Eric ... add me to that list of " ever get them going " layouts .... .... I either buy another car or 2 and fool with them or just have to have that building on ebay .... which changes everything . Oh well ... may wait until the darn rain stops ... do all my work out in a building I built and it's too darn damp and rains about 6 out of 7 days here .
Just a quick stop for a slice of apple pie and a cupa regular. Waiting to see if the pics we've been trying to send to Ca all day finally went through. I've heard of slow easily exceeded systems, but this guy must use Pony Express. . Nice additions Jeff - to patch or repaint?
RT - I'll check the N spares box soon as I find it. Pretty sure we don't have any geep bits but the couplers sound familiar.
Corey - ground foam can be added to nearly anything to make it look better. Just add hair spray or mist on some contact cement. The other stuff I found brilliant was the Scenic Express leaf stuff (think it's the same as what Noch sells)
Time to check if the mail came back yet again. CUL, J.R.
Afternoon...RT..I checked thru a couple of boxes..I don't have a LL GP9 but I do have some for a GP 18 if that would work..Do you still need a coupler? Got a bunch of them..Is coupler body mounted or mounted on truck? Send me a Email...Jerry
Good evening to all, I hope everyone had a great day. Still very cloudy and misty foggy here, we may see the sun for a while tomorrow afternoon before another 0.75 to 1.50 inches of rain hit the area. Everything is as green as can be, and grass has been cut for the 1st time this season as of two days ago.
Tomorrow we head west to the LHS, and then to the Steaming Tender ( Former Palmer, Ma train station) for lunch. I hope I can snag a few good deals.
BARRY: Cases of S-R pies? Have you met DUKE??? You will have to fight him off for those pies, at least they are leaving JERRY's Pecan pies alone now that S-R is in season.
GARRY: Look !!!! You and DUKE have more competition for S-R pies !! Better get to the Diner early, it's a good thing that JEFF doesn't eat those pies.
I see that everyone is healthy in the Diner, so I guess no one has been kissing Swine lately.
Later guys,
Hey all, I ain't been in here in a while. Guess I have some catching up to do.
I have an update on my dog. He seemed like it was just a virus from a tick since he started getting better shortly after putting him on antibiotics and steriods (his energy increased, he eats and drinks like normal, and his weight started going back up). They did some tests based on a sample from one of his lymph nodes, and the news isn't good. Turns out it's the worst-case scenario. He has cancer, lymphosarcoma to be exact. If it was isolated to one area, it would be treatable but it's everywhere. The doctors only give him a few weeks to live, maybe a couple of months if we put him on kemo. We are electing to put him down rather than put him on kemo. That's really all I have to say for now.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Cases might be better than singles!! I'm not doing the S-R thing just yet---PC takes 'em all anyways!!

Vincent, sorry to hear about your dog.
I've been working on the new arrivals. Neither unit had end rails installed so I took care of that. The end rails were packed with them. GE U30C. The end rails are from a U33C.EMD SD24. The end rails didn't want to stay on and I finally hit them with some CA.They're in line for the installation of Digitrax DZ125 decoders.

I agree there. That does not sound good at all. Sorry to hear about that
Vincent... What kind of dog and how long have you had him? Sorry he has cancer. That may be very painfil, and as Jeff said putting him down may be the humane thing to do.
Jeff... I like the "New arrivals".

I'll take both please!!
Vincent I too am very sorry to hear about your dog. That decision is always a heartwrenching one even when you know it is for the best. You are in my thoughts and prayers!
OK Zoe, I'll have a piece of SRP and a RBF. Just gonna go sit in the back and see who else shows up.

