JimRCGMO And BridgeTom, speaking of 'California Girls' (cue the Beach Boys cut here, Ray...), is that "ultra-HOT choir director" (to quote you...) perhaps the same lady friend that you have mentioned a time or two? You rascal, you! Oh, and CONGRATULATION$ on the re-hiring offer (and grabbing it so quickly!). Nice thing is, you still have some of your weekdays available for w**king on the layout, too. Very nice deal, I'd say. Jim in Cape Girardeau

Jim: She's ultra-hot, but she's 26 and I'm close to 70. So, no, she's ultra-HOT because of her talent, vitality and verve (the guys at Jesuit just LOVE her) and the fact that we have a pretty neat kinda/sorta 'father-daughter' professional relationship that we've built up over the past few years. She's involved with a really nice guy (not a member of the Jesuit faculty) and when she's not conducting choirs, she and her guy team/coach soccer for a local Catholic grammar school.
MY lady friend Lois, on the other hand, teaches English at St. Francis girls high school, where she is dearly loved, is into classic movies, concerts, and is the most incredible Scandinavian cook you could ever imagine. She's the one that nicknamed my Norwegian Forest Cat Remington "Uff-Dah!" I'm Austro-German, she's Swedish/Norwegian, we're still trying to figure it out, LOL! As she told me, "I don't understand how we get along so well, after all, you INVADED us in 1940!" She's a treasure. And she and Leah, the ultra-hot Jesuit choir director have become GREAT buddies.
Which frankly, scares me a little. I mean, I wonder what they TALK bout when they hit the 'ladies room' on a double date?

Thanks for the picture, and I will try it on the other one.
"Rust, whats not to love?"
JimRCGMO Galaxy - are you in HO scale for your layout (I forgot)? If so, that room's not a lot of room! Of course, if you're in N scale it's not quite as bad, but not exactly palatial, either. I'm still fiddling with possible ideas for my layout, and really thinking I'll just wait until I get moved to another place first. Jim in Cape Girardeau

Yeah I have an HO layout, Jim. It's a whole 3.5 feet by 5 feet. A 15R oval inside and interconnected to an 18R oval. In the center is a 3 spur "yard" and a two spur "engine service facility". The room it is in has the furnace jutting into it making it smaller than the other BR, that's why it gets used as a "closet"/store room etc. I forced the issue to have the layout. I DO have N scale stuff I could do, but always wanted HO, so I went for the HO instead.

Yeah, but I used to be a good typer. I know sometimes my right wrist gets sore quicker than other times. I was shocked when I really looked at how my handwriting had changed and was almost not readable anymore. I've noticed it, but never really studied it like I did when at the DR.s office. The important thing now is that we do something about it to solve the problem. I can't wait for it to happen! No more tingly or pins and needles hands. And I won't feel the nerve get twinged every time I cut up my dinner. That is assuming my reg DR. sets me up to do something about it. If anybody is reluctant, I'm gonna press for it! Hopefully Thursday I will find out.
Well, another day gone by. I did not sleep well last night so hopefully I do tonight. Early day tomorrow.
The prayer candle is up for a friend of ours who faces torn rotator cuff surgery on wednesday. He's rather nerve-wracked about it. It is also prayers for anyone else who needs thoughts and prayers!

HO and N Scale.
After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Hmm. I hope you can improve (bet you can), that engine doesn't photograph well, to me. And it's not the weathering, just the engine.
-Morgan
I agree, I couldn't find a engine shot. I found some but it was in the yellow/blue paint scheme. This might be a "false" engine. BUT...............I might be wrong.
The good thing is, I can make it as RUSTY as I want then .
Good evening, All. We did our usual train op while working out this afternoon.
Friday PM is an operating session with our local MR club. It should be great fun.

