HO Question: Anyone know if one of those articulated Loggers (2-6-6-2 or 0-6-6-0(?)) can negotiate 15 radius track?
I'm still not sure what to do with the "very short distance" between the backside of those trestles and the top of the "very small" mountain? If the mountain was at an end of the table (instead of towards the middle), with nothing directly on the other side, then it would look fine to me. Still have some figuring to do. Guess I aught to see if the wife has any druthers.
Not to worry, I have been doodling with my own layout as well. One last section of foam to glue down (right where the photo was taken from) and then the fun begins. I have a rough plan already...start throwing track at it and see where it lands. Just kidding...well, sorta kidding The shelves are all 2' wide (good suggestion, whoever made it?) I forget what the two tables measure, but plenty for dual track loops for continuous running for times when that is all I want to do.
Eyes are getting tired...time to hit the hay.

Rob, most railroads don’t make sense, they build structures that help them make money. Just east of here there is a long trestle on the former Bessemer and Lake Erie railroad maybe ½ mile long but the creek that is spans is only 25 feet wide. Try connecting the trestles end to end and see what it looks like.
I picked up a yellow ATLAS C&O caboose the other day, last night I tried a new trick; I erased the C&O logo successfully with a pink carnation eraser. Worked out very nicely!
OK a small detour before I go to work this morning; the lab called and said I needed to stop in to have my blood drawn again!!!

Rob:We have a few areas around here where trestles and such make you wonder what someone was thinking. 2300 foot long trestles to cross an oxbow in a creek that at most only takes up about 150 feet. Maybe the runoffs were a little bigger in the day of no flood control systems---who knows.

Well this little puppy is going to take camera out and try to get some shots of warehouses and such to collect some ideas for structural changes to buildings---the atrium is getting a bit of a change in plan or design because not enough reinforcement in one area is causing a sag to develop!! GRRRSo off I go looking at a couple of buildings that I found out had something of the style I was building up to--

Thanks everybody for the prayers. We went to the docs yesterday, and the app. ended up getting cancelled. The doc had a emergancy. So.................We will see a new doc Monday. Once we got to the doctors Jessica was signing in and I went to sit down. A lady said "you don't match". I was looking at my clothes. She said "you are the only male in here (waiting room)". I said "I guess so". Then the other ladys started to BASH there husbands/boyfriends for not coming. Then the lady told my wife "you have a great husband for coming with you." I think she was touched. So that was my experience at the OB/GYN.
The new doc we will see is paralized from waist down. He and his wife was in Jamacia years ago robbed, and shot. He was shot in his back, and paralized. The nurse said he has seen it all, so I think that makes me feel better.
Well Jessica got me a metal cabinet from work, and I can use it for train/misc. stuff in the basement. I haven't worked on the layout in a few days. I need to give the trains a few laps today. I might have to fight some dust bunnys as well.

Good Morning All,
A regular and a bluebery muffin please - split toasted and buttered. Waiting for the CFO to return from w..k and give me a lift to the docs - she let me sleep in as I was beat. I fully intended to sign back in last evening when I got to the house but fell asleep on the couch instead waking up when the news came on.
Rob - you have options. One is to have the river wind around the base of the mountain where it hits a soft spot in the rock formation, burrowing a large hole in the otherwise flat or rolling terrain. That happens a lot in nature - evidence the Grand Canyon. Inches idea of a river emerging from a cut in the mountain also works as does the other suggestion of a canyon formed by previous large flows that have been reduced over time to a trickle by a changing climate. Any of those scenarios will work and hey - it's your (or at least your CFO's) railroad.
Sawyer - I echo the advice of others here. You will only have limited oppourtunities to play football and it can be a valuable building experience for later as it does take a lot of work and dedication to just make the team. Do give it all a good think before you act.
Eric - The foam is my favorite now that I've used it. Cutting with the foam knife from Micro Mark and the hot wire slicers make shaping pretty easy (just keep up with the vacuuming as you go). I also use a curved bondo cutter to make impressions and smooth transitions. 2' foam glued to 1/4" Luan or plywood is sufficient for most work and can span 2' easily simplifying framing beneath. The biggest problem/challange is the tendency then to have everything the same height so don't be hesitant to slash away. Another useful format for the foam is the 1/2" thick sheeting they sell at HD which has perforations in it and holds plaster well with a little scuffing. Hope that helps. J.R.

