What Am I? (Diesels & Electrics)
Posted by METRO on Sunday, April 4, 2004 1:08 PM

For all of those out there who don't know our steam (like me,) I've got a good diesel to start a diesels & electrics what am I.

Ok here goes, whoever gets it gets to post the next one, or if no one gets it within 48 hours the questioner rolls again.

"I am the one and only on my line.
I am fought the EMD E-series.
I pulled in the midwest.
I had a face change, to look more like the competition.
Who am I?"

Is it that one snub-nosed AT&SF Chief? (sorry, don't know its exact name.)

I assume you meant "from" instead of "fought".

Are you referring to those B units that CNW grafted cabs onto? What did they call 'em... Crandal Cabs?

Nope, I ment "I fought the E-series". This unit was made to in direct competiton to the E-Series.

and here's one more clue:
"My series was one of the few passenger locomotive series produced durring WW2"

Hey Alco DL-109! woo! Winner CP5415! The exact unit I was thinking of was the Milwaukee Road's single DL-109 that eventually had an EMD-style cab put on it.

That is the B&O's first diesel and is in the museum in Baltimore. Didn't it have a grade crossing accident resulting in a new nose? For a minute I thought it might be the Ingalls GM&O engine but I don't think that was saved.

wasn't the M640 built for the CN and then went to the CP? Or could it be the one M630W? I could only find one reference for each though, and it's fairly old.

Well I'm not up on modern diesels so if you don't mind, I'll also do a "who am I" for the older diesel crowd. Folks can munch on both.

Who am I?

I was born around 1946
I had 1500 big ones
My name was "Gerdie" on one North Eastern Road
I had very big feet, with six toes on each foot
EMD rebuilt me from the inside out and gave me new feet.
Only two roads gave me a home, one North and one South.
Who am I???
