Been out at a friends place helping him straighten out a problem with his computer. One of the Vista bugs struck again. The computer had been able to run all his software then suddenly it wouldn't run anything but stuff made strictly for Vista. Anybody had this problem?

Well I got out today for a good walk---I must've walked for miles---all over the place. Now I'll spend the weekend playing around with what is in the camera and see what I'll keep. I did find out that I left a couple of 'bents' out of the picture hence the sag in the atrium---heehaw---SighBanged Head

Wow!  A lot going on here. Chloe, I'll have the Filet Minion with the shrimp, Steamed Brussel Sprouts in butter and hmm, a class of wine. Thanks.

Jeff, I'm not a pooter person by far, but I have Vista on the laptop and a new desktop and haven't had any issues.  I've been able to update older programs from their sources.  But then I don't push my units either, they do what I ask them to.  My old desktop has XP and a big problem however.  It powers up and just as the desktop shows up I get a blue screen error message which escapes me now.  Won't even run in limp mode!

Anyway, on the MRR front, I picked up the 44 tonners and some landscaping supplies.  I had to go up home to get the wills processed and get the executor stuff taken care of.  Now all I need to do is get my foam.  I'll have fun with this as there is a vertical drop from Stevens point to the actual roadway.  I plan on showing this......if ....it..... ummm..fits......  We'll see.  I KNOW!!  I'll make it fit!!

To those who are in need, my prayers.  To the newborn, luck be with you.  Sounds like she's ready to take on the world.

Sorry I left out the names... it's been a long day, a long 5 weeks.

You nailed it. We had to access each of the older programs properties menus and reset the compatibility to Windows 98 or earlier. After that they worked.

I've also got one other thought: ditching football at school and going out for either track, or more preferably, cross-country. I love running, and sure I'll have to work at running, but I do it almost every day, just means I'll have something to run harder for.

Evenin' folks!

Cloe i'll have the New York Strip Steak with a baked potato, what?  Of course with sour cream, a nice garden salad with blue cheese dressing, huh?  Yep the crumbly will be fine, a couple fo those fresh baked dinner rolls as well.  For desert I'll have the Baklava.

Hope all the other frozen Northerners had as good a day as I had today!  With temps in the high 50s and little wind, it was nice to be outside without a coat on for a bit.  Got everything done that I needed to (after finding that darned checkbook!) for the day.  had a nice walk with Petey the dog.  He checked out every tree, rock, clump of overturned sod, and fire hydrant in the neighborhood.  Marked every one of them as well so the next doggie to come along would know he was there.........Whistling  Drove over and checked out the auditorium where I will be recoding tomorrow and talked with a bunch of old teacher friends as well.  Lets see.....  there was something else I got done today, what was it...... OH!

I met my new Granddaughter!  And is she a sweetie!  In case you want to meet her too, here she is all of one day old!

Here she is with a very proud Grampa!

Emily and Dad....

And, of course, one with Mom.....

Both Emily and Karen, my DIL, are still pretty tired out from yesterday's ordeal.  Emily is almost 1/3 bigger than Olivia (granddaughter #1) was.  If she hadn't delivered when she did, they would have delivered her c-section.  Emily slept and made some faces the whole time I was there (about an hour).

Well I have to finish getting everything ready for the recording tomorrow.....

Catch you all later!

Have no problems breathing though, never have, as far as I remember.

Cocoa, please.

***Ray, beautiful pics. So, how soon are you going to give her a "train mobile" to gaze up at? Wouldn't hurt to plant the seed early.Smile,Wink, & Grin

Wife was comfortable enough with her Dad's condition to return home tonight. She sure seems down to me. I know the past couple years have really taken a toll on her. Just hate to see her having a tough time of things. Now she is trying to return to work at the hospital and they are making her jump through some rediculous hoops. Gurrrr!

On the positive side: She approved the river flowing in front of the trestles concept with a sudo-cove scenario. Actually, she really liked what was there so far.

Never got into the train room today to work on anything. And tomorrow is going to be such a nice sunny day, I'm going to work on the deck (way overdue) and garden beds.

Oh model railroading will be a common thing in both granddaughters lives (Olivia already has several train toys), and when they are a bit older I am sure they will go with Grandpa for a day at the 1/1/sized museum.......Big Smile   You did notice Grampa's shirt now didn't you?

Rob I will keep your wife in my prayers.  Seems she sure has been through a lot lately.  Hope she can get back to work without too much hassle!

Glad ya'll liked the videos.

Ray, congrats.  I hope to be there this time next year (well child wise).

When I went to the LHS I also bought 3 trackside buildings well one lights up.  Its made by Model Power, not the best name, but I will try to get some shots of what look I am going for.

Well everybody have a goodnight.

Good evening, Chloe - I'll have a hot chocolate with those little bitty marshmallows on the top, please, 'n' thanks!

