Hi guys!

I'll have 1 thin piece of ham and 1 piece of swiss on rye, celery and carrot sticks on the side with fat free ranch dressing for dipping sauce, please.

Whew! hows that for a diet starter? I weigh 220 and need to be about 180. My down fall really is sandwiches with deli meats {processed} and cheeses and potato chips on the side. We both love love love cheese around here.....we did by fat free cheese, and when the current cheese runs out, we will {groan} try it out along with the fat free mayo we now have. Anything that wasn't veggies we bought the other day was all fat free/cholesterol free/no sugar added/no or low sugar. {we BOTH could use a diet and we BOTH need to reduce cholesterol}. It is not that I am opposed to veggies....elsewise I wouldn't have spent $40.00 on salad greens and such for the garden as I do every year!!! But veggies all the time I can't do, I am Sam I am.

To those who suggest NO LITTER BOX IN THE LAYOUT/JUNK room- I hear you loud and clear, HOWEVER- The cats are my other half 's, came with the package, and I {and the layout} rank second! SO, there WILL be a second litter box in there, or in the kitchen...which would you choose to have it in???????? It AINT GONNA GO IN THE KITCHEN!!! The idea of the hooded litter box is what we will do...we have one of those in the bathroom. It's a matter of finding one in the store and having the money to buy it at the same time. I will just have to cover the layout is all. With a Dollar store $1 dropcloth is all.

I got some nice juicy T-bone steaks for just $4.99/lb. They will make for great grilling later....IF I can find the grill! It is buried on the fronteh porch....I'm gonna tear into it and start throwing stuff out!!! I'm in that mood!

Tomorrow we go to MIL's for dinner...FIL wants ribs for them we want BBQ chicken, so we get 2 of each as take out to take. MIL likes chicken BBQ, but apparently hasn't been eating chicken lately. Of course it hasn't been BBQ either. We have a great 1/2 chix /2 sides BBQ joint real close here for $7.50. Ribs are down the road at $11. We are planting salad greens and mary-golds for the MIL tomorrow in the windowboxes on the back deck as her Mother's Day "flowers".

I will try the vitamin B-6 and the arm shots for the carpal tunnel but maybe will push in August for the surgery. At least the DR can't say I didn't try it!

Well my hands/arms arre getting tired of typing now so I need to go......

HAve a great day everyone!

EDIT: I GOT TOP PAGE>>>SO TBONE STEAKS FOR ALL!

Morning all.  Wow, I missed a couple of days and about 5 pages, it seems.

Well, the Santa Barbara fire is still going, though it's slowed down a little.  Hasn't hit the city, it's still up in the Santa Ynez mountains, but 23,000 people have been evacuated from the hills and there's orders up for another 34,000 to be prepared at a moment's notice.  We've got fire crews down there from all over the state--even sent some some crews from Sacramento down there.  The problem is that the fire's happened so early that the State and Forest Service haven't hired their seasonal crews yet, so experienced manpower is at a real premium right now.  In other words, it's a MESS!

But the winds are supposed to die down this weekend, so hopefully they can get a working fireline around it.

Jeff:  Those UP models are terrific.  And that one low-angle photo of the loco coming toward you is SPECTACULAR!  Great work, guy!

Garry:  Yah, a transcontinental water pipeline from us to you doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. Tongue  The rivers out here are way up, coming out of the Sierra, and it's WAY too early.  We normally don't get our high runoff out here until the middle of June.  At least the reservoirs are filling up, but for how long, I don't know.

Well, going back to Jesuit Monday.  Ed Trafton, our resident arranging Genius (and I DO mean Genius) at the school and Fr. Wanser have the music for Baccalaureate all ready.  He called me yesterday.  I asked him if the music was sight-readable, he just gave me an Evil Chuckle.  He's playing the piano, I'm on keyboard (string section, LOL!) so we're getting together Monday to get the parts down.  The service is the week after next, on Wednesday the 19th, so we have to get the choir, brass section, percussion section and everything all together for it.  It's like directing a Movie Epic, LOL!  Smile,Wink, & Grin   Next to the annual Baccalaureate Mass, the Graduation ceremony is a slam-dunk.

That's about it from SunnyCal right now.  Time to feed the cats.  "Uff-Dah the Viking" is out in the living room on his back listening to Richard Strauss on the CD player, Her Highness Spooky is looking up at me with her, "Well, Daddy?" look.  Time to open up the cans of Fancy Feast (you don't think they'd eat something as 'common' as Purina, did you? Whistling).

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Tom Smile

Well how about a middle afternoon snack.  Cheese fries, and a sweet tea.

