Hey Chris don't i feel silly[D)][D)][D)] Don't get me wrongI have the utmost resopect for what you do,my dad was a police sergent for many years and saw many a real bad guy get the 'ol' pat on the head slap on the wrist type thing. Not the crowns falt or the judges for that matter some of our laws just need some revamping. Enough rambling I don't like snow either have way to much piled up outside my house. i'm in Brantford BTW glad to have you aboard let me grab the next round. Spent the latter part of the morning watching the 60th.anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on BBC World. Very moving and solemn, especially as day went to dusk and then dark, with snow falling. That's when the heads of state of all the European countries involved began to place candles at monuments along the rail line that had brought so many hundreds of thousands to their deaths there. In the final minutes fires were set along the rails for perhaps 100 yards.
The President of Israel was pulling few punches when he spoke not only of the Nazi brutality, but also of the reluctance of the allies to bomb those tracks and stop the masacre. Somber thoughts.

I'm waiting for a reply from a chap on the ndcc.yahoo group. Sounds like he has a NCE DCC system that uses a 6 wire phone line for the walk around. The MRC Prodigy I have requires an 8 wire ethernet cable(expensive) to do a walkaround, and I've got the 6 wire already installed for my Tech4 in DC. So, I'll be interested in what he has to say.
Looks like we may chalk up another "page decade" today. Glad we got thte second car to hold all the folks who come by. Amazing how Zoe keeps all the orders straight![(-D]

Hi all, have been meaning to join in here for a while now (just got round to it!) Guess an introduction would be in order, I'm 22, a full-time student at University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and model HO scale - my layout's a fictional museum vaguely based on the Illinois Railway Museum. Having said that I also have some N and G scale equipment, the N's mainly German as is the G. I also have some British OO scale.

Have been reading the posts about snow - wish we had some, best so far this year's been about 1cm of the stuff, hopefully there'll be more before spring arrives!

Zoe I would like a hot cup of tea while I try to sort out what the inquiring minds would like to know.
I am like a few of you,had a small layout going at one time,then kids and had to wait awhile before I could start again. Kids are married and have thier own now, so I am finally starting some bencwork again. I am one of those HO guys,and it looks like they need a little help from time to time.
As to my BD,my mind tells me I am still about 25,but then my body reminds me that I am 57 and will be one more in Oct. if I make it that far.
Paul, I have a friend (I think I am up on my dues) in Del. that is into the 7.5 as well,and I see him once a year in a little town called Apex N.C. I first met him when I was stationed at Dover,and he taught me to run a 15" Crown. It was a lot of fun!! STEAM!!!!
I think I have answered some of the questions,but I can't answer all of them now,because there wouldn't be anything more to learn.
As time goes on,I will learn how to some of the little extras.

Oh yeah,I don't even want to get started on the Cal. thing.

Jim, the first laser that I worked on was White light, I walked into the lab and it was dark, the PHD told me to stop and put on these special glasses. In 2 short minutes, I knew why......he turned on the make shift laser and it burned a perfect hole right through 1" plate steel!!! That impressed me! I worked with him for about 2 months on the project. The company was a small R&D non profit Co., it was funded by big Co's who wanted us to find uses for new technology/tools on the threshold of discovery. Never, did I realize when I worked on that 1st laser, that some 40 years later, this tool would burn DVD's, perform medical operations, dental laser, lasers to correct eyesight, etc. etc.

Luc, I hope Gloria is feeling better today, we shall continue to pray for her.

Fergie, the 2-6-6-2 is sweet, it doesn't go with my theme of MEC and B&A, B&M RR's, but who cares right ?

CBS showed a graphic last night of how the CA train wreck occured after that dimwit left his truck on the tracks. He obviously is a very sick person. I really feel badly for those families who lost loved ones and many more are injured too.

Tim: would you believe I saw a blue parrot on the birdfeeder today? The 1st I have ever seen here in New England, and in the WINTER too. He seemed to love the snow!! He had a sign on his back saying NS or bust.....I assume this means he is headed for Luc, John and Fergie's bird feeder next.

Chris: you may not like the snow in Montreal, but it sure is nice up there in the summer and Fall!! BTW, all of my family on my father's side came from Montreal area, Valleyfield also. The 1st came from France in 1680's and many large families after that..Jubinville is as common in the phone book of Montreal as Smith and Brown are down here. My GGgrandfather came to this area from Canada in 1870's.

Train room update: Today I thought I was going to start early on the room to get the joints all plastered, but a 7am my son called from work and asked me to do some snowplow duty. You see, I have two sons that live over the hill from me and have driveways that would scare the h... out of most drivers, like fuel oil delivery trucks. Their driveway is a winding 450 foot long road up the side of a wooded hillside, rising 160 feet above the lower town road. So good old dad had to go plow last nights 2 inches, ontop of yesterdays 7 inches. Of course Saturdays 22 inches left very little room to push snow, and edges are completely hidden by the drifts. Get the picture of this guys??
The old PU truck performed well and an hour later we arrived bach home safe and sound. Now they tell us that we have yet another snowstorm due next Monday into Tuesday.
And the U.S. Weatherbureau just said that Boston, and Worcester, Mass, have broken their all time January snow records!! I can hardly wait to see what February brings!!!

