Jeffrey- I have the same tanker sitting on my layout that I tried dirtying up. It just… doesn’t....um …look as good as yours. Nice job.

You'd be surprised what a good washing with alcohol will do to the color. I used it on mine and it faded the color right out.

I will take some med's for now.  Not feeling to good.  First I had a sore throat, now its all in my head.

Lost power last night for about 6 hours.  Got pretty cold in the house.

Weather wise, still snow/ice on the ground.  Calling for about a inch or so tonight.  WILL IT EVER END????

I guess I will take it easy today.  Mayeb just watch some tv, and relax.

I will be back in for lunch.

Whistling

Good Morning Crew,

Zoe, I'll have the "Hungry Man Breakfast" with hot chocolate and WC., Thanks.

ROB,   Please extend our very best wishes to your  Barbara for her Birthday.  Happy B-Day  You are one lucky Guy to have a wife who so enjoys the MMR bug.    And so is Larry with Sue.   I just think you should both be in the same scale.

We sure hope all came through the" Big Blow" unscathed. Our weather here has moderated back to regular winter temps. This week-end we are to have a couple of days above freezing as well. So now it will get sloppy to boot.  Oh Well, CN Charlie tells me it is only a couple of months to Boating     Weather.Captain

RYAN, Hang in there buddy, it is a tough road with those illnesses in the family. But stay healthy as they need you that much more right now. Our Prayers and blessings are with your family.  In fact Prayers, thoughts and blessings to all in need at this time.  This includes PC as well, those legs problems go right up and become a real pain in the a_ _.   When you get time, how about a few more menu items from the "California Zephyr",  we all need to be spoiled at times. Also the NP "Mainstreeter" and GN "Empire Builder",  that would be good too for us guys out west.Dinner

We have made some changes at work here and I will no longer have to work any Sundays. In fact one week-end I get Fri,Sat, Sun off and the next I get Sun, Mon, Tues off.  So a great improvement. To do this I had to give up 14 hours a month.  But well worth it, I think..Thumbs UpThumbs Up

How about that California Tom ?  He couldn't come up with any cougars for his layout so he adopts the neighbors cat.  Now he has three felines prowling the Yuba Sub.

Up here in the Great White North, I too had difficulty all last evening in getting on stream here.   OOOPs,OOps, OOOPs is all I could get.  Darn annoying,  I like to check in with the gang here before I go to bed whether I choose to post or not.

GMT,  I might have missed it, but did you get your house completely finished?  Between you and Rob, you guys have had quite a year.

Not much new to report on the "Wobbly".  I am still working on a control panel that is 52"x10" that will fit above the cabinet that holds my Control Masters and the layout on a 45 degree angle. This keeps it out of the aisleway as they are narrow enough as it is.

ConfusedHas anyone heard from Red Horse lately ?, he seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. I loved hearing from him, he has such a great passion and creativity and he really came a long way in a short period of time in perfecting his skills.

Well I had better make it look like I work here or my week-ends might get longer yet. So I'll check back in later when I get home.

Johnboy out...................

May the Rails never be Silent.

I'll have the Biscuit and Gravy with a few slices of Bacon with some of Ed's OJ Zoe. Am I the only one who drinks it?

Saute Rainbow Trout, please & thanks.

***UncaRoggie, definately sounds like Christmas.

Walthers sent a refund check for the stuff they must have sold out of while my original payment (check) was in transit. Good to know I can trust them. The wife still doesn't have a BigTop circus tent, so the search continues.

Have a great day, all.

Mornin' everyone!  (yep still morning, I just checked...)

I woke up this morning to find a message on my machine from the "crazy lady" up the street.  She is in her late 70s and is a complete sketch.   Her sister an BIL live right across the street from me.  He is the gentle an that gave me two huge Maple trees that he had cut down for firewood last summer (Some of you may remember from across the street in that other place).  Anyway he just had a heart valve replaced a couple weeks ago (he is 85 I think)  and had a pacemaker put in.  Now is having some congestive heart failure and is back in the hospital.  The lady up the street asked if I would clean out the driveway at her sister's house as she needs to get in there to help her sister and that her sister would pay me.  I told her, "Yes I will!  And no she won't!!!"  "That's why we are called neighbors!"  Anyway I waited untill I did both of my driveways and hers before poping in here for breakfast.

