howmus [edit] Philip, somehow missed your post! I had that about about 4 and a half years ago. Came on during a Boy Scout Camporee that I was in charge of. Waited a few days and finally decided to call my doctor. I was convinced that I had a deep vein blood clot and was scared to death! They sent me over to the hospital for an ultra sound that ruled out a clot, and put me on some mega antibiotics. Went back every couple of days for a week and was on the meds for around 3 weeks. I came close to having the IV antibiotics. Hope you will be feeling better very soon. You are in my prayers sir!

Left leg. It started hurting at the end of my sitting on a wooden bench doing registration for the Camporee for about 4 hours on Friday evening. By the next morning it was on fire. I managed to stick it out for the remainder of the weekend but was sick as a dog. I think I got to the doctors on Tuesday. The Physicians asstant that I say gave me "you know what" for not getting to the emergency room Sunday or Monday. It took a couple of months before my leg really was completely healed and felt right. Of course there are many different bacteria that can cause it. I was lucky to have responded to the antibiotic quite quickly. Had to wear a compression stocking for about a month if I remember right.

PC,Ray; I had a friend who got cellulitis while camping north of here. By the time--about a week--he got to the doctors he was placed into the hospital and was stuck there for 3 weeks!!

Eric- I don’t have much to say about that. Just thought I’d use some bandwidth. I been watching that and was gonna throw Sushi bar in the buffet but I don’t complain to the management, I just walk on by theory but I figured why. Some people want to complain and there isn’t anything you’re gonna do about it. I bet they only talk trains at their MRR club meets too. I must admit I chuckled when I noticed one who was complaining about MRR subjects and waisted etc. Posted a thread about setting up web sites. I chuckled but others responded so someone was interested.
Then of course there is the ones who think their way of MRR’ing is the only way.

Barry- Our wetherguessers were kinda wrong here too. We were supposed to get up to 4 by tonight and so far we’ve had a dusting. I for one am glad they were wrong. I just hope our icy friends come out OK.

Evening all from SunnyCal. Clear here. High of 40 today, wind-chill took it to 20, weatherman says it might warm up to 45 by the weekend. Where did THIS come from? Anyway, it's here. Wrapped the outside pipes this evening, going to let a couple of the faucets drip tonight. Holy Cow, like I said, if you get bored with the weather around here, just WAIT five minutes. Two days ago it was rain.
Got a phone call from my son in Illinois, he and my daughter in law had to go on an emergency trip to Arkansas this week, her father died. Never met the man, but talked to him on the phone a couple of times after Tommy and Anna got married--he seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Died of a brain tumor, he was about 3 years younger than me. Tommy and Anna went to Illinois to spend time with his kids before returning to Washington, they're caught in an ice storm. They're hoping to get out by this weekend if the weather clears. They've got quite a trek ahead of them, I'm a little worried about them heading through Iowa, Nebraska and up to Washington through Idaho, but Tommy says they're prepared. He's driving. God knows what the weather is going to be like.
Eric: I wouldn't worry about the waste of band-width. Without causing a furor, let's just say that there are people on the Forum who haven't discovered how much fun the Coffee Shop is. Or prefer not to visit us. 'Nuff said.
Jeff: That constant improvement on your layout makes me feel like I'm the laziest person on earth! I go out and fiddle around, you just go and DO it! I really like that engine-house. Dang, I can't wait until Spring when I can go out and really start getting the Yuba River Sub back into shape!

PC: Take care of that leg, buddy. That does NOT sound like fun. Just wondering, but has the doctor also checked you for Phlebitus? Having gone through that, some of the symptoms sound similar. You're DEFINITELY on the Prayer List at my Parish. Rest up and do everything that they tell you to do, I MEAN it!
Nothing much new around here. Oh yah--the continuing saga of three cats--my buddy has found the perfect Condo. They don't allow pets, you have to keep your garage door closed at all times unless you're opening it to drive your car in, you cannot repaint the interior walls except in the colors that the Commitee chooses, and please do not smoke on the balcony. He asked me what I think about this, since the Condo is a pretty good price. I told him to tell the Committee to go SCREW themselves and see what they tell him. And look for another Condo that is not run by Uber-LIberal-Nazi's.
Meanwhile, his cat Wiezl and Remington are tearing up the house. Spooky is NOT amused, but no fights yet. And I have to admit, that if he has to leave Wiezl here for another two weeks to a month to a year to forever, I sure as HELL am not going to object. She's just a little 7-pound HOOT!