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Now I've officially started a river project, even if it's on the wife's (HO) layout. Decided to build the canyon walls over a wire frame, but wanted to get the riverbed started first. Used the hand saw, drill with wire wheel, and lots of vacuuming. Then mixed up tile adhesive, elmers glue & a reddish colored grout to smear around a bit and help set in the trestle supports. Those supports were leftover N scale I glued together. Also glued down a few natural thin rocks to create some interest. Tons more to add & then paint, etc... At least it's a start.
Healing thoughts for those in need.
Have a good night all.
Rob
Evenin all. Just stopped in to say G'night. Did get to spend a little tim on my supply house. Slow he says.
Jeff- I'll bet you muttered a few less than kind remarks about the Parish roads. Oh and I've been down your way a few times (Ft Polk and Alexandria) You have a good public transportation system. Grab a flying bug and hang on!
Morgan- Good Luck on the scores. Though I agree with Tom. But while the schools still use them, I hope you do well.
Rob-Glad the storm was a dud. And the Rivers looking good.
Jim- After I typed that, I seemed to recall what you just reminded me of. Sorry about that. I was either napping or I still had meringue in my ears! Oh and as for haircuts and the prices, If you recall my picture you may have noticed my haircuts are few and far between anymore. I told this one gal friend of ours when she asked if I cut my hair, I drive down the road with the window down, cut the hair that blows in my face and then go home and try to make the right side look as close to the left as I can. (truth) No probs with the perfect wife selling the train stuff. She's a good supporter of my little hobby.
Bridge Tom- I don't think we want to know what they talk about when they go "powder"
Galaxy- Absolutely right! Get it taken care of ASAP. It's not the doctors hands. Unfortunately I have tingling, numbness, pain shoots etc but no Carpal Tunnel. I'm happy though I can still feel.
(yawn) G'night

Good morning. It's 66 and cloudy. The high will be around 83 and it will be partly cloudy.Looked at the road damage to the bottom of my car yesterday. Looks like one of the power steering lines was torn open. Looks like the low pressure line. That means it can be easily fixed. Problem is I can't get at it until I can get the car over a pit or a ditch. Being that the ditch is the more practical choice (and the closest) I'll have to wait for it to dry out some. We got about four days worth of rain in ten hours yesterday so the ditches were running level with the roads for a while and in some places the roads were underwater. I did a little more work on the covered hopper and made it a little grimier. Looks like I may be mowing my sisters yard today. Her mower still won't start. As for what else I'll be doing today, it's an open book. I'll know when I get there.Today's Weather for:Sundown, LA 71446-6114 5/4/2009Wind Chill: 67°FHumidity: 96%Dew Point: 66°FSo Far TodayHigh: 67°FLow: 66°FRain: 0.00"Rain Rate: 0.00"/hGust: 6mph NNWToday High: 85 Partly cloudy. Hi Jeffrey. I know you have nerve damage from diabetes. I appreciate that. I also appreciate your breathing problems and other disabilities, as I think you do mine. Often, we, you and I, can commiserate with each other. When I wake up in the morning my arms are numb from just below the shoulder all the way down. I don't even feel pressure. It is then I could chew off a finger and not know it. It doesn't matter which position I sleep in. Of course I also can't move them very well and have to wait for the pins and needles to come back by trying to hold my arms straight out in front of me. The wrist braces help some, but not all the time and not all that much. I am lucky, however, that hopefully the surgery could fix that for me, while you may continue to suffer.
Prayer candle will be lit later today when we return home for a friend of ours and anyone else needing prayers and thoughts.\
Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning,
May I have a regular coffee and a toasted hard roll please? Haven't been by for a while lately between the shop, races and just a regular old lack of motivation. No model railroading lately either as life just got in the way. Other than being totally busy I have no complaints and seeing Jeff and Galaxy compare notes makes me realize how easy I have it with my carpel tunnel issues.
Rob - the river is going to look great between the bed and the surrounding terrain. Keep us posted.
Gotta run and get things started in the shop. At some point I'll try to get an idea what's been up in here. Catch y'all later. J.R.

Rob great pictures, your doing a great job.