We'll get there sooner or later!
***Vincent, you have my heart felt sympathies. My wife lost her last collie to that same form of cancer. Took him in on a Friday and by the time we returned on Monday he was gone. For my wife, that was really rough. You are making the right choice, no question about it!
***Barry, I had Robby make the video and I even let him use his own layout and cars!
***Jeffrey, didn't take you long to start fixing them up. Going to weather them, too?
Finished up for the day so am heading back to the train room tonight to start playing around with some tile adhesive directly on the foam to see if I can turn some of the blobs into rocky looking surfaces. I'll take a Coffee TO GO, please.
Rob
to everyone; thanks for the kind words.
As to his breed, Duke's a black lab, pit bull, and great dane mix. One of our neigbors got him as a puppy as a playmate for their dog, but Duke was to energetic for her. Our other dog got along great with him. I've had him for about 4 years, and he's been a really well behaved dog. Right now I'm just rembering the good time I had with him.
Why do I have to pick up the tab now of all times?
Cederstrand***Jeffrey, didn't take you long to start fixing them up. Going to weather them, too?
PackerWhy do I have to pick up the tab now of all times?
Sorry again about your dog. I'm sure you'll miss him.
Here are a few progress shots of the trestle. The concrete bridge only has a coat of paint on it. No weathering or even gluing has been done. The trestle itself is just sitting in place. I still need to finish painting and weathering the piers before I mount anything. I also haven't planted any trees yet. What do you think of the bushes on the side of the ' road'? I'm thinking they may need to be trimmed any replaced. What do you guys think so far? Please be gentle. Oh ya, we need water as well as more river rocks!
Corey, I like it! That's gonna look dynamite when it's finished.
Corey-That highway bridge will be a good railfanning area!! Around here those bridges tend to be sitting on some sort of island type of affair---make sure you have a photographer near that bridge!!
Unfortunately, the auto bridge is no longer around. They realigned the highway when I was little so you didn't have to make a ninety degree turn to go under the trestle. The only photos I have of the area with the old car bridge are from old post cards. I may need to add some rip rap around the bases of the concrete bridge to simulate sediment. This river is not very deep unless it's after a hard rain. Here are a couple of photos off of the Blue Earth County Historic Society's website.
Good evening,
Vincent (Packer): I can't tell you how sorry I am to hear about your dog. You're making the right choice...and one I dread having to think about thinking about.
Corey: That bridge scene just keeps getting more and more awesome and awe-inspiring.
Jeff: Loving the SD-24. One of my "some decade" projects is to get one, de-turbo it, and rebuild as a CNW SD-18. I found a few in Marshalltown back in '92, then found some dead-lined at Oelwein in '96. Very impressive looking machines.
Chloe, please pour me a mug (CNW would be nice, but not too picky tonight) of coffee please while I settle into a corner booth.
Frustrating day in the newspaper biz. I go and interview a guy about a program through a community rec. center that sells bike helmets at a steep discount. Takes all of about five minutes. I could make a real nice one paragraph news blurb out of it. THAT editor wants something more substantial, I'm sure. So....am digging around the web trying to find injury statistics. So far, I've found some good stuff...from 1998 and 2000 respectively. Nothing like good decade-old information.
Will continue to fight THAT fight tomorrow.
The area I cover is having a special election today to see if people wanna pay an extra cent sales tax or not. Lots of pre-election hoo-hawing from both sides. So...to salvage the trip, and potentially do THAT editor a favor, I stop into the polling places...and wouldn't you know it? RECORD LOW turnout... I finally get a shot of one guy signing-in to vote...
Somedays...I think I'd be better off back driving a delivery van......

