Hi Gang:

Ben, a very happy birthday wish for you. Did you get some MRR stuff for your birthday?

I see that we have two guests with us today. I sometimes wonder what the un-initeated think of our babble.

I'm going to head out early. I need to go down to the depot and try and figure out where I'm going to put a temporay building for the steam locomotive. I'd rather not have it sitting out under a tarp for too long. I also need to move things around so we have a clear track through the depot area just in case I have to make a run. You never know when I'll have to make an emergency run to move a car load of OJ.

Well I've gotta go. Mary Ann wants to get the cows in and she needs me.

Just a short stop to relaxe a bit, been busy finishin up some things. Roni called bout 1 n said they were on their way, so they should be in bout 8 this evening. Mother's fixing chicken n noodles[home made noodles of course], and real taters, not the heat n eat kind. I'm tryin to talk her into some fried cabbage,but think i'm losing that one.
Sure be good to see the kids, haven't seen them in over a year.

Ryan, my favorite carpentry is building wooden toys and puzzles. I say I’m doing them to sell, but most the time I just give them away, though I have sold a few.
That museum sounds like a great place to vist, maybe Mother n me will get there someday, when we hit the lottery.

I am so glad you all got a square meal last night, and thanks Flip for helping out there too! Filet and shrimp always make a good combo, or was it lobster and rib eye; I just know it was darn good.

Ya know I think it comes with getting older and wiser and making a lot of mistakes in the past and learning from them. The one thing that I do is spend a lot of time working it out in my head first, thinking it through. Then rehashing it again in my head, heck, sometimes I have an epiphany or an “ah hah” or the light bulb goes off and I realize that I should do it this way or that way. I also read up a lot on different techniques then apply them to what I am going to do to “get er done”.

Also, thanks for the prayers; we can always use them, even when not in a time of need! [angel]

I am looking to get me a meter for the layout, what kind of meter do you use? Also, will the meter tell me how many amps or volts an engine is pulling from the track?
To answer your question, the full size templates are printed from the 3rdPlanIt track planning software program. May people take their file and bring it to Kinko’s or Staples and run some sort of utility that allows them to print out the template on a plotter on 3’ wide paper and as long necessary. It costs about .30 to .50 cents per sq ft, many have reported $25.00 to $50.00 for the whole printout. I adjust the grid lines to print out every 6 inches and line up the 8 1/2 X 11 pages and tape them together, it is much cheaper that way, but I do have to spend some time lining up all the pages. I also like the ability to cut the pages and paste them together; I have already had to modify the exact position of one track because the corner of the benchwork is not finished yet. In the original plan the track was too close to the edge, so I just moved the templates over 3” and will just add extra straight track to make up for the gap. So in that respect the 8 1/2 X 11 pages allows for some flexibility that I like. The great thing about the template is that all the actual turnouts are accurately plotted along with all of the curved track radius. Once I make the stipple marks of the outline I can make the “cookie-cutter” cuts on the sub-roadbed then attach them to the risers/cleats. Then comes the cork and track.

We are going to the Pepsi America Sail event in Beaufort on Sunday to see the tall ships, then on Monday we are driving to Asheville and to visit the Biltmore Estate. Then on July 4th we drive home and I want to stop at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC. http://www.nctrans.org/ It is located in the old Southern Railroad Spencer shops, and they have a 37-bay Roundhouse that includes 25 locomotives, dozens of rail cars and other exhibit areas. I just hope the CFO and kids are willing to take the 20 mile detour on the way home.

I had a problem with the out side loop, so after Gary left I got out the meter and found it was shorted out. I tracked down a couple of wires that had gotton to touching. Once they were seperated and connected properly everything ran OK. It's nice when things are easy to fix. Luckly the problem wasn't under the part of the layout that is on top of the magazine cases.

Well I think that I'm going to head for bed. I spent 4 hours in the hot sun fixing a gate on the corral. Man that was a job. Re-hanging it was the worst part. The thing is very heavy and the only way to lift it is to use the front end loader. Then I had to block and shim and pry and shift. I finally got it hung.

Mrr today was finding out that Atlas still haven’t done a production run of their N Scale trucks with Accumate® couplers. May not until the Fall. I don’t want to have to buy Micro-Trains, as they are even more expensive. Maybe I can get some of the Atlas ones when I’m in Ontario next week.

Only if I parachute out of the plane. Seriously, thanks to both of you, but with only two nights in NYC, we're only touching the highlights there. No chance to stretch this trip out any either. Departure date is governed by some event we have to attend here, and the return date is set by our need to get back and repack to head to the national railfan and model railroad convention down here.

Might get back up to New England during the next couple of years though. We're gradually increasing the amount of traveling we do. [:D]

I'll have a root beer float and a cheeseburger with the works and since Ryan is buying maybe some onion rings as well.
Good progress at work today, just waiting for the BAX guy to show up and pick up an engine we're sending for rebuild near Chicago.

Ed - If you have time stop by Danbury - it's sort of on the way for you. The rail museum would be of interest and we'd be delighted to show you the shop here as well if you're interested. land line is 203 778 8441 for the shop.
I'll be in Pittsburgh the weekend of July 14th my second chance to get out in my own car this year at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. The course is set in Schenley Park and it's a challange with almost two dozen turns, fences, hay bales, telephone poles, stone walls and a bridge.
Once I leave here for the day I'll try to get some done on the layout, probably need to do a clean up before I proceed further as I've got a bunch of mock up stuff all over everywhere. Still haven't sorted out the new Railimages, maybe tomorrow. Time to flee. CUL, [:D] J.R.

Take a look at this, it happened yesterday on our gateway bridge, it had traffic backed up for 40km


as all the Toll Boothes were closed so no one could get through... it re-opened at 5:15Pm about 4 1/2 hours after it happened, luckily the driver got out and the commuters around it...
