Emeraldisle,

Are you referring to a six axle Baldwin "Babyface" diesel?

Pennsylvania and Seaboard Air Line had these and I believe were the only roads. Attractive, but mechanical nightmares for the guys that maintained them.

Doggy,

The SD70 MAC (But what's the other designation - SD60 MAC dates to 1991?)

My front truck has 2,
My rear truck(s) have 4,
I spent lots of time on tight curves
I used to have a steam generator

You will need model designation, roadname, and number to qualify

Actually, you're correct about the unit, to be specific, it's the DR 6-4-1500, however the two roads that had them were the Seaboard and the NYC. Pennsy had the Centipede.

GREAT GUESS.[:)][:)]

The name that NYC gave to them was "GRAVEL GERDIES" because of their rough riding qualities, that brought about the truck chg.

O.K,

Let me take a swing at this with an easy one.

Im a pretty strong old boy. I'm retired (perhaps extinct)now.
There were only a few like me.
Got 16 feet.
Have two tough beating hearts.
I worked hard but I was often thirsty for fuel.
I pulled my weight out in the American desert and western states quite a bit.
Only two railroads adopted me.
My not too distant ancestors were basically full of HOT AIR.
And people have said that my almost flat face and two huge eyes reminds them of FRANKENSTEIN!

Well, what am I?

METRO!

That was a Homerun!

I was sure that some people were going to guess that it was one of the articulated steamers.

Thanks for playing! [:D][tup]

Ok I got a good one!
Time for an electric:

I started life as a brick on wheels
Then Raymond Lowey restyled me
With my new streamline skin I pulled in the northeast
I am NOT a GG1.
I'm covered in vents and rivets

How about this one:

I was built by a famous locomotive builder.

I was a good puller, but only 3 of me were built.

I hauled heavy frieght, but was in the shop more than pulling frieght!

I am a passenger locomotive, only used in the East.

I was built from components of other locomotives, but using none of the parts of the unit I most closely resemble.

There are only five units in this class.

No!

Some more clues!

The locomotive is a rebuild. While in the East, it is a long way South, too!

Sorry, I don't ask a good question!

Think about a commuter diesel that was literally assembled from parts of two different freight locomotives.

OK.

I give up!

My question was about the Miami Tri-Rail F40PHL-2.

These locomotives were built by Morrison Knudsen, using the frame of a GP-40 and the cab and a shortened cowl body from an F-45.

The locomotive shared no common body parts with the real F40PH, and was longer.

Someone else please ask the next question!
