I got the old Bachmann GE cab stripped and applied many of the details from the Atlas cab to it. I can see why those detailed models sell for so much. That was ALMOST like work. Went to paint it and discovered I'm out of white paint. I'll have to settle for gray. That means I'll have to repaint the deck sections and railings as well.

Looks like this page is on me. Enjoy!

Lee- Sounds like a rerun to me. I remember all too well "the past" then the screwed up "rush" to undo what they did. You'd think they'd learn. Oh well, looks good in the papers to many people.

Sign - Oops Not intended to be a political comment. Both sides do it. (whew!) It sounds like a lot but over time the life style and the area in which you live usually mimics the salary you recieve. And I'm not just talking eating out everynight and partying all weekend. Unless you are on AD pay, your area reflects what you get paid, so housing is comparativley high. AD pay, no mercy, 'cept, well, you know tis stuff. Buuuuttt... There are jobs and careers far less fortunate, so by no means am I complaining, no no. The DOD has been very good to me. And I'm sure you feel the same way. And I know EXACTLY what you mean by the hours! But hey, the overtime is good!!! ROFLMAO!!!!   (Ho wee, my head hurts.)

Galad- Sign - Welcome. Please do tell us a bit about yourself. Have something off the menu on me. Just beware if Barry, PC or Robby or... well almost anybody offers you some pie. Be specific on finding out HOW you'll recieve the delectible dessert. Laugh

Evenin'----

Got all kinds of sunshine today hence I now am sporting a bit of a tan---after all---when one spends a lot of time doing the deck planting and the flower planting--had more border plants to stuff in the back yardWhistling One will get somewhat tanned---heeheehee. Anyhooo-after we spent all that time doing the plantin' thing i was roped into doing the BBQ thing by some neighbours for our block so called party. More like a bunch of people just gabbing but what the hey-----Smile,Wink, & GrinMischief Had a lot of fun doin' that---hence my arrival now--.

I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to configure the extended part of the layout. I got some idea of actually putting in a limestone quarry as well as the potash processing mill/plain ol' fertilizer plant--which will take up a goodly amount of space---and no, I'm not thinking of the entire quarry operation!--more like Lance Mindheim's approach--edge of fascia being used to suggest such an operation---but who knows---Whistling

Jeff: The loke looks really plausible in style--I like what I see there---Thumbs Up

Sign - Welcome Galad!! ---just don't listen to PC when it comes to me and pie catapaults---he is a little shy when it comes to admitting these things are built by him after all-----and what era etc do you model?----

Robby: I've enough plants to stuff in this place as it is---and we are supposed to get more of them yet---sheeesh. And how big is your backyard?----70 plants---eeerrgh.

Chloe, I'll have a cheeseburger with an RBF please---and a SRP as well, no I'll take the pie with me thanks---Big Smile

Get home from work today and a package is waiting on the porch for me.  Apparently the odd size requirements of a single Walthers modular packet, a DPM kit, and some 24" styrene strip required me to also get approximately 10 cubic feet of packing peanuts.  I dont own luggage as big as this box.  Nevertheless, MB Klein was pretty speedy.  Usually I deal with Walthers or the local guys for orders, but they had the prices this time around.  Everyone always says good things about them, and it never hurts for one more voice I guess.

Penguins game on the TV, more or less beautiful weather if not cool, and a few projects moving ahead.  Great night tonight.

Good evening, Chloe - just a hot fudge sundae and a cup of decaf please, in a Rio Grande mug. Thanks!

Sign - Welcome to the Diner, Galad! And not to worry, even if you don't model ANY steam locos, the crew in here will be nice to you - it's just that (ahem..) some Diners are partial to Berkies or to articulated locos... Wink Have a cup of your favorite beverage on me - Chloe, put Galad's mug of whatever he's having on my tab, please, 'n' thanks!

Robby - you've been getting more reference materials for yourself with that camera, haven't you? Smile,Wink, & GrinThumbs Up

Todd, some nice photos on the Williamsville Route 66 page - I think I have another Route 66 website in my bookmarks somewhere, too. Yeah!! Didn't mean to give you a heart attack there, but you can't blame a guy for wanting more MRR layout space, right? Whistling

Jeff, that modified U-boat keeps looking better, the more you get done on it. Great job (and you have a great imagination, too)! Big Smile

So Barry - does all that planting mean that you are in the 'pink' of things there? Smile,Wink, & Grin Better put your SPF 50 on, just in case... some really bad sunburns I've seen have been on windy (but sunny) days. Oops

Well, Nittany Lion, at least now you don't have to worry about not having packing material if you need to mail something to a relative. Wink Guess Klein's wanted to make sure nothing got broken (or they ran out of the smaller boxes when you ordered?)...

