JimRCGMOAhem!... Uh, Ray, PC - did I mention that I was an elementary art teacher for several years? I think it's more likely a female thing about the vaccuuming and all. I never have taken that long to put up my tree (not even when I was married and we got the live trees). Now, I have a 4' apartment-sized one (green plastic), and when I put it up on my printer stand (box with the red and green throw) I used last year)\, I noticed some plastic needles on the throw...(No offense intended, Sue)

Jim, you are right! Actually it is just my sister......... Maybe a combination of art teacher and female.... More likely the fact that she takes after my mother. The woman who always cooked with a dishrag in one hand (her cooking tasted like that too....). So you taught art huh? What did you teach him?
(No offense meant to anyone .... just my sarcastic sense of humor.... which appears to have something to do with being a music teacher.....)
just got off the phone with my dentist. I no sooner got home from lunch with my son when the temporary crown fell out. So he is coming in later this afternoon (his day off) to reinstall the darned thing. Hopefully it will last until the permanent one is put in in a couple weeks.

Hi, Zoe - since it's lunchtime (and PC's buying), I'll have some beef stew, glass of milk and a root beer float, please. Thanks!

Dick, besides Ryan's suggestion on knocking down the walls, you could also put some tunnels in the walls where your tracks connect the two parts of the layout.
Jeff, I'd bet that Barney had that biplane upside down for his picture-taking of your RR. Good thing he didn't drop the camera...
Jerry, you'd better hide those sweet rolls before the Dr's. nurse gets there. Of course, the damage may already have been done, eh? Is she supposed to do some tests, or draw some blood, or what? Good to hear you're continuing to make progress on your layout.
Todd, I'm soooo sure that none of us have ever eaten too much at a church dinner, right folks? Hey, 'tis the season, huh (and January we all go back on the wagon or head for the gym)? On your Wally-World experience, I guess they are just not accustomed to customers who are honest anymore. And that's all I'm gonna say about that one (as he moves away from the )
Vic, thanks for the heads-up! I'll have to go check if we have a KB's in town... Oh, shoot - my closest KB store is in St. Louis (couple of hours drive away up the interstate).
I'll be settling down in the window booth with my beef stew now, and see who else comes in.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Vic, I heard about KB Toys announcement on the radio into work this morning, thanks for the link too!
TMarsh, they need to add your name to the list of prospective sainthood, and glad that I inspired you to make some black bean soup too!
Hello everybody!
Lee .. that was really interesting about the backgorund of your fallen flag Lake Shore line. Here is the LS&MS 4-6-0 I mentioned in my earlier post. I think it is one of the better looking ten wheelers ever made. As I said, I tore apart my 1900 era layout due to moving. That was before I painted this locomotive and used it on the layout.
Vic ... thanks for stopping in the diner to tell us about KB Toys. Feel free to visit more often. I like your posts in the main forum.
Todd .... I like that story.
DICK! Glad to see you again. Please visit again soon. Your train room situation reminds me of an old chewing gim commercial: "Double you pleasure, double your fun.............."

TMarsh, that was quite a story! Strange how it seems to throw folks for a loop when you make it known that you want to do the "right" thing, huh? And BTW, Ryan got me with those pics yesterday too. Had to go swing by the local cajun resterant and get me some gumbo for lunch!
Hi all
I usually dont post in this column but since I dont want to create a double post in 2 forums posting a notice here is the next best option since eventually everyone seams to check in here

