Gotta grab the morning cup.........

So whats up with everyone today?

I know that the last two days have been INSANE at my job.  I'm hoping that comes to an end.  I mean, I don't mind being busy, but I don't really care for being completely overwhelmed, ya know?

Hey, check out this video my Mom sent me: http://s83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/?action=view&current=200712_casa-iluminada-musica-navida.flv  Pretty amazing, huh?

Morgan, I've thought about checking out the Naptown.  Maybe I'll have to move it up the priority list, huh?

TMarsh
Would love to tell more of my layout maybe ideas will flow, BUT I have a tendancy to ramble.

Don't worry, we like rambling from time to time!

Hey Tom.........

And many more!

Good Morning All,

Just a coffee to go please. Done little but w..k and sleep this week as we are pressing a deadline to finish a car to ship with it's 3 mates to Idaho Fri. Weather has now trurned warm and rainy - yesterday it was just bitter cold. Typical New England.

Happy Birthday Tom, hope to see pics of the new brass - sounds good anyway. You have just on a decade on me so I only got the hybrid for my Birthday (the 1st of Dec). Need more seniority before the CFO will allow brass here.

Lee Happy Birthday a day early. That recurring dream is like mine where I can't find my rig in the truck stop lot - oh wait - that really happened.Confused

Ray - sadly with public ed these days all the emphasis is on wages and test scores. It would be nice if the people you worked with for so long had the decency to keep you apprised of the situation, but if they are in the same blind panic they're in here, you can see how things fall through the cracks. We seem to spend so much on tests and testing with this NCLB stuff that little seems left for sports, music, art or even the other non tested academic subjects that are critical to a complete education. SoapBoxI'll get off my podium now and get back to the shop stuff. See y'all later, J.R.

Happy B-DayTom!!!           And a Good Morning to all of you!!

Tom; Might I suggest maybe tying the tree to something like a wall or a ceiling? I'm relatively lucky that over the past 8 years we've had 'Spring' he had not knocked this tree over yet--mind though, he's only 7lbs.

It is -3C out. Dull-Dull-Dull. And nice and icy out...Grumpy

Jim, those decals I bought are from JL Inovative from the Walther's catalog.  Its cool to see some of them have prices on the decal; Johnson 10 horse outboard only $250.00.

Jeff, check your email.

Well, my birthday tomorrow, I think I'll head off to the hobby shop.  I was there about two weeks ago, and in the brass case--HOO BOY--there was an SP MT-2.  Now I don't know what everyone else knows about SP Mountains, but as far as models, the MT-2 (ex El Paso and Southwestern) is one really RARE bird.  And here was this one in the case, Elesco FWH and all, just looking to be adopted.  And a very nice price.  I think I might bite.  Hey, after all, I'm going to be 69, so I think I can treat myself, can't I?  We'll see.  After all, my Z-6 isn't going to be in for a couple of months--he, he, Whistling

I'll let you know what my (brass) birthday present is tomorrow.

 Good morning.

It's 39 and cloudy. The high is expected to be around 40 and it will be rainy with a chance of snow and sleet tonight.

Didn't do much yesterday. I converted a BB GP38-2 to DCC only to discover that it had a bum motor. It ran but very slowly. I changed the motor out and it runs OK now. The rest of the day was spent bracing for the storm and dealing with it's aftermath. I know I won't get anything done today as I have to go to Alexandria to have my eyes dilated again so the doc can look for more damaged blood vessels due to my diabetes. At least the weather is cooperating with me for once. It'll be good and cloudy on the drive back home.

Today's Weather for:
Sundown, LA  71446-6114      12/10/2008

Wind Chill:  29°F
Humidity:  87%
Dew Point:  34°F

So Far Today
High:  42°F
Low:  38°F
Rain:  0.00"
Rain Rate:  0.00"/h
Gust:  24mph NNE

Through 6 AM...scattered showers will continue to affect area along and east of a line from pecan island to Opelousas. Rainfall amounts of up to one tenth of an inch are possible as this activity moves off to the northeast at 45 mph. Elsewhere...drizzle and sprinkles will be possible over the remainder of Louisiana and southeast Texas.

Today  High: 42    Rain likely. Much colder. Highs in the lower 40s. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Tonight  Low: 32    Rain likely...a chance of snow and sleet. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation. Lows in the lower 30s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.