Morgan - is that as in, the SP Daylight, perchance? Sounds like a cool railfanning deal; will school be out by that time when it comes?

PC, so do you feel much different now that you have graduated? Smarter? Craftier? EvilSmile,Wink, & Grin

At MRR club tonight one of the members had a new diesel (a newer one, beyond that I'm not sure, except that it was a transtion C&EI/MoPac version) with sound, which had a really nice sound to it. Also, one member was soldering feeders to a last part of the back staging yard (so we could park locos back there and turn them off if they have sound), another was test running a fairly long train of freight cars (43 of them, I think the total was). And another was working the RIP track as we found cars with various problems. Not lots going on - those who want to, will meet next Monday.

Got my book in today after work (the one by Dave Frary, John Olson, Malcolm Furlow and Paul Scoles) with the 100+ MRR'ing photos - pretty interesting, about also how they did the photos, so it'll be useful for getting certain types of lighting when my layout is further along and photo-worthy...

I'll be finishing up my hot fudge sundae and getting on the way soon. Prayers for those in need of healing or comfort, and those with doctor's appointments coming up (anyone got one of those this week?).

Blessings,

Good evening...

Phone company problems had our phone and internet service out of order for several hours.

I was just looking back and some of your posts, and was impressed with Mark's (Hoople). I think he's and example of the the quality of young guys here (He's not the only one at all). Did you see his willingness to work and save up for a car? I read that, and I think there is hope for the youth.

I see, the Sundown Locomotive Works has been busy with yet another interesting model. Good work, Jeff.

Todd, I recall some long car rides on US 66 before the interstate was built. We traveled between Chicago area where I grew up to St Louis where my Dad had grown up. We could have even stopped at that Standard gas station to fill up.

I'll have an RBL with SRP with FVIC on top, please.

When I went back to school I found after each course there were many more things on the subject I wanted to learn.  It seems to be exponential. I want to learn it all but I realized I must focus on only a few.  Yes I feel smarter (not as smart as PC), but realize how little I do know.

Good morning.

It's 55 and clear. The high today will be around 80 and it will be sunny.

I got the largest part of the work on the U30C done. I still have to scratch-build a set of air tanks and lines to mount on top between the radiator fans and the dynamic brake housing and the airlines front and rear have to be painted. Also I need a name for this beast. Everything I've come up with doesn't sound right. I got my car into the shop yesterday. Hopefully it'll be ready sometime today. That's got nearly all my stimulus payment spent right there. $75 went out to the previous owner of the two Atlas locos I've been working on. Yesterday I gave my father a helping hand even though he didn't ask for it. I already knew that he was coming in from a pretty mean work schedule and would be going back out on the road again after 5 or 6 hours so the last thing he would need was things that needed doing before he could get to the bed. So I went down and moved three stacks of chlorine drums from the pool area out to the road then collected the trash from trash cans in the house and moved it out to tyhe road as well so it can all be picked up today. It's not much but it gave him more time to rest.

Good morning, another chilly morning here with some frost.  Summer will be here soon I hope.  This weekend I’ll be volunteering with the local Auxiliary to do vessel safety checks and some “no penalty” exams on passenger vessels, but in the mean time I took the next 3 days off and will be working on the layout.  Tomorrow a guy new to the hobby will be stopping out to learn how to install decoders and he wanted to run my Digitrax system to see if he likes it.  Then we will head over to the Henn Mansion to check out the local train clubs progress. Last night I fought with the garbage disposal, replaced it with straight plumbing.  The drains in my old house are not compatible with the disposal.   Lee

Good morning folks.

Well, we had one of those days yesterday. My wife called to tell me that she will no longer be employed in two weeks. We knew her company was downsizing, but everyone thought she would make it through to the end. Apparently, the marketing manager's position was eliminated and was given the opportunity to take my wife's job. It's kind of comical because the idiots at the top are the ones who ruined the company in the first place. They were a company with 178 gas stations. Now they will be down to thirteen! Oh well, the job was killing her. I look forward to seeing what is in store for us in the future.

I have to go buy a car today. We had sold her car a few years ago when she received a company vehicle. We've been saving money for this very day. We had hoped that it would come on our own terms though. I guess nothing ever comes on your own terms.

Have a good day everyone.

Well another cool morning.  Its about 35 right now.

I guess I will go out today, and put some more job applications out.  Go try a few places.  See what happens I guess.

