QUOTE: Jim:
Soup sounds good right now, just don't have any. Not wanting to go out in the cold to buy some either, so not sure what supper will be.

You can make it easily enough with whatever you have in the fridge. Just chuck some veggies in water with whatever spices come to hand, add a boullion cube if you have one, throw in some left over cooked meat (or brown up something in a frying pan, then throw it in). Let it slow boil long enough to cook the veggies and whatever meat you threw in.

Do you have a slow cooker? Not for tonight, takes too long. But it's great for throwing stuff in when you go to work, and coming home to a hot meal ready to eat.

Drink plenty of OJ. You need the vitamin C.

Regards

Ed

If I wasn'r diabetic and lived in your house I'd be eating those oranges all day long. To me their is nothing better then fresh oranges.

At one time we had thirteen hens and two roosters, my sons idea of fresh eggs for breakfast were warm eggs from the hen house.

QUOTE: fec153 I'm now 13 as of Nov 28 2003. Is it Brontasaurus or Brachiosarus?Mitchell

When Flip and I were in school Mitchel it was Brontasaurus. In the intervening aeons the nomenclature has morphed to Braciosarus. In the same way, the image of slow and lumbering cold blooded has changed to fast, nimble and warmblooded. Similarly what mammals there were back then were believed to be mouse to chipmunk (sorry don't know an equivalent sized Aussie critter) sized, preyed on by the dinasaurs. Now, last week we get the publication of a platipus sized predatory mammal that had eaten a baby dinasaur. So it goes!
QUOTE: der5997 you have been chosen for a free painting job, do you accept?
Who wouldn't! Have a go at Maritime Trunk (MT) I haven't had time to think about what that might look like, so your input may get the creative juices flowing. Thanks, very kind of you.

Now I've read a few pages on, I understand that what I wrote in reply to this was based on weight, not blood sugars. However, I'll leave it in here as the congrats are still valid, 350-370 was way too high! Here's what I wrote first off.....It always amazes me when people report losing more wieght than I've ever had! 132 more or less ever since school. Downside is you get ignored a lot. Seriously though Tim, Congratulations [yeah] that's a real accomplishment.

I'll email you the how-to's if no-one has put that in by the time I get to the end of the last page. Trouble is, pages get added so fast around here I'm losing ground while answering threads!

QUOTE: The lighting is another matter, I favor 2x2 boxes that can drop into the suspended ceiling grids, and use florescent bulbs. There are dimmers now for florescent lights, so I can control the lighting effects, and florescents last longer and are much better on the electrical use that incandescents. Any thoughts on this guys ??
So long as you're happy with the difference in quality of light in photos between incandescent and flourescent. I've gone with the flourescent, but have to remember to have flourescent around when painting things that will end up on the layout if I want them to look the same. (I've put flourescent in the spray booth to assist in that, but things that are painted elsewhere may look a little differrent than expected. Flourescent is cheeper to run.

QUOTE: Bear with me guys. I'm new at this stuff, and I don't know how to use the smileys and all that jazz.
Enjoy your first cuppa, and have a look at the Qucik Reply box at the end of the page. To the left of the message window are two blue * with text *Show Forum Code and *Show Smilie List
Click on Show Smilie List will bring up all the Smilies. Clicking on any one will put it inot your message. BUT IT WILL BE AT THE END OF WHAT YOU HAVE WRITTEN, NOT WHERE YOUR CURSOR MAY BE. So you have to cut and paste the smilie where you want it. If you click on "Reply to Topic" at the top right of the Quick Reply box you get a whole different message window, and the smilies should go just where your cursor is in that one.
Clicking on Show Forum Code gives you a look at how quotes are done, and bolding, and stuff like that. Basically you put an open and close code before and after the thing you are trying to do. You can check if you got it right by clicking on Preview Reply before you send the message.

