Well, some of you may have noticed I was not around a lot yesterday.  Seems there was this motorcycle swap meet in Indianapolis, and I decided I'd best go do my civic duty and support the economy.  I found some really cool stuff!

Check out these pics!

I needed a new leather, so.......I found this one made out of very heavy weatherproof leather (thats soft as butter) with a zip out quilted thinsulate liner and mesh inner liner.  It has zippered cuffs, lots of pockets, an extended kidney pad, and it's even vented front and rear.  At $140 I couldn't get it off the rack fast enough!

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Drifter/IMG_0609-1.jpg

So then the guy says he's got a few vests that might fit me if I'm interested.  He shows me a bunch of them, and I find this leather with thinsulate lined vest with inside and outside pockets, and beautiful buffalo head nickle snaps.  He'll let that go for $65, he says.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Drifter/IMG_0607-1.jpg

So now I've got my four season upper body done (except gloves).  I'm going to meet him next week and he's going to hook up my wife and I'm probably going to get some chaps.......and maybe some gauntlet gloves.

So then I'm tooling around the meet, and I spot a few items of interest.  This guy has some NOS Indian motorcycle parts......and they're dirt cheap!  All wrapped up and still in boxes!

I picked up a 1953 Indian Chief dealer option chrome tool box, a beautiful fender light, 4 bullet tipped bolts (for my license plate), and this chrome box (more on that later).

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Drifter/IMG_0632.jpg

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Drifter/IMG_0616.jpg

The fender light goes on the front fender and the face lights up.  Very classic art deco!

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Drifter/IMG_0622-1.jpg

Now, about that box..........I thought it was a really cool piece, but I couldn't quite figure out what it was for.  Wanna take a stab at it?  You try and guess........

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Drifter/IMG_0613.jpg

The guy let me look at it a bit, and then he says, "Give up?"  "Sure", I said.  He then tells me it's actually a Harley Davidson piece from the 40's and 50's.  The two clips hold a couple of spark plugs!

After talking him down a bit it worked out that I got the whole lot for $100.  That means that I basically got the cool box for free!

I don't know what I'm going to do with the box yet, but it was just way too cool to pass up!

So anyways, that was my afternoon yesterday!

 Good Morning

Just checking in before we head to town.  We are hoping to get our errands done early so we have time for a scooter ride.

Later,

Good morning.

It's 65, cloudy and wet. It looks as though the high will be in the upper 70's and it will be partly cloudy.

Between power outages and tending to family needs I didn't get anything accomplished on the layout yesterday. The storm, while bad, wasn't quite as bad as the one of the previous day. Went out to dinner last night with my mother, sister and niece at the local steak house. At one point we thought we would have to leave there and get something to eat at home as the power all over that end of town went out. The outage lasted only a couple of minutes however and we continued our evening out. I had an 8 ounce sirloin and a 1/2 rack of BBQ ribs with small side salad which I enjoyed tremendously. The trip back home was relatively uneventful with the exception of the wind whipping through the trees and strewing limbs and leaves all over. I can just imagine the mess I'll be seeing upon the break of day.

Whistling

Wow !!!! A guy goes away for a couple of weeks and I can hardly find the front door.

You fellas and gals have written so much it will take me a couple of months to catch up.

Spent the last two weeks in Spokane Wa. helping my son really get his house in tip-top shape and ready to show and sell.

I did manage some LHS stops and gathered up about $350.00 worth of goodies. I must be in the good books as my wife

never said a thing about it   I got a couple of great videos on the Western Pacific that I had been looking for.. A Walthers, beer can car for corn sugar, that will make frequent stops at my "Smuckers Plant".  A Walthers, Thrall door box for the "Spokane Mouding Company"  Rumors has it that they were one of the big pushes behind building these cars and I was told out there that they were the first to use them.  Then some "grain of wheat bulbs".  some dry transfers, three bottles of Model Master glue, that I haven't been able to find in my area. a few little people,  and five of the new 1/87 model cars that "Hot Wheels" are putting out. Got them at Wally's World for about $3.00 bucks each. A set of A.I.M. weathering powders and a bunch of of odds and ends that are always needed.  Pretty good haul Huh ???  Thumbs Up

Driving home today from Great Falls, Mt. where we spent the night last night,  just south of Havre, Mt. on a single line track there was 13 miles of empty well cars parked. All were TTX  or DTTX, no other road names at all.  I thought that was pretty strange as there are no real needs in that area for containers of that number, and why just TTX & DTTX ???

