I have a prototypical train question for the group;

Would this be a correct statement?

An east bound Berkshire pulls a 30 car train from Airline yard to Fox Creek yard, a distance of 98 miles (a flat straight route).

The locomotive and crew turns the locomotive at Fox Creek then picks up a west bound freight and returns to Airline yard.

It looks like its goin to be a rainy day.  Suppose to rain all day, Dead.

Well I guess I will go back into the basement and work on the bulkhead some more.

Got some places to go this afternoon.  One place is the LHS.   I need some smaller wood for the load.

Jeff, good looking engine house.  Weather that roof up some, and that will make it look really used.  Now you said you finished it this morning?  What time did you get up?  2:00am Mischief

Well everybody, have a good day.

Good morning.

Here's another nomination for a steam locomotive. This one goes in the small steamer catagory. It is the Burlington Prairies type (2-6-2). This is one of the photos of my new branch line baggage/mail car that I posted in WPF.

Of course, the most practical type for model railroading is the 0-5-0 Big Smile

Large UNION PACIFIC mug of coffee, please & thanks.

***Lee, wife left for town a bit of go for groceries and will pick up the parcel at the PO. Unless we meet the mailman at the box, he just leaves us one of those green slips. Don't worry, I'll send you a check. Having so few sales, my Paypal account is about shot.

It seemed everytime I fell asleep last night, wife was waking me up to help pick her dad off the floor. He is as impulsive as he was when we rescued him from the nursing home (to rebah him) the first time. Sadly, right now his legs aren't working well enough so he crashes. I'm already to catch a freight train to anywhere else. Or stick the MIL on the tracks. She's NUTS!Grumpy That old phrase they make you say, "For better or worse"....it's worse.Mischief

Tired or not, need to go do farm chores as soon as wife returns from store. Too tired to do anything in the train room. Oh well.

Hope everyone else is doing well today.

Mornin'...... er.....Afternoon everyone!

I guess the morning snuck away on me, just getting for my mornin' coffee and chat.  Flo, I'll have a large butter rum muffin and a bottomless cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug.

Currently 58*F and sprinkling outside.  They are predicting around 3/4" of liquid sunshine here today........

I finally finished writing thank you notes to all those who helped with the LSD Spring Meet a couple weekends ago.  List includes the clinicians, those who had their layouts on display, and several members that saw to helping with registration, coffee, etc. At the meet, a MMR who has become a good friend in the hobby tucked a couple of packages in my pocket, grinned and then winked at me.  The results will be posted on the WPF thread.........

Ouch!

Barry, it looks on the schedule that the train show will only be open at the Woodstock Convention on Sunday.  If that is so, I may or may not be able to get to it as I am going to the convention with a friend.  I don't know what time he will need to be back home on Sunday.  The annual meeting (mandatory for me) is scheduled for 8:30 in the morning that day.  Hopefully it will be over in time for us to get a quick look at the show before we head home.  Let me know which booth yu will be at and I will try to stop in and meet you.

Speaking of the show, I am going to buy some lighting equipment (that I have had on my list of wants) this afternoon.  I plan on getting a few photos of the layout ready to enter in the Photo Contest at the Convention.

Hope everyone has a great day.

During lunch I looked through the NMRA web site and found my answer.

Did you know “High Speed Freight” is defined at 60+ MPH?

Wind picked up to GALE force and the temp dropped 20 degrees since this morning!

Afternoon everybody!

Robby P.

Lee, keep your gale force winds in OHIO!!  We are getting them now.  Approve

Looks like the Finger Lakes is in for the tail end of some of that.  We have a wind advisory here for tonight.  Talking just 20 to 30 MPH winds.  Not a big thing.

I had an interesting afternoon..........  Decided to pop over to the camera shop two towns over in Seneca Falls.  This is owned by a guy in his 80's who is another one of those crusty, tell it like it is, grumpy old codgers (reminds me of my FIL - probably why I enjoy the guy).  I walk in and the owner is checking out a customer.  So the employee in the back asks if he can help me.  I tell him I'm looking for a lighting fixture and umbrella for model photography.  He looks at me and says, "Oh you're the guy!"  I told him I had spoken with the owner a few months ago.  He tells me I'll have to talk to the Boss.  So, I wait for a couple of minutes and as the customer is packing up his purchase I tell the owner what I'm looking for and show him a couple photos of the Yard at Hopewell as an example of what I am going to photograph.  He looks at me and says, "You're (expletive deleted) out of luck.  I don't have any more used in the store and I don't carry new ones."  So I ask if knows where I might get one, He points me in the direction of the pro photographer (customer) and hands my pictures to him.  The guy looks at the photos and says, "Wow!"  Then chatted for a few minutes and advised me to check a couple on-line stores.  I thanked him and went on my way.