I got the work done on the engine house doors yesterday effectively making them into one large door. 12F here with the wind chill factored in and we have a little over 2" of the 3 to 5 forecast. Very slippy this morning driving to w..k. I hope those of you in need of healing get better - seems we're going through another rough patch here in the diner. I'm ok still but the CFO twisted the knee she's had 4 surgeries on and is hurting a bit so I'm keeping an eye on that.
PC - do take care with the bacterial infection and follow all the docs instructions. I've had a couple of friends contract this stuff and it can be really serious.
Inch - hope the meds help and the warmer weather we'll get eventually lessens the pain. The cold really bothers me now so I try to stay warm and out of the weather this time of year.
Sawyer - sounds like you did a good job teaching. We have an afterschool class of 3rd and 4th graders at a local school we're doing an introduction to model railroading program with and it can be really worthwhile. This years bunch is a bit rowdy but if we can keep the energy harnessed they'll get farther than the previous classes.
Well, lots to do in the shop again today and I'm sure someone else needs the bandwidth back to launch a complaint so toodles for now. CUL, J.R.

Morning, all. Chloe, I don't care what you give me, just make it a stiff one. Snow is knee deep here and still falling, my 20 minute commute to work took about an hour and a half (got stuck twice). I'm plumb wore out and the day's really not even started yet!

It's 16 out now and it looks like we got another 6 or 8" of snow between yesterday afternoon and this morning n it's still snowing, might another 1" before it ends, according to the weather guessers. At least there's no wind to speak of YET and praying we don't. As light n fluffy as this stuff is, it'll drift up fast n deep in a hurry. I was telling Mother a couple weeks ago that it had been bout 30 years since we had our last blizzard and I figured that's was next, with all the other mess we've had this winter.
School here finally said they were closing for the day, so I'm stuck with Beth all day and maybe Clyde's 3 kids if Heather's called to come in.
Pat called abouit 5 n said the kids weren't coming out this morning. Guess him, Shila n Leroy [KC's fine] all are all down with a bug or something.

TODD,,,, I've been drawing SSI for about 7 years now, thanks to herniated disc and degenerative arthritis in my neck, lower back and some joints. So, most of my discs and some other joints no longer have any connecting tissue or cushions to hold them in place [I'm almost 3"short now than 10 years ago]. I have to be real careful, even something simple like getting out of bed or sneezing can put me down.
JIM CG,,,, glad your still going over your way even with this mess [sorry Fergie] and keeping power. And I'm trying to stay away form anybody who's got a sore throat.

PC,,,, you best stay on the doc's orders to a T with that infection. My BIL had surgery last spring for a broken wrest [after a 4-wheeler wreck] and got and infection. Took 6 months of anti-biotic pills and IV's every other day at the doc's office, to clear it up. He almost lost his arm a couple times.

TOM,,, sorry to hear bout your son's FIL passing. If the kids can wait till Fri to leave, they shouldn't have to much trouble with the weather. There's storm out that way now, that suppose to be here Thrus afternoon [another round of snow for us].
Well, Mother wouldn't listen to me again after I told to stay home till the snowplows went through,[there'd already been one guy try to go through bout 5:30 and couldn't make it with 4 wheel drive] but no, she had to go to work right now. She made it to the end [out the east end, no hills that way] of our road [bout a mile in 10 minutes] n got stuck, she called me. Luckily Beths feller [Durwood] spent the night here after he got off work at 3 am [in the spare bed room] rather than drive to Casey. So I went n woke him up and bout the time he got up n moving, Deb's brother had stopped on his way to work and her got free. Mike said the highway wasn't to bad, so she went on. She finally called n she she'd made it, and that that none of her tecs had made it in.
Worked on the layout some last evening, mostly the main roads into town. Hope to get that down n ready for paint today.
I best gets round, it took me 3 hours to clear a path to the car and I still need to clear the back door and the shed doors yet. Don't worry I go out for a little bit then come back in, lay down abit, plus work on this post some. Thoughts n prayers for all those in need an ya'll have a gooden.

Heya! This is my first full winter up in PA and I must admit... the roads are horrible! I didn't think I would have any issue with only 2-3" on the ground with a slight ice crust on top. Never had an issue the 5 years I was in update NY. Is it like this state wide or is it just the local plow crew slacking off?

I can say the city crew does pretty good on our street. I don't know if that is due to the chief of police living across the street from me, or they are doing there job.
The wife and I are wondering to try to get to the casino or not. PennDot says I-70 is clear. I don't think its worth it.
I can say the street people do better than the ones in NC. It was days before they would hit our street down there.

Unfortunately I awoke to snow. Fortunately not as much as could have been and no ice. Weatherguessers called this one OK. About an inch. S’posed to get to a blistering 22 today. Lots of school closings south of Springfield. We were right above the line of yucky I guess. That was one big ice storm that went through (or is it still around I haven’t looked today) I hope everyone is safe and doing at least OK.
Tom- Prayers for a safe journey for your son & DIL. Those people are probably afraid to come in. They just might enjoy another side of MRR, the people. And what do you mean you can’t leave the garage door open! Just where do they expect you to stand, scratch your stomach and wave at the neighbors when they drive by? Good advice!!