Todd, I like your pizza/bait/repair shop. On mine, I may make my version for just pickups, instead of the big rigs. Shock Yours looks good - just need a dog wandering around, a few touches of rust (maybe ask Robby for a little help with THAT...) - heck, you have some rust on the truck trailer out back!Smile,Wink, & Grin - and you'll be ready to put the sign out front and open it up. Thumbs Up

Robby - nice video there! Yeah!! I was wondering the same thing (how many of the locos were just freeloading for the ride...). Sure needed some lube on those wheels, from the sound of it!

Eric - not a problem, given all the stuff you've had lately. And besides, I think there are a few of us with less on our plate who have an episode or two of that "Someteimer's" thing. Whistling Have fun with your new locos and the foamboard.

It was windy here in Cape Girardeau today, just like our Northerners' weather. Left my spring jacket in the car at lunchtime, and stopped by one store and picked up a dress shirt and a short sleeve shirt over lunch. Then went by our LHS owner/MRR club member's church, where they were having a fish fry tonight. After dinner, I paid him for, and picked up my Digitrax DB150 and the power supply for it, as well as the rest of the DPM modules I'd ordered for my background warehouse. Will start gluing the sections together this weekend. Probably use some sheet styrene to reinforce the joints from the backside. Yeah!! Oh yeah, after dinner, swung by that store and picked up some new Reebock (white) tennies - went for size 13's, for a little extra room. I don't think my feet should be growing at my age (unless it's sideways, maybe), but the 12's they had didn't leave my toes enough breathing room out front (and no, PC, I did NOT get a red ball for my nose to go with them! AngryLaugh

Ray, GORGEOUS granddaughter there! Thumbs UpBow (Almost as cute as my grandson...Whistling) Yeah, I'd agree with Rob, get looking for that train mobile now - you want that up and in place over the crib when Emily gets home! Got to get those important first impressions going everytime Em's sitting in her crib, looking up. Yeah!!

Rob, as long as it's warming up outside, it would be a good time for planting those veggie gardens. After all, your local rabbits, deer and squirrels are counting on your Nutritional Stimulus Package to get them through these hard times, y'know...Smile,Wink, & Grin Good to hear your wife likes the ideas for the layout. But since it's her first one, she'll probably be happy with anything that fits all the stuff she wants in there.Smile

I'll be heading for home after I finish up my hot chocolate. Prayers for the newborn, the ailing and healing up, and those needing a rest (before we lose that hour on Sunday morning).Zzz

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

140 miles.........

140 miles, thats how far I rode my motorcycle before that nasty old office was out of my head!  What a week!

Rode up and down the CSX main for nearly 50 miles, cruised some back roads, and a few small towns.  BTW, my new headlight mod lights up the night like there's no tomorrow!

Speaking of tomorrow, think I might get up early, grab my camera, and go shoot some trains!  That way that nasty old office will be nothing but a distant memory!  (You inspired me Robby!)

Congrats Ray!

Evening Gang: I went to the granddaughters color guard compititions tonight. They have won top honors the last three times and tonight is the biggie. They will be getting there trophys. I didn't stay for the awards since they won't give them out untill 10:45pm. That's nuts to me but what can I say. Mary Ann stayed. It will be interesting tomorrow morning at 4am when I have to get her up for her trip to dialysis.

Ray that little bundle is sure cute. All mine are growing up so fast. The last one is almost 14 months now. She is really getting to be a cut-up. She knows what a camera is and hams it up.

I started the grading on the area for the turntable for the live steam railroad. For HO I just need to level the plywood. For the live steam it takes a tractor with a loader and the bigger the better.

Well I'm going to  hit the sack. I know that Mary Ann will wake me up when she comes in.

Good Night All

BDebaing taking Thomas, but he's OO, which is longer than HO< same width approximately. Oh, and camera. Definate coming.

Tonight the mom and I walked Tally about a half mile or so. ALl had fun, but that was one pooped puppy

Emily is a beautiful baby!

PC, I envy you for your nice long ride.

A poster on another thread (the topic on which was removed by Bergie) claims we never discuss relevant model railroading topics (and it's diner, not dinner).  I feel our discussions hold great merit; exchanging our MRR ideas, asking modeling questions, offering our MRR suggestions, sharing our MRR accomplishments.  All without one-upping another person or putting down someone.  I picked up ideas from the photos posted and I'm sure others have too.   And... sometimes we talk about our families, our hopes, our fears, our lives, our loves.  Sometimes we vent, we may disapprove of something, but it's in an intelligent, non-threatening manner.  We are human, we all make mistakes but between us, we seem to understand the frailities of human nature and accept them as such....... I'll get off of the box now.

Prayers for those in need, hope for those new in the world, and a quiet night for the reat of us....

Eric

Evening Everybody, Boy what a long day. But beautiful, man was it beautiful. Sounds like several of us got out just to enjoy the weather. I too had a pooped pup.

First and foremost I must say, Ray- Aaaaaawwwww she's precious. And I'm glad you said that you were proud because I couldn't tell in the picture.Wink

Rob- glad to hear your FIL condition is well enough for your wife to feel comfortable enough to come home. Prayers continue for him and her strength, both mentally and physically. And for you also. To be able to support her. I know you can and will.

