Here's couple of shots of part of the fence I was working on yesterday. It looks simple. Believe me, it isn't.

Rob, on the whistle signals…
I watched this 4 VHS set on the NYC (1955-1965) and I noticed on the crossing signals it seems they did whatever they wanted to including no whistle until the front coupler was on the crossing.  I’ve driven boats for a living (for 22 years) and there are rules on when I have to sound the horn and how I will sound the horn.  Believe it or not the horn rules are pretty close between boats and locomotives, I was surprised.

Off the topic, but another thing that shocked me was the giant bull horn speakers NYC had on some of their F units.  They said (the movie) before radio the giant bull horn was used to communicate with the yard crews while building trains.

Talk to me...what's happening in your neck of the woods, prairie or desert??

Not much happening here. I just installed a temporary patch on the exhaust pipe of my car, pretty easy to do when you have a nearby ditch handy. I make my own patches. I cut them from tin cans and flatten the corrugation lines.

I just spent $1000 on the O2 sensor issues and new exhaust for my van. Seems to run much better now actually, though I wouldn't know why. Did the 100K tune up a few months ago, but seemed not to make much difference. Now I got brakes, tires and shocks/struts to take care of. Then I should be done for about 6 years I hope! I used-to-could do brakes, but I don't trust myself around these fancy dancy ABS systems. I want them to actually work when I need them in the snow!

I guess when some of us say "our" layout room, we really mean the space we were allowed to use! Hey, I thought we were supposed to rule the roost....

That's right! It has to share the room with storage stuff. 2 years ago when I started this layout the room was half empty. That was then. This is now: you can't hardly even walk into the room, yet we manage to stuff more "crap" and supplies stuffs {Like large pkgs of TP, PAper towels, etc} into it. Anything we don't know what to do with, have no place to put elsewhere goes in that room. I know the layout is in there somewhere....

We don't have a all town clean out day, but I am hoping to get some excess out of there and sold at a yard sale this summer. Maybe sell some train stuff too. {UH, OH NO! NOt That!} The park does provide a large dumpster for summer clean-out/up I may jsut start throwing things to get rid of the things we don;t need....

TMarsh

And on a final note, studies showed, and this upsets many women, that men can burn quite a few calories just sitting in a chair. Since I just ate lunch I think I'll go "work it off".Laugh I wonder if snoring burns even more?

Gonna beat you on that and go take a nap if I can sleep. I wish I could sleep weight off. My Dr. thinks its the meds I am on that are making me "hold on to" and gain weight. Then it will be dinner time yeah!

Talk at y'all later.

Coffee in a large  CSX  mug, please.

***Lee, after wife & I paced a CSX train for a few miles, we discovered instead of the usual long-long-short-long horn, they also use long-long-long and long-long-short-short-long. I wondered if the engineer had been drinking or was talking to someone on a cell phone???

***C.N. Charlie, yes, it's an old DVD player. I'll doctor it up with paint and a few support structures. The player/base will be below the parking/viewing area. Most of the time the movie showing will be "Gone With The Wind", but when any of my relatives visit it will be showing "Motel Hell".Laugh

Wife dragged me out to pick up some more garden plants & stuff. Long afternoon. Going to relax and watch a movie now. Have a good one y'all. Cowboy Rob

Afternoon all, been cleaning out the garage today. Sofar so good. Too bad there's a week before the all town cleanup. They hold it at the same time as the all town garage sale. What ya don't sell, haul it to the village garage. Soooo, there's a pile of junk (trash) in the door of the garage for about a week and the friday, the truck gets loaded so the pre shoppers can get in to buy stuff to re sell (doesn't make sense to me). Ah America. Where else can you put all the junk you don't want in your driveway and people flock around to buy it.

I guess when some of us say "our" layout room, we really mean the space we were allowed to use! Hey, I thought we were supposed to rule the roost. It's time for us men to stand up and.... huh? oh, yes dear. Nevermind.

Laugh Sounds like mine.

That would describe my "layout room". Also affectionately called the "junk room". "storage room", and "black hole messy room" {Things sometimes go in and you can never find them again}.

Tomorrow we will go hunting the gardening shops and see what we find to plant. I be plantin' soon. Not sure what yet besides salad greens, but we will see what we find. I believe something should be edible as well as "purty". Mary-golds are a standard flowers not for consumption as they help keep some pests away. Gotta drain the pond and clean it again before starting pump for waterfall. I hope it works this year as last year it got overloaded with growth from the "franken-mato" behemoth grape tomato plant I grew. SO I unplugged it and hope it recouperates. A new pump is not an expense I will look forward to.

If it's this nice next weekend, I do believe we will saunter on down for our first day this year to visit Steamtown Nat'l Historic Park. Pack some san-miches and chips and H2O in the cooler and head off to Scranton.

I Don't expect to see much happening here today as I 'spect peeps being out and about on this gorgeous day.

