A strong coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks.
Have a few things to do here before those severe storms roll in tonight.
Have a good day y'all. Rob
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, since Rob has Top Honors this morning, I'll have a breakfast Burrito and a bottomless cup of dark roast java in a UP Mug.
The South Land does look like it is in for a bit of "Stormy Weather" (sung in my finest Baritone Voice) today. Hope ya'all stay safe and dry.

I have a few things that have to get done including moving a couple more pick up loads of Maple from across town to the split pile. Already working on fuel for next winter.
Have a great one!

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Nearly lunchtime here, so I'll have the special, whatever that is!
Jeff: sorry to hear of your loss, our prayers are with you and the family.
Bob: From one islander (Sober Island, Nova Scotia) to another, Eric summed up the atmoshpere very well, and yes, you can take your shoes off as Jeff suggested. We don't have a "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service" policy here (Unlike the B.C.Ferries ) does your island have a fixed link? We have a bridge all of 100 yards long! How would you respond to an name to distinguish from other Diner Bob's? GIBob? No biggie, just a thought. This layout you're planning - steam? deisel? Scale? Enquiring minds need to know. (haven't read all of page 3 yet, you may have answered that by now!
Ray:
Now it really is lunch time, and so I'm virtually done! TTFN.

Hey, it's lunchtime! Zoe, I'll have a bowl of chilli with cheese and crackers, a grilled cheese sandwich, and a RBF, please 'n' thanks!
pcarrellI don't know about you all, but I think I'm going to have a talk with God about this weather. Lately, the only time it gets in the 60's and 70's is when it rains. When the sun is out, it's in the 30's and 40's. Kinda backwards, don't cha think? Now mind you, we haven't seen snow for a bit, so I'm good there (though the weather guesser said we might see some Monday night! BTW, Monday will be dry and 40 degrees.....point in case!). It's just that, see, I'd like to ride my bike in something other then 47 layers of clothes for a change. I know He'll warm it up eventually, but it's just so hard waiting for eventually!
PC, I give you the words of a song: "Careful what you wish for, 'cause you just might get it all" Shall I quote you back to yourself in August when it's 90+ F and 90 percent humidity and we have all that warmth you want? Oh, thanks for mentioning - it's good to know that I'm not the only imperfect one!
Bob K., good to see you back in, and great to see your club's layout. Good to hear the family's doing well. That was pretty strange about that one car 'ejecting' itself from the train (and the train closing ranks and continuing on). Was it something it said? Oh, and about those bay window cabeese, I think we'd need several of those for all the crew at lunchtime in the Diner.
Some nice photos of the big black beauties by you Diners in the past couple of pages here. Thanks!
Alrighty - now we're getting weathering tips from two Diners who are good at it - go Robby, go Bob K.! [whistles, shouts, decides not to climb up on the table - after seeing Zoe's disppproving look..."More photos!"]
Jeff, Rob - and our other Southern Diners - watch yourselves today; we're supposed to have a slight risk of severe weather today up here in SE Missouri, but it looked like the Southeastern US might be in for it this afternoon.
Jeff, thanks for the photo of the city hall. I don't think I'd seen that building at all before.
Bob (ColesDad) - that's how we get sucked into the (fine) hobby! I got my grandson a wooden push train set for when he's a bit bigger (we'll be celebrating Drew's 1st birthday on Sunday, though it's actually going to be Monday for the actual day).
Ah, lunch is here - time to chow down!
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Coffee refill, please & thanks.
***Ray, nice pics. That cool old blue truck isn't yours, is it?
Real gusty winds here today, but so far all the storms are south of us. We're in the northwest corner of Georgia. Looks like the overnight could be interesting.
Wife returned home. She said her dad looks like "The Joker" from the latest batman movie. He said many odd things during the night, like counting 30 horses in the apt, etc... Crazy MIL doesn't help matters, but I won't get into that here.
I'll be in the corner booth drinking this coffee, trying not to doze off. Any trains scheduled to pass by here?
Rob

Hey Jim, you mean something more like this?
Pic shot in Boone, Iowa. March, 1991.
Good afternoon all, I think instead of lunch, I'll just crawl into a back booth and have a little nap. Felt like something that fell outta the back end of Rerun this morning when I got up...been feeling "off" ever since. With the recent wild swings in temperature, I'm betting I've managed to brew up a nice little spring cold.
Yippee.
No meeting with THAT editor tomorrow, but I do have a toddlers' Easter egg hunt to shoot, and a business feature interview afterwards.
Good grief. I've got SNOW falling.
Yep...a little hibernation for this afternoon. THAT last school board article can wait until....later.

Heaven's no! I was riding the train that day........ I had a whole pile of old photos from when the Boy Scout Troop went to Steamtown back in 2001 (I think) that I can't find. The only ones i still have are a couple I use for wallpaper on the Mac.
Gonna finish lunch and get back to hauling wood. Got a pickup load this morning and I have about half a load left to get out of the guys back lawn today. He is busy doing that outside yard w**k that I do my best to avoid.......
See you later!

