Mornin' everyone!  Yeh, I think it is still morning.  I slept in this morning....... Slept like a log!  Somebody cut and split it all night long though.  It was a long day yesterday.

Zoe I'll have the #2 Special, over easy on the eggs, homefries, and bacon, with sourdough bread toast if you please.  Dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug (officially my favorite RR) and one of those fresh fruit cups if you please.

Krump, good to see you sir!  I wasn't a frequenter of this diner back then but do remember seeing your posts out in the greater forum.  Glad to see life is letting you get back to the hobby!

Inch, Philip, Rob, Morgan and others, thank you for your thoughts and prayers.  It does mean a lot to me.

Eric, thanks!  I was quite pleased with how the coaches came out.  I found out from a book I bought last fall that the NYOW had their old overton style coaches still in revenue service until 1930.  With that bit of info, I pulled them of the shelf and put them back in operation since the SLOW is set in the late 1920's. A couple of people at the tour yesterday asked me about decals and where I had them done so I pulled out one of the sheets to show them.  One guy looked at them and started to roar.  Then he showed his friends.  They loved the SLOW slogan, "We'll get there sooner or later!"  The railbars on the track have been painted and a bit of overgrowth has been added so it looks like this today:

I'm going to sit in the front booth and wait for the commuter train to pass by!

Hope all of you have a fine day!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

Milk, Chloe.

Just saw a f-unit on the point of a Union Pacfic freight today, It looked dandy in that UP paint scheme. I'm still tryig to figure out how on earth it got here in PA. Oh yeah, does Amtrack do frieght? I saw four of thier Genesys locomotives pulling a frieght a few years ago, and for notch 8 they were going slow for the short length of the train.

Se yall!

Was it an F? or one of the Buisness train Es (Wait, I think they are Es) that UP still runs? I'm sure you know, but I just have to ask. Otherwise a museum coud be sending it to somewhere elase I spose.

Amtrak did dabble in Express work, but those were all Amtrak cars on Passenger trucks. There were 60 foots, MHCs, and some Roadrailers. That dropped out I wanna say about 2003 when they lost the mail contract. Or were these true freight cars? Gennys were geared for Passenger speeds, sothe popular guess would be that they were being held back because of the freight cars.

Ray: I'm sorry to heaar of your loss, but it sounds like it's his gain.

And for yours, Jeff

Coffee in a large UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks.

***Ray, was sorry to read about Barney. He had a mighty long full life. BTW, I really liked those Overton repaints.

***Philip, good to hear you got some leather working done. How about a pic of that, or would it require an engraved train to qualify as "on topic".Mischief

***Krump, welcome back and don't be a stranger.

Must have had a bad surge last night, as one of my computer backUPS (Powerware 5115) is dead.

Today's high is said to be 69F, so I've opened up the windows. Only drawback is letting in the pollen. Our next power bill had better be cut in half with all the changes we've made. Even put up a line for drying clothes.

Healing thoughts to those in need.

Off to do morning critter rounds. Cowboy Rob

Robby; I have a wee question--I counted what looked like 7 engines on the point--and ONLY 8 cars---This made Audrey wonder--where some lokes not running? Because if they were then you'd have a engine/car ratio of almost 1:1?---eegh--as far as the video is concerned I thought from my end it looked goodThumbs UpThumbs Up

Good late morning everybody.  Todays high will be about 50.   I guess thats not to bad.

Well I met a guy yesterday that is a really into trains.  He has hundereds of engines, boxcars, etc.  I was amazed.  Over half he hasn't even opened or used.   His layout was pretty nice.  I also caught a freight engine coming by.  I posted a video of it.  "Sorry for the bad video."  I have a nice video camera, but no cord for the computer.  The picture with its 100% better.

He also told me about a friend of his that has a "running operation" on Wednesday's.  He gives you a work order (or whatever the train term is, cant think of it right now", and you have to move the freight.  Just like real life.  Wait at the lights, call to see if your train can move, the whole nine yards!!!!   The guy wouldn't even let you drink a beer while you are working!!!  That realistic.  It sounds real neat.  I would like to see something like that.

Well "HELLO" to all of the people I haven't met yet, and welcome back past Diners!!!!!

Here's that video.  It was a train doing switching along CSX lines.