Zoe I'll have a tall stack of sourdough pancakes this morning and leave the jug of NY Maple Syrup right there on the table for me!  Oh, don't forget the pot of dark roast java in a FGLK mug!  Thanks!

We ended up with about about 10 inches of snow from the storm.  The wind picked up last night (25 to 40 MPH) so it got blown around a bit too.

I was locked out of posting here for at least 4 hours last night like many of you.  Judging by the lack of new posts during that time I assume most everyone else was too.  I had no problems with any other site at all.

Morning all from SunnyDrought-Stricken Cal.

Evidently the Powers That Be are about to declare a 3rd stage water emergency around here because Folsom Lake (one of our north state's larger reservoirs) is about at 5% capacity right now.  I was out there a couple of days ago, the place looks like a moonscape.  And no rain in sight for at least the next week.  We have a High Pressure system in the Pacific that just won't MOVE!   And that might explain the weather in the midwest and east, because all of the storms are being directed up through Canada, then curving down over the great Plains.

On another front, one of our four Catholic high schools in town is closing in June, the all-girl Loretto High School.  Declining enrollment.  The school has fallen from 600 to just a little under 300 students in two years.  Too bad, too--it's been around for 50 years and has a really substantial college-prep reputation (98% of the students go on to a four-year University).   But the economy has hit it hard--the tuition there is more than a lot of families can handle in these times.  Luckily, the other 3 Catholic high schools are in good shape.  I'll miss Loretto, they had a really FINE choir director there, and the past two years, we've combined our Jesuit Choirs with their girls for some really fine performances.  It's going to leave quite a void for good private education in town.

On the Feline Front, Wiezl has moved in lock, stock, barrel and Remington's favorite easy chair.  It's kind of entertaining to see a 19 pound Wegie being herded around the house by a little 7 pound furball.  She stays clear of Spooky, though, after being the recipient of one of Spooky's famous 'roundhouse' punches after Wiezl went for the Chicken of the Sea tuna in Spooky's food-bowl.  Ah, adjustment! Whistling

My buddy still hasn't found a Condo that isn't run by some 'Committee' right out of the National Socialist Party, so I may have Wiezl for a while.

I e-mailed Sunset out of curiosity about a shipping date for my Z-6.  Haven't heard from them yet.  Neither has Bruce.  I sure hope that they got enough interest to PRODUCE the darn thing!   But it's almost the end of January, and this is the month it was supposed to come out.  A friend of mine asked me if I really NEEDED another 4-6-6-4, I directed him to my 'tag' line at the end of any of my posts.  "ONE CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY ARTICULATEDS!"  He got the message, LOL! Tongue

PC:  Let us know what the exam and the x-rays turn up, okay?  We're in there pulling for ya!

Well, time to head to the kitchen table and work on yet ANOTHER Walther's Pullman that doesn't like my 34" minimum radius.  Tight truck, or screw-heads catching on the car floor, or something.  I know it's not the track, my track is PERFECT!  Whistling  Yah, now the REST of you tell one!

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Oh no here comes Robby.  Run he's sick!!!!  Dead

Just give me some OJ.

Yeah I still don't feel to good.  I normally get a call form my boss on Thursday afternoons to see if I will work tomorrow.  Man I feel bad.  Just not much energy, so I doubt I will go in.

I guess I will keep taking my over the counter meds for now.  Might head into the basement.  See what I can mess with on the layout.

Ok guys.  I'm leaving.  You can come out now.  Big Smile

Oh, I'm sorry.  I left you all hanging, didn't I?  I didn't mean to.  I tried getting in the door last night but all I got was the Ooops message.

They looked at it all, took x-rays, etc., etc., and in the end they agreed with the original diagnosis but added two new meds just for good measure.  They also gave me another day of bedrest.