Jeff, I am proud of you, I am a big booster of "Preparedness Kits"  I keep our stuff in a couple of large Rubbermaid tubs that I could just grab as I went out the door in case we had to evacuate, along with several 5 gal. water jugs.  I actually have 1070 Gals of water in storage that is capable of being used. Right now it is in my Thermal Storage unit which is part of my heating system for the house.

I feel I have lots more to tell here, but I am quite pooped after these last two weeks and the long drive. In all our travels there and back and all the booting around while there we put on close to 2000 miles.

Off to ZZZ-land.     Zzz                                   Probably will check back in on Monday.

Johnboy out...................

The "Wobbly" has not moved in a while.............

We have met the enemy,  and he is us............ (Pogo)

Chocolate marshmallow icecream, please.

Been busy in here. Won't even try to catch up. Rather tired tonight.

Spent a little time in the train room today. Took a couple locos out on the two meandering loops and all went smoothly. Nothing is glued down yet and I still need to place a couple bridges. Have about decided to skip trestles all together. Small N scale trestles don't impress me enough and the larger ones would take me forever to build. Perhaps I'm a bit lazy and/or impatient. I'll settle for one or two natural rock bridges instead (stop laughing) and the couple unitrack bridges I already have. Gotta admit, it was really nice just to see a pair of locos making their way around those loops.

Have a good night all.

The storms here aren't as bad as they were last night but they're just as wet and windy. The wind is really whipping the trees around. The white caps out on the lake are running high. Anybody out there is a pure D certified nut! We have gusts running from 20 to 40 mph.

Good evening Diner Denizens!  For those holding to the old Calendar, Happy Easter tomorrow! Cool A really good day today.  Weather was Spring-like for the 1st Annual Sober Island Road Clean Up in the morning. Got back from that in time to clean up self and get lunch ready for my New Brunswick mrr visitor. He cut me some slack as to ETA by going to the Halifax LHS before setting out for here.  Kris had her Arts Association Demo Day (20 Artists / Crafters doing their thing) all morning and half the afternoon. So I was on point for the culinary as well as the mrr stuff.

This visit has spurred me into doing at least a dozen jobs/projects that I was going to get to "some-time".  One I fixed a week or three back, the rest were pretty much all crammed into the last 7-8 days.

  • Sky hook to lift the sagging cantilevered edge of the mid-level loop.
  • Car repair shop I've shown you already.
  • Change out Rapidos for Micro-Trains knuckle couplers on 2 Passenger coaches from the train show on the 4th. Not worth a photo.
  • Put in a removable view block at the end of the Lower Level Yard to hide this with this. It's temporary until "real "buildings and background city scene are added. I added 3 LED lights because that end has always been dark. The magnets that turn them off are mounted on a strip of plastic so they can be worked as a single unit.
  • Make a road into, and pave area in front of the Danielsburgh station and up to the Hammond Chemicals plant.
  • Stabilize the legs of the sliders for the doorway module.
  • Fix up a holster for the screwdriver for adjusting the slider leg height so I'm not always fishing for it in the tool bucket.
  • Make uncoupling picks for as many places around the layout as switching is likely to happen, and put them in colour coded holsters so they can be put back where they came from. The holsters are Shrink wrap tubing closed at one end by a soldering iron.
  • This one was also done about the same time as the sky-hook; modify a 50' mechanical refer from roof walk era to modern. There's some weathering to do yet to hide the differences in the original silver and the Testors brush-on.
  • Cut up Facia at the Jessetcook Trading Estate so that only a small sliding access panel at the turnout hidden in the tunnel beneath has to be removed, rather than the whole facia section. This involved two sub-projects. A) re-make the roadway so that the road is separated from the top surface of the facia. B) ...and this was involuntary, re-wire the walk-around plug-in port to lengthen the wires that broke when I removed the port to cut the facia.
  • Re-work the "working view block" so that double stacked container cars don't lose their top containers going through! It is a "down and dirty" fix. I'd have done a new photo and cut it the correct height but for two things. I can't find that photo any more, and besides, the printer is out of ink!
  • Make up names for all my communities and industries, print off labels and attach, at least temporarily to the facia or "buildings" (mostly just boxes or mock-ups as yet)

That may explain why I haven't been super active in here, but it's been fun anyway.  The visit was an operating session with a freight blocked last night and put ready on the departure track (Montreal South yard as of 9:00 am this morning!) for switching just about all the industries on the layout.  This visitor likes operating, and I think he got what he came for!  Gremlins, of course - those passenger cars run as a demo misbehaved mightily - and a turn out or two acted up; but all in all not too embarrassing. He had speed control issues with my NCE Hand Held's thumb wheel, being used to a control knob. So there was embarrassment on both sides.  Session lasted handily in his time frame for getting back home for Dinner.  As I said, a good day.