Rob, I took these pics a few years back when the leaves were down. This old bridge is whats left of a NKP span over the White River here in Central Indiana (west side of Noblesville to be exact). It's maybe 50ft wide at this point, but it floods several times a year. You can see the trestle ends now because they put in a road behind where I'm standing, but the original continued on for about 100ft behind me. The steel span is the part that actually spans the water.

Mornin' all. Another nice day here again today. Might rain tonight some say. Why is it everyone complains that the weather guessers are always wrong, but we always rush to see what they say is going to happen. Two eggs, scrambled, fried potatoes, two biscuits, crumble up some fried sausage, put it all in a pile and cover it with milk gravy please. Oh and a mug of black coffee thank you.

Good morning.It's 61° and partly cloudy (broke the clear streak). The high will be around 80 and it will be partly cloudy.Yesterday my soldering gun bit the dust. I had been noticing it was taking longer and longer to heat up no matter how often the tip was cleaned. I was in the middle of installing a decoder when the coils in it popped. To say that it was a bright flash is an understatement as I nearly had a fireball on my hands. I quickly pulled the plug and tossed it in the sink. A quick application of running water took care of the fire. A trip to Lowe's was in order. I picked up a new soldering gun, a power saw attachment for my Dremel and a new tip cleaner. Had a fire dept meeting to attend last night. I wish there was a way I could reclaim two hours of my life. Maybe today I'll have time to cut the openings for the sliding doors on the observation car, IF nothing comes up. Knowing my father he'll probably come up with something. I still have to make the pieces for the foundation surround for the north engine house. The problem with that is that the work has to be done in the middle of the layout so I can only do it when I know I won't be interrupted. Actually feeling like spring weather now, temps are to reach the low 70's today, and still some snow on the ground from Monday's 6" of the white stuff!
howmus...darned well better not have cost me more than a couple of oil changes....... I put about 7000 miles on it the first year. My 7 year old Dakota on the other hand has at 60,000 miles, reached the pre-planned wearing out phase and I put about $800 into that for the 800 miles I drove it last year......... I still like the old girl and it is a lot better for hauling wood and the equipment trailer than the Yaris. I do have a friend who has a Toyota 4-runner over 25 years old. Last I heard it has over 350,000 miles on it. He was a Fire Chief for several years so in addition the thing has a few thousand hours sitting just off idle at fire calls. He still has it and now uses it just to plow snow. Original engine, transmission, and most everything else. Other than regular service and replacement of things like the timing belt, and battery, nothing has ever gone wrong with it. He replaced it for road use with a newer one (4 runner) 2 years ago. He was beginning to worry that a fender might fall off while driving down the thruway..........

It was 56F this morning when reveille sounded at 0600! Wow!I went to the blood suckers today, seems a lab tech DROPPED the purple tube of my blood yesterday. So I had to donate another blood sample. If this one gets dropped we may have a serious misunderstanding Monday morning.Jerry, I doubt the blood work will come back ok, I appreciate your concern and well wishes but it’s been off for the last 6 years and nobody caught the issue until now. Anymore the Docs are focused on the HDL and LDL numbers and don’t look too hard on the other results. Once this clears up I will be bringing this to the medical staff’s attention via the Admiral’s Master Chief.I haven’t hit the lottery yet so I have to get back to work, I’ll check in later.Lee

FIL had a seizure today. Wife left while I was still alseep to go help him. He has come back around since then. He had an appointment with a neurologist today anyway so I guess this is good timing, all things considered. My wife will likely spend the night with her folks to keep an eye on him.

This would allow for the wife to add canoes and create that scene from Deliverance. The cave idea is also a good solution. Will run these past the wife when she is home next.
***Jerry, the trestles were scratch built by someone else. I picked them up on the-bay. With limited time (and patience) this was the way to go for us.