Evening, Chloe - just a cup of hot cocoa for me, and I'll take it in the back booth, please and thank you.
Some of you may recall my mentioning a little 'difficulty' at work last week...Well, apparently how I said/did/presented during some of that didn't sit well with one or more "superiors" (and I chose those quotation marks on purpose). Or maybe it was just coincidence that this afternoon, I get called to my supervisor's office (and see our clinical director there) and I get a write-up for insubordination (based mostly on someone's interpretation of my actions (or inactions). The implied threat is there, I have no doubt about that. So having little/no real retirement, being not that far from the so-called retirement age, and having my job in jeapordy, this was not my favorite afternoon of my life to date. I have been feeling numb, mad, sad, anxious, and probably another dozen feelings, and would not likely be fit company for anyone tonight. Those of you Diners of a praying nature (or healing thoughts kind), I would ask your prayers for wisdom, a closed mouth, and better options than what I have at this point.
Thank you, Diners. I'm going to go sulk for now. I may not be in as much for a bit while I sort out, regroup and lick my wounds. I will continue my prayers for you Diners - I need some time focusing on something else (more so, now).
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Evening Diners,
Vincent, really sorry to hear about your dog. It is always a tough decision but they relie on us to to look after them and sometimes that means doing as you did. I can sympathize as we had to put down our little Jamie last October and we still miss him. You do have a good attitude though as you will always have great memories. Heck, I had a dog that passed away 26 years ago and I remember him often.
Corey the bridge looks fantastic!!
Have to run as must pick up my wife.

JimRCGMO I would ask your prayers for wisdom, a closed mouth, and better options than what I have at this point.
Will pray for you as well as for me---you did tell me something as well about my mouth-------
JimCG ... That sounds like a bad deal. Will pray
Vincent .... Looks like a very nice dog. It is sad he is so young.
Corey ..bridges look great. I was in Mankato long ago.
Everybody..... this link was posted in the prototype info section. i've not seen anything like it.

Good evening (again),
Chloe? Yeah, another mug or two of coffee please, and thankyou.
Believe it or not, but thanks to the magic of iTunes and the internet...I'm sitting here listening to "Conjunction Junction," from Schoolhouse Rocks. The only one I really remember, and the only one I ever really liked. Anybody ever notice that the "AND" boxcars looked like the ROCK ISLAND boxcars of the day?
JIM: I feel your pain brother... I'm still smarting from being thrown under the bus back in my true "Amana Medic" days. And yeah, my mouth has gotten me into a fix or two also. Something in me about not putting up well with BS, I guess. Best of luck to you...whatever the outcome.
In honor of Jeff's new SD-24, here's a pair of CNW SD-18s, that started life as 24's.
I'd say "good night," but a few too many of us ain't exactly capable of that right now... so, I'll just go with "good luck and good wishes."
Strawberry smoothie, please.
***Jim, that just plain sucks. Sorry to hear that. Do you have a heavy bag you can take some frustration out on perhaps? Hang in there.
***Corey, when all the parts are finished, that is going to be one impressive layout you can be proud of.
***Garry, that photo is most odd. How are those things used?
Added some rocky surfaces on the wife's foam canyon using a paint stick & tile adhesive. Not sure if it's working yet. Might need to go ahead and paint some sections and then see how it looks.
Have a good night all.
Hi gang,
I think I need a R.B. Float and an order of sweet potatoe fries, Thanks girls. Hold the flying pies tonight..
Haven't posted for a while but have found time to read occasionally . I cheer for you all in your good times and
offer prayers and sympathies for those less fortunate.
JIM: Sorry to hear that news, but I have always known you to be a very positive guy and I want you to be that way now. Stop beating yourself up. Things will turn around and you will find that all will work out for the best. Just stay positive Bud. Prayers included.
COREY: You are indeed an incredible modeller, those bridges and setting look to be prize winners. Congrats.
VINCENT: I can feel for you as CN Charlie mentioned and others. Over my sixty eight years I have had to put down quite a few dogs, mainly because of old age, but one had been hit by a car after he escaped a dog run and another because of severe arthrightis. It is never easy but in many instances it is the right thing and humane thing to do. Enjoy your memories of him.
JEFF: I wasn't aware that the LM. had an interchange with Uncle Pete. You are getting a lot of foriegn power down south.
JERRY: I was sorry to hear you got your leg tore open, but glad to hear they are accomodating you at home and that it is healing well. How are those staging yards coming along? And do say Hi to Sallie for us.
JR; Was glad to hear of some positive news about your house. Boy that has been a rough year. But soon it will be train time again. Have a great season of racing too.
ROB: Very nice start on that canyon and river. I am anxious to see how the expanded foam gets covered. Please keep us informed and your thoughts on it. Whats happening with those tressels, have you just laid them aside for now??
BRIDGE TOM: Congratulations on the recycled job. You sound extremely happy and I am glad for you. Stay out of the pollen and just cuddle with your lady friend and those two wildcats when it is blowing around. OR maybe we should have an old fashioned "BEE" and all come down there and seal up that garage, install an A/C and move the Buttes back a couple of feet.. .NO MORE POLLEN ON THE YUBA SUB.....................
Where are we getting our orange juice from now. I haven't heard diddle from our Mexican friend (OJ-ED) in along time. Sure hope he is well. Also haven't seen any posts from BLUE HILLS either for quite a spell. And FERGIE, where art thou ??
Best wishes to all the other DINERS. Off to bed now as I have to work late tomorrow night.
The "Wobbly" is runnin just fine and on time to boot. Must get the Wife's camera fired up one of these days.

