IT LIVES!!!!!!

I mean, ........I LIVE!!!!!!!!!

I woke up this morning to much less pain!  I can walk with some semblance of normalicy!  Don't really think I need to go to the doctor in our fresh 6 inches of snow we got last night, but the wife will probably make me go anyways (See Tom, I'm getting a second opinion.....and I'll ask about that).  Oh, and BTW, thank you all for the prayers and support!

So I'm stuck not being able to work for the rest of the day.......doctors orders.  Guess I can do my schoolwork though.  Thats good, I need to get on that!

So what do you folks have going on for today?

EDIT:  Everyone,........time to load up, you chow hounds!  I'll let the girls serve ya since ya probably don't want to meet my new "friend" personally.  I'll just give Chloe here my card......thank you my dear.......and you all can see what you can do about ruining my financial status!

Philip that is a good sign!  Still, if you can, get to the doctor's appointment.

Since you are buying.......... Zoe I'll have the #2 Special, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sourdough toast.  And a bottomless cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug!

Snowing pretty good here i the Finger Lakes this morning. got about 3 or 4 inches so far.  We should get between 9 and 12 inches of fluffy white stuff by midnight tonight.  I will be out the door to drive to Canandaigua for a doctor's appointment in a few minutes.  Hopefully the main road is plowed and salted.  I figure the snowplow should start working my street just before i leave......

Stay safe and warm!

[edit] Right on schedule, the $%#@#$^%& snowplow just went down my street!!!

Me too!  I made it all the way over to rts. 5 & 20 (about 3/4 of a mile), turned around, and came back home.  Called the Dermatologist office and told them, "No way am I driving to Canandaigua in this!".  The receptionist said, "I don't blame you, no problem."  So we rescheduled for a month from now.

So now to get to work on some other must do item for today. Most of which require me staying inside....Smile,Wink, & Grin

Chow time, how bout another irish coffee, a BLT and a big piece of warm apple please Zoe.

Snowplow came through bout 8 and the snow had pretty well ended by then. Sun started shinning through bout 8:30 or so. Temps up to 21 now and the wind isn't bad, so it kinda nice out now. Have been clearing some snow, but I'm in no big hurry to get it done. Other than a doc appointment round 3, nothing else is going on, besides getting some pellets in before dark.

PC,,, good to hear your up n moving some better anyway.

Have spent some time foolin round on the layout, but nothing done to speak of.

So catch ya'll laters maybe.

Afternoon folks!

Phone call with my dad was not good news last night. Docs gave him three options for treatment of the prostate cancer. The only good news is that the biopsy from bone scans were negative, but the biopsy of the prostate showed up to 60% cancer cells in one of the lobes. Apparently the other lobe was clean, but they have to treat the entire gland. Also, his lymph nodes in the groin region are also swollen.

So his options are for the laproscopic surgery to remove the prostate and the lymph nodes also, or start two forms of radiation treatments. He has not decided yet what course of action to take.

PC, glad to hear you are doing better now!

Will play catch-em ups later, but for now here are some tasty morsels for specials in the TS Diner today!

Mornin'!

Snowin'!

Ain't that the truth! At least it warmed up and the drain finally defrosted again! Hope it stays warm.

 @Robby:

Heya!  This is my first full winter up in PA and I must admit... the roads are horrible!  I didn't think I would have any issue with only 2-3" on the ground with a slight ice crust on top.  Never had an issue the 5 years I was in update NY.  Is it like this state wide or is it just the local plow crew slacking off?

Here where I am in upstate NY they dont even put the plow blade to the ground until there is 3". Or snowing 1 inch an hour. So yes, the roads here can be a bit nasty ugly bad disgusting slippery until that 3 inches happens.

February is here...winter is humming along but not fast enough for us!!!Whistling

Hawaii is still looking good. If only we had some money to go.....BUT we can't leave with frozen pipes happening. Alas. {sigh}

I got a nice HOT batch of fresh Chocolate Chip COOKIES for anyone who wants some to go with their hot chocolate!!!Dinner

Sign - Welcome to the new guys! I saw a few! Great li'l diner here for a bite to eat and some good conversation. We're mostly whining about the weatehr here now. Have some cookies and hot chocolate on me! Dinner

If I had some energy and gumption I'd get about a kit and build it. But can't use the airbrush indoors this time of year. Alas. {sigh} Need to clean track too. Had a visitor the other day who is interested in model trains and wanted to see DCC in action. I found {since I haven't run trains since before hospitalization in Nov.} that the track was a bit dirty. Need to clean it and gleam it. Need to build the extention on the layout and relay track. Now who saw my get-up-and-go go and where DID it go?

