A rain came through while ago and i thought the air was heavy before, it's even worse now, and more rain headed this way. Looks like the cookout at the MIL's will be in the pole barn.
Forgot tosay I did get over to the LHS and got every thing I went after, well every thing the CFO allowed, including my new scale rule.
Most the have to chores are done, time for fun in the train room.

Another hot for here today, temps in the 90’s, heat index 100++, we had a temp 99 for a little bit yesterday. Think I’ll spend some time in the AC today. Weather guesser, says there a chance of severe thunderstorms also.
Went outside abit ago and the airs so humid, you almost have to swim through it already.
Gotta cookout at the MIL’s at noon, then home for a while, then over to some friends in Marshall for fireworks.

NEWS from CASEY is that Huisinga Grain there has been sold to ADM, and there will be an Ethanol plant built on 10 acres beside it. Rail traffic is expected to increase also. Might have to do a little more rail fanning over that way.

Hey all...

On the MRR front, I just recently Ran a train the entire 16 feet on the main! woohoo!!
On thursday I will be going to My local electronics store to buy some wire to supply all the sidings where the power can't reach. so hopefully by the weekend My wiring will be done, atleast temporarily, until i solder the wires to the track.

I've also asked for a three year subscription to MR which will cost me A$185 here the mag costs $9.95ea month! so I'm saving a considerable amount!!!

I've also been running my SD45T-2 and it has been getting quieter not louder!! unusual for an Athearn isn't it?! also the front axle on the front truck likes to derail on my 22" radius, anyone know what to do? I'm guessing Joe Fugate would be the one to ask.... I think he had a similar problem....

Welcome ALEX.....I too received my first train set, a Lionel, when I was about 11, can't remember the exact age anymore now that I am 67, it seems so far back in time....1950 WOW , was it that long ago???

We had a quick hitter TS about 2 hours ago, some areas received 60 mph winds, and hail along with severe C to G lightening. Luckily, it died out just as it approached our town. One good thing about living only 50 miles from the 58F Atlantic Ocean, the colder air being drawn into the storm takes the pins right out from under the storm.

JERRY Ahhhh....change. It always bothered me for years. Then I started working for a hitech company that was "leading edge", and then I found out what CHANGE was REALLY all about. We had new bosses, new Org charts, new everything about every 18 months, talk about change. I got so used to changes after 10 years of it, that nothing bothers me much any more, I guess I'm just oblivious to it. And, after 45 years of marriage, if you don't know what change is by then, well, you must be living on another planet...LOL Put the sofa over here, no, I don't like it there, move it over here, etc etc, year after year. Change? It is mental gymnastics for the slowly moving towards Dimentia crowd.[:D][;)][(-D]

[#welcome] Alex - good to have another (what the rest call) Horribly Oversized MRR'er in the Shop, too. [yeah] We have some other younger MRR'ers in the shop - Scott/Trainfreak409, Noah Hofrichter (and others - I'm just having one of those brain freezes [;)]) Anyway, there are probably a half dozen who are in here from time to time. You'll get to know them as they come in. What RR line or time period do you model, by the way?

For example, my layout is currently a couple of (approximately) 2' x 4' each, with the aim of eventually combining them into a spare-bedroom size layout. I'm modeling a freelanced short line set in the Southwest (Four Corners area) in the 1950's (steam/diesel transition era). But in here, we have a variety of RR lines that people model, too.

Have a cup (or a soda) on me, and watch out for the TOP (top of page) - the custom here is that if you start a new page, you get to buy the drinks and muchies for the rest of the folks on the page. But not to worry - Phillip C, aka PC usually find the TOP pretty easily, so you probably won't get it much! [swg]

Welcome to the forum Alex. You're certainly welcome to join us here in The Coffee Shop. Just keep in mind that when you say "...I guess this would be the place to meet everyone..." that this thread is just a small part of the Model Railroader General Forum. In fact, there are only about 35 people who post more or less regularly in this thread. It has so many pages and so many posts because it has been going continuously for more than two years!

