Evening Chloe - I'll have the veggie beef soup and a ham and cheese sandwich, please, and could you toast the sandwich, too? Thanks!

Jeff, I wish I had your skill with cars (or with weathering, or with...). Toughest thing I ever did on a car was to change out (I think it was) a taillight assembly on my 1980 Caprice Classic a number of years ago with a used one from a local junk yard. And I had a manual for that to help me out... Great to hear about your good checkup with the eye doctor, and even better for your glasses at that price! Thumbs Up

PC, has your day been like that guy in the photo? Sounds like you're about ready for some vacation time, fella. Yeah!!

Monday evening at MRR club, we sanded some of the joints where the masonite backdrop connects up, and then we cut some of the 130 pairs of 18" feeder wires (about 50 pairs or so - it got better once we got a routine going on that).

Aw, Terry, I bet you don't even have a foot of snow yet. Lee, you want to tell Terry how it is with snow? I think you need to explain the term 'lake effect snow' to him...Whistling

Rob, so long as you get a delivery receipt to show that you sent the engine back to the seller (just in case it doesn't return as promised from Atlas), that sounds okay. Most likely he's on the up and up, if his feedback is 100 percent. If he does that for you, I'd even try to upgrade the feedback you were gonna give him. Or have you already left your feedback?

It's kinda cold tonight (33 F/1C and supposed to drop to 28 F (-2 C) tonight. Bit of a humid wind (80 percent) out of the NNE at 11 mph), so it has a little edge to it. Of course, I'm sure that's nothing compared to what our more Northern friends have sometimes. Shock Soup and a

Long day today - no lunch, but the worst part was, I had someone to get a direct admission for, and the doctor hadn't called me by 10 minutes before our usual quitting time (I'd called about 2:40 p.m.). I was sure the doctor would call at 5 minutes till closing and deny the admission (and then it's a whole 'nuther matter to reach a judge around suppertime, since some of them go out for dinner, so that's another hour before you can reach them...).Banged Head  Luckily for us all, the doctor called in about 5 minutes, and okayed the admission, so I went out to tell the client and family and they were on their way. (And I could head for home, Yeah!!)

Oh, our LHS owner/club member got a good deal on 22 gauge wire (solid), in a few colors, for $1.50 a roll (25' roll). I figure I can use some of that for feeders and for accessory wiring, as well as for control panel wiring. Since my entire layout is only about 2-1/2' by 8 feet, there isn't any long stretch for the wiring. I ordered four colors for now. I may ask him what other colors he can get for the next order...

Sawyer - nice model railroad video - that must be pretty old, from the style of layout and equipment in it!

Chloe, could I have a hot fudge sundae and a cup of coffee, please? Thanks, I'll be in the corner booth, telling Terry about snow-shovelling techniques. Whistling

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Terry in Texas; how often does it snow in Houston? That is weird...Whistling

Jim; As to the purina mill--when I finish uploading the pix onto photobucket you'll see I will be using not just a hill but a cut/fill/bridge/filled trestle type of thingumahoover. I have a mill that straddles a double track mainline with a covered walkway/conveyor belt system crossing over and having two spurs-- one 12" over height of mainline, other is about 16" below mainline. This also plays havoc with the loading bay just off Main st as all 7 of the bays in that area end up with the trailors kind of going down to the dock > to coming up to the dock. And having odd set ups on the other side of the plantSighWhistlingSmile,Wink, & Grin

As for the punning going on --Who has been indulging in the silly pickle sauce, hhhmmmmmnn??WhistlingLaugh

Happy birthday Tom!

LSWrr
Jeff, check your email.

Already did. Saw your message this morning. Thanks. And I'll see if I have any of the requested subjects.