Rob, didja take notes there? I'd pretty much agree, you could just have a deep ravine as the reason for either or both bridges/trestles, wouldn't have to be much of a river. Adding Barb to my P.L. (focus, rest and some relaxation for her, too). Good to see your progress on both layouts. I'd agree with Todd & Chris - we all can wind up with all these 'must haves' (in my case too many buildings) that we have NO idea how we're going to fit into our layouts...
Ray, sounds like Emily's one healthy granddaughter, and has a good set of lungs on her, too. I think you might also need to give the dog some attention, or else it'd better get used to feeling neglected for a while...

I wouldn't dare! That reminds me of the eve in the church this winter for a council meeting. It was a sloppy night out and I tracked some gunk in on my boots across the tile floor. The custodians daughter, a feisty little lady of about 13 who's about as cute as they come, tells me to stop and don't move. Leaves, comes back with a mop and with a perfect emulation of my mother pointing her finger at the end of an outstretched arm pointing in the general direction of the tracks........hands me the mop. Her Father who was there at the time just laughed and said, "I'm not arguing with her". I didn't either. Chris already has the "tools" at the ready. I'm not worried though. Found it! Only took two hours of time that should have been spent accomplishing things that should have been done yesterday. Checkbook was hiding on the floor underneath a bookcase by the computer. I figure that one of the cats knocked it on the floor and I kicked under there without knowing.
Zoe, what's good for lunch? Got to something quick. Got to go meet my new granddaughter, then walk the dog, do some banking and head out to the all county to see what I need to bring to do the recording tomorrow. Cheeseburger with fries sounds good, bring another coffee as well.

Well I snapped a couple of shots of the pizza/bait/repair shop. Keep in mind the camera ain't that great and the lighting in the room isn't good at all. I still have to add more. Another to-do list. Don't rub your eyes too hard. The backdrop isn't up and the wall is some hideous redish white pink color. The wife tried to get creative a few years ago (too much Design on a Dime. Gotta get rid of HGTV)and this color combo didn't work well (gag). But the ones upstairs turned out great. No red was involved though. So I just quickly airbrush tooled the wall out. Not trying to win any photo awards anyway.
It's far from done. I haven't added the interior and so since it's not done being "airlifted" to the bench, I haven't brought the ground up to the edges. Criticisms, and suggestions welcome of course. I posted it here instead of WPF because it's not done and I more just want to show you guys, and maybe get some tips than show it off. Besides I get to post something MRR related! Yee Haw!

Ryan slyly asks did I read the article in the online journal.? Why yes Ryan I did read YOUR article twice so far thank you (and an excellent article it is). Now all I have to do is get the results on my puter to mimic yours. After all, it was your article and Sue and Dukes advice that convinced me to take the plunge. The real problem I have is that even though I've been working on computers since the 60's, it is still not second nature for me and I still get easily thwarted.
Todd - I like what I see. Looks like the little places I've driven into a thousand times. I'll look forward to seeing how you finish it as that will really show the local (old Nehi soda sign or Dr Pepper or Moxie etc and an awnig of some sort over the entrance especially down south so you always have a cool spot in the sun). Meeting with THAT editor went just fine, even got very complimentary words of praise and thanks from Mr. Boss. Mr. Boss is owner/publisher, Mrs. Boss is editor. They're a quirky pair...but it works.
Working tonight, shooting a high school senior class vs. faculty/staff in volleyball. Should be an easy photo page. Sunday afternoon, have to sacrifice some of the race for a "dollars for scholars" event. Thursday has me at a meeting in Iowa City. The Chamber of Commerce thinks Mr. Obama firing up the printing presses and throwing bajillions of bucks around makes this the ideal time to bring AMTRAK to Iowa City (Chicago to IC through the Quads over the ex-RI Iowa Interstate). The Chamber is all a flutter, the University of Iowa is excited. No word yet from IAIS.
Best assingment coming up though, will be doing a story on an Air Force Sgt. from North Liberty who was awarded the Bronze Star. I'm looking forward to telling the story of an American HERO.
Oh yeah, regarding the mop and bucket, I just put the equipment where it would be readily availible to mitigate any...inadvertant releases of material. I was NOT offering to "drive" said equipment, nor standing by to rectify any situations arising from the inadvertant/unintended release of material... THAT said...hope all turned out well.
