Good afternoon folks: Snow blower still not working, received wisdom is gunk in the carburetor. So the fix would be to take it off and clean it out, right? I get everything unbolted and unscrewed, even wrestled the throttle link wire out of its mounting plate. Removed the clip on the fuel pipe, having got a plug ready as there is no shut off valve as shown in the manual[:O]. Now, the fuel pipe should just ease of the intake.....think again.[B)][}:)] It's stuck on there like it was welded. It's way too cold to hang about, and gas from a secondary feed line has soaked my gloves. Put the secondary back on and cover everything up against the weather. We are to town tomorrow, and won't be able to do a thing about this until Thursday. It's meant to be warmer then anyway, but 80% probability of more snow. May be the fuel pipe will come free when it's warmer. Maybe a passing flight of pigs will fix it in the night [(-D] This is not fun.
On top of that, the snow bank by the mail box that we dug out last night still isn't dug out enough for the mail lady to get her car in. So, that's got to be fixed before we leave tomorrow morning. My Tuesday evening meeting in the Harbour is cancelled for today. I guess I'll be carving away at the snow bank after dinner. [sigh]

JP, I assume you mention the line the WSOR is buying from CN, and another track that the WSOR is buying from UP branching off that line. It’s been in the works for months, because CN originally applied to abandon the line, then the WSOR applied to buy it, so the STB approved the sale, and now they’ve finally got it wrapped up. Actually, the WSOR isn’t buy much of it, most of it is bought by the state of Wisconsin, and the WSOR has a 99 year lease from the mid nineties to operate all state owned lines, and they in turn maintain them. But your right, I am happy, as the “empire” grows again!

Well, I got stuff to look at for parts for a project, and school work to do, so I’ll say so long for now.

I haven't posted in a while. I've been sort of tide up with Christmas and New Years, and then back to school stuff, and now my girlfriend and I have broken up, so...

Well anyways, on a different note. Still no layout, I need to clean a bit, then go to Home Depot and get some plywood, and decide on a track plan. Don't know when I'll start, hopefully within this year.

BigBoy, you're right about Minnesota being the Freeze King of the U.S. (or is that the Freeze Queen?). I saw the news this a.m. about Embarass, MN's dubious distinction (temp-wise). Made me appreciate our local temps today (the sun was out and we warmed up to somewhere in the high 20's or low 30's, and tomorrow we may get to the 40's). Mitchell, can you load some boxcars with some nice hot sand and ship 'em up to our Canadian CClubbers area? We may have some cold temps (for us), but they've been having brutal temps plus sNoah...[;)]

I've decided ("yeah, yeah - again, Jim?") [}:)][;)] on a switching layout plan - from Iain Rice's book that I mentioned a bit back for Mitchell to try to look at. But the layout's only about 18 inches wide ( a bit less than 46 cm.). I'm wanting wider so I can put some full structures on it instead of flats, so I'll probably make it about 2 feet (slightly less than 61 cm.) so I can add some more industries and an enginehouse. I'll re-draw it and post what I get (so as not to blatantly violate copyright laws). [tup]

If some of our club members don't get healthier soon, we may have to have them add a nurse to the staff here at the Coffee Club! [;)] But hopefully with all the remedies here, the colds/sore throats/flu/whatever will be gone in short order...[:)]

Time for dinner, so I'll be heading out now. Hope everyone gets a chance to get some work in on their layouts tonight.

The Gloetown Inn is now complete except for the interior decorating, that will come in time. The next project is Mr. M. Orbid's Funeral Home.

I found this gem on lessons learned from Noah and the Ark;

1. Don't miss the boat.
2. Try to remember that we're all in the same boat.
3. Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark, you know.
4. Stay fit. When you're 600 years old, someone might ask you to do something REALLY big.
5. Don't listen to critics, just get on with what has to be done.
6. Build your future on high ground.
7. For safety's sake, travel in pairs.
8. Two heads are better than one.
9. Speed isn't always an advantage; after all, the snails were on board with the cheetahs.
10. When you're stressed, try floating awhile.
11. Remember that the ark was built by amateurs; it was the Titanic that was built by professionals.
12. Remember that woodpeckers inside are a larger threat than storms outside.