Johnboy - The house unfortunately is dead stop now as the chief building inspector became involved and didn't like what he saw. We had  meeting with the insurance and the two contractors involved and the short story is a lot of the work inside from the first contractor will need redoing beyond what we've already done over. We're waiting for a letter from the city toitemize what they want and then it's back to the insurance company to get authorization for the second contractor to do the work as we refuse to let the first bunch back. We also need to hire an engineer to sort out the walls which are "hinged" which is no longer to code and is now an issue since the first bunch ripped off the entire roof and made it an issue. So work is stopped until all the issues are resolved.Banged Head  But thanks for asking.  J.R.

Good Morning Zoe, sorry 'bout not getting in yesterday (and it wasn't because of any forum problems!). The car was socked in in our parking lot, and it was like that one 'snow plows' gif that DerJohn has used before - where the plow showers all the snow on your road (or in my case, puts a 'snow dam' across our exit to the street...). I also wasn't having much success finding anyone with an open WiFi so I could get in to the Diner. Banged Head Zoe, I'll have the oyster stew and in honour of our semi-Canadian weather lately, the swiss steak and mushrooms, plus my usual RBF, please. Thanks!

[edit] And it looks like I'm covering lunch, so Zoe, better ring the lunch bell for the chowhounds.

In the counties south of Cape G., our local news said there were over 35,000 without power, and in Kentucky over 200,000 out of power, so you may want to keep those people in your prayers.

Mercifully, our power hasn't gone out, though it has a couple/three times dimmed briefly (split-second kind, where I would ask "Did that flicker?"). I dug out the car (for the second or third time) yesterday afternoon, but then got stuck in the snowbank when I tried to get the car out to the street.Black Eye Finally called up one friend, who came over just after nightfall with two shovels and got me dug out and the car onto the street (on the side out of the narrow traffic lane). I was able to get going this morning okay, but I took a different (less than 3 percent grade) route to work to minimize the worst of the hills. Lot of those 'ice-potholes' on some of the roads on the way, so a bouncy ride in parts.Yeehaw! Actually, going to work was described in my supervisor's call this morning as "At your discretion", but I was starting to get cabin fever, without being able to get in to the Diner. So, I decided to come in - besides, I figure that for the other two days out, I will have to use ETO, so if I came in I could get to the Diner and (nominally) be 'at w**k'...

Sawyer - congrats on introducing some of your fellow students to MRR'ing. If you have a Hobby Lobby or such in your area, that future MRR'er may be able to find some bargains on the starter sets there, since some places try to reduce their stock of them after Christmas. Might have him check that and online places for the best outfits and deals.

Sign - Welcome MononJim! Glad you decided to stop in the Diner. Have a cup on me.Thought I had seen your name on some posts out there in the forums (where they "don't waste the bandwidth"...Whistling

And Sign - Welcome also, Larson. Thumbs Up Good to see new MRR'ers in the Diner. We have several teen MRR'ers who stop by, and [ditto] about you having a good start with Sawyer as your resource person.Smile

PC - I'm really sorry I was out and missed your post, but have started AngelAngel for you. We do expect some updates as possible, okay? Yeah!! Get those germs kicked out pronto! Good to hear about your progress - but keep those doctor's appointments, and keep taking your meds. Yeah!!

Jeff. I like what you've been doing with your enginehouse (doors and all). Bow Looking forward to seeing more good photos once your new camera arrives and you get it broken in. Good price, too!Thumbs Up

Uh, Lee - it's okay with us if you post the pics on WPF AND bring those dessert goodies too, y'know. Really, we don't mind....Smile,Wink, & Grin

Tom, I'd second that vote on what the condo board should do with their rules. Sheesh! - what a bunch of A-R types... Shock (little w**k jargon there...)Whistling Sorry that you've been getting a taste of what we've been having, but hopefully that will help your spring water supply.

Ryan, continuing prayers for your Dad, and that he will make the best choice on his treatment (as well as prayers for you and the rest of the family). I would agree with Todd's comment on the "inherited health" deal. I've seen some health problems that skip one or more generations, or people make lifestyle changes that seem to take care of things. Sorry I missed the beef stew yesterday on the menu - bummer! Sad

Rob, a belated [#bday] to Barbara. On her trailers, are those RTR? If so, who makes them? Zoe, I know better than to ask, but is there any of that cake left? Dinner Oh...Sigh

Galaxy, good to hear your pipes are thawed out (for now). Hope the weather allows them to stay that way. Yeah!!