See ya'll later...

Garry, That Bowser is/was a kit correct?  I see they still make those, matter of fact I almost bought one last fall.  The Model Railroad Magazine review claims the BlueLine version can pull 68 cars at 0% incline.  I just may put this to the test one day.

There's a trainshow today in Puyallup, but I doubt I'll go. I've got to get the band together for the 8th grade graduation in a month... We get to play a couple songs, so we actually have to practice together... lol.

Other than that, nothin' much is going on, which is why you don't see me post that often.

ERIC: Ya just made my day with the chest/back pain run. Nice to see it rains there too...Whistling

Just remember, every patient is a learning opportunity.

The extrication drill sounds pretty cool. I love butchering Buicks, carving up Chevy's, fileting Fords, demolishing Dodge's... I LOVE running the JAWS. You are correct about life inside the car. I've been the guy inside holding C-spine (would rather have been outside on the tool), and it is just plain NOISY! The worst one though, was when Loving Wife hit a patch of black ice on I-380 and took a wild ride in her '88 Ford Bronco II. I was first on-scene, and was assessing her/holding C-spine. Center Point Fire showed up, let me stay in with her, and proceeded to make a convertible out of the vehicle so we could get her out. One key thing for the inside guy: you can pass vital information out to the toolman.

Did I mention, I love running the JAWS????Mischief

Have a Safe day...

Hello....

Just checking in. We're in Cincinnati area. Son's cabinet business is doing very well. He specializies in high quality garage cabinets that he makes himself.  His customers tend to be wealthy people. They have fancy garages for their classic car collections. Prsently, he is subcontracting with a small company that customizes busses. There is a bus now parked on his property that will end up with a plush interior as good as any private jet. Son is building all the fine quality wood interior. Amazing bus! ...... We just loaded my truck with scrap wood suitable for benchwork on my layout. That's the best part.

Lee... I'm impressed with the Pennsy T1's, too. Mine is a Boweser. Engine and tender weight 5 pounds. With 2 motors, it will pull any train I put on it. I don't know how many cars it will pull because I never put that many on a train.

Cheers everybody.

Jeff, Unfortunately, I was too "old" to be a firefighter, the max 'joining' age is 45, I was 47 at the time. Of course there are guys who have been members for over 40 years and are over 60 years old. I am on the Fire Police but I usually answer with the FA as EMT.  However, since I'm the vehicle mech. for the town I have used the equipment.   You can't maintain it if you don't know how it worksWink  Roof roll backs are fun.  I have participated in drills using borrowed gear as a backup team member. The newbies are suprised how little support a roof gives once you cut those 'A' pillars and throw that fiberglass pike pole across the roof and fold the top over. A new problem is cars with airbag 'curtains' in the headliner along the doors.  We have to look first...
I'm not sure what the age limitation is here on the paid depts. On the volunteer depts it's 65 or 70, can't quite remember which. One of the depts here has an active fire fighter who will be celebrating his 80th birthday this year. I agree with your comment on the airbag problem. Many of the depts here use a tool that looks somewhat like a pike pole except that it has no point on the end, just a somewhat longer hook. The person using it just stands outside the vehicle holding the tool so the turned back point of the hook is against the airbag cover and gives a sharp yank. The tool pierces the cover and punctures the airbag.

Good Morning All,

I'm feeling a little peckish this morning Chloe so could I please have an order of scrambled eggs, whole wheat toast and a very large mug of very dark coffee. Busy place I see this morning but I don't mind waiting, just bring the coffee asap please.

Rob, I was looking back at the post of your wife's layout specifically the drive-in and am I correct? Is that a little DVD player that you will use for the screen and run real movies? If so that is truly inspired! Good thing I don't have space or my wife would want one on my layout too!

Speaking of layout, do you just spend a lot of time staring at it? I know I sometimes do. My wife asks me if I'm alright as in " Hope he hasn't lost his marbles" but I really am thinking about it. I now do my staring in the morning while I'm waiting for the heater to heat up the basement bathroom. All the staring though hasn't produced any more space for some trackside buildings or space for a few more town buildings. I do think I found a spot for one more small store.

I placed an order with Klein's and I now feel suddenly more tranquil. Is that a sign of a problem?

They changed the weather forecast again for the week-end we are now in and it is supposed to get up to 50F the next few days with cloud and wind. Right now it is 40F so I don't think much yard work will happen.

I see my eggs are up so I'll just slip into a booth and watch the trains.

Finished putting rails on the carfloat and primed it. There is a sight breeze outside but ok for spraying.

Good morning, Chloe.  I will have my usual coffee and cinnamon roll, please.  This will be a short weekend, so short projects around the house.

JimRCGMO

Sue, I'm sure you were more than ready to get out and riding again. I think it's been a (lonnnngggg) while since your roads were clear enough, hasn't it been? How's your water pouring coming along?