A cup of good hot coffee and keep em coming please ...
Finally getting the detailing started on some pieces ... I use weathering powders mostly ... and an air brush . Like to do it outside under my maple tree but this darn rain about everyday has stopped that . Only have one car detailed inside ... my stock car with wood stalls and pigs ... most of my cars are coal and freight . I don't own any passenger ones .
Coffee in a large Santa Fe mug, please & thanks.
***Ole Timer, how about posting a pic or two? Or, where would one find your website? Hope the rain stops and the sun comes out soon so you can get back outside. I have always enjoyed working outside (wildlife art) and most of my early works have bugs in the paint.
Thanks for all the compliments on the wife's riverbed guys. Hope you still think it's alright when finished. Have to do some other work today first but this evening I plan on starting a wire frame for the mountains that will surround the river.
Have a good day all.
Morning All!
Geez, almost lunch time already? Umm, how about a grilled cheese w/ bacon and a decaf? Thanks!
Rainy and chilly, damp of course.... day 2 of 5 from what the prognosticators say. Well, Wednesday may be 'only' cloudy.
The basement's too damp for painting, maybe I can do some gluing done on the freight car unloading building. Been thinking a while on how that one is going to come out.
Jim - I did date a woman around my age from an old job, went out a few times, had fun.... things seemed to be going well until the one night I met her at a club (planned)... "Hi Eric! This is my husband Gary!" Gary it seems, traveled a lot in his job. Needless to say I ask first now.......
Now as far as younger women (within reason, 10-11 yrs)... I'm always open..... and have nothing to hide.
Okay, enough of that. Meeting week FD tonight FA tomorrow, late nights.
Later all, Eric
Good morning All...Its partly cloudy and 63 here...I'll have a double cheese burger, fries and a diet coke please..Thank You...Slipped in while caregiver is down putting laundry in...Dr. is going to send visiting nurse in to change my bandages..
Rob..Thanks for photos..river bed looks great..keep us updated...
Jeff..Nice weathering on EL hopper..
JR...Great to see you been wondering how you were doing...Hope you can get back to your trains soon..
Lee..That b-man 2-10-2 sounds like a real work horse!!...
You all have a good one...Jerry
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe just a bran muffin and a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug if you please. Got a blood draw tomorrow moring so I best behave myself this morning..........
Got an email this morning asking me to do sound for the Middle School Chorus concert this Thursday so I will have a busy week. This evening the MLK Committee will interview 11 candidates for Martin Luther King Scholarships. From the looks of the applications, we will really have our work cut out to choose 4 or 5 of them to get scholarships. This is the best group of kids I have seen in the 20+ years I have been with the committee. That's a good thing I guess.
Somebody asked about my sister's cat yesterday. A couple years back my sister got a local teenager who was to go over to her house and take care of the cat. She forgot and the poor thing went without food or water for several days until I showed up to water her plants. It is a very good thing I showed up when I did as she wouldn't have lasted much longer. After that I have taken it upon myself to drive up there (15 miles one way) and see that the cat is alright and feed her. Of course the cat still blames me for the time she didn't get fed and is just now starting to act almost agreeable to having me around...... The cat is 14 years old and my sister found out that her kidneys are starting to fail (had blood test at the vets a month ago). So I have made peace with the little monster and don't really mind taking care of her. But it is a nusiance every day when my sister is gone someplace.
The Crab Apple and the Flowering Quince trees are in blossom in my front yard. May take a photo or two if I get a chance.
Won't be much going on on the layout for the rest of this week with the concert coming up, but I am still waiting for supplies to arrive from Walther's Out Of Stock anyway....... LHS says they should be in this week.
Hope you all have a great day!
Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
Been busy with some layout video, and trying to finish up the "weathering" on th eSanta Fe engine. SO.......I will take a sweet tea, and a slice of pecan pie. Need some energy!!!!!!
Well heres a quick video of my layout. I went for the "sunset" look. I will try to get another video later. I also added a light to the cement plant. I will try to get a shot of it tomorrow.
Here's the video.
Jerry - nice that the Dr sends someone to you to take care of your leg. Heal quick..
Jeff - I like that Lackawanna car. That road must be something to tear a return line on that P/S.
Ray - my cats get all fussy when I've been gone for a few days. My close friend takes good care of them, I guess they miss the attention they get when I'm home.
RobbyP - Nice video! Looks like you have a very nice layout there.. Mine looks good too.... in my head!!
Eric
I made a short video today that shows my new covered hopper in my long freight just behind the mid-train helper.

Lee-I just discovered that the area I'm supposedly modelling also did a lot of exporting of cattle--- Did I think to get ANY stock cars?---NNNOOOOOO--so now I have another excuse---aherm---reason to visit the FLHS----heeheehee
Ray- Spent the past few days in Woodstock cat sitting sisters two little ones "Lady" and "Sweetpea". She had a show ans sale in Dundas ON to go to and I had the excuse of seeing a couple of friends about reforming a band we had. Seems there is enough interest in it after we trotted out a bunch of covers/originals at a club in town. All 5 of us play at least 3 instruments a piece. And the drummer--he does all sorts of electronic effects with ye ol''ring modulators' and such---he can trigger all kinds of stuff through those kits---heeheehee
Well---I better pay some attention to the little 'Spring' here----

Jeff, nice video, especially those lead locomotives and the two SOO hopper cars, LOL.Barry, what area are you modeling? I have a few cattle cars myself; the area I model transported live and dressed meats from Chicago to New York City. I found in a video they had a “meat train” that ran twice daily (except Sundays) composed of refers and live stock cars.Have you seen the cattle sound decoders yet??? Pigs, horses, chickens, and cows. The decoder can be installed in a livestock car and randomly it will play animal noises.
B&O wagon top box cars.
Does anyone know what color they were? China red maybe???

Mostly the American high plains/Canadian prairies(N.Dakota, Manitba, Montana, Saskatchewan--). In that vicinity------they'd take the cattle from stockpens( another minor detail I forgot) and bring them to places like Chicago---although I'm shying away from BIG urban centers----
