Flip Yup,you gave me your number and this old dog just learned something new again today, and that would be the 511 number. Know what you mean about the memory. Now what was I saying???? [:D][%-)] I really don’t like it when I want to do something and when I turn around I have forgotten what it was.

Duke: You get to turn around before you forget? Gee I wish I could remember that long.

I've got to get my son out tomorrow to help with that calf. The wound looks like we need to debrie some. The little thing is really hard to handle.

I watched " We Were Solders " last night. It really got the memories flowing again. Not that I need something to get them going. I had some problems maybe 15 years ago. That's where the modular layout came from. I started to do a couple of 2x4 units and just kept at it. It did help and I guess I put things in place to some extent.

I guess I'll head to bed. I've got to go to work again tomorrow of course.

Good evening folks, and I trust that those having Memorial Day as a holiday have had a peaceful observance. Been away to Town all day. It was hot by our standards. Have to get the A/C in the car fixed! I started this reply on May 27th. and 4 pages back from where we are now, so I’ve a bit of catch up to do. Some mrr time in the interim, mainly ballasting, which needs touch up to complete, but has certainly made a big difference.
JR: You’ll see I moved the access to the interlock tower.[tup]
Here’s from the viaduct towards the station. The colour values in the preview sure are different from the photo I saved! [%-)]

Mike:

Ryan:
QUOTE: I am also looking into the idea of “off site” action with running some box cars as thought they are through traffic coming from and going to off site industries. These box cars would show up in the classification yards and then leave again but would never really show up at any sidings.
…I have so few industries served by rail that your thought just about sums up my freight operation strategy![:D]

Jessica: Enjoy your trip, the traffic should have calmed down after the long weekend.[tup] Will you be getting to any LHSs?

NJBill:Just being there is probably the most important thing you can be doing,( after prayer for the family). People find it so hard to know what to say, so end up avoiding the person in grief. Your being there will help prevent that isolation.

QUOTE: John, where do you find rocks with enough texture/detail to make molds from?
…The secret is coal! The stuff I have has laid out in the weather for years, and some is quite friable, so crumbles a bit when the mold is removed. Big leaves in N! I may have to plant a strategic tree or two.[(-D] Some of the faces have viens in them. If those come out on the casting I'll paint them white for quartz.[8D]

Well, that didn’t take as long as I thought it might when I came in. I’ll have a banana and cherry yogurt smoothie please Cloë. Thanks Mike, and I’ll pass on those beans this time!

Evening all, barley pop dear,
Hope every one had a pleasant day, alright here other than hot. Haven’t done much of anything this evening, kinda just loft around.

Paul , Mother’s gotta nother cake to do for Sat. Sure hope you get the AC fixed. Didn’t need to translate.

Neal , I call my wife mother, cause we have 6 kids and to many grandkids. Know what you mean bout taking second fiddle to other things, seems like Mother always has some thing going on, selling jewelry, fair board, legion aux.

Der , more layout progress I see, looks good.

Gotta few more train pics to upload, but think I’ll get a shower n ready fur bed. I’d work some on the layout, but can’t get to it right now, boxes of trains laying round in the way. DIL wants to borrow some train for some doings she has at church. Suppose to have been here 2 days ago, I swear that girls late for every thing.
Thoughts n prayers for all in need.