Haven't done anything train related.  Mostly yard work.  Weeded the drive way, and went to Lowes.  The wife was offered $20 for 50 daiseys, and about 10 other plants.  So.......Here we come home, car full of flowers.

Thats what I have been doing all day!!!

Well time to go get some dirt/pots.  Seems like we dont have that many pots Dunce.

Everybody have a good one.

My Walther's order finally came in today. That's two banded lumber stacks, two National Oil Company kits and a Digitrax DZ125 decoder. Now I can finosh up one project and start on another.

Hi Gang: Just a note to let you know that I'm still alive and kicking. Absolutely nothing doing on the MRR front. I've been busy with the ranch things and still getting behind. At least we now have some grass for the little darlings. We've been getting some rain but still not enough to fill our pond. Untill that is full the drought is still on.

Well I had better get going.

Take care.

GALAXY: Hey, sorry if I insulted, offended, irritated, ticked-off, or otherwise created any ire and or rancor about that cat box. Now I know "the rest of the story." I guess I'm pretty lucky in that my wife's evil cat pretty much has her own "apartment" thanks to having enough rooms in the house. That, and my dog would otherwise reduce said evil cat to bloody scraps of fur. Too bad there isn't a utility room, bathroom, porch, corner of an otherwise unusable basement, corner of a minefield...Whistling availible for the box.

Again, sorry if I hit a nerve.

GARRY: thanks for posting the link, really cool to see the work they're doing. Makes me wish I had the bucks (and facilities) to have a crew restore my fire engines.

Sunny, warm, and windy here...finally got the front yard mowed, and a start on the back. I'll finish it tomorrow. Loving Wife has been working towards advanced certification in weed mitigation/shrubbery re-sizing.

Might try to get a little farther on the fuel tank project, while the race is on...DARLINGTON, and my driver is on the pole.Cool

A good, SAFE evening to all,

Good Evening, Flo - I'll have one of those steaks that Galaxy's buying (so kindly) for us tonight. Dinner Oh, yes, and some brocolli, a side salad with Italian dressing, baked potato with sour cream AND butter, and a nice glass of your nice Finger Lakes wine, please. Thanks, G!

Garry, those were some interesting photos of the various parts of the SD-24 they're restoring. About as much work as some steam loco restorations I've heard about.Wow!! Saw your clouds in WPF - great job, now, how much work did it take to get those looking good again (or do I want to ask)? Whistling

BridgeTom, it sounds like you will be busy beaver for a while with Baccalaureate and other music stuff, eh? I was trying to find me a photo of a nice Viking helmet to blend into your photo of 'Uff-Dah'... Does he also like any Wagner, as well? Smile,Wink, & Grin Are Remington and Spooky still romping through the house at times, or have they (comparatively) settled down? (Somehow, I would not expect that of those two..)

Corey - thanks for posting the other view of your bridges in WPF - That helped give me a better perspective of how the original (car) bridge was laid out (and its road approaches). Thumbs Up

Well, I went by H-L and found a 'Sand' color of paint that looked pretty usable, so I bought it with my 30 percent off coupon.

Also, went by the LHS and talked with my fellow MRR member and LHS owner, Ron. I found out that Kadee's 10 and 20-coupler packs now come in the smaller manila envelopes, instead of the plastic blister cards that they used to be in. Threw me off, cause I was looking for the old style. He said the coupler packs are coming that way now. So got a 20 pack of the #5 couplers, and also picked up a couple of SSW (Cotton Belt) covered hoppers (PS2 - 2003 cu. ft.). He stocks a number of Cotton Belt items - I guess because it was the name the RR was when he first started working as a RR man (before it became SP and then UP). Got me one of the hoppers as a Bowser kit and the other as an Athearn RTR. Wasn't sure if I already had that car # or not, so I checked when I got home. Yep, Mr. Murphy did it again - I had that number already, so emailed Ron back to ask him if he would bring me a different number at the MRR club meeting Monday night and let me swap. Put the numbers of the four #'ed covered hoppers that I already have, so that should help.

Now, I have all my covered hopper kits out (SSW/Cotton Belt, D&RGW, Frisco, and 3 ATSF ones - Kato ones I got on the 'Bay a while back), to nag myself into putting more kits together tonight/tomorrow.

I also got a Mother's Day card for my daughter, and went to take it by their place, but she (and SIL and the world's most handsome grandson ever) were gone - probably to his mother's and Sarah's mother's (both in Poplar Bluff, 90 miles away). Sigh

Really nice afternoon today - lots of sunshine (now that the clouds all moved out in the late morning, probably Rob's way?). And did anybody hear from Ryan lately? He hasn't seemed to be in for a while - hopefully, that means he's making progress on his layout.

