going to cut hay soon. It isn't all that good but it isn't going to get better by waiting. Without rain it just won't grow. Now the grass along the UP's right of way is doing great. I wiish we could bale that like we used to.

I'm going to cut and run. Make that walk. I'll stop back in tonight.

Good morning y'all.

Duke- Dan's Hobby shop is on the east side of Ocala. S.R. 40. If I remember correctly, C.R. 35 is 2 to 4 streets further east. The shop is in a mid-size mall/ shopping center.
Do a map-quest for a better idea.

[#welcome] To all the newbies. I have neglected to say hello as I haven't been in as much. Just sitting in the corner sipping on my vodka and 7Up.

Prayers have been and are being said for those in need.[Everyone]

Neal, we've had road kill, i even got a recipe for it,

ROAD KILLET STEW
MEAT: What ever ya find laying along the road. If ya think it might be a bit tough ‘run over it a couple more times to tenderize (fir squirrel an rabbit once be enough, utter wise ya get critter pancakes). Skin it out clean up what rock an sand ya kin, wash right good.
Stick it in a pot of buriling water.
Add plenty sage’ wild garlic un onion tops un all, salt, peppers to taste a tad better.
Veggies: whats erer ya gots in the ice box, or whats ripe in the neighbor’s garden.
Cook it2 ta 3-hour strirrin once in a while (don’t sture bottom a pot, cause that’s where the sand un rock be un don’t dish it up from there either).
Server with ditch greens, when it smell obout right.
Feed a mess of yungings if ya add some more taters ur cattail root ta the pot.
(CAUTION)
DON’T use anythun to old ur to flat. All so skunk un buzzard makes it smell alittile on the funny side

Makes ya a fine meal

Greeting All,
Just a cup of your fantastic coffee Girls.

INCH Thanks for the comment on the photos. I have some photos of the HO layout for your prusial.

PC I guess I was the one that started that about the rat with Inch. I didn't know he would just eat about anything. Now I'm wondering if he keeps an eye open for any ROADKILL.

Well I need to get out of here. It's Saturday here and I'm allowed to work on the railroad today. Had a good report from the local weather guy. We had a cold front come through last night and droped the temp by about 3 degrees [wow]. My layout is in the top of the barn. I have a large shop fan and three ceiling fans but it still gets hot.
Happy Railroading,

Mornin all, jest some coffee for now please Janie.
Beautiful day here, humidity’s down, looking for a high near 80.
Heard you folks in the NE are getting hit again with rain and may need the water wings. Hope the flooding is minimal up your way. Got busy day lined up, trip to Effingham for our monthly grocery’s and a VW car show at Mid-America, Bryan n Penny’s taking bugsy over. There’s a Corvette museum also, plan on going through it. Jamie and the kids may come down for the night too. Oh almost forgot, we have a cookout at 6

PETER I hope the wife's car is not too serious, that could cut into your MRR plans heavily. The new cars today are not like we had in the 50"s, we could fix most of the cars ourselves, but not today, too much specialty test equipment needed. As for your track weathering, there seems to be two distinct camps: one group likes to weather after the tracks are laid, while the other group like to weather the track in bulk outside in the open air. I have read several MRR articles in several books, as well as advice from members of the CS, and they all make very good points. My train room has no windows, is in the basement, the adjacent room houses the furnace, so I have two bad situations, not much fresh air source for fume ventillation, plus, fumes would be evacuated past the furnace via fan/s if I decided to do that. NOT GOOD....fire hazard for sure. So I will weather all my trach outside in fresh air, then I will touch up any areas that might crack on the flex tract when bending into place. This will result in far less fumes in the room. Also, after drawing the tracks line on the table, I can form the track and then take it outside to weather. This will result in very litle cracking if any. That is my[2c]

Well thanks for the information ***. The mechanic thinks it is the timing belt as I suspected. Bad things seem to come in pairs or more... but I wasn't really planning on modeling much this summer. With only really three months of really nice weather in Alaska, you just got to be outside.
With all the track laid and semi permanent, I am going to have to do the weathering where it is (in a crawl space with no windows, eight foot ceilings though). I am thinking of just brushing on the rust paint... think that will work? What is a good brand of paint to use for brushing and airbrushing?
Thanks again!
Peter

Evening all, barley pop and the LG. T bone[rare of course] sweet tater, pickled beets, and brussel sprouts, Cleo. I’d hate to think PC got out of here without at least a couple big bills.
Forgot the oldest granddaughter, Beth, was having surgery on her left shoulder today [part of the car wreck she was in last Thanksgiving] surgery went OK. They got all the damage repaired. She was wanting to go to a military school at Rantoul, IL, but don’t think the docs will release her in time for her to start.
Been working on my tiller too Grayfox , been to wet here for much gardening. Got it going before the rains came back in, and then the recoiler went and had to order one. It came today, now the grounds to wet again.

RT , hope your diet goes well, you still doing OK, even with the paintin.

Mother to another jewelry party, hope she sells a lot, could use the money. Was going to mow this evening, but Mother forgot to get any mower gas. Lets see no mower gas and grounds to wet to till, guess I’ll head fur the train room.
Thoughts n prayers for all in need.

Good afternoon gents, spent the afternoon working on the rototiller. After taking the tiller section apart right down to the gears, I don't see any signs of trouble. The large bronze drive gear looks fine as well as the metal worm drive gear that meshes with the bronze gear. The roller bearings are all good, no chips or wear indicated.
What I did find however, is the dog-clutch has all three leading edges tapered worn. This "dog" clutch as it is called, when placed in the "engage" position, couples the power from the engine via the transmission to the tiller drive shaft. So, I will replace the dog and see if this corrects the noise.

Tomorrow should be a good day to work on the tiller, assuming that the parts are available without ordering. We have all kinds of bad weather due tomorrow with severe TS's and downpours forecasted.

Time for supper, I am hungry for a nice fish meal...... talk later guys,

....I can't find the thread about 1/2 0r ?????thick ply, so here goes I use 1/2 CDX and fill all the holes if any with mud and sand smooth and level then use it plenty strong enough as long as spacers are within 16 inches.
........***......
I don't know either. Kathy has been taking 15 morn and nite "N" for a long time also eating a good sensible diabetic diet [me] 4 times a day for years and no troubles except when she eats some "goodies" occasionally ...So her regular dr. moved out of state and the service recommended this new dr. an endrocronoligest and she screwed everything up......Now we went back to her original uses and she changed to our family dr that has been seeing both of us for about 3 yrs. and the sugars are coming back in line with what they were last week, and she is feeling much better and quit b******ng at everything including me. So thank you all for listening and thats enough of that for a while I hope....
.......PETER....
I usually thake my rail outside a whole bunch at a time and spray it with a mixture of india ink and boxcar red toned way down, if needed I still have the mixtures written down so that I can duplicate them in case they are needed.
......BILL NORTH.....
They taste like chicken that has been burned. Rats that is although not as sweet as monkey brains LOL LOL LOL
.......DUKE.......
I envy you, my drs have told me not to ride ever again or else.....So Kathy and I have been debateing on selling all my bikes. Want a '56Vincent in premo condition?????..............To all in need prayers and God Bless.......Chuck and Kathy...
Remember model railroad logging is a FUN business and we all need FUN........ACD

Unfortunately, my trains have been in storage since about September. The govt. said they wanted to do this quickly,.....I should have known. [B)]