OK you caught me! I'm allowed only one[:(] And unless I wake up tomorrow morning and change my mind, again, I'll be getting the 2-10-4, though the little guy on my right shoulder is saying "this is a mistake" but the guy on the left (with the sharp fork) is saying "go for it". We'll wait and see who's the smarter. Though that Athearn Challenger looks sweet but some say the sound is not as good as BLI.

I woke up this mornin and guess what. Yep another quandry and noe final decision. I'm now revisiting the Challenger. So the feelers are still out there there and I'm reviewing old reviews. What can I say is; I don't want to get get stuck with something that won't run!

Speeking of which. The replacement part came in for the Conslidation, which consolidation I not sure. So I'll be on the horn tomorrow to Bachamann to see why they sent me the wrong set of drivers. Now I'm starting to get a tad frustrated as nothing is going right as of late. Though I did get about 5 feet of cliff and hillside put in place so not all is lost.

Another beautiful day in paradise......., and it wasn’t bad here either. Cool in the morning when we walked the dogs, sun came out and it climbed up into the mid-70’s in the afternoon, [8D] then clouded over and starting to cool off again now. “Cool” is a relative term. In this case it means it will probably get down under 60º. [:)]

I know this show of support on behalf of our northern brethren is helping them a lot. Just listen to how Elliot is able to keep a stiff upper lip, despite the conditions in Minnesota. I had to paraphrase his words a bit, he gets a bit long winded.

Good evenin' everybody,
It's been a good couple of days in the mountains. The weather has been beautiful. It's been clear and cold, at least cold for here. I will freely admit that we can't hold a candle to Minnesota, the Northeast or Canada when it comes to serious cold, but it has been right chilly here lately.

We got the club's Horribly Oversized modular layout up and running yesterday. We got the modules connected, the wiring hooked up and the Loconet cables run. Fired it up and everything worked. Since it's currently in Copper Hill, TN. which is L&N country, first up was a pair of Soundtraxx equipped black and cream L&N GP7's. they looked and sounded good. We got a lot done and everybody had a good time.

Today, however was a work day in the downstairs bathroom. It's getting there. The color selection comittee is still in session, with no decision taken yet. That means that tomorrow will be a railroad day. I'll be working on trees. I've got about 25 supertrees ready to paint and then flock. Tomorrow will be more fun than today.

Fergie, Have you decided on the birthday gift yet.? I didn't post a response about the 2-10-4's minimum radius because I really don't know, but I'd bet it at least wouldn't look good on less than 24".

Emerald Isle, The new Mini Metals stuff is excellent. It would be great if they'd do some buses. Somebody used to advertise some in HO, but I haven't seen the ads in quite a while.

Luct, that is a really good recipe for hot toddies. If you have a cold, they are good for what ails you.

Noah, I hope you get rid of your cold soon. Chicken soup, a warm fire, and hot tea and honey is a good combination.

TurboOne, that is really cool that you've got both your kids working on the railroad with you. It doesn't get better than that.

I'd better go for now, there are a few things yet to be done tonight.

well, finally made it home after my one-day delay due to icy roads. Now it's January thaw time in WA evidently, as even over the pass it was above freezing. That means floods for lots of the rivers that feed into puget sound, fortunately I'm not in a flood prone area (though my backyard looked a little marshy when I got home).

Got the normal litany of stuff to do upon getting home, to include laundry, bills and the like, so I'm off to tend to all that but wanted to drop by to say hi!

Yo Scott, good to see you drop by again. Pity about the gf, but these things happen. In fact several times usually before you "know" who's a keeper. Feels rotten however just about every time. BTW Luc's #13 is worth thinking about in this and many other situations. I find remembering at the time it the hardest thing.