Corey....Sorry about that bad news.  I wonder what people are seeing when they say its "getting better".   I just don't see it.  I'm sure it will work out.  Wink

Barry....He have a normal size backyard.  It was 70+ flowers we have.  Buying pots, potting soil, etc.  I think she wants to put the extra plants on the graves.  I did go a few days later, and buy two "knock out" rose bushes for $2.00 each.  If we didn't have so many animals, we could probably have more plants.

Well everybody, I guess I better get ready to job hunt Blindfold.  I will try to stop in at lunch.

Morning' everbody. Coffee and a sweet roll please. Yup the ones Jerry always gets. Thanks. It's sunny and 55F on it's way up to a sunny 79F. Looks like it's a good day to be outside. Getting some of that Louzianner weather. Thumbs Up

A family friend of ours passed away yesterday from a battle with Leukemia. He was a few years behind me in school so that only makes him in his early forties. He left a wife, and two children. The daughter graduated high school through all of this. If you do, please put the Tucker family in your prayers for the comfort they need through this time. They are saddened , but yet gladdened that the pain and suffering are gone. They are wonderful people and they know he is in Gods house with family and waiting for them, it's just exceptionally tough on parents to loose a child. No matter the age.

Jeff- Let's see if I can get this right. Someone told me once yeeeeeaars ago, "It's the big things you get thanked for. But it's the small things that are appreciated the most." Something close to that.

Corey- Sorry about the wife's job.

And continued good luck in your search Robby.

Aaaand I guess you folks who feel they don't know everything don't have a superior intellect and the benefit a 6th grade education like I. As soon as I get my Super Genius decoder ring in the mail it will be official. I will be a bone-e-fide card carrying Super Gene......what was that click? Is there by any chance a red light on my forehead? I'll sit down and shut up now.

Have a Great Day!

All - Thanks for the welcome.

Jim - Thanks for the drink.

Corey - Sorry to hear about your wife losing her job.

Something similair happened to me a few months back. My new boss screwed up and lost half the account we both worked on, he lost his half of the account.  The division I worked with was going fine, heck the customer and I became friends and hung out occassionally.  The next day I find out my position has been eliminated and my boss is taking over the whole account.  He screwed it up and I lose my job.

Now I work for a place called Hobby Lobby as a manager making half of what i used too, BUT I enjoy it a lot more and now I work around trains.  This new job is what got me into the hobby, although I think I have always been a closest MRR enthusiast, I just never knew it.  There is always a bright side, I realized how much I hated my old job and how much stress it was causing me and I found something I enjoy a lot more.  I am sure things will work out for you and your wife, just hang in there.

I haven't started my layout yet as we are preparing to move, so my first step has been to find a house to rent that has enough room.  The good news is we found an old house that is twice as big as the apartment we are in now for about the same price.  This has allowed me to plan out my hobby which is a good thing instead of rushing in and buying a lot fo the wrong stuff Like I would normally do.

I am thinking of going with an era around the 1910's-1920's.  I am more interested in the begginnings of railroad history.  I amy go older but it seems there is not as much information out there the further you go back so I don't want to get too complicated to start off.

Until next time

Todd, I'm sorry to hear about your friend.  It makes my situation seem down right trivial.

Thanks for the well wishes guys.  We had an idea that this was coming, but not this soon.  We were hoping for her to get pregnant and then leave the job.  There is no way she could do that thankless job with a child.  This is her opportunity to do something different.  I just have to know that she will be making a lot less money if she decides to switch careers.  We had structured our expenses in a way that we could almost live on what I make.  We'll have enough money with my salary, there just won't be any money for extras.  Good thing I stocked up on train kits and supplies!  Actually, I knew it was coming so I bought enough stuff to last me for quite some time!Smile  Nobody realized that there was a method to my madness!Mischief  We've been through financial ruin before with my failed business, so I prepared to never have that happen again.

I'm off to the car dealerships to look for a car.  We knew that a car would be needed whenever she quit this job so I have enough to pay cash for what I'm looking for.

I hope you all have a swell day.

Galaxy, hope they get you a loaner on your machine today or get it fixed super quick (today). I hear they do make a BIG difference on sleep when you have them. Good luck on the property (and on that other one you'd probably like better). Yeah!!

Well, they didnt have any loaners, so I will have to fiddle with it till then. And YES there is a big difference in sleeping with it. I feel like I'm suffocating without it now. And I don't snore anymore. I can't say I get a more restful sleep., but definitely don't feel like I'm suffocating. And the O2 helps too. I think I can sleep without it quicker than sleeping without the CPAP.

