Dick, rail traffic south is indeed cut off due to the flood. Both CN and CP have lines that run south and as they are close to the river, all is quiet. There is quite a bit of traffic on both lines, especially CP which is the main Soo Line track down to Minneapolis. My friend lives a quarter mile from the line and says there are about 6-8 trains in a typical 24 hour period.

Not much happening on the RR front, namely the Mortimer sub. I started a box car kit but didn't get much done and I started to do some switching on the layout but only got as far as getting the SW8 out of its storage siding. Just one of those weeks.

Hopefully it will dry up enough this weekend so we can get some yard clean-up done. Temps are supposed to be about 60F which is good for us.

I'm trying to sell my FIL's car for my MIL. If you recall he passed away last summer. It's a '99 Lincoln Town Car in immaculate shape, only problem is that it is red. Could have sold it easily if it were black or gray but I suppose there is someone else out there that wants a red Lincoln. Must say that it is a little depressing selling that car as it was his pride and joy. I'm sure there are lots of you that can relate to that.

Well all I did today was weather up a 2-bay hopper.  The NS engine sold, and its heading to United Kingdom.

Well I have a sweet tooth.  So....a slice of SPLAAAAAAAAAT.   Well let me change it, since I see the pie I was going to order is on the wall.

Got a few things done around the house and work today. Had to do some errands for work around a bunch of mailings, company having an anniversary--(yeehaw)---so spent some extra time doing that as well as the honey do list--Got the rest of the evening to bang together some framework for the extension---gotta use the wood around here for something

***Todd, I have an old (HO) lighted Life-Like car set aside to turn into a Diner for the wife's layout. She also already has a Ma's Kitchen, so any wee little folk will have a couple places to chose from. And her circus/carnival will have it's own vendors.

Should finally make it back down into the train room this evening. Who knows, maybe I'll even have time to do something on my own layout for a change.

I just got back from the Alergist's Office a while ago.  Blood pressure was 132/82.  Not bad for me at a doctors office......  The only thing she really did was rotoroot out my right ear which has to be done several times a year.  Combination of Hearing Aids, wet ear canal, and fungus on top of psoriasis in that ear.

It has now made it all the way up to 50°F here in the Finger Lakes and is going to be 36°F tonight.  Guess I'll light up the wood stove and burn off more odds and ends to clean up the back porch where I store the wood.  Did that last night and the house was toasty warm at midnight when I went to bed.

Barry, I just sent you an e-mail to your address you gave me.  Let me know when you get it. 

I am continuing to finish up some details on the sceniced portion of the layout.  Got some more shrubs and weeds planted along part of the ROW this morning, and hope to start making some mile markers this afternoon and evening.

 Good afternoon to all, very windy here today, 25 to 35 mph but no rain and record warmth courtesy of Jeff and the southern lads coming here for tomorrow through Monday. Records that have stood since 1872 could be broken if the temps hit 83F

Been splitting wood all morning with roto tiller, yes, a roto tiller. Troybilt made a tiller back in the 80's that had a removable tiller head, which allowed you to place a variety of attachments on the engine via a dog clutch. On such attachment was a 13 ton log splitter on a steel beam and two rear wheels so that you could take this beast anywhere the trees were cut.I'll have to figure out how to have one of these in the layout and 1/87 scale. I'll bet Jeff could do it!

JEFF: Nice night shot!! The only thing missing is the guy spraying graffetti on that box car in the dark shadows. As for your trailer, you indeed are living in a Faraday Cage....VERY SAFE.

DUKE: WHAT !!!!!???? You mean Faye didn't make any SRP for Garry??? Tsk tsk tsk I sure would like to be out in MI this summer for that Berkshire run. How far is it from your town? Washington is it?

DER JOHN: Clearing is on the way John along with some wind. Today I put all the snow shovels away, so I have proclaimed that Winter is OVER in this part of New England.

Howdy All...It partly cloudy and 63 here....I'll have a windy city dawg drag it thru the garden,fries and a shake please..Thank You..Had another nite where I had trouble sleeping so probaly won't get much railroading in for napping today..I finished paper building all but posts on front..and primed IC caboose but found some bad places so more sanding..Reminds me of my old model car building days...

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have my usual dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug and a double order of sourdough toast with strawberry presurves this morning. 

Stayed up to well after midnight last night looking through the photos I took at Woodstock last weekend.  About half of then are keepers.  For model photography automatic setting with the flash just doesn't make it.  On the other hand bringing the lighting equipment,a tripod, and the other stuff would be very polite......  I'll post a couple later in the day.

I have an allergy recheck scheduled for this afternoon at the ENT Doctors office.  Just a routine, once a year checkup.  The rest of the day is mine to play with the trains........