Evening all from STILL SunnyCal.  Yuk!  I just mailed Mother Nature, told her IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE WINTER, SEND US A #%$&^ STORM OR TWO, WILLYA?  Not a drop of rain, the Sierras have absolutely NO snow, my rebuilt leg is just aching to go skiing--GRRR! Banged Head

Okay, now that I've got THAT off my chest.

Ray--My sympathies, buddy.  Out here, the public school system is cutting music programs like crazy--I have a lot of friends who are just blinking at what they've got left to deal with.  Are there any private or Catholic schools in your area?  Offer your services to them.  One thing those schools do NOT do is cut music programs, they realize that music education is ESSENTIAL to a student's overall development.  Wish the public schools would realize that.  It isn't just standing there singing or sitting their blowing a trombone, the discipline carries over into every facet of their learning.  The Arts COUNT!

Well, nothing much else new.  I just set up the Christmas tree, with some definitely strange help from Remington and Spooky.  Haven't put the decorations on yet, I'll do that tomorrow.  Then I'll set the Bachmann On30 train around it.  THIS should be fun.  Had to pluck Remington out of the tree twice, putting it up.  He thinks he's a kitten and things like this should be climbed upon.  He doesn't realize that he's 18 pounds and the tree kept leaning.  Spooky, of course, being a Princess, just sat there and stared.  "Oh, he's so DUMB, Daddy."  I can't wait until tomorrow, LOL!

Better go.  I hear rustling in the tree again, and Spooky's right here staring at me.  I swear, Remington walks around with a slingshot in his back pocket.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.  I'll let you know what my (brass) birthday present is tomorrow.

heh heh....good suggestions guys. Wife chose HO because she couldn't see my N scale well enough. In hindsight, she would have opted for O scale, although there is that "cost factor". I could always suggest combining our layouts and use my N scale in a forced perspective way. That would sure complicate things for a pair of first time MRR'ers so perhaps that is not a good idea.

It's way to late for me to switch from N to HO, as I could never sell what I have for enough to justify it. Besides, I would miss my little trains too much. Have only been into N scale since I was perhaps 8 years old or so. Have never lost the thrill of watching all those tiny parts of a steam loco moving in harmony.

Evenin' folks!

Tall glass of iced tea zoe.  I have the wood stove fired up and it has reached 50°F outside with rain.   Since the last time I loaded it was late afternoon when it was around 40°, the house is now up to 80° here.  I don't usually light the stove unless it is below 40° outside.  Time to get out the shorts I guess............

I have been waiting for an e-mail from the Middle School Music Dept. letting me know if and what they need for sound for Thursday's concert.  They should have been back in touch yesterday to let me know what the set up is and what they need.  Tonights paper had a report on the School Board meeting Monday Night.  Looking at cuts in State aid for all the schools up here, they are axing everything that hasn't already been spent for this year (no details however) that isn't absolutely needed to operate the school.  Thermostats will be turned down to 68° or less.  Lights shut off, field trips are gone, etc.  So I think they are waiting on official word that they can't pay me to do the sound.......  I really don't mind for me as this is the last year I planned to do it anyway.  I just wish they would let me know.........

Melted down a bunch of old candles from my Sister today and using old paper egg cartons that I save made a lot of fire starters for the wood stove (and any camping trips next summer).

Sawyer for years every time I was under stress during my 32 year career as a teacher I would have this nightmare where I had a paper due the next morning and I hadn't started it yet....  Not only that, I wasn't sure what it was about and nobody would tell what class it was for!!!!!!   Now I have nightmares where I am supposed to be teaching a music class but I can't find the room and I don't know who's class it is!  I think it is the same dream just updated.   Good luck getting the paper retyped!

Evening, Chloe - I'll have a cup of decaf in a Rio Grande mug, please, and one of those cookies please. Ray did WHAT? Oh, you made some more; okay, I forgive him. Wink Oooh... these taste even better than the morning ones did - Thanks!

If I have caffiene after about 3pm, I'm up till midnight, at least.

Careful, Sawyer - you're almost beginning to sound like you're turning into an ORF there! ShockSmile,Wink, & Grin Ah, midterms... Oops My condolences about losing track of your RR's history. I'll have to see about writing my RR's history down sometime, real soon now... Whistling

Jeff, looks like your local Mounties are ready for Ezra. Wink

Todd - our LHS owner (also a member of our MRR club) would be proud of you. He's big on the SP, Cotton Belt, and such others as are now within the UP fold. My CAW (Colorado Arizona and Western) is a fictional bridge line between the D&RGW - around Farmington, NM - and the ATSF in Holbrook, AZ, kinda through the Four Corners area of the Southwest (in the transition years, 1950's). Hey, it's my layout and I'll do as I please  - don't be giving me those squinty looks there...Evil Laugh Todd, stick around and we'll teach you all the Diner lingo!