Have a fine day everyone, and have some COOKIES!

in a SOUTHERN mug, please & thank you!

My wife's Birthday is today, so she (Barbara) baked an extra large "square" Vanilla Cake with Chocolate frosting. I pre-tested a slice to make sure it wasn't laced with anything...all is well so dig in folks.Smile,Wink, & Grin I would have baked it, but she beat me to it.

For her birthday gift, I ordered 3 trailer homes she wanted for her layout.

Afternoon everyone, Chloe,  I'll have a decaf and a slice of cherry cheesecake.

Some new faces I see, I'm pretty new myself.  The folks here are great, and you know what?  They're all MRR's!  People here realize the hobby is supposed to be FUN!!

You know, I don't even know what Bandwidth is!!!   Don't care, I'll look it up but I'll leave it at that.  (I know now, terms a bit misused)

We seem to have a few people in need.  Bless you all and get well. My folks have recieved many prayers here.  (They are still fighting but not doing well)

Called in at 5:00am for snow, all 3 inches of it!  It soon turned to rain, and I was soon shoveling slush.  Snowblowers don't do to well with slush.

check in later, Eric

Well, I'm back from the hospital. They poked and prodded me a bit, and took some X-rays, then gave me a couple more perscriptions and sent me on my way.

And Rob, tell the little lady..........

There is a warm, (well sort of, 42F), wind blowing in from the ocean side.  Still, the cats are inside.  Augustus sitting on the arm of the sofa, and Caesar, in the Walthers box that arrived yeaterday containing the HO Atlas tank cars and the Walthers undec. troop conversion express cars that were on sale.  I rarely have a problem with "in stock" at Walthers.  But then maybe my expectations are lower than others.  Most hobby manufacturers are small operations, or they produce for multiple brand names per spec. It's not like GM is building these things for the masses...  Plus on sale items are usually limited in availability anyway.  I find that undecorated items don't sell as well as finished items.  That's fine by me, I like to paint when I get the chance... which isn't often.

Enough from me, Eric

Evenin everbody. Crawfish Monique please. And a glass of water. Thank you. Late night had two meetings at church. Finance and Trustees. Not really that hungry but I was just dying to try this stuff.

Not much happened today. .Actually, nothing happened.

PC glad you’re feelin better. Hope the tests turn out good.

Ryan- this is delicious thanks for the recipe. Unfortunately all we get around here is those flat packaged frozen mudbugs from china that are about as big as the tip of your pinky finger. They are pre seasoned too. I’ll try those things but I would assume that shrimp would work well also. I know it wouldn’t taste the same but those crawdads have an extra taste to them that would effect the flavor of the dish. I’ll try it anyway. Then with the shrimpies later. I notice you choose Crystal and not Tabasco. Is there a reason. I personally prefer Crystal myself as I’m not that fond of Tabasco. I can’t really explain but it’s a taste thing. Your Dad is in my prayers.

Rob- Happy B-day to your wife

Barry - Apparently you are not having any problems with the forum. Neither am I but it sure seems others are doesn’t it.

Kinda quiet in here tonight. I hope it’s ‘cause ya’ll are having computer problems and not power problems at home.

Gonna poke around the back a bit then head fer bed. Prayers for those in need

Hi, kids....I mentioned that I'd come back here with a report on how things went, ordering a bunch of bluebox Athearn items, and so forth, from the San Diego online outfit called Hobby Central:

I'd asked for about 14 items, and was relieved to tear into the box (which showed up via UPS exactly six days after I made the order) like it was Christmas morning, and find the exact lineup of stuff I'd expected.

Man, its fun to see IN YOUR HAND, something you've seen only in MRR or catalogs, since you were eleven years old.  I held up the State of Maine boxcar (the only RTR item I bought, as they no longer offer it as a kit) to my wife, expecting her to really admire it, given it has so much COLOUR to it, unlike the tuscan red of the rest of what came.  She rolled her eyes.