Unca Rog, I have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about in terms of waiting on a Walthers order. Nope, not a clue whatever...Whistling Glad your Athearn stuff got in. I have a bit of the same feeling about a New Haven boxcar (in this case, I believe it was an Accurail kit) - love the colors, and I want to get some NYC cars for that nice green. Yeah!!

Todd, loved your signature phrase. Laugh

last mountain & eastern hogger
Zoe, I'll have the "Hungry Man Breakfast" with hot chocolate and WC., Thanks.

Johnboy - is that the 'British' WC? OopsSmile,Wink, & Grin Haven't been out in the main forums lately, what were some of the topics that Red Horse would post on?

Ray, I could've used your shoveling skills yesterday (or even today) to clear the pile of snow across the entrance to our apartment building's parking lot. Of course, I have my doubts that the landlord would pay you for it... I'm sure your friend up the street appreciated your help. Yeah!!

Ah, here comes my lunch, so I'll (as I heard many years ago) "Let your food stop your mouth"...  Prayers for better weather in your area, driveable roads, and for healing and comfort for all those in need of it (which might be several of us and family members).

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

AHA!  I just logged onto Walthers to track the order I made awhile ago, and finally saw some INFORMATION:

Order filled at their Wisconsin warehouse;

package received at sorting depot in Wild Gooseneck, New Jersey;

loaded on the back of a seventy-two year old tortoise, at Freeloaders Gulch, Nebraska;

spotted crawling along Highway 15B at 6:45 am, January 27th, just outside of Hogs Anus, Georgia;

picked up by a bald eagle whose talons just missed decapitating the tortoise, in a parking lot of the Piggly Wiggly store, in downtown Barfaloma, New Hampshire, on January 28th;

received at the Chino, California Bird Sanctuary and Exotic Dancing Emporium, at 3:15 am this morning.

Sounds like its getting close!  It'll be another Christmas morning for me, soon!

Man, I really went on a spending spree this week. In one day I bought a SM card for my Olympus D550Z camera, a new Nikon L18 camera so I can get the kind of close-up shots I've been wanting to do and a #5 right-hand turnout so I can split the track going to the north engine house. That comes to a total of $202.43. The train budget is gonna be kinda slim for a couple of months or so while I get that paid down. My credit card is smoking!

Might look to add some of those "kits" by NuComp at a later date, but we (I) do not want to get bogged down building kits with so much else to do already. Anything RTR or close to it is a big Plus right now.

It sounds like I'm defending Walthers.  Via USPS, date ordered 01-21-09(online order), packed 01-22-09,  recieved on the porch(placed, not thrown) 01-27-09. 4 items ordered 4 items shipped. I quess I should consider myself one lucky guy from what I've been reading.  I order on line maybe once a month and except for an item I knew was discontinued, I get what I order.  But then like I said once before I order undec. items.

Fedex is interesting.  I tracked a package that was picked up in Phili, PA, sent to Wash DC, then to Newark, NJ, then to Lakewood NJ dist. center.  The Lakewood center is 40 miles form Phili...... I live 15 miles from Lakewood.... Then, the driver couldn't find the house.  There are 24 houses on the block, Next door is #929  on the other side is #925.  I guess he couldn't see the #927 on the porch column on my house......

Enough of my pointless, meandering writings.  Headed up home again tomorrow.  Trying to find a place for dad when the hosp throws him out.  At least I get to visit my LHS up home.  Heck of a reason to go.

He drives a Water truck in oil patch...

Doesn't he know that water and oil don't mix? Clown

That's why they use it. The crude around here is what's called heavy or hard crude. It's to heavy to flow well and hard to refine.

Most the wells produce salt water [some wells produce 2 barrels water/ one barrel oil] and can't be dumped out on the ground. It either has to be hauled for EPA disposal. Or it's injected back into the oil field [usually an old out of produce well in the middle of the pump field] to help bring the pressure up and help increase the flow. Every so often an industrial type detergent is also injected with the water, to wash the crude into the pump wells.