In other words, you will also want to branch out and post on other threads or create new ones yourself. Once in a while we actually talk trains in here.

Again, welcome to the forum and to The Coffee Shop.

More importantly, I believe that advertising rates are tied to subscription numbers, not including issues sold in stores, etc. So subscriptions help even Kalmbach even more.

My feelings exactly. I always hate it when one of my forums puts in new software and I have to get used to new formats, new colors, new icons, etc. They recently did that over on TrainBoard and I'm still finding new bells and whistles. And the older I get the less I like change.


Amazingly, I'm still ballasting. Bothers me a little to bend over and do detailed work like that for extende periods, so I have to take frequent breaks, which is why I'm back here instead of over there at the layout. Now I just have to work up my courage to start making trees.................

By the way, in the presidential election down here, with about 98% of the precincts reporting, the two main candidates are only 1% apart in votes. No electoral college business down here, it's total votes that decide the presidency. So there will be an official recount starting tomorrow morning, with final results due on Wednesday. But unless some hanky panky comes into play, 1% of the vote (about 500,000 votes) is tough to overcome in a recount.

Good afternoon gents, an outstanding day weatherwise today, 83F for a temp, Dew point (DP) is at 61F, and the Relative Humidity ( RH) is 48%....just ideal. We have been doing a ton of weading outside, flower beds, landscape , veggie garden. With all the record rains since April, the growth is unbelievable.

On the Train front, the General Forum has a thread or two regarding the new set up as of July 12th. Some people are really PO that they now have to subscribe to Trains or MRR in order to get the "perks" that Bergie's message outlined. I subscribe to both for multi year rates which is really the best way to go financially if you buy the mags each mnth or nearly every month. It has raised the ire of some people who threaten to quit the forum. Good Lord, I cannot see why such small perks can cause such a radical uprising. You might think that someone let a fox loose in the hen house. LOL
Or is it a Weasel in the hen house ???[:D][;)][(-D][(-D]
Hey, if the LHS will not survive unless I buy the monthly mag from him, then he already has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. I love getting the mags in the mail because I don't get to the LHS each month at the time that the mags arrive, so getting them in the mail is very predictable, also in fowl weather when travelling is not good. And, with the savings in the multi year mag rates, I can take the savings and buy more things at the LHS, so he wins also. Kalmbach wins also because they have predictable customer base, which in turn helps hold down the prices of the mags and THIS FORUM!! Server maintenance and upkeep is NOT cheap. Some people have the idea that Bergie and team does this for free, no pay raises either each year, no medical benefits or 401k's like many of the still working MRR's, or like we retired people had while working.....think out of the box guys!! [2c]

OK, time to get back outside, and Cloe, please set up my tab for Mike, Ryan, JP, John, Fergie, Luc, Paul, Bill, Ed, our Aussie friends, and all the other guys in the Coffee Shop today.... Colatas , and Rootbeer floats, the guys will be really thirsty today, very hot out.

Good Morning All,
Been hard to get motivated enough to get up early lately. Might be the heat. Not much to report on the MRR front as yesterday was cores then dinner at my oldest sons' with the rest of our lot. Tomorrow we'll head off to the shore for an afternoon at friends. Right now I'm doing paperwork and cleaning up the remnants from Saturdays thra***o deliver a car. Did pick up some powdered paint to try waethering the tracks ala Fugate so I'll let you know how that works.
Did get a post that Pat Hennaberry of Valley Model Train has his oldest son entering the Coast Guard Academy in New London today. Nice this time of year to be reminded that some young people still believe in serving their country.
PC - thanks for the pics (you too Inch and Ryan) in the spirit of the holiday vein, when you get in the older warbirds, especially the bombers, you get a real appreciation for the bravery of our airmen taking those things out on missions all over the world when they really look so primitive by any modern standard.