I've salivated for that lousy boxcar, since I first saw it in the 1960 Athearn catalog, for $1.89  Its now $14 (seven times as much) almost 50 years later....which, really, in comparative terms, isn't that bad: I recall a 5 pack of Juicy Fruit gum, back then, running FIVE CENTS...and while I haven't bought ANY gum for several decades, I betcha it now has only THREE pieces and is a buck twenty-five.

Meantime, instead of earning 50 cents an hour working in my stepfather's neon sign shop (being why I didn't spring for that $1.89 then) I just worked out that I now earn 178 times that wage, each hour, today.  (So, maybe its better I DID wait, eh?)

AND ALSO MEANTIME: I'm still waiting for some word that the WALTHERS order I did at that same time, is going to actually HAPPEN.

Morning Zoe, I see it's still quiet in here, a bit early, the sun isn't up yet here by the sea.  Zoe, I'll have  decaf (coffee good, caffine bad) before I head to work, Thanks!

How come people have problem getting on this forum or is it just this thread?  Things were a bit slow but I figured it was the browser,  All my sites were slow.  Also, I've never had any 'time out' issues.  Could it be the ISP and that bandwidth rate capacity thing?

I was hoping to do some kind of train stuff this weekend but it looks like I have to head to the homestead again.  Things are not going to well with either parent.

Time to head out to work, Eric

 Good morning.

It's just below freezing here at 31 and it's cloudy. The high is expected to be in the high 50's and it will be partly cloudy. Friday is coming into view and will soon be in torpedo range!

Well I went camera shopping yesterday. I looked at the ones at Walgreen's but none were set up for demonstration so I went over to Wal-Mart. Try as I might I couldn't find the Kodak Easy-Share 713. The Kodak Easy-Share 813 was on display however so I tried it. The results were less than spectacular. It worked OK from a distance but had a lot of trouble with close-up shots, even with no zoom. By close-up I mean within a foot. I tried several others, some just didn't seem to balance well in my hands (no feeling there) and weren't easily held onto. Then I came across a Nikon Cool-Pix L18. I seem to remember somebody telling me they had great success with one of these. I tried it and found it extremely easy to use, easy to hold onto and balance and was essentially point and shoot. I tried several shots with it and was quite pleased. One shot was of the store shelf and was within six inches at full zoom. It was crisp and clear. The focus was so sharp I thought I might get cut. I checked the price. Not bad, just under $100. I looked for one on the shelf and wouldn't you know it, out of stock. Well all is not lost. Upon returning home I did an internet search for it. I found a lot of places that advertised it but most had a message that I really dislike. Out of stock / discontinued. After searching more sites than I care to count I finally located one and for $20 less and with free shipping. I checked the availability to be sure. Yep, it was there. I immediately ordered it and it should be here within a couple of weeks. Does this mean I'll stop using the old Olympus? Not on your life! I'll keep using it until it either shrivels up and dies or I can no longer get cards for it. There are a couple of cards on the way but there's no guarantee they'll work. At present I have one operational SM card (64MB) and I get error messages on it periodically.

Good Morning people--We are going to a high of -6C and a low of -13C tonight, all this with a bit of light snow in the forecast today. We will be on the plus side of things for the first time since---oh, the beginning of January?

Well, I'll have a coffee and a muffin to go please--today promises to be a busy one--clients to see and I have to attempt to get the books in where they belong at some point today.

As well, very odd goings on last night --I saw a bunch of postings from newcomers with a few readers--nill responders; blanks; some general statement type postings and saw that I had an interesting time getting on---let alone posting. I'd post but find OOOPPS messeges instead of what I posted! I'd recycle the thing---the post would be there but what was with all this OOOPPS stuff? And this was over three browsers and two ISPs----

Any argument carried far enough will end up in Semantics--Hartz's law of rhetoric Emerald. Leemer and Southern The route of the Sceptre Express Barry

I just started my blog site...more stuff to come...

I went through all that myself. I tried getting on with Firefox, Chrome and Virus Magnet - er - Internet Explorer, all to no avail.

Good Morning All,

I'll have a regular coffee and a blueberry muffin please.  About 22F outside but sunny. We got about 6" of snow yesterday before it started drizzling rain on top of it. This morning everything is icy but passable though two of my crew have called in as they can't navigate out of their driveways so north of here is worse.