When I got back to Geneva I remembered that I had to pick up dinner invitations for the MLK Scholarship Dinner at a local printer.  Since a friend of mine who is one of the of the best photographers in this part of the country has his shop just a few doors down from the printer, I decided to stop and see if he was free to give me advise as to what I should get.  He was with a client but the receptionist said I could wait.  I told her I would be back in a couple minutes after picking up the invites.  Get down to that shop and mentioned to the printer where I had been and he wanted to see the photos.  He takes one look and calls to an older gentleman (His Father or FIL) who works there.  He happens to love railroading and going to model shows.  He went nuts and wanted to know if there were any local shows......  A half hour later I pry myself loose and go back to the photography studio.  Niel was free and loved the photos.  He then proceeded to ask me 20 questions on how I made the photo and marveled at the detail of the yard. Then he took me into the back to the actual studio and to where he does the prints grabs some catalogs and we started looking for stuff.  Niel is a member of my church and was a committeeman in my Boy Scout Troop for several years as well.  He has given me some great advise on photography over the years.  I consider myself to be a rank amateur at photography.  By his reaction to my photos I have to say it was the best compliment I have ever gotten........  And, they do matting of photos right there at his studio.  He has a man who does that full time and will do them very quickly for me.  BTW, here is a page that has an award winning photo by Niel:  http://www.neilsjoblom.com/awards_oscar.php

May all of you have this good a day!

Hi guys,

Perhaps you have heard all over the news today:

Being a resident of the Binghamton,NY area, EXTRA PRAYER CANDLES ARE LIT for the 13 innocent victims shot to death and for the soul of the alleged perpetrator's apparent suicide and the 5 critically injured in a wild gun slinging rampage today on  the students seeking to become American Citizens at the American Civic Association building today in our "quiet little city" in Upstate NY...

The van repairs came in slightly under the $1028.00 mentioned earlier to a cool $979.00. Thats for the O2 sensors, installation, computer diagnostic testing and new exhaust system. Now all I need now is at least two new tires and will soon need new brakes. *alas*

The painful expression on my face at the time of payment and pick-up: Still priceless.

Evening Gang:

Rob I have two air compressor tanks in the gondola just behind the tender. These I charge up from an air compressor. I have an air line running to the blow down valve of the locomotive. When I'm ready to run I open the blow down valve and the air fills the boiler. After that everything is like running on steam. Open the cylinder drain cocks and put the Johnson bar in forward or reverse, and open the throttle. the only thing is that the compressed air dosen't have near the power that the steam does. I can make two and sometimes three runs down and back up the 110ft of track.

Well today was spent hauling the steam locomotive and narrow gauge cars out to Clark Gardens and getting them on the track and ready for tomorrow. Right now I need to get to bed since tomorrow is a 4am wake up.

Good Night All

Good Evening, Chloe - just a brief stop in tonight, so I'll have a go cup of the hot chocolate, please. Thanks! Wow!! How many pies did they put on my tab last night?

Jeff and CN Charlie, I thought that enginehouse looked familiar to me - I think Walthers patterned theirs after the Pola one (which I have). The Pola has the same type of window and brick design and the circular spoked window over the two doors - but the Pola only comes with the front doors available - back end is walled up with just windows. Other difference is, the Pola has squared off exhaust stacks (with deflector/raincaps) on top, instead of the stovepipe-type ones that Walthers has. Nice enginehouse. Thumbs Up

Jeff, where'd you get that G&D car? Someone making a commemorative, or what? Photos when you're done, please.

Galaxy, I don't know if I'd say 'priceless', though I definitely believe the 'pain' part of that. Hope that van runs super-duper-fine now!

My condolences and prayers for the families of the shooting (and those who were in the building when it happened but survived, as they will have their own wounds to heal).AngelAngel

Rob, in the words of Mickey D. "You deserve a break today, so get out and get away..."  Not sure how (you and) Barbara manage to keep up your energy, with those two around. Can they catch a ride with the SIL? Can you sneak them into the back of the car when SIL's not looking?

I'll get going for now - laundry in the morning, and MRR'ing projects after that, I hope!

Blessings and Prayers,