I just asked at our library if they would start carrying MR. She said she'd put it on the list. While I was still in the library, a kid came in and started talking about the train set he'd had for Christmas! So. you never know.....[8D] Our LHS is about 2 hours away[V]

I see that we have a goodly selection of the usual suspects in the shop right now, so I'll fire this off, having got up to date.

Good evening everyone had a wonderfull day bonding with my father in law we didn't spend too much and managed to make a fair bit of money for the museum so all in all a good day.[8D] thank you ed and everyone else for the museum sights some I knew of some I didn't. it is always nice to see what projects and what cars are operational at the other similar museums ours is only one of two in our field in Canada but it is amazing how much and how often we corespond with each other and even trade equipment and spare parts. BTW www.hcry.org is our museums sight hope everyone could check it out we are very proud of what we've accomplished over our first 50 years. Please note that we are a 100% volenteer org with no govt. money which makes it that much more amazing. Anyone who comes to my neck of the woods ley me know if you wi***o see the museum I'll try to meet you there and give you the personal tour, I may even operate one of the cars for you(hope your medical is paid up)lol[:D][swg][swg] [swg] *** I'm glad your mending not to worry though I'll sit with you Heather's had a coldus horribilus[xx(][xx(][:P] for weeks but I've avoided it through massive doses of the big 'C' any how I'm going back to fini***he two pages I've missed and I was here a couple of times yesterday[:O] BTW John didn't Elliot introduce you to Zoe[:D][:O] the new serving intern[?] Also Ed sorry 'bout the pot I thought it was unused so I made my noxious wethering compound but as you can tell it has improved ***'s cold![swg] TTFN Rob

Wow, you guys just gave me 2 hours of catching up. Glad I get paid for this!
Now lets see how many I forget- ED- You are so right, miss more than one day and you pay for it big time. Have a stiff neck from reading all of the posts! Well, actually, it could be from pulling a muscle cleaning up tree limbs on Thur. Can't blame you guys, and all of the pages had good stuff on them! Black Adder is great, lets face it, Britcoms are usually funnier than what we come up with, which is usually an Americanized version of a Britcom. LOTSWine, As Time Goes By, R-U-Being Served, Vicar of Dibley, all pretty good. BTW, I'll send down one of my HO flats, you stack 20-30 of your cute little tanks on it with OJ, we'll just cut back on shipping costs![:D][:P][:D]
GDRMCo- That Shop Workers Gone Wild- Isn't that the one they use to pick up chicks with on the info-mercials? I think I saw Snoop-dog hanging out with it!
Tom- Tell Bill we said hi, hope his business ventures are going well. Also, thanks for the good wishes on our power, thought we were going to loose it again due to high winds, but it just flickered alot.
Fergie and JPowell- You could just send a bunch of cars at one time, and keep them in staging until you need them, that would ameliorate the cost.
TW100- 45 days?!?!? Makes 7 days seem like a blessing! You guys get that raw weather, by the time it gets to us, it's usually diluted down enough to just cause inconvienience, and a few deaths every now and again. Oh well, it's the weather, whatchagonnadooo?
Robert and Turbo- Whenever I read your posts, all I see is "Paul is dead, Paul is dead". (You guys are probably too young to 'member that kind of stuff. But, it looks like he's making an appearence at the Super Bowl, so again, the rumors are just that)
[#welcome]brclem wt259 and dcztrainz. Glad to have you on board!
Paul- Our best coffee shop is called-get ready to be knocked out by originality- The Corner Cafe in Portland. Great joe and really good breaded tenderloins. I still NEED to return to the Starbucks in Key West, tho, to...well just to get out of this stinkin' weather!
Pennsyhoos and lupo- Sitting outside in Jan, watching the trains in Spain- don't they run mainly on the plains?-no, no, I'm not jealous. Not at all. Hey, Lawrence, just give me your address and I'll run up and check on your house, maybe open a few windows to let in this fine Indiana weather! [banghead][banghead][:D] And lupo...well, ok, coming all the way to your place is just crazeeee!
And again, Ed and Jim- Amy is a keeper, she seems to really enjoy my love of trains, and she thinks it's neat that her dad and I can talk about 'em. Twoo wuv, twoo wuv!
Remember, spring, with it's torrential rains and tornados, is only a few months away!

