Update on the earlier story,
Seems Beth seems seen and got to hold the baby, before the mother buiried it. Beth didn't know know anything bout the last part till after the the cops found it.  Word got out at school and the cops had to take her and her brothers home.
The news media is so bad thick round , the city had to post an officier  at the house.  Jamie n the kids are lock in a prison now. Hell of a thing to do to kids just for a story ain't.
So we're going up an get the kids n bring them here for a few days now, just so they can have some peace an quiet.
The mother was released, no charges, pending futher investgation, her kids are still in foster care till further investgation.

I'll try n catch up on the post laters.

Glad you like the yard. Snow is from WS. And, ya, I heard all the horror stories especially about the snow getting dirty. So, I wanted something I could vac up easily plus I wanted it to look real especially when it needs to be moved i.e., plowed, shovelled, etc. I considered different forms of 'powdered' plasters but didn't clean up well as the Woodland Scenic. And, yes, I'd use it again.

Dick is fine.

Dick,

Wow! Nice layout photos you got there, and thanks for sharing them with us here in the CS! And the snow job is great! Big Smile [:D]

What are you doing to create the smoke and steam emanating from the Allegheny?

Cheers,

Mornin again, another coffe Zoe,
No kids, they're mommy's off work today, that's the good part.
Now for a sad story. Heard from Jamie [#3 daughter] abit ago, She lives up by Springfield.
A women n 2 kids moved in a few day ago by her, anyway, the kids [5 n 8] came home from school yesterday to no mommy or baby sitter, and were just running round the block. Jamie brought them in for a snack after awhile, just to be nice. Finaily she call the cops bout dark.
The cop got there and was talking to the kids bout where their mom was, and they said , most likely the hospital from the new baby. Then the kids said that mommy had put the baby in a hole in the back yard, because it died.
The cop went looking an found some fresh turned dirt, and called in help. Turns out, the women was 5 months along n miscarried, then buried the baby in the yard, didn't tell anyone.
The kids are in foster care now, their mommy is under arrest for murder.
Don't know how any person could do such a thing, but in this day n age, it's not surprising anymore.

Sorry, just needed to get that off my chest.

Hey Pdragon ( do you like Pdragon, or Dick?), love the layout pic.  I've always been interested in doing a snow scene, and since I'm between layouts at the moment, this is a good time to ask a couple of questions of someone who'd know (that's you!).

What did you use for snow?

How do you like it, and would you use something different next time?

How easy is it to keep clean?

Or maybe better yet, would you not do it again because of some issue that you've come across?

The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of doing a snow setting on the next layout, but I've heard some real horror stories.  I know that there has to be a "right way" to do it, and so I'm wondering what your experience has been.

Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the welcome.

Luct - I'm originally from Mass, too. Sorting will take bit longer, huh?!

Inch - Probably would never have seen it there. The H-8 in the photo doesn't exist - see below.

Paul - I retired from the Air Force  in '84. I run a production studio that specializes in video production and 3D animation called Pen Dragon Productions - hence, my handle! The Allegheny in the photo is a 3d anim we've done for a job. My scale is HO and my railroad is freelance loosely based on the B&M called the Hahvid Yahd & White River RR. Not large (24' x 12') using Digitrax DCC. Below is a pic of my White River Junction yard.

Thanks for the coffee, gang.

Hi Dick!  Welcome to the Coffee Shop!  Great pic!

RT, I'm sorry to hear of the problems and complications.  It's always tough to see the ones you care about having tough times.  She sounds like she's well loved though, and that, I'm sure, means an awful lot to her.

I continue to remember you all in my prayers.  With so many on sick call lately it's good to know that the Great Healer hears prayer and answers it, though sometimes not in ways we would expect.

Morning all,

I think I will just have a good cup of coffee, Chloe. Thanks, Oh and put it on PAUL'S tab. I know he is short on cash because of all the coal cars his company just bought so I will go easy on him. LOL

Sign - Welcome [#welcome]DICK, to the CS. We always like to see new faces here. Be forwarned that the top of the page pays for the page that day. But go easy on PAUL, he's a little strapped for cash at this time.

LUCT, looks like Gloetown is growing. One thing about playing nurse is that it keeps you inside, which is a good excuse to work on the MRR. Tell Gloe our hearts and prayers are with you'll as she recovers.

RT, hang in there. Sounds like Edythe is starting on a journey that she will enjoy forever. Our prayers are with you and Edythe.

Well folks, MoM just told me it's time to go make progress of some chores.

Chloe, since Paul is buying I’ll have the lumberjack special please!

Got 2 inches of rain in a little over an hour yesterday, the creek behind the house filled up quickly and just about reached the bottom of the foot bridge. And it was windy too, the mail box door blew off and all the mail got wet. Got the October MR issue in the mail too, it is soaked, so I have paper towels sopping up the dampness, hopefully I will be able to read it soon.

Worked in the train room for a short while last night, put on the first coating of plaster scenery mixture onto the test section of cardboard and masking tape. I had so much of the mix left over that I made another quick cardboard basket weave and masking tape module and slapped on the rest of the plaster mixture. No photos of it yet, will try to take some tonight.

It is back to school time I see for some of the young gents in the CS, good luck at school. My son Ben is in the sixth grade and he is in a year round program, he started the first track in July and is now tracked out for three weeks, he goes back to school on September 10th. The year round program has them in six week sessions with a two to three week break in between each track.

Nice pics Duke!

Thanks Neal, we could use all the help we can get! Ben is quite nervous with all this weather alerts and storm warnings stuff again, especially at the one year anniversary of Katrina too!