Robby, ain't that the luck - get the bargain on the flowers, but you wind up having to spend (some of?) the savings on additional pots to plant them in. Banged Head Oh, well... Hey, liked your 'plutonium storage shed' in WPF. Smile,Wink, & Grin

[Edit] Well, between the WiFi at Panera's (which is out, so we're having to use the one from the Popeye's Chicken place next door, which comes and goes as per signal strength) and (maybe) the forum's slowness tonight... Banged Head I'm just glad this only posted once..

I'm gonna kick back with my steak and munchies and watch the late afternoon sun - wonderful quality of light this time of year when it's late in the afternoon. Nothing like a backlighted switcher doing its last spotting duties of the day's run....Cool

A great Mother's Day for those of your celebrating the day with your Mum.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Hey all, just dropping by really quick.

Garry, Darn, Having 6244 and 5383 run together was cool. (there is a b/w picture on there page). Oh well, the Chinese red scheme is a nice one too. Just so you know, BN retired their SD24s in 1982. 6248 was retired early due to a wreck. The other 15 units were all traded in the GE on 6/82 on the B30-7A(B) order. Of these units, four were sold by GE to MMID. Those being the 6244,6250,6252,and 6255. 6244 went to IRM at Union, the 6250 went to the Museum in Green Bay via FRV/WC, the 6252 went to Peavey Grain in 9/86 and then to ConAgra with their facility. The 6255 went to LTE via FRV/WC and was scrapped.

Robby, nice pictures of those hoppers

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S53K6J7Zvlw

I got the mars light working on my U28B. 5451 in an ex-CB&Q unit, instead of adding a beacon to it, I'm letting keep it's mars light. Just wish that the QSI sound ones allowed this.

Now I have the fun of doing (Most of my roster ends up being Ex-CB&Q) that or adding operating beacons to all of my units. The SD9s and GP9s will be the toughest since I'll have to add new headlight fixtures if I want to do mars lights.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

I've already assembled both of the National Oil Company kits and aprayed them down with Matte Finish to kill the gloss. Later I'll seal up the cracks in the tanks where the halves joined.

We had one of those kinda showery days with a lot of wind thrown in for good measure! Howdy!!!

Been pretty busy last few days.  Chloe, A burger w/ mayo, ketchup (catsup, what ever), a side of onion rings and a Dr. Pepper...... hhmmmm maybe a RBF for desert!

Jeff - Like the Atlas photos, nicely done.  What kind of vehicle you have?  That's like 2.5 hrs of labor even up here.

RobbyP - Nice pics,  we don't get any freights down here, only commuter trains.  In Dover (NJ), the NS has trackage rights on the New Jersey Transit and keeps a unit (small geep perhaps?) and a Conrail caboose in red.  There are still quite a few up here, I would imagine for branchline work. At one time there used to be 4 or 5 different roads running through Morris County.

There are many bits and pieces of sidings at factories and lumberyards on lines that are owned by the Co's., local gvmt. or are privately owned by people (the line, previously abandoned, runs through private property in spots that the RR now leases from the owners) who prefer to see trains twice a week instead of hearing tractor trailers jake braking down the steeply graded highway 6 days a week.

A branch line up home is to be improved through the transportation stimulas package  The story made the local paper and all the NIMBYS came out in force.  Only thing is, trains have been running through the area continuously, thow less frequently now, since the mid 1800's!!

Enough I guess for now.  That RBF sure tastes good!

Think I'll take mom (her remains) for a walk on the beach tomorrow.  Maybe it sounds ghoulish, but mom was going to come down for Mother's Day this year ..... This year is going to be a tough one without her on all the special days we used to spend together as a family.

Coffee refill, please.

***Vincent, the mars light is a nice touch!Thumbs Up

Have not made it into the train room yet. Did pick up a large rat snake to show the wife, before releasing it back on the farm. Not raising any chicks right now, so he can go catch some rats and what-not.

Then the wife showed me a snapping turtle that wandered into Chief's pen (mini stallion). I took him back into the forest where it probably wondered in from.

Had to spend some time working on the drainage around the barn. What I wouldn't do for a real tractor or (in this case) a Bobcat. Did more than my share of shovelling as well. Had to be done.

It's a 94 Buick Century with a modified engine. It belonged to a police agency before I got it. I removed the push bumper and the cage shortly after I bought it.

