She only put one restriction on the honeymoon, no tourist train locations>Sad

Well, I'm gonna sound like I'm bragging here...but for our honeymoon, we went to...Boone, Iowa. We rode the Boone and Scenic Valley RR. For our 1st. anniversery, we went back to Boone, springing for tickets to ride in the ex-RI wide-vision caboose.

First, Chris,  I was gonna ask if you were sure you wanted to be married to her, but then I see you say she came around!~

We went to Strasburg RR for our 5th anniversary. We went all out. Sweet. We may go back again this year.

We are not to far from Steamtown and frequent there just to watch them "play" with the steam trains. We can't wait to get there soon as the weather gets better! Maybe for Easter Weekend.

Jeffrey, hope the weather is kind to you down there.

It was sunny and a balmy 74* here today WOO HOO!!!! Tomorrow rain and the clouds are starting to move in.Next weekend the insulating weatherizing Plastic comes off the windows!  WOO HOO!!! I think the a/c has to go in the BR as the O2 machine generates an inordinate amount of heat and I sweat all night when the weather is warmer. Nice to have the heat for the colder months, but need a/c to combat the heat from the O2 machine April to November. WOO HOO!!!

Prayer Candle is up for those in need.

Have a SWELL day guys!!!

EDIT: This is the third time in a week I've had top honors! I'm gonna go broke at this rate! PIE A LA MODE for everyone!

Oh, I don't know that she'd be so against ALL train tourist locations.  My parents rode the Orient Express through it's Asian portion for their 40th anniversary, and they had a ball!  And my mom isn't really a train fan either.  I think if the location were exotic enough, she might go for it.

Whatever the case........

Evenin' Everbody, Ya know I think I'll just hav a bowl of mixed fruit on cottage cheese please. Small curd and heavy on the grapes.

Fish fry went great. Sold out again. I did bring in a few leftover homemade pies and cakes for ya'll. Help yourself there's all kinds. Sorry Jeff, no fish left over. Suppose to snow tonight. 1-2 inches then about 60 degrees on Monday.Confused

Jim-glad to hear they might be looking to hire some help. Plenty of work and not enough help can lead to a lot of stress for you. And lately you sometimes sound as if you've just about stressed out at times. That's not good. Get some rest and take care of yourself. Work will be there when you get back.Angel

Chris-I can't say I agree with the nothing special about a woman feeling when it comes to firefighters. I mean, if I were to receive mouth to mouth I'd much rather come to looking into the eyes of a woman than Jeff's. Laugh(thinking out loud) Though if he's just eaten some taco's and didn't wipe his face very good....hmm,Whistling might have to rethink that.

Jeff-Sounds like you had a pretty good time with the scammer. I haven't received any scam phone calls unless you include the lower your debts by borrowing more money things or lower my phone bills by signing up for a more expensive service. Unfortunately there are some people who don't pick up on even the biggest of blunders these people make and get taken bad. It is curious how they got your number. I guess they could just randomly dial anumber knowing only the local of the rea code, but to attach your name to it??

Attaboy- Congratulations hope the corporate change works well.

OK, OK. For my honeymoon we didn't get to see any trains, but we did see a lot of.......can I say it, can I, huh huh????? Ready? OK we did see a lot of  SHPLAAATTT!!!! Ooh butterscotch meringue.

I thought it was over, not yet. On top of the on-going wind & flood watch stuff, we're now under a  "TORNADO WATCH". Nasty looking line coming right for us. Could be large hail, which would be mighty rough on our critters.Sure hope there isn't anything like that with this storm.

First, Chris,  I was gonna ask if you were sure you wanted to be married to her, but then I see you say she came around!~

Galaxy, not really, never had any trouble with Loving Wife. Now...the gals that came BEFORE her on the other hand... THAT's a whole 'nother story...or series of stories. Kit (Loving Wife) designed our wedding around what she called a "firefighter theme" as I was the Fire Training Officer for the Troy Mills VFD at the time. NO tuxedoes! NO suits! NO ties! In fact, the wedding party all wore T-shirts and blue jeans!!!!! Us guys wore navy blue, the ladies royal blue. Since she's a graphic designer, she whipped up a fire dept. maltese cross with a silhouette of a fireman and a lady in the middle. Had that printed on the shirts. We got an Alburnett firefighter, who's also a preacher, to do the ceremony. Instead of lighting a "unity candle," we joined fire hose. Naturally, I got the male end and joined to her female end...Whistling

I'd been wanting to take a ride on the B&SV...SHE suggested it for the honeymoon trip!

She has always, and without question supported my being a vol. firefighter, a model railroader, etc. In fact, when we were looking to buy this house, she asked what room I wanted for my office, and what room did I want for the eventual, future RR layout!

No Sir... never a doubt with this one!

Now, Crazy Annie, Evil Susan, D-Girl, Wacky... whoo-boy, I could tell ya some stories there...

Hope everybody made it through the storms OK today...we've got a mini-blizzard in progress. Last week it was sunny and darn near 70 with grass fires running rampant. This week, it's icy roads and rollovers a-plenty.