Evening all -

Let me start by sending prayers to those of us in need. Angel [angel]

The weekend is almost upon us and for me, I have alot of tv to watch (sports - College Football!!!! and MLB), not to mention taking more pics (organized my MRR items so I could get photos of the equipment and structures) and getting an account on rail images for me to provide you links to view them.

CFO gave me approval this morning to purchase the special publication from Kalmbach - 'Locomotives' Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] Now I need to get her to let me get a subscription for Trains mag so I don't have to keep buying it at the stores when I see an interesting article. And also get the 2007 Walthers HO catalog and who knows whatelse.

Well all, I hope Flip and anyone else in Fla made it out ok. Looks like the Carolinas and the DelMarVa area is up next over the next 2 days. I hope the boats are at the door waiting for you all to jump in and leave

Take care!

I have to agree with Neal. My CFO feels a bit guilty when she goes out and spends $$$ and leaves me 'high and dry' cause I was not out shopping with them. But trust me, I do make up for it throughout the year with my various shopping sprees to the book stoes and my LHS.

Evening Gang:

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Pdragon. Have a cup of your choice and a piece of pie. Could you tell us a bit more about yourself? What scale, period, freelance or prototype? We're a noisey bunch here.

Thanks to all for thinking about my little tooth problem. It isn't much compared to what some of you all have been handling.

Luct: That yard looks good. Is it apart of Gloetown? I like the covered water tower. They really need that type up there, don't they.

The weather has turned cooler. It only hit 92 today. With the breeze it wasn't bad at all. I actually felt like getting out and working on the pad for the storage building. I got the trees trimed and cut out a bunch of brush and briars. The briars got the best of the battle judging from the scars on my arms. Censored [censored]

Opps. It looks like I am buying for everyone. Have at it gang and don't spare the horses.

Well I'm going to head for bed. Good Night All

While Gloe is resting I did a bit of work on the small yard to the south of Gloetown.

Here are some pics...

The section missing on the right is only 5 3/4". I’ll get that done tomorrow.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome]Dick, good to have you onboard.  Now we have another Dick in Mass.  We'll resolve this later...

Greetings all,

Haven't been around for the last couple days.

First let me say that I am sorry to hear of all the medical problems in the CS. But I am glad that all is fairing well. Our hearts and prayers to all in need.

Hang in there LISA, GOOD will prevail.

RYAN,  hope you are ready for ERNESTO, I hear he may have his sights set on your neck of the woods. Hope all goes well this year for you.

PAUL, our partners in life understands that we just have to have something to be able to survive one more day. They really like it when we go and make a purchase for ourselves. That gives them the excuse to purchase that item they want and not feel guilty for it. LOL

INCH, looks like the family had a great time. Great pictures. Looking forward to some more ICRR pictures.

TRENT, Hope everything goes well for Kelly. I am especially glad to hear that the Daughter might me comming home for the holidays. Our prayers are with you and yours.

PC, glad it only cost $2.00 to fix your water service. But just think of what a Plumber would have charged for the same repair.

Well I gues I had better get out of here I think I am running out of ink.

Der John, I will have to keep the idea of building a model of the layout in the back of my mind for the next time I go at a new layout. Seems like from what you’ve told me it can help one catch at least a few things anyway. It also looks cool too!

Thanks for the compliments on the study habits too. I try to do things right and get my priorities in order, at least most of the time.....

Well, I’ve been having fun lately (Not!) in the MRR department trying to get my turntable running for the module. For some reason the gears between the motor and the table aren’t meshing quite right, and so I’ve been trying to figure out why so I can get it working properly. Finally had to call in the big help too, and get my Dad to try and help me see if he can find the problem. We’re still working on it, but hopefully we’ll find a solution soon.

I better get going I guess, I’ve got way to many things to do today, and I slept in late so I’m behind schedule for the day. I hate waking up after 8:00am, as it usually puts me behind, and it seems like I end up wasting half the morning!

Closing in on 6th grade over here.Shock [:O]Angry [:(!]Sad [:(] I go back on tuesday, the 5th.
I am dreaming up some plots over here... But I don't know which I want to do.
I have $200, And need some buildings for downtown Cripple Creek, and trees.
Then my layout will be finished (in a way, I could always add more detail) But Trainworld
is selling the BLI Hudson for $130.  So I hope I could try to spend a little money on the buildings n trees, then go for the hudson.

I also have been dreaming up expansions for my layout. I have 9' by 12' (roughly) in which I can expand from my 4'x8'. It has two places that the track goes off the edge of the table. I was thinking of bringing in HOn3 thru the extension since Soundtraxx is making a K-27.

My other plot is to babysit or do yardwork for my grandma, to get some more money, then go for the Digitrax Zephyr and a decoder.

I will probably do the first one, then wait to chose between the other two till January...

MYUUHAHAHA!!

Well, we might be in for some heavy rains soon, looks like they are predicting Ernesto to make his way and strengthen as it approaches the cool front coming our way from the north. Can you say Perfect Storm?

Flip, hope you are all well and have the hatches battened down, but looks like you guys are fairing better than expected.

My right leg has been aching in pain the past few days, maybe I should not run on the treadmill at the Y and going 6 mph on a 6% incline might not be a good idea either!

Der John, a piece of blueberry pie sounds great! Hey, Chloe, how about a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of that too! OK, as long as we get some fresh mango delivered by Labor Day weekend we don’t care where it is now, just that it arrives.

Luct, great news on Gloria, and send her our wishes for a speedy recovery.

Trent, good news on your daughter, and prayers continue for you and the CFO too!

Paul, good luck today with the specialist! Chloe, remember the mashed potatoes and gravy?

Lisa, sorry about the windshield on the car, hopefully they will get caught soon.

Inch, looks like a nice family outing you had there. And nice kids too!

Cheers,

Ryan