Well, off to the tiny trains!

Jimmy: to the Diner. House rules are very relaxed as to Topic. We are a generally polite bunch, appreciating humour etc. that's compatible with our mixed gender and wide age range clientele. I've found I can ask any modelling / prototype question without being treated like a moron. So, as CapeJim has said, let's know about your modelling or railfaning interests and plans. Enjoy!

Working on the fix for that F40PH. Have the electrical side of it nailed, but now the wheels (NWSL) I've put on are too sharp flanged, and pick EVERY facing point turnout!  So, the MT off layout backshop (probably my computer desk keyboard shelf, maybe the workbench) will grind down the edges of the flanges on emery paper so the profile more closely resembles NMRA RP25. Wish me luck!

Rob- I think that structure is a very good representation of a small town Hospital. Good eye there. Some that I've been in don't have cafeterias for guests they usually rely on the local restaurants. Hey there's an idea for a neighboring building. A Diner, imagine that.

Well gatta move a freezer today. Brenda wants to swap with mom before she sells hers. We have a chest type and she wants a stand up. It's 65 and cloudy. The high should be in the mid 80's and it will be partly cloudy.

Yesterdays layout work involved changing out a few lights and shuffling some structures around. The Lakeside Shipping building and Albert's barber shop are now where the American foundry used to be (near the north engine house). The American foundry and the Ace Hardware store are now where the Midtown Consolidators used to be (between the service spur and the park. The Midtown Consolidators building was cut in half and the front half mounted against the backdrop where Albert's barber shop and Ace hardware used to be. The building which will someday be PAK-a-Pig BBQ has been moved. It's now between Ezra's service station and the south engine house. The Freezee ice cream stand has been moved from behind the Shell station and now faces the southeast corner of the park. There were too many complaints about kids crossing the engine house spur between the park and the Shell station to get ice cream. Is everybody thoroughly confused now?

Today  High: 85    Partly cloudy early in the morning then becoming mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 80s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight  Low: 65    Mostly clear early in the evening then becoming partly cloudy. Lows in the mid 60s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.

Jeff, that's a good arrangement on your surge surpressor setup. Did you figure that your area might get a lot of lightning strikes when you moved in there, or how soon did you decide to start that setup?

I already knew the area was prone to lightning strikes. Almost everyone out here helps keep the makers of surge suppressors in business. Before my parents changed the layout of their house (Original part was built in 1967, they bought it in 1970) we had problems with ball lightning in the northwest corner of the house. That's the master bedroom. The pool pump is right outside the window. All the steel and iron was like a lightning rod. Speaking of which, just 12 feet away was an 80 foot tall telescoping antenna mast with a giant Crossfire 3 (Radio Shack) antenna on it. It was seated 3 feet in the ground but that made no difference. When the mast was dropped in the early 80's we thought the strikes would stop. They didn't. When the house was doubled in size in the early 90's the majority of the strikes suddenly stopped. One possible reason is that 3 new grounding rods were put down. Another possibility is that when my father and I updated the electrical system in the old part of the house it gave the charges a new route to ground. We changed all the old plug sockets (2 wire - hot, neutral) to the newer post 1974 type (3 wire - hot, neutral, ground) and ran ground wires from each to a cable in the attic. This cable connects with the new grounding rods. The house still gets an occasional strike but nothing even near the 9 or 10 strikes it used to get annually. Where I am is a bit higher in altitude than my parents place, about 40 feet higher and there's near 200 trees here. Designing a good grounding system was a must! My original home at this location was a 1971 Dodge motor home I bought from my parents for $1. Great deal right? Wrong. I got it for that because the roof leaked and the inside was rotted out and had to be rebuilt. That took the better part of a year. I had the metal exterior on it earth grounded. It still got hit several times in the 12 years I lived in it. in 1995 I bought the trailer I have now and completely gutted it. I rebuilt it, installing all new up-to-dated wiring that went beyond code. All the electric appliances, including the water heater, heater and AC are 110. There's nothing that's 220. There's no gas. Strictly all electric. The wiring for the regular outlets (all are rated for 15 amps) and the lights is 3 wire (12-2 with ground). The outlets for the appliances (20 amp minimum) is 3 wire (10-2 with ground). The outlets are all grounded to the service box and the metal exterior of the trailer. The exterior and chassis are earth grounded as well as grounded through the service. The steel overroof is also earth grounded. I installed the large surge protector in 1996 to guard against surges on the outlets and TV cables. I extended this protection in 1999 by installing a 'whole house' suppressor. The computer and it's related components are on their own surpressor which has an unlimited joule rating. The trailer has taken around a dozen lightning strikes in the last 13 years. I have yet to lose anything electrical to lightning damage.