Evening all, or good morning to you on the east side.

Mitchell, if you keep eating all that deep fried, your gonna weigh 350 and have a 350 blood sugar. Have a smoothie with the deep friend. Deep fried bananas foster, smoothie style. Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm

EG keep sending them oranges, they are good. Love the slices, but my favorite way is take a straw, stick it in till you can't suck no more.

Paul watch them branches, and did you get the tractor fixed yet ?

Morning all.
Tim- I haven't done that in years. They used to sell a short orange colored plastic straw with teeth you would screw into an orange and then drink the juice as you squeezed it.
You keyed an old memory.

Good Mornin' Everybody,
It's a cold, clear morning in the mountains. We were down to about 12 when I got up to get the coffee going. It's going to be a beautiful day, but cold. We won't get out of the 30's this afternoon.

Today is going to be a club railroad day. A bunch of us are going to get together in Copper Hill and work on the club modules. With a little luck, we should get something running this afternoon. It will be fun. Since Copper Hill was L&N territory, I think I'll take along a pair of L&N GP7's and a caboose. That's a mighty short train, but it's a train.

A belated welcome to all the new folks in the coffee shop. Have some coffee or tea and enjoy.

Lupo, welcome back! I hope the vacation went well and was very relaxing.

Grayfox 1119, one thing to consider for lighting is daylight corrected flourescents. There are now lots of brands available. I've been using Ott Light tubes for quite a while and really like them. They cost more than standard tubes but they last a long, long time and the difference is tremendous.

I'd better cut this one short and gather up the stuff I need to take to Copper Hill.
Have a great day everybody,
Tom

Good Morning All or maybe I should Re-phrase this
Morning, send your snow removal gear and strong backs!

We (Der, Luc and Me) got our foot+ of white stuff through the night so once I'm clear here I'm going to the basement to hide and play trains!

I'm glad this came after the camp and not during. Camp was good but cool

0C = cold = 32f =lots of clothing and a warm fire. The main thing is, the kids had fun.
Thank you all for the belated [bday] wishes but if truth be known "I don't wanna grow up!" so I'm now on my third child hood.

I was on the phone to Trainworld yesterday looking for a Birthday gift (approved and financed by the CFO and the other MESS financeer Mr. Dod (Dear Old Dad) so it looks like I'll be getting the BLI Union Pacific 4-8-2 in grey. I might see it before spring.

Anyway Gotta go

Fergie

PS Phil: as to your question on page 234 I don't kiss and tell, besides I've been happily berthed for 16 years and haven't passed any other ships in the night and hope to keep it that way, as a collision at sea will ruin your day.

My youth is another story![;)]

Good morning all.

To assist in temp C to temp F conversion, here is a little table had done for CFO.

Temp C Temp F
40 = 104
35 = 95
30 = 86
25 = 77
20 = 68
15 = 59
10 = 50
5 = 41
0 = 32
-5 = 23
-10 = 14
-15 = 5
-20 = -4
-25 = -13
-30 = -22
-35 = -31
-40 = -40

I hope this helps a little bit.

Back later

Good morning all [^]

The sun is out but seems to have lost some of its heat. [:(] Here in Central Arkansas the temp is 25, Dallas has 31, Oklahoma City has 19, Houston 40, and New Orleans 36. I bet those in New Orleans are wondering what the heck has happened. I think we were down in the teens last night but not sure. I kept the washing maching, or dishwasher running most of the night to help keep the water pipes from freezing. Our high today is going to be 38 and way back down into the icebox tonight. The good thing is NO SNOW and NO ICE.