Homus/Barry, ain't #3254 at Steamtown a beauty? A fantastic machine! I've gone on the locomotive cab ride with her! Can't wait till some better weather to go see them play with her again.
Well got the van in for her exhaust repair. Turns out the "service engine soon" light was on because of a bad computer. AND it just so happens to be a CA Emissions Stand vehicle {I bought it in NY} which means not just any old computer will do. MUST be a CA emissions computer. They are trying to find a used one for around $400-$500 instead of a new $800.00 one. The muffler STILL needs to be done, though...that's another $500-$600. That will have to still wait, maybe next month or two. I tell ya, if it's not one thing it's another. I think by now I have paid for her twice.
Packers#1 Well, it was raining when I woke up, and kept raining till maybe 5 pm. I went running in the rain, which I love doing.
Well, Sawyer, I'm glad somebody enjoys the rain. Being severely asthmatic, I cannot breathe well in humid conditions, cold or hot. It was a "beautieous" day here today, but tomorrow we get rain. I only like rain to water my garden so I don't have to! Speaking of gardens....I'm getting me some itching to garden.... soon, grasshopper {self}, soon....
Everyone have a great evening....be thankful for what you HAVE got!

Well, today there wasn't so much humidity, thank the lord. I'm going to run in the summer, but I tihnk I'll set my alarm early so i can go out before the humidity and sun get cranking
Well I've been in the basement most of the day. I still need to work on the underneath, and the load. I think the wood is to BIG.
So here's a few shots of the bulkhead car.
"Rust, whats not to love?"
Good Evening, Diners, Chloe. Chloe, I'd like the grilled salmon steak, aspargus, side salad with Italian dressing, and a nice glass of wine, please. Thanks! And I think I might have the TOP, so better start taking the other Diners' orders, and put them on my tab. Oh well, payday's coming up next week...
PackerGarry, is it okay to feel sympathetic (sp?) for the Ferrari? Anyone with half a brain should no they aren't for off-roading.
Yep, Vincent and Gary - but apparently THAT half of his brain was good 'n' pickled! I think the officer at the end said it well: "This is an example of why it's not a good idea to drink and drive." (loosely quoted there). Wonder what the guy thought when he sobered up and he realizes what he did? , maybe?
Sawyer, so long as there aren't any storms or lightning in your area (or even close).
Robby, another excellent job - is that the Walthers Gold Line bulkhead car? I got one (NATX? I think) recently, but discovered it is newer than my RR's era (barcodes, 1970's date on it, etc.). But as nice as you make that thing look, it's awfully tempting to just keep it and weather the heck out of it (Maybe I could put rust spots over the barcodes? AND the build date? Well, maybe not).
I'm 'playing hookey' from choir practice tonight; got away from the 'w' thing a bit late, and as I look up after dinner at home, it's almost time to be at practice - about 5 minutes before - and I don't have the dishes washed (or even rinsed) yet. Plus, the next practice next week, I'm on-call, so likely would get called out before getting through that last practice. So I'll just sit in the congregation instead of being up front like last year, I think, and be one of the 'troops'.
Time to kick back and see how yummy this salmon is.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim, its a Walthers Goldline. Very nice details on it. I still got a BIG list yet to do on the car, before ite even ready .
JimRCGMOSawyer, so long as there aren't any storms or lightning in your area (or even close).
It was actually thundering/lightning this morning, but that was long gone by the afternoon. I was going to run this weekend, but there was sporadic thunder, so decided not to.

Evening Gang: Boy I don't stop in for a few days and they move the place again. I thought I heard the H-10-44 from the Beer Line fire up the other day.
I've been busy to say the least. Unfortunately none of it was MRR related. Today i hauled the compressor and air tanks out to Clark Gardens for the train show. I use compressed air to run my sream locomotive. There insurance say no to steaming it up. We also got the track assembled and ballasted with the help of a coupleo fthe guys that work there. Tomorrow my son John and I will load up the locomotive and cars and haul them out. The show is this weekend.
Next week I'm going to order some of the new Michigan ore cars from Walthers. I've been searching the train shows for the MDC taper side ore cars and now I will be able to get some really good taper side cars.
My cough has decieded to cut in again so I'd better go and get a cough drop.
Good Night All
Hot cocoa, please.
***Paul, does the compressed air still fill the boiler tank or somehow bypass it? Please explain how that works? Rather cool that you have the option, even if steam is the prefered way to go.
Well, wife & I had to go rescue FIL, as he fell again and nobody seemed to be able to (or willing to) help him up. Ended up just bringing them both back here to the farm for the weekend. (this means I WILL find something to do down in the train room, as I can only handle being around MIL for short periods ) FIL looks like he's been hit by a runaway boxcar and now one of his knees doesn't seem to work, poor fella. He has my sympathy for 2 reasons.
We're under a tornado watch and the usual wind advisory. Going to go drain some additional water from the holding tank because there is plenty of rain still to come tonight.
Going to unplug puter soon and call it a night. Very tired.
Healing thoughts to those in need.