Ed: Interesting item on Discovery Channel's Daily Planet. Orange Peel has been found to be a source of material that when mixed with Carbon Dioxide in the presence of a catalyst, produces.....Plastic! Ta Dah! This could give a whole new boost to the Orange Industry, use up unwanted CO2, save valuable fuel oil, etc., etc.
Don't grub up the in law's orange grove, OJ and Plastic, the only fruit to produce its own moldable packaging.
(Bananas produce their own packaging, but that's mouldable!) [:D]

Hi all you coffee clubbers hiped up on caffine. I have some news for all of you (Its freelanced and a bit off topic). GDRMB HPV has been renamed Omega Performance Vehicles.. The latest car from OPV is the Omega Viper GT10, an upgraded Super Omega GT-Viper with a new aluminium-titainium V10 dual super charged engine rated at 850-bhp. The new car looks like the Ford GT but it is slightly larger and has a different nose. In other news GDRMCo has filed for bankruotcy seeing as though they have nothing to operate on or with.
Jim: The pckage still hasent turned up. Currently we are having thunderstorms (its the wet season) so no hot sand except the wet cold stuff.
Luct: Currently at work on a article for MR.

Good evening gents........stopped by for a hot chocolate and a little conversation, everyone either sick or gone to bed. Temp is now -4F and dropping steadily, man it is going to be a 3 dog night tonight!!!

Luc: no wonder Fergie got riled when I mentioned he was 59, he is doing real good to still be in the coastguard. He'll be Ok once everything is fixed and he decides which engine to buy.
BTW Luc, did you ever know an engineer by the name of Rudi Hood on CP?

John: you had better get that snowblower repaired in a hurry, I have been tracking the weather patterns, and it sure looks like a sizeable nor'easter will form off the Carolinas on Friday night or Saturday and move up the coast.
I had a similar problem with an old snowblower a few years ago, I finally took the carburator bowl off and found part of an acorn in there. A field mouse had made a nest in the engine cowl, but how that acorn got in to the bowl is a mystery. Ran like a hose once the carburator was cleaned out.

BB4005: We heard all about Embarass today on TV. But you must remember, the flat country of Canada just north of Minnesota offers no block to cold air sweeping down from the pole, so it is much easier to get cold air there in the winter, it is "expected".
I don't get too excited here in central Massachusetts unless the temp gets below -15F because my oil tank is outside, and that little 3/8" line feeding the furnace gets mighty cold. In fact, last January was the coldest on record here, and my line froze even with anti freeze in the tank!! I was outside with a hair dryer to get things going the morning that it hit -16F. Luckily the woodburner was going strong and the house was toasty warm.

Ed: the OJ tank car arrived safe and sound, tapped it today, man that OJ from Mexico is prime stuff!!! Thanks Ed !!!

Well, things went a little faster on the train room today, most of the insulation is up, so tomorrow I am off to HD for a load of sheetrock (plasterboard to some) for the walls. Borrowed the son-inlaws pickup for this one, those 4x8 sheets just don't fit too good in the Explorer.

The cold is better today, thanks to Ed's OJ tank car....ohhh BTW Ed, what was in that car before they filled it with OJ? Man it really tastes like JD!!

Time to turn in, hey , now down to -8F, that is a rate of fall of one degree per 20 minutes !!!

der- Sounds like you should take the gas, spread it on the snow and light it up! Might be the only way that SB will ever help you clear snow.
It was -6F this AM as i left work, the governor just announced that financially, the "wolf isn't at the door, he's in the cabin" so he proposed a "tempoary " income tax increase on people making over 100,000$ a year. Guess i missed that bullet by about 80,000$! Also, we are expecting 2-4 " of the white devil by tomorrow. Good news is it might get above freezing. Indiana just continues to be the BEST place to spend your time. Wait, that sounded like I have been sentenced to live here.... if so, I need to talk to my parole officer. Or get into the "Witless Relocation Program".
Ed- I'll have to look Tuxpan up in the atlas, I remember the pix of the area you posted (man, that was a long time ago) and it looks like you live in a great place. Amy and I have been talking about moving out to Colorful Colorado, I could stand some west right now. No warmer per se, but more to do in the winter. Mountains vs cornfields.
On all of your guys recomendation, i ordered 5 tank cars from First Hobby last night. Their website is pretty easy to use, tried to check out Train World's, but it had no pix of the cars and wasn't idiot friendly, so I went with FH. Told Amy it was my Valentines present from her. She says she wants to get me something anyway, so I'll mention the supertrees package. I know Tom in Ga uses them, how many other of you guys have tried them? The ads look fantastic, but i've yet to see any in real life. I still have a bushel basket of sagebrush I pulled up in New Mexico a few years back ,( along with an ant colony) so I've got the Oaks and Elms covered, but I need some variety.
Ferg- Maybe I missed something, but what made you decide to go with the UP instead of the C&O steamer? What bad did you hear about it?