Good Evening All,
I'll have a coconut ice bar please. nice change to the heat and humidity. Not complaining mind you, I remember a week ago I was freezing my buzutska off in West Virginia.
Since Inch is buying - I'll have a rootbeer float with that as well.
Got some cleaning done in the shop and some more at home in the train room. Even got some more done on the foam for the lower level. I am totally out of practice laying track so I may wait a bit until I can put more down.
Spent a couple of hours at the museum wiring the sound system for the coaches. We need to link four cars together so we ended up fishing wire through a coiled plastic airline then wiring plugs on the ends. The coil cords plug the cars together and sit under the diaphrams between the cars so they can give a bit on corners and as the couplers take up.
We seem to be developing a problem with our turntable as well as it jumps several times per rotation. Looks like one of the bearings is worn or going. Not like a car or truck to change or fix. All that stuff looks mucho heavy and pretty rustic besides.
Duke - a q-tip is one of the old boys who just barely sticks up above the top of the seat (usually of a huge full size sedan). It's a derogatory term for sure but much nicer than what your thoughts are when they pull out in front of your truck and trailer to go 20 miles an hour in a 50 zone. 27 down to Sebring is especially bad as it is 2 lanes and no limited access. I always stop and then put myself in patient mode before starting down that section. Always see one or two accidents each way each trip on 27. I guess people can be idiots anywhere and that's why I gave up riding a bike. In any event ,have a good trip but also have a care.
Derjohn - more good progress. I think the new access road is much more realistic away from the depot traffic. The interlocking tower is a real pill(box). The cuts to the tunnel should be the cats' meow.
Time to get some sleep - tomorrow is the start of another busy week. CUL,[:D] J.R.

Wow, the time's flying. I don't know how far back I left off, but I don't have time to catch up right now. I got graduated last week, here's a pic:

This is after graduation at the party at our house.

And with a little PhotoStudio doctoring I made up this thingamajig from prom pictures:

The theme was What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas.

Other than that, I've been mostly busy with harvest and hay and fence building and filling out college paper work and a few other things.

Dad and I have been looking for a picture of the Calumet train depot for longer than I can remember, and I finally found one. It's not a very good shot of the depot, but I'm pretty sure it's the only existing shot that even has a part of the depot in it. I'm not sure if you can see it after photobucket got through with it, but the door says "Colored Sitting Room" thought that was interesting. I thought we'd asked all the old people around if they had a pic, but I guess I'd missed one, because he was here looking at my layout the other day and saw a pic of the El Reno depot on the wall and says "I have a picture of the Calumet Depot around somewhere, you can have a copy if I find it." I got it today and it had a bunch of fly spots and a couple little 1/4" scratches, so I played with it in PhotoStudio and this is what I got.:

Well, I'm gonna go now, I got off the tractor at 3:30 this morning, and got up at 9:00 and then moved some tractors and equipment around and checked cattle, then I got the picture of the depot, and then hauled hay for another few hours, so I'm a bit on the tired side right now.

Good evening everyone, I hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day holiday, and most importantly took time to remember all those from every nation that made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom....may they rest in the arms of the Lord and know we thank them.

Well, we opened the pool today, a little later than normal, but with all the rain of the past weeks, that is no surprise. But, as it edged close to 90 here today (86F) , the temptation to dive in was great. By tomorrow, the water should be crystal clear.

No work on the great wall at son #2's house either, we did enough of that savage amusement on Friday and Saturday. Man, those 80# blocks are heavy, we will have to make steps with them soon to get the wall up over 5 feet. The TS's have placed a halt to the work on the east wall behind the house, the clay is too wet and soft to support a 6 foot wall of that weight, maybe by next weekend, but now the long range weather outlook is calling for Rain on Friday and into Saturday, and it "could" be heavy.

On the positive side, most of the veggie garden was planted today, but the Troybilt rototiller started to make some grinding noises in the tine housing, so I think it needs some 90 weight oil, I hope that is all it needs, I really need this machine WORKING well with a 5000sq ft garden in one area and another 4000 sq ft garden further north.

As for MRR action, I added the new cars and switching locomotive to the spreadsheet inventory program, always a good idea for insurance purposes, as well as a video.

Time for bed, prayers to all those in need, see you guys in the morning, I see Fergie will have the coffee ready according to Cloe, thanks Fergie,

bon soir mais amis,

Well Duke, I found out today that I will NOT be able to attend the train show. Work just schedule manditory training on me for that weekend. Somehow they are just trying to make me happy when I get forced out the door.

Hey guy's, good morning!

Just some coffee for me Chloe, thanks.

der,
Lookin' good! That thing is really taking shape! Keep posting the progress pics!

trainwreck,
Welcome to the "got graduated" crowd! Looks like you had fun at the prom too. So,......what's the plan now?

All,
Well, no doubt I'll be at the top of the page so I might as well have Chloe and Zoe get ready. Those girls seem to get extra busy when I'm buying.