Krump!  Long time no see!  Welcome back!  About the only thing thats changed is that the diner moves a LOT more nowadays.  Seems a big thread like the diner tends to get to be doesn't agree with the new forum software and it starts crashing the whole forum.  You'll know it's time to move when you go into a thread and you get an "Ooops" message instead.  Oh, and how do ya like that coming back here just in time to pick up the tab for everyone? Smile,Wink, & Grin

Howmus, I'm sorry for your loss.  It's tough losing those that we're close to, even when we know in the backs of our heads that they can't live forever.  My prayers are with you and yours.

Jeff, I'm suprised that you, the fireman, haven't caught any grief for having a fire get away from you.  I guess people are smart enough to know that those things can be really tricky, even for the experienced!

Oh hi Chloe.....I'll have the country boy breakfast......on Krumps tab!

 Good morning.

It's 52 and clear. The high should be around 80 and it will be partly cloudy.

Didn't get any work done on the layout yesterday as I was too busy helping my father get pine straw moved from the rental properties. Personally I'd hand the tenants a rake each and say get with it. As for burning off my yard yesterday (I've received some flak about this from some wishful know-it-alls), it's an accepted method down here for quickly clearing low brush and stimulating new growth as there are plant species here that drop their seeds only after fire has cleared the ground and given the seeds their best chance for growth. The ash also returns much needed nitrogen to the soil without the expense of buying fertilizers that contain things I don't want in my yard. The major down side is my trailer smelled like a stubbed out cigar afterwards. Being as there was almost no wind at all the smoke just hung in the air and finding fresh air was a hit and miss proposition. At times visibility was about five feet. The only time a breeze sprang up was when we absolutely DID NOT need it. Of course the neighbors had been duly alerted beforehand about the burn. I've had the AC going all night with the fresh air port open and it has cleared much of the smell out. Today I'll be helping clear more pine straw from the rental properties IF my father doesn't get called for work that is. He's on call 24/7 and doesn't have any set times for work. With today's economy his chances of having work are much better than mine. I haven't had employment in so long I've forgotten what a time card looks like. Everybody is cutting back. Maybe if we cut back on driving the oil companies will pay us for a change. Probably wishful thinking at best.

Is this where the BRUNCH line stops ?

Good evening all !  It's been a long hiatus from the Diner, from Trains.com (glad I remembered the pw) and from TRAINing in general.  Probably 15 months since I last had a mocha here.

I like the new digs. The website had a facelift.

I see that Phillip was here recently, and I recognize a few other names also - so greetings to all from BC Canada.  I've had to focus on family matters for quite some time, and now it is looking like I can return to some TRAINing in the near future.  So what's new in the Diner and on the forum ? can you wave and say hi if you recognize me.

Over the past while der5997 and I have kept in contact particularly, and I see that he has been busy with the train room.  Perhaps he has also filled you in  on things in my world.  Is der5997 around the Diner at all these days ?  He's motivated me to get back at it - perhaps even rejoin the local club here in the new season.

Still digging my way out of the Snow - reminds me of the day Noah offered to clear the driveway.  It's March and Spring I'm ready for work indoors and outside.

cheers, krump

PC- Hang in there. One more night.Sigh

Yeah, I'll make it.......I wore myslf out today on purpose!

Actually, I did something kinda cool.  I got out all of my leather working tools and I made some mudflaps for my bike.  Next, I cleaned the bike real good and then installd the flaps.  They turned out great I thought.  I need to get some more leather and I'll make some matching floorboard skirts.  I've also got some saddlebags I've been working on.  They should be done soon.

Chloe--I'll have a Lemon Meringue Pie and a RBF please---

Sheeesh! Several hours later and we're just about done. Everything that Eric got his nose into is getting crammed into his external hard drive---thank heavens for 1Tb drives. I've got a mess of records all over the floor and the two are going through them like a pair of mad hatters. BIL and I had a good talk while this is going on--they leave tomorrow afternoon--and I'll be able to get the stuff back into some semblance of order---

Oh---and trying to do laundry at this hour---everybody running around-------OY VEY

Evenin' again folks!

TMarsh
Congratulations!!!! It sounds like all went well. I couldn't help but notice you DIDN'T mention problems with the layout. Good deal.

Actually the layout ran very well.  The only derailments we had all day were from turnouts thrown the wrong way and one spot where a small kink has developed.  It seems I must have solved the dampness problem.....  The train room has always been damp and had some leaks, particularly this time of year.  All summer, I have a dehumidifier running to keep it about 50% humidity down there.  Today the humidity according to the meter I have is 15%......  I may have to plug in a humidifier.  Any way the gang, especially the 11 year old kid had a blast running trains while I talked to the guests.