Other than the weather there is nothing much to report.

Mitchell [:p]

I have not found the issue you wanted as yet. I did find a lot of old aircraft magazine, WWII mags, and tons of Trains and Classic Trains but just not the issue you want. I will try as time permits and maybe in a few days I might find it.

Well guys, it has been a while since I have had a sore throat and (re)found out that coffee and a sore throat don't seem to go well together. [V] I have been eating some small oranges and small apples I bought but nothing is helping so far. [:(]

OK, well take care all. (Keep the snow up north) [;)] If Australia has some nice warm weather, Mitchell you can get some of it this way. [;)]

Have a Good Day, Mates. [:D]

Edit starts here [B)]

Well I forgot, I do have some news. I just kept forgetting it so it didn't get to you all.

Up in Missouri the parents are neighbors to some friends who will be riding their horses in the inauguration parade later this week. They are from Bois D' Arc, but belong to the saddle club at Willard, Missouri. Not too often you actually know someone who marches or rides in a big event such as that or the Thanksgivings/Christmas parades. Dad said they have to shoe the horses with special "street" shoes. Since we had cattle dad would never let us have horses even though my little sister wanted one badly. But if you see group of people riding horses in the parade that could be them. There are probally several groups of horse rides though but this group will be from Willard, Missouri.

Morning all. Well it's 11:02am, jusat got up about an hour ago and I'm sitting here having coffee and checking out whats been going on lately, Seems like a good crowd, is using the coffee shop. I don't get here much through the week anymore, because I'm so late getting home but I'll pop in from time to time. Good coffee this morning, who made it? Well, it's finally Winter in South Florida, as in temps that don't feel like mid-summer, hate that, Winter should be Winter where ever you are, spare the snow please, shoveled enough of that when I was younger. Has everyone seen the new trucks from Mini Metals, FANTASTIC!!!!!!!. I sent an e-mail to them yesterday to see if NYC was in the offing soon and asked about the possibility of city and x-country buses, as in Trailways and Greyhound. I'll let you what they say when they answer back. Gotta go check out a couple of other sites but as Arnold S. would say "I'll be back"...

Good morning all.

The Gloetown Inn is almost done. The Lodger family will be busy over the next few mths setting up the rooms and lobby and off course what's an Inn without a thirst quenching area.... I should be able to complete it today.

As Fergie mentioned, we had some S--- but looks like it was not as much as predicted however the winds have come up and we now have a wee blizzard in the making. Good thing I'm off today. I'm playing nurse for the CFO and doing some chores around the place. BTW I've relayed all your comments to her and she is very appreciative. Thanks a bunch.

Mitchell - You are amazing, great talents. Keep up the good work. [tup][tup]

John - I've emailed you the info you wanted.

[#welcome][#welcome] wt and dcztrainz. Drop in often.

Lupo - wecome back, glad you had a great vacation with your son. [:)][:)]

*** and Jim - Headcold? Sore Throat? Try this... A bit of honey, some warm water, a couple of oz of amber rum, repeat, about 2 hrs later repeat, about 1 wepweat hour more and hit me again...... [(-D][(-D][(-D] seriously, rest, plenty of water and vitamin C. Hope you both feel better soon.

Fergie - Glad you had a great weekend but is it really scouting when you stay in a hut???
[(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]

ed - CFO gets really "cranky" during those episode and all I can do is wait. I wish I could trade with her sometimes.

Robert - The VB must be doing well, did it finance the new 'puter? [(-D][(-D][(-D] How's you dad?

Must go for now.