Prayers for all those in need, and especially for the troops.

Good morning all!

Phil, I'll be gentle. Just coffee this morning.

I'm feeling better from my experience in New Orleans. Just an annoying cough now.

Mitch - Good luck on your business. The website looks good. Too bad it's just N scale. I just read the Smithsonian article on the new trans-ausie railway. It would be cool to have that on my layout. Although shipping would be a tad high.

Well off to the land of a thousand phone calls, hundreds of bills and hours of study. Later.

Der, you hit the spike right on. I was going to call my line "Bay Line' , not to be confused with "The Bay Line", and I was going to be the "Chief Operating Officer". However I decided to change to the "Cotton Belt Route". I haven't figured out how to change my handle. Yes Sir Duke did give me a handle on Tiffy's Law. But I like yours better.
I visited the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia in 1960 and found it to be a beautiful place.

Inch, Mom left at 7:00 A.M. today and said she would see me tonight. She has two meetings today. They are planning on a quilt to commerate the bond between the Marque de Lafayette of France and George Washington to defeat the British in the 1700's.
An elderly lady donated her home to the Town of Scott, LA. The house was built in the late 1700's. It has been moved to a park next to I-10 at Scott to be used as a tourest attraction.
The Marque de Lafayette quilt will be raffeled to raise monies for the remodeling of the old house.

Greg, I looked at the photo you posted of the Calumet Depot. Where was this Depot located I would assume that the depot with a sign on the door "Colored Waiting Room" is the Calumit near New Orleans. If it is let me know and I will see what I can find out for you.

Happy Railroading,
Neal

Hi gang,

Haven't had much time to visit here lately, though I had a nice phone chat with Paul on Sunday evening. Hope everyone had an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.

[#welcome] newcomers Neal and Alaska Pete.

This was a marathon 4-day weekend for me, with 3 of them focused on getting the remaining photos for my Philly presentation. Next weekend is my In-Laws' week in their oceanfront timeshare and they always expect Vicky and me and the kids to spend the weekend there with them. No trains and no internet, so I wanted to get all my photos shot so I can at least work on the PowerPoint thing on my laptop while I'm there.

derJohn - your layout is coming along quite nicely!

RT - That's a nice two-seater - I guess they always paint the 'sport' models red![;)]

CapeJim - I missed the part about the Barium procedure, must've been a few pages farther back. I do have memories of one that I had to endure myself though, and I can assure you they are NOT fond ones![:O]

Greg - Nice pix of your graduation and Prom! My 16yr-old daughter will be graduating next year.

Ryan - looks like you're well underway to making your layout a reality - good luck![tup]

. . .
Have to go now, hasta!

Hi Gang: Gee, PC is buying and I'm not feeling good enough to eat. I got up this morning and made it to work OK. On the drive in I felt like I was going to fall asleep at the wheel. I figured that once I got to work I'd get a couple of cups of coffee and tough it out. Any way I don't think that it would be very productive to fall asleep on the job so I'm going to go to the house and fall asleep.

Der: The layout is looking good. The road to the tower is much better in that location. I like the shot from the overpass. It gives a better perspective of the junction.

I'm out of here before I fall asleep at the keyboard.

See you all later.

Mornin all, coffee n a couple doughnuts Zoe, I’ll be nice to PC , since he was nice ta me this weekend.
Hot n humid, with a chance of afternoon storms again today. Got outside work, but first I had to repot some of mother’s flowers that were on the deck rail. Some animal knock them off, the only ones they got were in clay pops, left the others alone, strange.

Greg , congrads on your graduation from school. Also on the depot pic, I remember signs like that from when I was a kid, down ta my aunts in Alabama.
Sounds like your going to have a busy summer farming, just be careful out there. Every bodies back in the fields here trying to catch up from the cold wet weather.

Mitch , hope your venture goes well, I still need to check out the links later though.

Neal , it’s an easy week for us, I’ve got a legion meeting Thursday and Mother has a jewelry party Friday, and another some time before Saturday.