At least that's the way I understand it anyhow.

Unca Roggie!!!    NAW!!! I knew you were just kidding around!!  Besides, there's no Wild Gooseneck NJ, though we do have millions of wild geese. Still, there are those interlopers who obviously read us, but choose not to join us because they think they are better than we are, always bashing people, or companys because they didn't get things the way they wanted, We've seen that on other threads.....  I guess I sound too serious sometimes, sorry.

Umm, Zoe? Could I get a cheeseburger deluxe and an unsweetened ice tea? Thanks

Eric

Rob: I really wanted the trailer (the BLUE one, on top, above) as my family lived in one just like it, back in the late 50's (although, I'm not sure why I wanted something to bring back THOSE memories...my bed was the top of a bunk type, in the middle of that long tube, and when I'd get up too quickly, I'd smack my head on the ceiling.  Hmmmnnnn...that may explain a lot, come to think of it.)

In any event, Walthers had those on special, and maybe there were too many like me looking for old time memories, as it was out of stock by the time I put in an order.

last mountain & eastern hogger

You are one lucky Guy to have a wife who so enjoys the MMR bug.    And so is Larry with Sue.   I just think you should both be in the same scale.

You mean, so is Sue with Larry?LaughLaughLaugh

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.

Or visa-versa...... ???

Evenin' all!

This afternoon became one of those "I'll never get this all done" afternoons.  Waited around for a phone call and as soon as I made arrangements to have the party stop in at 11AM tomorrow to pick up some stuff, my son called.  He has a 10:15 appointment at the vets tomorrow for a check up for their new doggie (little beagle they adopted from the shelter).  He needs me to go along with him to watch my granddaughter while he takes the dog into the room at the vets.  I bet you know what my answer was....Big Smile   Luckily the vet is only a short block from where I live and usually runs on time.  I had to leave right after he called to drop off some CDs at Church for the choir rehearsal tonight (had to be there before the secretary left for the day) then get my allergy shots, do some banking, and then grocery shopping.  Just sent the original caller an e-mail saying, "call before you come over."

On the USPS/UPS/Fed Ex conversation, I have had pretty good luck with all of them with the exception of a couple times with Fed Ex.  They seem to get lost easily.  When I bought my Top-Side Creeper a coupl years ago, it came in a tractor trailer.  The driver called me as he couldn't find my street.  He was several blocks away in a residential section and couldn't turn most of the corners with the semi.......  I finally figured out where he was and got him back over to the main drag and gave him some alternate directions to get to my house.  He finally arrived with the package.  In order to get off my street, he had to back the truck up past the side street and make as wide a turn as he could running up both on my lawn and the lady across the streets lawn......  I didn't mind as far as my lawn was concerned, but lucky the lady across the street was not home at the time, or both the truck driver and I would have gotten a tongue lashing!!!  The other problem I have had with Fed Ex is their requiring a signature and having to sit and wait all day for them and they never show up.....  I finally got a "leave it on my doorstep without a signature form" signed and mailed to them and haven't had that problem since.

BTW, did you hear that UPS and Fed Ex are planning to merge.  New company will be called.......

Fed UPS!  (I know, I know, that is an old one....Sorry!)

Oh hi Zoe, I'll have the Oyster Stew for starters, the Prime Rib, Baked Potato, sour cream, and a fresh garden salad (imported from California) with Blue Cheese dressing, and a cup of decafe.  I'll order dessert later.

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

AAH--to be home again. Roads to the north of us remain snowcovered hence I'm watching people either sliding into the ditch--phoned police for one--guy was drunk(YEESH--and driving--***) Then there was the indecisive one--where am I? How'd I get here?--that kind of scenario---

Parcel turned out to be harness loom Audrey was getting from the antique store--so it turned out to be heavy and odd shaped---

So with Spring butting the compooter screen and purring up a blue streak, I'll order up a giant platter of roast beef on a bun and a coffee and attend to a curled up purrmotor----