Like I said in the OP, while KB wasnt a major player in model trains, they do supply alot of other stuff like die cast cars that eventually can end up on our layouts, also Thomas nuts may find items, or if you still have Xmas shopping or are into RC cars or 1/18 die cast vehicles, etc.
So I'm just given you all a head's up, article stated that the sales should take place before Xmas so if you have a KB nearby, might be worth checking out to see what may be on sale in the coming days.
Later Vic
Have fun with your trains
Good late morning folks, had quite an eventful couple of days. Guess I'll have a cheeseburger, thin, lettuce tomatoe and onion, order of sweet potatoe fries and a cup a coffe pleeeeez. and thank you.
Wed we had our annual Christmas potluck at church, and of course I ate to much. Unfortunately our toaster went down in a fizzle as I was toasting the last 2 slices of bread for the scalloped pineapple I was making (would have brought some in but they ate it all) and the wife doesn’t think a new one would count as her Christmas gift.
Yesterday, as I was walking by the diner I peeked in and saw some black bean soup that Ryan brought in and that done flung a cravin’ on me so off to the Wally-mart I go because we didn’t have enough black beans to make it. Besides we needed a new toaster. I go in and hit the toasters, prefect, then the kitchen gadgets, Aaah a silicon spatula her rubber one is not the best anymore and she likes the silicon jobs. Grab it and off to the grocery side. Shopping done, not just black beans of course, you know how that is. Kinda like going to the hobby shop for ONE thing. Ha what a joke. Anyway, through the mile long checkout and outside . Unload bags into the truck, and looky there in the cart bottom, the spatula. Checked the receipt…nope, I didn't pay for it. Thought about it, nope just couldn’t do it. So like a salmon upstream I go back inside with my “stolen” spatula in hand. Should have put it in my coat pocket. Now here’s where it gets interesting,. Stopped by the Greeters. “Sir, you’ll have to take your returns to customer service.” “No, I didn’t pay for it “ I said. “Well, you need to take it to customer service even if you don’t have a receipt.” (Another greeter walks up) “ No it’s not paid for at all. I paid for my stuff and when I was unloading my bags I found this in the bottom of my cart and I need to bring this back in and….” “Oh, you just didn’t see it in your cart” said the second greeter. “Yes” I said. “Well just take it to customer service and they will put it back. Thank You sir” “No you don’t understand” I said ”I want it, I just didn’t pay for it, so I’m bringing it back in to pay for it.” A look comes over their faces like either they realize what I mean or something is hanging out of my nose. “So you didn’t pay for this before you left the store.” the first greeter says somberly. Uh oh, off to wally-mart prison I thought . “Look I just spent among lots of other things $7.00.……..FOR A CHICKEN! Not cooked, not even cut up. I’m not going to steal a $3 spatula. Can’t I just go over to one of those ever increasing in size lines, pay for this and go home?” I say calmly (except for the chicken part). “ Well of course and thank you sir” he said all smiles. But he still watched me the whole way. What an effort that was for a spatula. At least I can use it now with a clear conscience.
BUT, the soup was good.
My condolences.........
God morning All...Its cloudy had some snow flurries just dusted ground its 26 now but posta be near 50 by sunday...I'll have coffee and a sweet roll please and put that on PC's tab Thank You...I havn't got a chance to talk to my Brother yet but they say He is doing well...My Dr. called me yesterday and He is sending visiting Nurse to see Me today I am not looking forward to that!..

You all have a good one..Jerry
JimRCGMOBy the way, Jeff - really like your 'eye in the sky' shots of your RR. Did you have to hire out the Goodyear blimp to get those done?
Mornin'...........
OK Philip I'm up............. Stop all the racket will ya..............
We got 4.2" of the white fluffy stuff here in the Finger Lakes overnight so I will fire up the gas burning snow shifter before I hit the road to have lunch with my son.
My sister called last night to con me into transporting her tree to her house and helping her get it set up straight. This is a yearly ritual where I hold the tree while she gets out the vacuum to clean up any needles that fell off it while I brought it in the house. While she is at it she rearranges most of the furniture to see how it will look once it is permanently screwed into the base. Of course I am still trying to hold the tree up. She will comment from time to time that the tree is not quite straight. This takes about 3 hours to complete. Back when I used to put up a tree, I could do the entire ritual in less than 15 minutes. I also never would vacuum at that time as I could just wait a month till the tree came down and get it all then. She was an Art teacher.... Need I say more?
Well the dark roast that Zoe brought me has started to take effect so I better get to doing something of value around here. See you all later!
Morning folks!
I see PC has the coffee all perked up and ready to go!
Thanks Jim! The backdrop has the blue sky and initial mountains painted in, the next step is to add some touch ups to the foreground mountain ranges to show trees. Then I will add the transition scenery from the benchwork to meet up with the backdrop, still plenty of gaps between the two.
And look who the cat dragged in......howdy Dick! Long time no see in the Diner! WOW!!!! You got a great deal on those two rooms, if they are adjacent can you knock out a part of the wall between them and make one big train room of the two?
Later.....
Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have the Steph's Platter off Bill T.'s menu, please, and a cup of coffee, compliments of PC. Thanks, Phillip!
Dick, sounds like your RR made a good swap of trackage rights, for sure. Now you get to start planning how to fill that extra room.
By the way, Jeff - really like your 'eye in the sky' shots of your RR. Did you have to hire out the Goodyear blimp to get those done?
Ah, it's Friday!
(Even if we don't get to have that fun white stuff that some of our more Eastern and NOTB Diners have...)
Hope everyone has a warm spot to be today (maybe even with one of those German comforters like Jeff does). May none of you get too nasty of weather out your way. It looked from this morning's weather like Tom, Sue and our other Northwestern Diners need to watch out for some winds today (80-90 mph). Take care out there!
Prayers for healing, comfort and warmth today for those in need of it.
Blessings,

Hello and Good Morning--We are expecting up to 4" of snow today with a high of -2 C and by Sunday we will be back to some more rain for our viewing pleasure....
Dick; I love that kind of deal!! That is a perfect opportunity for a good sized layout.
Good morning. It's 37 and clear. The high is expected to be in the upper 50's and it will be partly cloudy. Spent part of yesterday testing some old power packs that I'll be sending out to people who have asked for them. Out of 7 tested only 1 showed up as bad so the rest will be sent out. Three are the standard Bachmann controllers, 1 is a BAchmann Spectrum controller and 2 are Athearn Train Packs. Also spent part of the day helping clean up after the storm night before last then spent the rest of the day recovering from the cleanup work. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 12/12/2008 Wind Chill: 37°F Humidity: 63% Dew Point: 26°F So Far Today High: 38°F Low: 34°F Rain: 0.00" Rain Rate: 0.00"/h Gust: 6mph NNE Today High: 58 Mostly sunny until late afternoon then becoming partly cloudy. Not as cool. Highs in the upper 50s. North winds around 5 mph. Tonight Low: 38 Partly cloudy. Lows in the upper 30s. East winds around 5 mph.