Then you’re right in the middle of some of the best preserved steam in the world. I’d love to have time to visit Wales and wander around visiting all the old steam roads and museums. I was there very briefly in 2001 for a visit to the refinery at Pembroke.

Teffy needs to be concerned. I actually got the lead out and restarted work on the layout this afternoon. [:0] Did the roadbed and prep work for the last three spurs. If I get the track laid tomorrow that will be essentially the end of trackwork. Then on to foaming, I mean on to foam scenery. [;)]

Today was another good day in the mountains. Not much railroading got done, but quite a lot was accomplished on the bathroom remodel. It was sunny and warm today, but the temperature is dropping rapidly and there's a winter storm warning for tomorrow night and Saturday all the way down into middle georgia. They're calling for ice, freezing rain or snoah, depending on how it develops. We'll just have to wait and see.

Re the guy in California who caused the accident: two bucks worth of rope sounds like a good solution to me. All those innocent lives ended or changed terribly, and he didn't have the courage to do it. Unfortunately, the people of California may well wind up paying for his care and treatment for a long time. Justice can be hard to come by sometimes.

Philnrunt, I think one of the good things about getting older is that we learn what's really important and what's not. Consequently we pick our fights more carefully. I think there are a handful of really important things in life and they are worth fighting fiercely for. Most everything else is piddly stuff. The trick is recognizing the difference and acting accordingly. Sometimes it's a lot easier to say than it is to do.

Paul, what you can do yourself and what has to be done by a licensed person does vary greatly by area. The regs are still pretty relaxed around here. As the area grows and becomes more developed, they will tighten up considerably.

Luct, I'm sorry to hear that your wife is still having problems with the kidney stones. I hope she gets better really soon.

Got a lot of train running done tonight, ran the Kato for nearly 2 hours, and the Atlas and P2K for about 1 hour each. It sure is nice when you re-reach the point where everything runs right and smooth without having to help them.

trolleyboy: That's the advantage of having a Digitrax recruit at your local LHS, he has been asked to work for DT when he retires from the OKC fire dept. Z, N, and HO all have the same output, so it doesn't matter. I asked him why they made the different sizes instead of making them all smaller, and he couldn't figure that out either. I actually had him install, or actually teach me to install a decoder in an HO Kato, and the Z scale was his choice. That is something that makes a lot of difference in putting them in, it might mean you don't have to remove a weight.

*** and Duke: Plowing i has got to be bad. Never done it myself, but I have seen the pile at the WalMart after a large snowfall. I know its no fun to feed cattle in though, We had a 9180 CasIH four wheel drive tractor (roughly 40000 pounds on 8 48 inch tires) sliding sideways pulling the Chevy through six foot snow drifts last time we got a good snow. Its hard to imagine a machine that pulls a 54 foot field cultivator running 4 inches deep can actually falter like that in any condition.

OK now, question for the experts, or xspurts in Fergie's case, what is this loco? Just wondering what AT&L had been up to...

[#welcome] to all the new chaps, especially Matt in Welsh Wales. I remember a summer holiday cycle trip as a teenager up the A487,the Cader Idris pass, and down to Harlech castle on the A496. It was of course raining, and I had a cycle cape that caught the spray and grit from the front wheel despite the mud guard, and kept it all inside for mile after slow mile up that long grade! So much fun[;)] , but the castle was worth the ride. (I don't remember those road numbers, I got them from our copy of Bartholomew's which we brought with us when we came to Canada in 1967.[:D])

We were amazed in Spruce Grove, Alberta that I was allowed, even expected, to install the natural gas pipe line for the fireplace we put in our basement. Dug the trench, laid the pipe, made all the connections except the final one to the gas meter. Our next door neighbour had a pressure test meter, so we pumped up the system, and it held overnight. Next day the gas company came and did thei r final hook up. I can't think of any concievable way that would have been allowed in the UK. What do you think, Matt?

My favourite tea towel, now getting a bit past it, features "Great little trains of Wales" reading clockwise from the top left they are:-Snowdon Mountain Railway, Vale of Rheidol Railway, Fairbourne Railway, Ffestiniog Railway, Llanberis Lake Railway, Welshpool and Llanfair Railway, Bala Lake Railway, and in the middle, the Tayllyn Railway. The guy in Cali has been charged with murder and could be given the death penalty. If he does get it I guess he succeded in committing suicide.

Ed; I'd like to see you run Dicks 2-6-6-2 on your layout.

Last year an older man commited suicide at a crossing a mile east of us. He had found out that he had cancer and just pulled around the gate arm in front of a UP freight. Fortunately there was no derailment and he was the only one hurt. People in that frame of mind don't concider what the conciquences of there act are. They are only thinking of themselves, if they are thinking at all. The one thing that scares me is having a derailment on our place or even a mile away.

Well time to take my medication and hit the sack.