Evenin all, Started out pullin the beat up rhubarb, dropped some in the kitchen so Strawberry Rhubarb as well as Rhubarb and Rhubarb Custard pies are here, doesn't look pretty but when cooked, who can tell. Neighbor behind started talking about the drain tile between our houses and how 3 of the four of us, not me, are having trouble an they want to sink a new tile. Whoa! Let's see if we can fix this one first so.... We did. About 3 spots where it collapsed. Fixed one spot completely, it was in the yard of the guy that doesn't have a basement and therefore no sump pump. He was real nice and kept us company while we dug a crater in his back yard, replaced about 3 ft of tile then filled it back in. 2 more dpots to go. Hey, I'm not having a problem. Where are the other two that are? Hmmmm.

Heard a familiar noise. My garden tractor. The perfect wife was mowing our yard. I think I'll keep her.

Galaxy- Yup, Trainroom.

Yeah where's Ryan. RYAN!!

Had to run water for the barn critters, so still have not made it into the train room. Better make some time tomorrow or I might consider going crazy or something.Mischief

I didn't need the push bumper and the cage made it nearly impossible to have newspapers in the back unless they were right behind me. I needed them right where I could grab them fast from the driver's seat. I was running a 200 mile paper route back then.

Went out to dinner tonight with my sister and my niece. Her significant other wasn't feeling well so he just ate a little then went and waited in the car. I was busy earlier today working on some kits. The photo should make which ones quite obvious. They still need quite a bit of work.

Tomorrow is my Birthday!  Happy B-Day To me!Big Smile Happy B-Day To me!Tongue YAY!

Happy birthday!Happy B-Day

Good morning.

It's 73 and cloudy with thunderstorms threatening. The high will be in the upper 80's and there will be thunderstorms.

Went down to the parents house yesterday and mowed their yard. I mowed most of it with their new mower but had to finish up with the old Peerless tractor after a steel reinforcing strip ripped loose from the new mowers deck and got tangled in the blades. It stopped the engine dead as a hammer! I'll have to make arrangements with my father to help drop the deck so the offending bit of steel can be removed. I'm thinking about having a an 1/8" thick strip of welded across the front of the deck and remove what remains of the bolted on strip from the bottom. If you ask me that was a bad design decision as it is sure to snag on something and get ripped off, which is exactly what happened. The makers of the Yard Pro line (MTD) will be getting a letter about this. The new mower is easy to drive and can be handled by the average 8 year old. The old Peerless on the other hand, looking like an overgrown Yard Machine, takes a bit more muscle as it's very stiff and has a heavy shift. At just over 1,200 pounds it's quite a bit heavier too. After I finished I picked up my package that had arrived from Walther's. In it were two National Oil Company kits, two banded lumber stacks and one Digitrax DZ125 decoder. I can use one of the lumber stacks as a master to make a mold, that is if my latex rubber is still good. I got the two oil company kits put together in just a few hours. I still have to fill in the cracks where the tank halves join together. I was going to use contour putty for this but discovered that my supply had gone bad and is now hard as a rock in the tube. Murphy struck again. I'll have to go to my ever-present backup, the RoseArt modeling clay. It's a bit messy but it should do the job and I most definitely will have to paint the models afterwards. The DZ125 decoder is for my Atlas SD24. I'll install it when my hands are steady enough to do the job. The Atlas U30C will be getting a basic Bachmann decoder, the same one they suggest for some of their DCC equipped Spectrums. All I need for it is motor and light control. Later today my sister and I will be taking my mother out to lunch at the Wagon Master steak house in Leesville. That will be part of our Mother's Day present for her. Later my sister and I have plans to go see the new Star Trek movie. This is the 11th one to be released. I already have the other 10 plus all of the original series and a good part of the Enterprise series and part of the Voyager series. Yes, I'm a Trekkie, though I haven't been to a convention in a couple of decades.

Happy Birthday Nik !!!!!!!!!!!Happy B-DayHappy B-DayHappy B-Day

There----that was a way to wake up!!!Sleepy

We are a lot cooler today---only getting up to 12C so we's be looking at some yard work later in the day---it is only 4C now.

Jeff On my 'lawn', such as remains from converting most to a cottage/meadow garden, I just end up using the ol' Bush Hog. How that brilliant idea got past the board---the bolted on strap--always puzzled me. It was on at least two garden tractors we had up here---both nameless b/c both do not exist anymore---I wonder whyWhistling--and both times they'd get snagged on some dang root or such from a tree and ---TTAAANNGG!!!---off the side one of the things just go. And the deck would just drop on that side. We ended up doing the weld thing ourselves. Not fun getting that wrapped up like thatWhistling

We're going to just play it cool today. I got some paperwork from w--k to do so I'll probs get that done. Oh yes. And trainroom needs work ----again.Smile,Wink, & Grin

Chloe--I'll have a coffee and an egg/muffin please. I'm going to sit at the back by the window to watch the trainyardSmile,Wink, & Grin

Any argument carried far enough will end up in Semantics--Hartz's law of rhetoric Emerald. Leemer and Southern The route of the Sceptre Express Barry

I just started my blog site...more stuff to come...