Here’s some pics from the campground I got this weekend

bout it fur now , need to get back to it

Going to another topic, I just wanted to ask, has anyone not recieved the June issue yet? I'm going to wait till I get the mail today, since there was none yesterday, until I call to inquire what's going on. I went online and it says the July issue was already sent.

Morning all,

I didn't get much done this weekend as I was helping the Mrs. fini***he garden.

However I did pull out a small section of my layout and rerouted it. Now I have a double main all the way around and all my mainline curves are 28" or greater. I can actually use working diaphrams on my pullman's now!

Yep, have to agree with everyone, the heat has been up there the past few days! The AC tries to keep up, but not until the evening does it start to cycle off some.

Hard to back to work today, the three day weekend sure was nice having that extra day off!

I added some more locos and rolling stock to the inventory. My total count comes to 130 records or items at this point. I know there are still some items that are boxed up, mostly stuff from the old train set from the 1970’s, Tyco locos and rolling stock. I am still debating if I will include those items into the inventory. Is there any value to those old Tyco items?

inch, That sure is a big cauldron of beans you got there! I bet they tasted really good too! Got any leftover beans for us to taste today?

So Duke, sounds like you are going to the NMRA show in July huh! Wish I could go to that one, the list of layouts on the tours is great, and all the workshops look good too!

John Wood, After taking my inventory I think that 90% of my box cars are going to end up as “off site” through freight traffic on the layout. And the progress on your layout keeps me motivated to begin my benchwork construction soon!

Congratulations Greg on the graduation! And the prom looked like a lot of fun too!

Ken, It’s just the beginning! And with friends like you to look up to, it makes it easier to strive for the layout building goal!

SpitFireV12RR, [#welcome] to the CS! And, yes, you are right! I do have some others from the old 1970’s layout, but most likely will not use them. I do need to obtain more cabooses, making a new “wish list" soon.

Cheers,

SS - At least 1 for each engine, right?

LOL guys...I have to tell you guys something. I was out getting the paper and there's a guy in a robe getting the paper too. Now #1, he looked like he escaped the looney bin and #2, we live in Florida...and it's been in the high 90s to low 100s!!! WTH could you use a robe for in sub-tropical degree weather? Like I said he looked like he got out of the looney bin...he says " Just getting the paper" and just to be funny, I said "Before the monsters do, right?"

Hi Gang,

Duke:
Thanks for the photo info. So far I haven't had a chance to look them up. The darn phones went out again this weekend!!!![censored][banghead] Maybe I'll have a chance later today.

Funny you should mention the"Willow Tree Restaurant" I took the Daughter in-law out for a birthday dinner. They were enjoying the food and drink so much that I was beginning to sweat bullits, hoping I had brought enough money. It turned out to be a $230.00 meal for the four of us. Oh well, I was melt in your mouth food. I enjoyed it. [bday][dinner] Kimmy! At times, she looks up the forum to see what the old man is talking about.

Hi again All,

Ryan
QUOTE: Bill North, I have not been 100% totally happy with any cellular phone company, and I have used Sprint, Nextel, Alltel, Verizon, and Cingular. They all suffer from the same issue, which is a lack of appropriate infrastructure, as cell towers are just not located in every square mile, even in major metropolitan areas.
The lack of towers is also the reason I'm stuck with dial up. They're few and far between in this part of the world. It sounds like "Verizon" isn't the only phone company with growing pains.

inch - yes I have, but I never really told anybody about myself. I'm Todd and I am from Florida. I'm 13, in 7th grade, and I am in the gifted and advanced classes that are offered...I play saxaphone and clarinet, saxaphone being my favorite(And tenor being my favorite sax). I've been involved with trains since I was a baby, where my grandpa who is really big into trains brainwashed me in the loving them. In my old, old house, I used to have a 4 x 8 with a 4 x 6 shape in an "L"(Looking like 1 4x8 on top of another). Most of the trains were my grandpa's, but I'm slowely starting to buy my own engines and transformers. I just went to a train club where I hopefully will join, since I have no layout at my new house, and get involved with DCC.

Thanks,
Spit