TMarsh
I am so sorry to hear of you loss though. Like you said at least you got to say "goodbye". You and your family are in my prayers for comfort.

Todd and all the rest of you, thank you for your kind words!  Barney was an interesting man.  Crusty and hard as nails on the outside, but one of the most caring husbands and Fathers I have ever met.  For whatever reason we always hit it off and enjoyed each other's company.  For a long time it was well known that I was the "favored" Son in Law......Smile  It was he who really got me started in Model Railroading as an adult and I have a nice group of locos and cars that gave me 40+ years ago.  Many will have "special" places on the SLOW and some will be used in service, like these Overton Coaches repainted for the SLOW:

He saw photos of these a couple months ago and was very pleased with it.  Like I said, I'm gonna miss him!

Evenin' all Dr Pepper please and some more of that Lemon Meringue PIE thank you.

Twas a good day today. Things went well. Buddies tractor is running splendid after replaced quad seal on the injection pump head. He was happy. Got the mold pressure washed off the north side of the house and the back porch started. Wife's happy. Well sort of, she wasn't too pleased to see I wrote "Brenda farted" with the pressure washer on the side of the house. Hey, I washed it off. Things were going well so we went uptown to the restaurant and had pizza. Ah life is good.Thumbs Up

Jeff, sounds like a telephone on the top of the telephone pole outside of Ezra’s new home would be an interesting scene for your layout (like in Green Acers).  Sorry about your G scale display but if the wheels and the rails survived I bet you could fabricate a new one.

The rails were twisted by the heat and I don't have any replacements. The loco was a custom built model and be replaced by an off the shelf model. All the loco needed to run again was a new motor but I never got around to fixing it. What happened to the original motor? I pulled something that one of the forum members here can identify with. I had it pulling a heavy load and dragging all that weight up the grades fried the motor. The lights and sound still worked fine and the circuit board was sealed so moisture wasn't going to bother it. I put it on display in the yard and kept pushing it back onto the back burner. It survived numerous storms and came through Rita without a scratch. It even survived the neighbors kids when they sometimes got hold of it while I was at work. But now, destroyed becaused of a senseless accident.

I like the idea of the phone at the top of the pole. I'll have to see if I can get hold of something to model that with. I can't scratchbuild much anymore.

Evening,

Sue, maybe we could go in on half’s with those fisherman; I can only find them in packs of 6 or 7 and only need a couple.

Der john, those backdrops are impressive!

Ray, sorry to hear about your FIL’s passing, but glad to hear you had a good meeting/open house.

Jeff, sounds like a telephone on the top of the telephone pole outside of Ezra’s new home would be an interesting scene for your layout (like in Green Acers).  Sorry about your G scale display but if the wheels and the rails survived I bet you could fabricate a new one.

Inch, NO FISHING? Oh boy!  I’m glad she is home and sounds like she is doing better.

I stopped at Dale’s house tonight and picked up 12 train movies all local selections.  Heck now I’m not going to know what to do since Battle Star Galactic series ended last night.  There are only a few programs I watch anymore.   Still running break-in hours on the 2-10-2’s before they head to the paint shop to delete the KCS markings.

Good afternoon, All.  The MR meeting was great last night.  The host showed slides of railfanning at Railtown and other areas in northern California.  It was a fun time.

Lee,  I am at a standstill.  I need to get fascia done at the bottom of the stream, and I need a fisherman with his line in the water.

Later,Sue

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.

Went to the LHS this morning as the wife was working and picked up  a few more bits for my planned N scale effort. Got an Atlas piggy back flat and a LL stock car, both in CN of course. After that I decided to have a look at the GWWD which is the Greater Winnipeg Water District Railway. It is a 100 mile line that was built in 1912 to construct the aquaduct that brings water to Winnipeg. They run a couple of RS23s which were built by MLW in the early '60s. An RS23 is a blocky looking switcher with road trucks. They have 1000 HP engines and I believe are largely an ALCO design. They also have 4 wood box cars sitting on a siding for storage and 2 still have arch bar trucks so they are very old.

The temp here is finally above freezing so the snow is melting nicely and thankfully we don't have a lot. Nevertheless there is a real threat of serious flooding this year on the Red River due to heavy precip in North Dakota and Minnesota. In fact Fargo and Grand Forks are now getting ready for it. We don't have the same worry here due to the floodway diversion.