RobbyP- Cool video. I got to watch a few UP freights chug by the elevator today myself. One was a long grain train 3 engines up front and a surprising fourth at the rear. That is unusual for here. Couldn't tell for sure just what they were as I was looking through grain bins from the scale house. Also another freight went by and I noticed that the one thing about the two was.....They weren't prototypical. The second freight was pulling cars that the rivet counters would tear you up if they saw you running on your layout. Wish I took a video or pictures. Doesn't make me feel so bad for the mix I have.

Jim- Rust is a problem of mine. I was actually pleased with the trailer, It came out better than I thought and actually looks better in real life. It's an old Tyco thing I had and I wasn't worried about messing it up and it turned out OK. You should see the roof of the shop part of the building though. There's a part that kinda looks like the business side of a diaper. I'll get the touch sooner or later if I keep peeking at Robby's stuff....... Maybe. And yes I need a dog, I think I'll name it Petey. I really like that name for a dog. (no offense to people or cats named Petey)

Eric- I agree with you 100% while on that box. Model railroading isn't just a hobby for individuals. It brings people together forms friendships and becomes a community of people. All because of a little choo choo train.

Good morning.

It's 63 and mostly cloudy. The high should be around 80 and it will be partly cloudy.

I received some items in the mail yesterday to use for whatever parts I can get from them. These are an early 60's example of an Athearn GP30, an early model Athearn F dummy B unit and several Athearn freight cars, all of which have varying degrees of damage. A couple of the cars can be fixed rather easy. The other two are basket cases which will be stripped of any usable parts. One, a three dome tank car, will eventually be kitbashed into an on site oil storage tank. The dummy F booster unit has already been weighted and fitted with metal wheels (from the GP30). The GP30 chassis has been completely stripped. The motor is a hopeless cause. My test meter gets a direct short across the poles. The metal truck side frames will look good in a junk scene and I'm sure I have a GP35 chassis around here somewhere that I can fit the body shell to. One of the better cars is a PFE express reefer which needs some minor repair. A couple of hatch covers and a Kadee coupler box and it will be back in service. The other car is a SF 40' boxcar that requires only a door and Kadee couplers. All the cars have sprung trucks. Last but not least is an AT&SF light up caboose. It's missing a critical part and shorts out. It too has sprung trucks. All units have body mounted coupler boxes.

Good Morning. We're at the round goose egg---otherwise known as 0C--going up to 9C. With rain. Tomorrow we'll be at 6C with some sun but rain in the evening----

Ray: You must be a proud grandpoppa. Good Pix!!Smile,Wink, & Grin

Jeff:-My computers both use Vista---clean install--and both have turned out to be very stable platforms for my work. The only problem area is my IE7 hiccupping.

PC: I've got 2 Fairmonts that were nearly that small---BTW I agree with Jeff--Don't sneeze!!Whistling

We got some more outdoor work to do in the backyard before we go to the mall and get some shopping done. It looks like the rest of the week will be rainy so I'll still have MRR time --- that way I'll hopefully get the atrium done by next week!!

As for backyard work--sometime in the next couple of weeks I'll be able to get the treestump pulled out'n the ground---then we'll see just how much reseeding needs done----BTW--this morning my wife and I saw the bald eagle that is apparently nesting around our area. That is now three nesting pairs that are known to be here----

Any argument carried far enough will end up in Semantics--Hartz's law of rhetoric Emerald. Leemer and Southern The route of the Sceptre Express Barry

Good morning everyone!

Thanks for the good wishes folks and and you can bet I'll be promoting trains every chance I get......Wink   My other granddaughter likes the trains, but only when one is running.  She starts to cry when it stops.

Nice day here in the Finger lakes so far.  Currently 41°F with last nights frost quickly disappearing.  May get up into the mid 50s today with some showers this afternoon.  Rain is forecast for tonight.

I am off to do a recording this morning so as soon as I finish my coffee, I'll be on my way.

Hope all of you have a great day!

Morning Gang: It's been another early morning. We got up at 4:30 and I took Mary Ann to the dialysis center. I got her settled in and then came home. I expect that she will sleep through the proceedure  since she didn't get in untill 11:30pm last night. The granddaughters group took top place in the compitition. They each got a medal and the group got a large trophy. Mary Ann said that Sara cryed when she got her's.

I need to get out and feed the cattle. I vacumed out the cab of the tractor. The floor was getting so dirty I had trouble seeing it. Daisy the dog is in her bed so I think I'll leave her there. She had a good bit of time outside this morning while I did the tractor.

I guess I'd better get going.

See you all later.

PC, that is one teeny-weeny hand car!!  That's one reason I'll stick with HO. The cats would probably eat something that small!  I glue my people to the layout so they usually are not a problem.

My plan today is to start removing the old chimney from the attic.  Today will be warm enough to work up there comfortably.  Of course it's two flights down to get the debri outside....  we'll see.

I bought the Walthers Modular sets that are on sale with plans to modify them a bit to more resemble the architectural style used on the Hoboken plant.

Chloe, bacon and eggs please!