Now I've a Honey-Do list for next week, mainly painting bedrooms, plus a job at our daughter's in Truro next Wed. or Thurs.  So the layout will take a back seat for a while.  Yard work as well...you know that story well enough.

I'll have a tea, and call it a night. God Bless, and prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.  Galaxy: I've prayed our cat out of having a hip operation, so I'm cool with the concept! .Angel

Good afternoon, All.   I am having difficulties checking in regularly.  I am just working too much.

Dick,  I am back to the White Cascades again.  I had to back track to get with it.  I think that I am back on track.

Jeff, better make sure you have enough flashlights, food, etc.  I like thunderstorms, but when it looks like a tornado is involved.  FORGET IT!!

I know exactly what you mean. Sixteen years as a First Responder has taught me to be prepared. I keep enough canned and non-perishable prepacked foods on hand for a good two months if need be along with a marine stove that runs on multiple fuels including unleaded gas if need be. I also keep lanterns (both gas and electric) on hand along with flashlights, rechargeble batteries, a solar-powered battery charger, weather and emergency radios, two 2-way radios linked to 911, a pocket knife, several utility knifes, several manual can openers, bottle opener, enough drinking water to last several weeks at least, a generator (4.5 KW) and assorted other items as might be needed. How's that for a survival pack?

Well we did alot of yard work today.  Cut grass, planted new grass, new plants, worked on the garden fence, killed some wasps, waxed the car...........now I'm done.  Well not to bad.  All of that by 4:00pm.

Galaxy, the wife tried that this year.  Now over half are dead, or stopped growing.   I buy my squash, and a few other plants already growing good.  I think she will try some seeds one more time, and then buy some already going.

Jeff, better make sure you have enough flashlights, food, etc.  I like thunderstorms, but when it looks like a tornado is involved.  FORGET IT!!

Well I think we are going to the Cracker Barrell, for dinner.  One of the few places up here (PA), I can get a southern dinner.  Then might hit up the casino one more time.

Well everybody have a good nitht, and Jeff just remember.  FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD!!

I installed MS Explorer 8 this week, and today I un-installed it.  They claimed it was backward compatible with all web sites, well they were wrong!  I don’t recommend it at all.

I could'a told you that. I tried it a while back and just as quickly trashed it.

Thank you, I will be sure to pass it on!

As far as where we go it's to none other than Christie's Grill in Johnson City NY. The best place here for prime rib. The end cuts are so tender and tasty, full of flavor and spices with just the "right amount" of "doneness" to them. Oh, and their Au Gratin is also to die for!

Morning, Janie, Flo - I'll have some waffles, maple syrup (as if there is any other worthwhile kind...), a pat or two of butter, 2 strips of bacon, glass of milk and one of Ed's OJ, and some Tim Horton's in a Rio Grande mug, please'n'thankyouma'am! Smile

Am I happy that the storm will now be bugging you? Yes! Why? Because now you will find out why I'm so darned happy!

Of course, Jeff - Lee will be happy - much as you were - when the storm leaves his area...!Smile,Wink, & Grin

Corey (2ndhandmodeler), you know we'd love to see what that valley is beginning to look like (hint, hint...). I have some Sculptamold that I got for some transitional (slight grade) areas between tracks and also between the back industrial track area and the road that meanders off the back (which is a bit above the track - maybe 1/2 inch/1 cm. - or so higher). I hope you weren't all dressed up for a night out dancing with the wife and messing with the Sculptamold. Oops

Doing laundry (across the street from the Diner) this morning, and tonight I have an invite from our LHS owner/MRR club member for a free Wild Game Feast at his church. He said he's not a big fan of the taste of game, but that the guys who do their cooking make it taste yummy! So that'll be my dinner, and my LHS guy may be bringing my most recent order tonight (or Monday).

Lee, thanks for clearing me up about your loco order. I didn't really expect that you had ordered everything on that page (unless you got an advance against your salary for that new job Wink).