Evening all from Quasi-Sunny Cal--we had another Pineapple Express (mid-Pacific) storm move in here today, it did a split, missed the Valley entirely, and SLAMMED the Sierra with about 3-4 inches of rain, which means snowpack is history, rivers are full, creeks are bouncing around and the reservoirs are getting filled in record time--which might be a Good Thing if it were next month. So while I had the windows and the doors open enjoying the sunsine, forty miles up the road from me, everything was getting HAMMERED! Ah, California--you don't like the weather, either wait five minutes, or drive forty miles, LOL!
We had choir practice down at the church this evening, drove down there and ran into a Cinco de Mayo block party about four blocks down from the church, parking was a mess. People out in the street in front of two clubs, DJ's on the sidewalk, and instead of Mariachi music, we had Rap blasting all over the place. A nightmare getting in and out.
What, you ask, is Cinco de Mayo? Well, if you ask anyone getting bombed out of their frames at the block party, they couldn't tell you. Even the Mexican-Americans. "I don' know. It's a party." One of them, as I was exiting the Starbucks on the next block, prior to heading to the church, wrapped his arm around my shoulder and said, "Hey, you gonna celebrate?" I smiled and said, "Not right now. Do you know what the holiday is about?" "No." "It's a celebration to remember when the Juaristas tossed the French out of San Luis Potosi in Mexico in 1862." He blinked. "Huh?" I grinned. "Yes. And they lost the city to the French again several years later whem Maximilian of Austria was installed as Emperor of Mexico." "Huh?" I shrugged. "Just a little history there, guy."
Okay, I'm probably wrong on the dates, but I've never understood that celebration out here, anyway. It's a chance to get drunk, eat Tacos and start gang-fights.
Oh well--
Vince: I'm so sorry to hear about Duke. It's a wrench, believe me, losing a companion. I went through it with Lowell last Fall (kidney failure), and it takes a while. My prayers are with you, just remember the terrific times and the great companionship he gave you. The wonderful thing about animals is that their love is absolutely unconditional. And when you feel you're ready, remember that there are other animals out there that really need the love that you can give them.
Jeff: How's the foot, BTW? Not into diesels, but that new aquisition looks pretty darned handsome. And I always hear good things about Atlas. I'm getting really excited about their new track-cleaner, it looks like just the thing for my Pollen-swamped Yuba River Sub.
Jim: Prayers to you, my friend. I hope that this blows over as it rightfully should. One negative should not be allowed to weight heavily against too many positives, which I know you entail. I put you on the prayer list for Mass, and I hope it helps.
Got a phone call from Dave Bischoff at Jesuit today--he's Department Chair for the Fine Arts. Message: After school is out at the end of May, when can we get together for a couple of beers? Hey, that's the way they work over there, LOL!
Well, that's about it from WeirdCal tonight. A buddy of mine just told me that if I put additional Tomar sliders on my Articulateds, they'll run even BETTER! Okay, next project, LOL!
Oh, BTW, in case you need an update on "Uff-Dah the Viking" (formerly known as Remington), here he is, disguising himself as a rug. All 20+ pounds of him.