Barry, Steamtown is a must visit if you get State side. Check here for info: Steamtown BTW are you gong to the Woodstock Turn convention (NFR NMRA), April 17 - 19? I will traveling up there for it. It will be the first time I have been in Canada in several years. I am looking forward to it!
Rob it sounds like your FIL has had a bad week. At least you have a reason to go hide out in the train room. Would you like to borrow my "Employees Only" sign to keep MIL out???
Zoe, any of that Pecan Pie left or did somebody throw them all? OK I'll have a nice big slice and a cup of decafe.

My sister lives in Woodstock so I'm going to be there--between her stuffing the Kilns she has with her stuff getting ready for showing in a couple of weeks/ the Turn and the train show at the fairgrounds on that Sunday PLUS a flea market thing I'm doing with a buddy of mine----definitely going to be busy--heeheehee---I'll show you my favourite train spot--the footbridge over the CN main---

Good Evening Diners!
Still have snow up here, in fact I called up the elves to do the drive as they thought they were off duty March 31 and it was snowing on that day. Being good elves they were here within the hour and the drive was done by the time I got home.
Ray, great photos of that Mike. I see it is ex-CN so I looked it up. It's an S-1-b built in 1917 by CLC in Kingston,Ont. CN liked their Mikes and had around 500 of them. I have some video of one hauling a passenger train so using it for that at Steamtown is prototypical. I see it's a coal burner so it must have come from eastern Canada as virtually all steam in the west was oil fired by the late '50s.
Jeff, sorry to hear about your uncle. I too have a Walthers engine house on my layout. It's a good looking structure.
Well I guess I fried the decoder I put into my IHC Sante Fe as a short shows as soon as the power goes on and the DCC screen is blank. I can't see where any wires are touching the frame and I checked closely. Oh well I'm a lot better at soldering now and it's amazing how a problem can make you overcome any reluctance to take something apart. I guess I'll get another decoder and try again but I think I'll put it in the tender rather than trying to cram a N scale one by the motor. It will mean wires to the tender but I think it will be easier to install and hopefully it will work.
Nearly time for Spooks or MI5 as it's called on TV here. See you soon,
CN Charlie
Tall glass of cool lemon water, thanks.
***Ray, thanks for the offer but no need. The train room is only accessible from either going outside (she won't do during storms) or walking down steps through my dungeon (workshop) with a duck-under beam...."let's leave that option open for her".
Good night all.
Good evening,
After a completely un-productive day, I finally managed to hammer-out one last school board meeting article for THAT editor. She should have plenty to pick from for the next two issues (8th and 15th). The next board meeting is on the 15th, so it's crap will start showing up on newsprint the 22nd.
Rain, snow, whatever, seems to have stopped. GREAT here tomorrow, allegedly, with highs in the 50s and sunshine. Good thing. Sunday, it all goes down the tubes with rain, sleet, freezing rain, snow, God only knows what-else. The only good thing about snow here this time of the year: it don't hang around for very long.
ROB: sorry to hear of your ongoing troubles with the FIL and MIL. That's the scenario I keep bracing for, and trying to prepare for. Not being in any position to offer any kind of advice, I'll just wish you and all concerned the very best of luck. It sounds like you guys are gonna need it.
With all the recent talk about steam engines, I've finally decided to add in on it. I don't particularly have a favorite steamer. I've seen a lot of photos of CB&Q, UP, and CNW steamers... nothing really "grabbed me."
I saw the UP 844 roll through in '96, and the UP 3985 in 2002. The 844 stopped for a public look-see at Beverly Yard, where I got these:
Enjoy...and Good Night...
Good evening.....
I'm glad to say I completed my model of a CB&Q branch line baggage car. The prototype is a short heavyweight car built in 1910. I'm pleased with my new model.
Rob... You and your wife deserve high praise for caring for your MIL and your FIL. I suspect other diners feel the same way. Looking after family members who need assistance can be challenging, but you will gain the satisfaction of knowing you did the right thing with a tough situation. Hang in there, and prayers for your family.
Chris .... several of us are giving Duke some tough competition for his PM Berk such as the UP 4-8-4..
That thing I posted earlier about the Ferrari and the train got my attention partly because my friend in Paducah is a Ferrari nut. He's the only guy I know in western KY who has one. I do hope the drunk pays much more than the cost of the Ferrari. Drunk drivers should be in prison.
so, I'm gone for 3 days and the doors are locked. who forgot to pay the least ???
I have no hope, intention, or motivation of catching up on the past 15 pages (X and XI), so I'm just gonna wing it from here. I'll join Sue for my favourite coffee and a cinnimon bun. now ...
- tim horton's travel mug (with a lid), Hudson Locomotive (sentimental memories) or BigBoy (still referring to locomotives), CP Rail maroon paint, working on the benchwork/ trackplans for CASTAWAY Railroad (rail cars to have a green and blue land/water paint scheme - same as Vancouver Canucks hockey jerseys), hot sauce is great, teryaki is better (like high-end catsup)
I probably missed a ton of stuff... so what! the coffee, food and atmosphere are great
Be Good