This actually kept me up last night as I sat and went through two MR video reviews several times. I have to say the Challenger does look superb running down th line as does the J-1. The sound on the Challenger is "different" and the whistle does sound "clipped" but then again what does the real McCoy sound like. Everyone one who has responded to my questions on the T-1 seems to think anything less then 24" is not good. My narrowest is 22" but with a guard rail. No suspension system doesn't sound good either. I'm giving myself auntil Saturday to decide as I won't be seeing anything in the mail until March as I'll be going away in two weeks again just after I finish my course. Time off would be nice But... The Course goes good as we are getting into advanced care this week. Yes they will be teaching me how to do injections and suturing ans well as AED.

GreyFox: If I came across as being grumpy, I apologize. I hate Birthdays as they are a reality and being a January Baby is like being stuck behind the Caboose. If you must know I'm 43. On paper anyway!

My computer is still playing games with me. I made a post yesterday then shut down the computer. When I tried to restart my computer it told me that it was improperly shut down and automatically went into scandisk. Well I did shut it down correctly but once it started scandisk it went into the super, very, long version. It started scandisk about noon and continued until about 9 am this morning. I have learned the hard way to just let it run. If you try to stop it and reboot, it just starts the long version all over again. [:(!] [:(!] [:(!]

Trolley boy and Krump, Don't get the dell, it has shared memory issues. It shares most memory. What will happen if you run anything that need memory, like a game, lots of pics, or a DVD, you will start to slow down, or even just not run. Headache city. Go to your local computer store, find the smartest geek, and have him build one. Santa just did that, and for less than $600 US, I got a computer that will be good for a few years. No shared memory, except sound, and I can add if I want to. Speed to burn, and upgradable. New XP windows, all the bells and whistles. The difference is worth the few dollars. Could have bought it for under $530, excuse me, Santa could have, but added some bells and whistles. If I had skipped the colored lights and light up fans, probably would have been under $520.[:)]

No need to... I have a 'GEEK' in the office that'll do it for me for almost nothing since he's got about 5 cpus in his basement that he uses for building better systems for his buddies.

It is 18F degrees and snowing once again, but the wood stove ( Vermont Castings with a CC) is throwing out about 40KBTU's so the house is toasty warm.
The wife agreed to come to HD this morning to help me load/unload 17 sheets of 4x8 3/8" plasterboard. It comes in bundles of two, strip taped together, man that stuff is awkward and heavy, thank God for her help!!! And then there was the two 5 gallon buckets of redimix plaster, I nearly got a hernia lifting those on and off the cart and pickup truck[xx(][xx(][xx(]
By the time I got home and unloaded everything, it was after 3, so I decided that I had better not temp fate with my cold and all the cold medicine, and continue working. I will hit the train room with vigor tomorrow morning!

Fergie I never took you as grumpy, n o issue my friend, we both share the birthday issue, and January BD !!! The challenger sure looks nice, maybe the wife will buy me this for my BD next Wednesday.

Jim Sounds like you are running 98 Operating System Jim, I used to have that same problem whenever I did not shudown in the sequence that the OS wanted. I have a new Dell now ( Dimension 8400 ), and with Xp OS, it runs rings around the old 98 OS, no more crashes, shutdown problems, no more hanging programs. I have 516kb of RAM and 2 meg of video RAM, so I have not experienced any speed issues.
The answer is to make sure you have enough RAM if you are doing any work with video/photos, the more the better.