Unc - I've never had an issue with Walthers though i do the oredering online and always check to see if the item is in stock and for that matter usually order what's on special. The warehouse is massive and well laid out as I saw on a tour there last year but with the shear number of items carried and all the vendors to deal with I'm suprised more stuff isn't out of stock. Out of curiosity, what would a State of Maine potatoe car be doing all the way out in Cali on the F&A when you have lifetime supplies in Idaho and I think Porterville? Special shipment of cranberries perhaps or did you just need to have that car? (Like the Sante Fe hoppers I have just because they look cool.)

Ryan - we'll keep your dad in our prayers along with Erics' parents and the rest of you in need.

Hope the rest of you weathered the last storm ok and are safe and sound. I need to get back into the shop so for now, CUL,  J.R.

Morning everyone! Malted Waffles with warm maple syrup please Chloe!  Hot coffee and some fresh squeezed OJ too please!

I want to thank you all who have put my dad in your prayers. I've really been trying to get through this ordeal too, you know they say the health of your parents and grandparents will most likely dictate how your health will turn out, so I am struggling with coping with all this now too. Keep the prayers coming! They are appreciated more than your will ever know! Angel

Last night I could not get to any forum threads on any of the MR forums not just this thread, the entire forum site was down for some time.

I've been meaning to drop by this place for some time, looks pretty inviting through the window. Plus, I just enjoy wasting bandwidth... Laugh

Welcome to the Diner Jim and Larson too!  But Jim, it's no waste of bandwidth at all....in fact I've met some really nice folks here and made some great friendships along the way. There is more to the Diner than meets the eye....might be a lot of chaff and chit chat to sort out, but there is a hidden silver lining here if you stick around long enough to get to know folks....

Tom, sorry to hear about the loss in the family. Thoughts and prayers.Angel

Todd, just for you my man! Ask and....well... you know the rest... And yes, shrimp or any protein can be used in place of the crawfish tail meat. I prefer Crystal hot sauce because it has a milder heat factor and not as much vinegar taste, and it does not overpower the flavors of the main ingredient, but adds to the flavor profile. While Tabasco makes everything taste like, well Tabasco, and it masks the true flavor of the main ingredient. And thanks so much for the prayers also.

Jeff, we have a Kodak Easyshare 6330 that is about 8 years old and 3 megapixel, it still works great and even records movies too. They are a good point and shoot type camera.

And for today's menu treats here are the specials in the TS Virtual Diner....

(yawn) Mornin’ everbody. Coffee and a bowl of Alpha-Bits please. And some cinnamon raisin toast too. Thank you

Got up late this morn. Don’t know why just felt good to do it.

Boy I got top post and got off easy with all the web troubles

I’m glad you’re talkin about the oops messages last night. Got here nothing from last night went back 5 pages, nothing, no oops posts, nothing. Like a dream. I had trouble but only when I’d hit the back arrow. Like it was trying to find where I was. If I clicked it again it would go immediately to where it should be since I did click the arrow twice. Just the immediate page back was a prob. Other than that all was good. I don’t think ISP’s are the prob, nor browzers, nor posting sizes, nor pictures nor how wide your bands are. Because if I get any problems with this site, it happens indiscriminately. If I leave a page and come back it’s width may be different with no new posts. It may load a bit slower with no new posts. Don’t know nuttin bout compooters, but it just seems if these were the probs then they would be consistent with the situations blamed.Confused

Jeffrey- I have the same tanker sitting on my layout that I tried dirtying up. It just… doesn’t....um …look as good as yours. Nice job.

Ryan- Rest assured you also arein our prayers for the strength to get through this. Don’t let the “bloodline" theory get you. I doesn’t always work that way. It had to start somewhere and it will end that way too. And the Tabasco description. I can only say “yeah!! That’s how I would explain it if I could.”Laugh

Ooooooo. Oyster stew. (drool rolling out of mouth ) I’ll be back in for a bowl of that Mmmmm. You ladies are going to have a good homemade crusty bread with that , right?

Well best get moving maybe I can get in early this afternoon and spend some time in Toddavania (of which I’m King).

See ya’ll Todd