The properties we looked at only on drive by. The one in the wrong county farther out and the cheapest with the old trailer on it the trailer is definitely trash. Property has good overlook of valley view. It has a switch back driveway we are not so sure so fond of. We would definitely have to move our trailer there if they can get it up the driveway and located right.

The other property in the right county in an area we would like and more expensive does need some TLC as we saw. Did Not look lived in now and had boken windows. MAkes me wonder about mold. It is a double wide on a slab. Did not peek in windows, just on the chance someone was still there.

Anything we get will be either "needs TLC" or we move our trailer there. I am on disability and my other half is low income. Around this area, as many rural areas, mobile homes/doublewides are fairly common. Haven't made up our minds if we call agents to look further or not. My other half wants a move-in ready perfect place, but on our budget.....maybe we just wait a year or two and see what develops.

well I cleaned out some of the enclosed porch and threw out some stuff. Stopped when my arthritic back hurt too much. Did  a nice bit of work though..... found a ton of returnable bottles to take back today.

Well should get running and do things today.

See you all later.

Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have a couple of eggs, over easy, with toast and blackberry jam, glass of Ed's OJ and an AT&SF mug of coffee, please. Thanks!

Mark, you stay on track there with the finances (now, if we could transfer some of that determination and financial smarts to Washington - D.C....)Smile,Wink, & Grin

Barry - you're gonna get to 23 C? Wow!! Break out the sunblock for sure!

Jeff, besides being great on the loco mods,Bow you have a good heart for your folks. Thumbs Up

Corey, sorry to hear about your wife's job (and I'd likely agree with you that the ones who ought to be keeping their jobs aren't always the ones who do). Will add you and the family to my AngelAngelGood to hear that you had planned just in case of something like this, though.

And will add the Tucker family also, Todd - and Robby's as well. Maybe we just need to park the chapel car next to the Diner again. AngelAngel

Weather is good here today in Cape G. - almost as good as Barry's having, but a bit warmer (s'pposed to reach upper 70's or low 80's F today). Break out the sunblock, people!Cool

I'll have my breakfast at the corner booth and watch the morning switcher, Zoe. Thanks.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Galad- Isn't that about the way things go. Someone screws up and someone else pays the price. It's good that you found a new career that you like and hey! You got trains! Oh, and I could fill you in on all the problems with no planning for the railroad. Jumping in feet first may work for swimming but it doesn't work so well for a railroad! Laugh

Corey- It looks like you were about as prepared as you could be for this. That's really hard to do. Preparing for a rainy day is what we always heard preached about but so often don't do anything. Maybe it's a blessing to relieve some stress from your wifes life like Galad. That can't be a bad thing.

Philip- I haven't changed my mind about the brain picking. Funny thing, late last week I had written my thoughts for you to poke through, sort of to give you an idea of how I see things, and strangely enough on Sunday the preacher spoke of "Blind Faith". I thought of what Der said and it kinda fit with what he said. You don't suppose someone .....? Anyway, I'm re-thinking this little point of view, sorting a few things out and I'll get with ya soon.

Well I've about settled for U30M-R-EM1   (U30C modified-rebuilt by EMD model 1) It's from the best suggestion I've had so far. I have this naming request posted on about a dozen forums and I've had suggestions from exactly one person so far.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have one of those Raisin Bran Muffins and a bottomless cup of dark roast in a R&GV Mug please and thank you!

I've been busy already this morning printing or should i say reprinting the insert for the Scholarship dinner Program.  Got an eMail first thing this morning from one of the members of the committee that I gave a sample program to last night.  I managed to misspell one of the scholarship winners names.   NOT GOOD! I have also been organizing all my Scale Rails magazines and putting them into binders using Rubbermaid Magazine Holders.

I will be very glad to have th dinner over tomorrow.  It is always a lot of work for several people and I am always right there in the middle of the confusion........

Have a hearing test this afternoon, A concert to do tonight, and have to go over to school early this afternoon to set up mics.  Today is also the School Budget vote here so I will go pull the appropriate levers while I am over there.

Galaxy, did you get the link I posted about the Museum?  We had 162 people out to the Museum for opening day on Sunday.  I think that may be a record.  They had a birthday party for the daughter of one of the members and that accounted for 40 or so.  All guests were paying so hopefully we can pay our costs for the day...........

My prayers go out to all who are grieving and in pain. May you find comfort!

Catch you later.

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

Hey Jeff, to add to the "What the heck is wrong with that loco?" feeling, throw something Alco on it, if you're not done with it yet.Whistling