Stay safe everybody...

Point well taken Todd... what I'm saying, is I thought the "novelty" of it, the "shock factor." Heck...I can't find the right words for it tonight... basically, women have been fighting fire for quite awhile now...so the concept of the article for THAT editor...seems kinda dated. Although, the local dailies resurrect the same story every so often. Cedar Rapids has had, and has currently women firefighters, a few have even achieved the rank of Captain (company officer). Marion Fire has a female Captain (shift commander). Twenty years ago, maybe even ten to fifteen years ago, it would've been more of a story. Now...it just feels kinda, cliche'd.

There are so many of 'em, the Iowa Firemen's Association is (again) contemplating a name change to the Iowa Firefighters' Association. I am perfectly happy with the current name. Those that want the change cite being "PC," which grates on my nerves to no end...and being "more inclusive." The measure has been shot down before...I hope it gets washed out again, for history and tradition's sake if nothing else. And, I think I may work that in to the story.

My dept. doesn't have any...some neighboring ones do. I've seen some that you really had to look to figure out WHAT they were. Others...yeah, I'd let 'em resuscitate me every day and twice on Sunday! I've known, or known of, a small handful with the Feminazi attitude. In general however, I'll back up, or be backed up by a lady firefighter anytime, as long as I feel confident she can pull my butt out...and vice-versa.

I don't know... waiting to see what their Chief has to say.

I guess I just kinda wonder if THAT editor has some kind of an agenda she wants me to advance.

Good evening, I mean morning all,

I worked on ballasting Fox Creek Junction this weekend (no pictures until I get it cleaned up) and starting applying the decals to my road units.

Here is Berkshire #759 ready to roll out of the paint shop and start pulling freight, this is the S-2 model built by Lima locomotive works here in Lima, OH.

http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2188584740029441264JpBDpu?vhost=good-times

I also played with the two Berkshires sound decoders; the Soundtraxx DSD101LC HEAVY STEAM only advertised 3 whistles.  After playing around with the CV I found about 25 horns.

 Evening all!

Had a great time today. My dad told me that he needed my help getting a printer and some other stuff for his house. So we go to Joes to buy some weights for his bench press and lifting bars, and then we head to the Best Buy for the printer. We get a printer/copy/scan/fax thing (I swear they don't make plain old printers anymore). We then proceed to walk around, and we notice that the local Best Buy has a music department. So we go check it out, look through the drums (Nothing much, a couple DW's, PDP's, and Yamaha kits, and Zildjian cymbals only...), and then my dad starts asking me questions about guitars and amps. Using my limited guitar knowledge, I answered them, and he decides to buy an Epiphone Les Paul. It's probably the cheapest Les Paul, at about $170. Here's a pic:

It's got a 5 star rating, and sounds good to me. We also got a nice amp that's decently sized, and has a decent amount of functions...

So after we get all of this back to his house and set up, I proceeded to show off my knowledge of remembering how to play an A chord, and an E chord. And that was it... So then, I search on youtube for a tutorial on how to play Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi. Found one, and I am proud to say that after 5 hours, I can play all of the notes correctly in sequence (Not in any exact time, I can't switch chords fast enough... Brief classes at school twice a week for two months doesn't teach you much)from the intro to the chorus. I'm proud, and have hurting fingers... Can't wait to play more when I go back to his house again!

Good morning.

It's 41 and clear. The high will be around 67 and it will be partly cloudy.

Didn't get much done on the layout yesterday due to neck and upper back pain most of the day. I finally got a few small things taken care of. Hope to do more today. One thing I'm thinking about doing is tearing down pedestrian bridge and using part of the stairway for the outside stairs to Ezra's digs over the gas station. I'sure I can make use of parts of it elsewhere. It looks good but at the end of the day it just gets in the way. I have a barbecue to attend this afternoon at my niece's home. Think I'm going to miss that? Not on your life! I couldn't miss it even if I wanted to. She'd carry me over there hog-tied if need be! This is one of those 'neighborhood events' where any and all in the neighborhood can attend, and I'm sure there will be plenty of folks there.

Mornin' everbody. Happy Sunday. Waffles please. Maple syrup, and coffee, Thank you.

Well, woke up this morning' to an un-determined amount of snooow. GrumpyAbout 8 inches on the table on the back porch. About 6 inches on the back porch rails. About 3 inches in the back yard. About an inch in the front yard. None in the house and about 3 feet where the village filled the foot of the drive up. I guess the Lord will find a way for us to get to church. Oh look! A snow shovel has appeared in the garage! My hands just fit this snow shovel!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have the #2 special this morning, over easy on the eggs, bacon, homefries, and a double order of the sourdough toast.  You can find me the booth up front watching the rain outside.

Tried to post last night when I got home from the show at 10:45, Oppppppppps!