Emerald isle I had seen the new mini-metals at our local trainshow on Sunday as well they do look great I missed out on the A&P truck though it was going to be a gag gift for my father-in-law he worked for the Ache and Pain for 40 years!!!!!! I had thought there was a company out of buffalo that was making plastic GM city buses in HO I haven't seen any MR adds for them lately though so I'm not sure if their still around or not. Besides I'm a trolley fan so "BUS" is basically a four letter word[censored][swg][swg][swg][swg][swg] well I'm signing off now for sure as me and the[censored] aching finger need to get back down into the train room. It's amazing how working on the layout makes all your aches and pains go away(ok for a little while anyway) Then you start the wiring and your back and neck give you a new meaning to the word pain[:D][swg][swg][8D] TTFN Rob

Hey Zoe! One large hot chocolate please, sugar free, and hold the marshmallows. While that's coming, let me log on as a very unhappy camper[V][V][V] Spent a long and uncomfortable time yesterday afternoon getting the snowblower to fire up and run right. That's knowing the storm we were going to get was on it's way, and I wanted to be able to clear, as Fergie puts it, quickly today. So, we get the heaviest fall of snow we've had yet this winter.
I don all the necessary kit to blow snow and keep a little dry. Does the SB start? Does it even fire? [banghead]
With Kris at part of the driveway near the house, and me working my way to the garage and back, we have hand cleared 3/4 of it. Trouble is, with all that gear on, I got soaked from the inside out[tdn], all except my feet, which as usual, froze.[xx(]
What remains will be done out to the road, together with the pile at the end that highways' snowplow put there after we came in, after dinner. It will be good exercise I suppose, and will have do do instead of a walk. Rosie-the-dog loses out in all of this, and was watching our exertions with expectation for a while. Then she got bored and went back into her house.
I really loathe and despise small gas engines. I wish we didn't need so many to run this place.[sigh]
(had to put the "gas" in there, or some one would be bound to make a remark about N Scale [(-D])

Hope your day is going better than ours, and that you even get some modelling done!

QUOTE: John - I've emailed you the info you wanted.
Didn't come in yet (3:30 p.m.) If it hasn't by this evening, I'll email you something to which you can reply, and maybe that will work. I've got Mailwasher, and it's supposed to show all the posts and let me decide which ones to let through, but I think sometimes it just dumps stuff anyway. I do know that I get bumped off the Yahoogroups ndcc list frequently because messages from there have been bounced, and yet I have not bounced them.

Good thought, only problem is the brandy would be like the sugar in regular HC, or the marshmallows, come to that. That's the boring thing about diabetes, and cheating doesn't do one any good at all [V][xx(]
BTW, since when was the hooch put under lock and key? [%-)]

You guys with diabetes PLEASE don't go off your diets. I transport many people to dialysis and it ain't no fun for them. Too many are amputees.

Luct- Thanks for the scorecard. We're about 10c now and going down to near 3c tonight and when I go to work in the a.m.

Fergie- Very nicely put. Nautical and not naughty.[^].

Hi all - arrived back in Spokane in the wee hours of the morning on the only-slightly-delayed westbound Empire Builder after 2 good days of skiing. Yes, Ed it was at Big Mountain - the mountain and the town of Whitefish combine to make my favorite spot in the world. I'm definitely going to have to find a way to retire there!

First day was clear as can be, could see the peaks of Glacier Park and the entire Flathead Valley. The second day (yesterday) was snowing so there was always fresh stuff to ski through. Lots of great skiing (with one epic crash worthy of the "Wide World of Sports" - a few tender spots this morning but nothing serious, just funny stories for the lodge) and relaxing train ride on both ends. Oh, if you ever find yourself in Whitefish waiting on a train, might I recommend the Great Northern Bar and Grill for good food and drink.

Today I'm semi-stranded in Spokane - was supposed to drive the rest of the way to Puget Sound (when we made the reservations on the train, there were no tickets available for Everett, my normal stop). But the interstate that goes across Washington is a big icy mess and the mountain pass is supposedly a hockey rink. So, with plenty of vacation days on the books and nothing pressing to get back to at work, I called the boss and let him know it will be another day. I'm at my parets' house, so as far as "strandings" go it's not bad at all!