***Dick, CONGRATS on the train room swap. Sounds like you came out ahead. Good luck during the ice storm. They are beautiful, but sure can cause a lot of trouble, too.
Have a good night all.
Rob
Good evening gents, been a while since I was in the Diner. The short story is, the wife liked my train room so well that she asked to have it for a storage room. All the seasonal stuff was spread out in 2 closets and two rooms on the lower level. So we made a swap, she got the train room, and I got two rooms adjacent to each other. Now I have windows for ventillation, two rooms, one is 19 X 12, the other is 10 X 19. I have all my tables disassembled and moved to one of the two rooms, all her stuff is now stored in the train room with spiffy new wire rack shelving, and I have one of the two new train rooms all done except for clouds, that will be tomorrow.
I have to get off the air, the power is dipping and we have one big ice storm here, 16,000 people are without power here now, I have the generator all gassed up and ready, and the APC is keeping my PC ready. I can hear tree limbs falling all over the place, front, sides, back, what a mess ( no not you Fergie ). I f we get ANY wind tonight as the LOW passes off the coastline, we are in for BIG trouble.
See you guys later with photos of new rooms.
Ray; That is like being told one day it is going to be mainly sunny the next day only to find 33" of the white stuff on your front lawn!! Isn't life in the snowbelt invigorating ???
Evenin' folks!
Got home from the Holiday Concert at School. They all did a great job! I had a real work out as I had to push the on-off (mute) switch on the announcement mic 6 times tonight..... My finger will be sore for weeks..... I gave the music dept. notice that this is my last year of doing live sound for the concerts. I thought the Band teacher was going to cry....... I have worked with him ever since he came to the school close to 20 years ago. I also told them I would be around to advise and help with problems after this year. I want them to have time to decide how they will handle the situation. I have also talked to an English Teacher who is a brilliant musician and would like to take over as sound man. He currently works the lighting for Middle School Shows (and is a former student of mine).
Man Jeffrey, you folks are getting a taste of Northern Weather I see. It is 28°F right now here in Geneva. Hope your heater keeps you toasty.
JimRCGMORay, do you mean that the snowblower is under there somewhere? I can't quite make out its shape...
Oh that is the white lump in the bottom Left side of the photo. I had already run it. We had about 20" of "partly cloudy" over night and had just finished playing with the snowblower.
Good evening, Chloe - I'll have a hot fudge sundae (with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on it), and a cup of decaf please. Thanks!
Ray, do you mean that the snowblower is under there somewhere? I can't quite make out its shape...
Jerry, good great to hear the news on your brother (and will continue).
Garry, about those fruit cakes at TruValue Hardware - I have tasted a slice of one or two that might've been placed a bit too close on that shelf... with about all the nutritional value of cardboard? And I've never seen 'snake poison' - is that like a solid metal egg that's painted to look like the real thing (to fool the snake into swallowing it?
PC - Thanks...
Sawyer, I hope the MRR'ing mini-course surprises you with how it turns out (and that you convert a few students to MRR'ing, too!). Just give it your best shot and share what you know, and your enthusiasm might just be catching.
Rob, good to hear you have some new sales. Best wishes on making sure the contractor keeps it honest (particularly on the final bill!).
Ryan, I LIKE that backdrop - and that's just so far, huh?
Robby, that sounds like a great price on your Railbox! Keep that up!
I hope Jeff and Terry - and all our other Southerners - have enough heat and blankets to stay warm tonight. Up further north, we have a better stock of blankets, heaters, sweaters and snow shovels, since we are more likely to get some of that *delightful* white stuff on the ground.
Everybody stay warm tonight! Chloe, can I have a hot cocoa to go, please? Thanks.
Blessings and a warm night for all you Diners and your families,
Well I haven't been in here in awhile. Time to catch up.
I see a few people say they got snow in Tx. I know when I lived in NC, and when it flurried............Man was everybody worried, and everything shut down. I hate to see what TX was like.
Right now its just a cold rain here. Calling for 1-3 inches.
My railbox went for $52. More would have been nice, but I am glad its going to a good home. I think I am giving the eBay thing a good break. It's finally starting to slow down at work, and maybe I can catch up on my cars.
Jeffery I know what you mean with the heater. We decided not to get heat up stairs, and we have a space heater. I do get alittle worried at night thou with it going.
Well everybody stay warm. I'm off tomorrow, and I can spend most of the day on the layout.