Oh, back to my LHS owner/club member, he's a retired RR man (conductor for his last stint before he left, I think), and sent me some pics with how the engineers would've described the 'situations' - hilarious! I'll try to send it out to several of you Diners where I have emails, but there are several photos, so I don't want to 'waste the bandwidth' here, y'know. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Time for me to go move my laundry into the dryers and come back before my waffles are ready. Dinner

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good morning guys!

A nice warm day on tap here, with some rain maybe poking in later.

It's the other half's Birthday so we go out for dinner  HHHHmmmmChef Prime rib endcut with potato au gratin here we come!Dinner We hope it stays a nice beautiful day.

Prayer candle is up for a member of our family and for those who need it.

Robby P. I use to start plants, sometimes having luck, other times failing miserably. Now I find it easier just to buy the started plants now. Last year though the prices were enough to choke a cow, so we shall see. We used to get all we needed for less than or around $20. Last year we spent $45 just to walk out of there with only half of what we wanted! And I think this year maybe even higher prices?? But It's spring...I be plantin' soon....

Well have a great day y'all

Mornin' Scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns. Put it all in a pile and pour milk gravy over it please and a cup of coffee thank you. Oh and could I get a glass of Ed' OJ? Thanks.

Not much a happenin' in here. Nice day again today according to the guessers. Should start raining tonight , cool off through Sunday then dry up and get in the seventies for a while.Yeah!!

Finished putting the shingles put on the Farmers Market last night. I'm working on the ridge cap, then it should be about ready to install.

Jim- Sorry you didn't get to enjoy the weather yesterday. Hopefully you'll have a good day and some "Me Time" today.

Jeff- Glad you survived the storm. I hope no real damage has been done to the outside.

Lee- I've never had the power co tell me to quit sending money! LaughOur Power Co calls it Level Pay, same thing except based on one year. It's a good deal to help budget.Thumbs Up I just don't like the shortage yearsThumbs Down. Smart move on the decoder. Nothing worse on a new item is to have trouble with it, and then have trouble with the warrantee because they claim it had something to do with the modification.

I don't think I'll get much done in the Land of Todd today (of which I'm King). My buddy has a Hackberry tree along side his house that should have fallen years ago but won't. I think he's getting a little worried it might fall the wrong way. So we are going to "take her down" today. The whole center and over half of the trunk from the ground to about seven feet up is rotted and gone! We keep looking at this tree and wondering "how in the world is it still standing?" If you're not familiar with a Hackberry, they can get BIG with forks and some good sized branches. This one isn't real big but it's a good size one. Probably take the tractor and pull it over or at least in the right direction. Then It's STIHL time!!!! (grunt grunt).

Have a Great Day!!

EDIT: Whew!!!  Missed it by 2 minutes. I didn't bring my wallet either!!!

Good morning folks.

I started to apply sculptamold to my river valley yesterday.  I had initially wanted to just do a small test section to see what it looked like.  Well, I liked how it looked so much that I did a third of it!  I was waiting for my wife to get home so we could go out.  If she had taken another thirty minutes, I would have gotten the whole valley done.  I'll probably use a whole 4lb box on the valley, but it is well worth my six dollars!Smile  Now I just need to get some time to do the rest.  I have to work until five, then go out for a thirtieth birthday.  Maybe tomorrow afternoon I can sneak some time in.

I hope you all have a safe and fun weekend!

Good morning all,

Busy day/night yesterday, busy again today. Staff meeting with THAT editor yesterday went well, had to make another trip to the Czech Village, then tried to get some much-needed raking done in the yard...and the Chief decides he wants to go do a controlled burn at some dude's farm. Got back home about 930PM...asleep by 10:30.

Today, two shoots in North Liberty (a grand opening and a "Child Safety Day" at a credit union), then back home to the station to scrub fire apparatus, clean the station, move tables, move food product...etc., etc., etc. All for our FD pancake breakfast tomorrow.

Early bedtime tonight...I think we're due at the station around 0500 tomorrow, with the doors opening at 0700.

Geesh.

Weekend?

What weekend?

Oh well...it's supposed to turn cloudy and rainy later today, cold and wet tomorrow, cold for the first half of the week.

As the man says, have a goodun.

Good morning DINERS!!!  Man the temp is suppose to be 74 today, TAKE THAT OLD MAN WINTER!!!!  Maybe the cold is finally leaving.

I guess its getting close to yard working time.   The wife started some plants in the basement, but the seem to be going in the wrong direction.  The plants were doing real good, and now seems like they aren't.

Well I need to order some breakfast, pretty hungry this morning.

Dinner