Mornin' Pancakes and sausage please. Cup of coffee thankyou. Found out the perfect wife ran over the dog tieout thing in the front yard. She came strolling up with this bent up piece of 1/4 in rod with nicks in it. Said it made a horrible noise. I nodded looking at the nicks and chunks and said. I'll change the blades this week. She said it mowed fine so why. I grinned and said, I'll change the blades this week. She asked if she hurt the mower, I said, Well it's a Cub Cadet back when it was made by International Harvester (grunt, grunt). Though it's not a John Deere, I doubt if you hurt the mower (grunt). She said I hopenot, handed me the dog tieout auger thing and said fix this. Then walked off. Still think I'll keep her.

nik.n- Happy B-Day

Jeff- I'd love o have a push bumper.Evil had one on an old 4X4 years ago. Fun. Oh wait, I've grown out of that stuff. I used to LOVE the old Star Trek. The original one. I wouldn't quite call myself a Trekkie, but I could just about tell you the name of an episode by just hearing a line. (not of couse something like Beam me up Scottie.) No more though. I recall the episodes, and could probably remember by name or vice versa, but off the top of my head? Thinking about them now. Nope. Blank. The wifes right, nothing there. I never could get into the new ones though. The rest were good Sci Fi shows just not Star Trek to me. The movies with the original cast I enjoyed. Kind of reverse typecasting.

Sttill looking forward to the new movie when it comes to vids. Movies and the necessities are just too expensive to me. I'm told the theatres really don't make much off the movie, it's the "necessities" that make the KILLING.

Have a Great Day!

 Nik.N!!!! Happy B-Day

Happy Mothers Day to those who will be joining their families today.

Jeff - You seem to be having a tough time with motorized vehicles lately!  Good thing you have the trains to relax with.

I install the equipment on our new police cars. The "push bumpers" on the new cars are more like brush guards, not like the old days. They mount to the unibody, not the frame. One car has a bent radiator support from pushing a F-250 off the highway.  Course, I wouldn't try using an Impala to push a truck to begin with..... but what do I know?

Sat at the worktable last night and had no inspiration, been a bit busy again lately.  In fact I need to check in at work today.  A cadet has driver training at the county course this week and I need to re-check the car.  It was used for patrol this weekend by mistake.

Grass needs cutting again out back and my allergies are in full force, stuffed up head, runny eyes.  Thank goodness the Asthma is cooperating so far..  Windy and in the 60's today, means a nasty day on the beach.  MIght drive down anyway....

Off to the grocery store...Eric

Nik N. Happy B-Day

Happy Mother's day to those who ARE mothers, and for those who have mothers, other halfs that are mothers, the mother of your children, MIL's, etc. etc. etc.

Working on a migraine today, supposed to go to MILs today and plant veggies for her. Dunno. Frost next 3 nights, maybe we should wait. I'm gonna wait the 3 days to plant mine. My other half not feeling well either. We haven't gotten any Mother's Day plant to put at my mother's grave either. I don't know why, but we do usually do that.

Lilacs are nasty! Allergies do not like them, sam I am. It rained yesterday but with the winds that came too, the scent is heavy on the air and stuffs our noses very well.

Well, have a happy day everyone!

Mornin' everyone!

Chloe I'll have the #2 special over easy on the eggs, bacon, homefries, and a double order of sourdough toast!  Oh, and my usual dark roast in a FGLK Mug if you please.  I'll go sit sit with Barry and the other dieters in the back to annoy them......... Whistling

Galaxy and Barry after my wife died 22 years ago I put on 90 lbs. in about 2 years.  Interesting what grief will do to you. When my blood sugar and cholesterol got bad due to being 320lbs., I managed to remove 50 lbs. of the weight.  I am still topping the scale at around 270 (265 by my scale yesterday).  I have changed my diet to be almost vegetarian and have cut down on fat intake (which I am supposed to do with the diabetes anyway....) as well.  With fresh vegies during the summer out of the garden I should be able to keep this on track for a while. I would love to get back down to the 230 I weighed when my wife was alive!  Good luck to you guys!

Actually should get time to do some model railroading today as it is too cold to do much outside.  If the rain holds off, I will finish up the lawn.  It got interrupted by a storm yesterday.

A Happy Mothers Day to all!