Enjoyed reading all the wedding stories.  For our honeymoon (almost 42 years ago) we went to a cabin in the woods on a little lake in the Adirondacks for the weekend.  Nobody within miles of us in mid April up there.  Only heat in the building was from a fireplace and an old wood cook stove.  Not that we needed to be warmed up.......  We did manage to lock ourselves out of the place once.  Lucky we were dressed at the time..............Smile,Wink, & Grin  I had to break in through a kitchen window and unlock the door.  After that we just did, uh.... indoor activities.

Show went very well last night in all regards.  Have "Another Op'ning, Another Show" this afternoon and that is it.

Hope you are all staying safe and have a great day!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

Mark,  An Epiphone Les Paul II is a nice guitar.  Good sound and budget friendly.  Have fun with that!  And Epiphone makes great guitars in general.  One of my main axes is an Epiphone Lucille.

your wedding sure sounds like an interesting one.

Oh Pally, you have NO IDEA!!!

If I was to go through and list everything about the day that went completely WRONG... we'd be in Trackside Diner XI by morning from the band-width I'd have to use!!!!

I'll hit the highlights: DJ was an incompetent drunk. Young nephew left unsupervised, found the shelves with the trains..."trains CRASH!" Disapprove A friend tried to get my 1961 Pirsch pumper started, so we could move it, proceeds to pull the sediment bowl and dump 20 gallons of gas, most of it all over himself Dunce.  A bazillion japanese beetles arrive one hour before the OUTDOOR ceremony. Did I mention the drunk D.J.? Oh, and to top it off... my FD gets paged to a workin' structure fire. My Chief and Captain ORDER me to stay put (so as not to upset new wife) while they go fight the fire. Our trucks go roaring by the place. I finally call it a day and find my bottle of Maker's Mark. Kit sees the trucks go by, thinks I'm in one of 'em. Finds out I'm in the house...and says "Honey, you could've gone...Banged Head

The ONLY thing that went right all day...was that I got to marry her. Otherwise...we shoulda gone with my initial plan: ELOPE. But, no....we decided to "think of our families and our friends."

Thinking of others...putting the feelings of others FIRST, gets ya in a bind every time...Whistling

Just reliving the day from hell makes me feel like I need a seditive...

To this day, I STILL can not watch the video tape.

But, she's put up with me for over five years (6 in October). She fully supports my hobbies, I fully support hers. It's a good partnership.

Coffee in a Large AT&SF mug and keep the pot close by. Thanks!

***Mark, congrats on the new guitar.

***Jeffrey, thanks for saving Ezra from a ladder fall, as sooner or later that was sure to happen. Stairs look good & functional.

***Chris, thanks for the chuckles, even if at your expense.Laugh

No more trees down. Wife asked me not to work on removing that one across the fence until she returns home. (she's helping her folks today) Seeing that it is right below that big, beetle eaten, long dead pine tree that hovers over our power pole, she probably has a point. Besides, it's windy and cold out today, so it can wait another day.

Hope everyone is doing well.

your wedding sure sounds like an interesting one.

Afternoon All!

Waiting for the race to start.  Weather is trying to decide what it wants to do.  Dry, comfortable, but still cloudy.

Finally did some work on buildings.  These are modular kit pieces so a lot of glueing is involved.  Still ned to brace, paint, install windows, etc.

Did a rough fit of track and building. Things will work out,  I'll make it fit.  Actually, I have space for this so I'm confident of the outcome.  A bit unconventional because eventually there will also be a track that runs around the perimeter for just running trains.  The through track will come into the scene via a hidden track.  I plan on having several major scenes connected by this outside track.. It's my layout so...\

Howdy, Took the truck to church so I didn't have to shovel til we got back. Something very interesting must have been in the passenger seat because when we got home Missy (the dog) was extremely interested in the smell of Brenda's (the perfect wife) sit upon. So to speak. I told her she probably smells herself because that's where she sits.Whistling Who knows what's been in that seat. It's a truck. By the time we did get back the snow was mainly slush. 4,000lbs per shovel full, after a while not a shovel full. I learn, just not quickly.

Who had the guitar? Who had the guitar......Mark! Epiphone is a great manufacturer of guitars. Gibson bought them yeeeeeaaars ago to compete with Fender in the stores so some stories go.( long trade agreements /disagreements story. Used to be new Gibson's and new Fender's in the same store a no no.) Anyway, Epiphone is a very well made guitar and very affordable. Not only compared to others but especially their parent Gibson. Some buy the Eppy as a stepping stone towards a "real Les Paul" but after a while don't find that the "real" one is worth the extra $$$$$$ and stick with the "Poor Man's Les Paul" and are quite happy years later. Nice Guitar!!!

Chris-Oh yeah, I knew what you meant, and I agree. We have had and still do have, some very competent ladies on our VFD. I just had that thought cross through my head and had to say it.Laugh

OK now for off topic stuff.

Lee- Nice job. Loco looks real good.Thumbs Up

Today I shall smear some joint compound on the foam joint cracks on the layout. Maybe make some bumpies for effect. Then maybe work a bit on some structures and things. You know piddle around in the world of choo choo's. Then off to the church. They are showing "The Passion of Christ" tonight. In Hebrew I think. Subtitled Grumpy

Have a great day