Yes,  dry roads are welcome.  When you pour 1/8th inch of water at time, it doesn't change much.  I am on pour number 10 since the fascia, and it is finally starting to  show change.  I tinted the liquid with railroad tie brown, but switched to clear for the last 4 pours.  It is starting to show some depth now.  How is your layout coming?

Sue

We would have done the roof but it was getting late.

I've always thought the most fun part of using the jaws was doing what our chief describes as 'the rolling back of the top of the sardine can'.

Mornin' everyone!

Well, Summer has arrived!  Already way too hot for my liking.  Currently 75°F and will be over 80°F by noon.  Going to be mostly today.  Sunny that is.

Looks like I started something as I see at least one neighbor out mowing his yard........Whistling

I have a short recording to do this afternoon so I have to get some equipment out and ready for her.  I also have one of my former Scouts coming over to take the old lawn mower to his mom who bought it yesterday.

Zoe, I'll have what seems to popular this morning, a short stack of pancakes and a side of sausage to go along with a very large pot of dark roast in a FGLK Mug!

See you later!

Good Morning!  Chloe, French toast, bacon and a decaf please!

So far behind!!!!

Expecting warm temps next 2 days 75-80.  Today I'll enjoy it, tomorrow, the yard hopefully.  The tree pollen is very high.....AAACHOOO!!!!!! snuff, sniff... sorry, excuse me.

Barry, I like that.... "nest of chaos".  Can I use it?  It's not a copyrighted expression is it? (can't be too careful!)

Had our FD extrication drill Thurs night.  FA had 5 members show up so it was a good deal.  2 of the members had never been in a car while it is being cut up.  Soooo...one was the entrapped driver, the other the resucer.  Observation.. "It's noisy and scary as h**l!  Between the breaking glass and the doors being pried open!"  We told them it gets better when the patient is screaming (when they're conscious) at the top of their lungs to get them out. A dash push was later demonstrated.  We would have done the roof but it was getting late.  A bigger drill will be done in the summer.  We get several vehicles and make a crash scene with DPW's help.  Roll over w/ entrapment etc.

Chris, you'll appreciate this one;  Last night call... "83 year old female, severe constant chest and lower back pain, possible cardiac."  First Responder EMT dispatched along with Paramedics and Squad with 3 EMTs.  Medics evaluate pt; "my chest hurts when I cough" turns out pt was diagnosed with probable pneumonia 3 day earlier and signed herself out "I didn't like being in the hospital".... Oh yeah, model railroading.....hmmm.  Well, the tracks are glued to the deck.  I need to put some exrta parts on then prime it. Good day for that. The building is waiting for the window and glass installers to settle their contract dispute.... Still haven't got the pink foam.  Just haven't had time!!!

Good morning all,

Yesterday we beat Miami, FL for the high temperature of 85F.  Today it looks like more of the same weather.  Hard to believe it was only 39F three days ago! I see www.Factorydirecttrains.com has two BlueLine Mikado’s DC/DCC ready with sound for $250, that’s 2 locomotives for $250. Not a bad deal but I’m going to need to wait for a while before any more locomotive purchases.

A nice and WARM day.  The high will be around 85!!!

Well  I've been doing some weathering, and I need to move some cars around on the layout.  It hasn't been touched in awhile.

Jim, my hours have been cut AGAIN.  I don't understand why they would send me to work for the same company when I was "laid off from" in the first place.  That doesn't make much since to me.  Thats fine, I will keep hunting for a job.

Well everybody, its breakfast time.  I will take some pancakes, and milk.

Everybody have a good day!!

Hello---We seem to be having one of those days that gets nice and warm, only to decide to go into another raining kind of day things. We're at 19C going to a high of 24C being sunny right now but thunderboomers and just plain ol' rain for the afternoon/evening through to tomorrow.

Going to get some more storage type bins for all the bits/pieces I've got flapping around in the trainroom---also known in the house as disaster area, clutter haven and "nest of chaos". The last from Audrey.Whistling

Mornin' Coffee, coffee, coffee. Now she wants the freezer in the garage. Always changing her mind. I don't know how anyone can survive that way! Choose a plan and go with it!Grumpy

In MRR news I decided not to go with the original plan for the abandoned mine and use the space for my cattle lot.

 Good morning.

It's 71 and cloudy. The high will be in the mid 80's and it will be partly cloudy with a small chance of thunderstorms.

Yesterday I was busy putting up the fence that goes around most of the Shell station property. It proved to me just how patient I can be at times as the fence demonstrated a propensity to lay down on the job in sections and as a whole. Finally I got it to stand by sticking satin pins down on each side of it. Once it was standing I was able to glue it into position. Today I'll take the pins out. Now folks stopping at the Shell station will settle for the ice cream sold there instead of running over to the Freezee ice cream stand on the other side of the track.