Morgan (Flashwave), love your pics of the Polar Express (especially the 'Deer Dorm').Smile,Wink, & Grin Bummer about your battery - hope they can find out what caused that (and not at too much cost to you, either).

B-C, good to hear the wye's holding up fine so far (crossing my fingers...). Yeah!! Is it with regular switches, or with an actual wye switch (or 2 or 3 of them)?

Luke, that's kind of close for that fire. Three miles doesn't seem like quite enough distance for me. Shock Was that a very big fire?

Saw that about Illinois' governor on the news today, and was wondering when they'll get a fairly decent (honest) one in office. You all deserve better than that. [rant over]

Rob, maybe you should have the wife draw a 'rough design' for her layout, with all the stuff she wants in it. Might begin to give her an idea of the problem with fitting everything into that space, before she commandeers the whole house...Wink

Lee, whose ads did you get? I've got some of the AIM ones ("Faded Glory" series), which look really nice (haven't put them on buildings just yet, though), and have some of the Woodland Scenics dry transfer ads/signs, too.

Everybody stay dry and warm tonight, as this front creeps eastward (and mostly up the Ohio River valley, from the looks of the radar this morning). Prayers for those ailing, needing sleep, and in need of comfort tonight.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Rob,

Is there anyway to convert her to N-Scale or you to HO-Scale?  Things might go better for you guys and you would have an excusse to spend more on trains.

I've seen the Walther's lumbermill completly assembleded. It's a big kit.  You may need an extension on the house, or add a basement.

My railroad is a fallen flag as well: LS&MS, Lake Shore and Michigan Southern were bought out by NYC in 1914.  I changed the name to the LS&W (Lake Shore and Western).  The initials also match me and my kids: Lee, Samantha, and William.

It’s 50F outside right now and raining, just enough good weather to make everything snow free and extra muddy.  Things will get better by lunchtime tomorrow; the high will be 36F with rain changing to snow; once I get to work I might as well lock in the 4-wheel drive since everything will be a skating rink on the drive home.

Stopped at LHS last night and picked up 2 more brick street systems, 2 packs of 1950’s advertisements (marine and Feed store adds).  The decals look nice, 54 advertisements for $3.54.

Decafin a SOUTHERN mug, please & thanks.

***Luke, hope that fire is heading away from you.

Contractor & crew never showed today. Said they will be here first thing tomorrow morning.

Put hay out for all (most under sheds) so I won't have to do much tomorrow. Expecting a LOT of rain beginning sometime tonight through tomorrow night. Probably same storm as Jeffrey. Conditions here favor just rain, no severe stuff. Wind has picked up.

Wife wants a complete town with large lumber mill on her layout...and don't forget her big circus/carnival & mountain scenes.. I see her layout taking over the entire room with every new "I want this on my layout" from her.

All for now. Cowboy Rob ps: the rain has begun

Yeah I know the friends thing. Friends and a warm puppy.  But shall we say, there are sme seniors I cant wait to see graduate. It's inteesting how similiar you and I, and Mark, and the other Diner teens are in our ways. People think I'm weird cause I haven't been on a date, or want to.

OH yeah, Christmas Concert is Sunday too.  may see if we can video it for yas guys.

Hey, I didn't say that I didn't WANT to lol, but it just ain't worth it, for the most part. I'm guessing those seniors are on the swim team and are complete jerks, right? I'm guessing it'll be like that next year in football, but they'll be guys who are the step above freshman (whatever that is), cause it'll be JV. I know guys about two years ahead of me though, so it kinda balances out, lol.

I'm looking forward to Winter Jam this year, apparently Toby Mac is going to be in it (last time I went to Winter Jam when he was in it, they rocked the roof off). Hoping Pillar might be coming too, that'd be AWESOME, lol.

EDIT: Oh, and guess which idiot re-wrote his RR's history for the 4th or 5th time, but forgot where he put the dern paper, so now he has to re-type it again from memory *ugh*. Starting to get a bit annoying, lol.