Ray, sorry to hear about your FIL. He certainly did live to a good age as they say. Glad to hear things went well with your meet.

Well I have the passenger cars on the track so I think I'll go downstairs and give the Mountain a little run.

***Jeffrey, does Ezra have any plans to paint the addition to match the station? Looks like a real good fit. Using the ladder would get old, so I assume there are plans for stairs (inside or out) in the future?

There are no plans at present to repaint the home to match the station. The station is red brick and the addition is terra cotta stucko and he likes it just the way it is. It stands out, just like his (he thinks) oversized ego. The ladder is a temporary measure until an outside staircase can be added.

There was a tragedy in my life today. My G Scale narrow gauge Silverton Flyer which had been on static display (motor was burned out) in the front yard for 12 years was lost in a fire. It was a 4-6-0 Baldwin with tender, 40 foot wood boxcar lettered for Cascade Canyon and a combine custom lettered for the Durango and Silverton. My father and I were burning off the back yard and had a sufficient fire break between the front and back yards and the area around the display had been wet down to the point of being a mud hole. Somehow the fire jumped the break and broke into the front yard. Pushed by the breeze it headed straight for the display and somehow got past the muddy ring. All that's left is a few chunks of carbonized plastic and some metal wheel sets sitting on brass rails, the ties of which were burned away. Of the seven G Scale trains I had this was the only one I had kept, notably because I wasn't going to sell something that no longer ran.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Afternoon gang!

After 3 months of planning, worrying, and getting everything arranged, it is over!  My first NMRA Meet as the Superintendent of the Division is done!  The weather was great!  All the presenters showed up and did a great job.  I had close to 30 people stop in to see my layout this afternoon.  Comments were good to a one.  Now to get to work on the next one!

The only thing that was not so good today was that I got a telephone call from my SIL letting me that My dear old Father in Law passed away last night. He finally has his wish to be with his wife again.  Very, Very glad i found time last week to get up and see him.  He was 95 years old.  I don;t think anyone else on either side of the family has lived to that age before.  I will miss him!  This was him at 94 (I have posted it before, hope yu don't mind).

Hope you are all enjoying Spring!  I have to start supper for family coming over for dinner (a thank you to my son for tending the door and showing guests to the trainroom during the tour).

Good afternoon all, a beautiful sunny day, temps in the 60s here in Clarence.

Well, I got well and thoroughly HAZMAT-ed today. We took about a dozen guys to Tipton for the Ops level class. At first it looked like we'd be there for about a week...on chapter one alone! County Coroner (sp?) went and had a little chat with the instructor on break, and he picked up the pace for chapt. two. By the time he hit chapt. 3, he was in-gear and moving along nicely. I should add, the Coroner is a paramedic, EMS instructor, and long-time legend in the County. She's NOT one to tick-off!

She told one of our guys, "I am NOT sitting here all day..." and marched up to the front. She's...kinda like a Sherman tank.Whistling

I've worked with her for years, and she really is a sweetheart...just don't tick her off...or spend classtime Sign - Off Topic!!!!!!!!

Afternoon was "hands-on" as the glow worms set up a decontamination line, suited up a pair of volunteers, and had some more volunteers staff the line for a walk-through of how to do it. The afternoon instructor (as I predicted, knowing the charecter fairly well) was as eager to get the heck out of there as we all were. He promised to have us done and gone before 3PM. We were back at the station by 5 after...

Everybody in the county is out on grass fires, and our neighbor to the south and east (Scott County) seems to have some going. Bluegrass Fire is going from fire to fire, some theirs, some mutual aid. We've got guys on one right now. Since they've got all the trucks except the pickup carrying the JAWS, the rest of us just went on home. Sounded like it was just about "tapped."

Other than that...I "should" be out raking the leaves I never got to back in the fall...or washing my truck...or...something.

Think I'll grab a burger and fries, and hang out here; well, until the next fire at least...

Coffee refill, please.

Been hammering all day on those raised garden beds (mostly old RR ties), setting double thick black plastic inside them. Then the wife brings home 2 pear trees & 2 apple trees for me to plant. At least she planted the blueberry bushes herself. I'm running out of steam with all the extra projects she keeps sprining on me.

Tonight the wife is helping her folks (Thank Goodness...I'll finally get some down timeLaugh) Seems like a good night to dabble in the train room. I have a little trestle kit to build, so maybe I'll work on that.