Took off to Alexandria this morning for my eye appointment. Good news. The swelling in my eyes is gone and the bleeding has subsided by a good bit. The doc is quite happy and so am I. Had a breakdown on the way there though. I was about 10 miles up hwy 28 when the fuel pump suddenly quit. I pulled off onto the shoulder with a pretty good idea what was wrong.  Y'all really missed quite a sight. You would'a had a good laugh  watching my 260 pound body going under the back of the car. It was a tight squeeze but before I got the jack and all out I wanted to confirm my suspicion. I was right! So I got the mini floor jack out and raised the back of the car 6 inches so I could be more comfortable under there and not feel like a ham sandwich squashed  between two high school history books. Here's what the problem was. About June of 2000 one of the wires going from the fuel pump to the quick connect plug behind the gas tank had broken loose from the plug. I had fixed it by splicing a wire in ahaed of the plug and joined it to the other wire with a suitcase connector. The connector has been replaced with a new one on two occasions when I had to drop the tank to install a new pump, the last being 5 years ago.(Used a cheap pump before). Well guess what! That connector had worked loose over the years and this morning the wire arced and melted the connector! I didn't have another one to put on and didn't have the time anyway so I stripped the ends of both wires and just twisted them together. The sound of the fuel pump starting up was music to my ears (it's connected through a toggle switch to the battery). I tossed the tools in the trunk and hit 70 in six and a half seconds. Not bad for a car that's running rough. The next stop was Alexandria.

Sawyer; I did that twice in university--both times major term papers and both due the same week.SighBanged Head

Nothing can be more frustrating...

Yeah man. I think i know where to find it though, lol. Spent last night thinking of how I can expand my 4x8 once it's basically done, and came up with my EOL yard/industrial complex (End Of Line). I still will need to plan it out goodand proper, but for now I just have the idea, and that's all I need, because my 4x8 is a LONG way from being done.

Check this video out, it's a REAL old one. Got it from the TAMR yahoo group. It's public domain, apparently:

All I saw was more mouths to feed, except Tom who can feed himself. Laugh

The guy from the-bay I bought the defective diesel from said to send it back to him and he would send it to Atlas for repairs, then send it back. Does this sound reasonable? He does have lots of sales and 100% positive feedback. If I were to send it to Atlas, I imagine I would be charged for the repair, which. Thoughts?

Good Morning, Zoe, I'll have a cinnamon roll and a cup of coffee, please 'n' thank you, Ma'am.

B-C, do you have a sloping hill for that Purina mill to be on? If not, might need some really strong bracing or screw-downs for that board. Y'know about Murphy and all, right? Whistling

Tom (the Happy B-Day boy), maybe you should've named Remington "Dennis" (as in, "the Menace")? It may be an... interesting Christmas season at your house with those two. On that brass SP Mountain, I bet your 'little' furry ones are drooling already and clapping their little paws together, at the mention of 'brass loco'.. And as Terry said - where are the new loco photos? We want pictures, Tom! Smile,Wink, & Grin

I've never had those kind of dreams about the papers or getting ready for something and not having the stuff (so far). Most of the time, I don't even recall my dreams, just sleep..Zzz

JR - they're gonna race in Idaho in December? Do those cars you work on have snow tires on them? I would expect that surely Idaho has a few inches (or more) of the fluffy white stuff by now. And no need to apologize for a short rant, JR - I can relate to what others mentioned about the arts in school, as a former elementary art teacher (among other things).

Lee, any birthday plans for yours? LHS trip, etc.? Or are your LHSes snowed/iced in there?

We had a little mix last night in our weather, but it was above freezing by the time I got up, so nothing on the windshield of my car that the wipers couldn't take care of. Roads to w**k were okay. Most of the moisture has moved out of our area now. Still a bit cool, but manageable weather.Nothing like CN Charlie or B-C or Johnboy get up NOTB from us...

Todd, as PC said, we have no problem with rambling in the Diner (and do it ourselves on many occasions). Ramble away!

Garry, I hope your cat hasn't found some holly berries or poinsettia leaves to chew on. Those are a definite no-no for cats - or humans! Shock

I'll sit back here in the booth a while and wait for Tom to bring in the new loco to show off.Wink

Mornin' everyone!

GMTRacing
Ray - sadly with public ed these days all the emphasis is on wages and test scores. It would be nice if the people you worked with for so long had the decency to keep you apprised of the situation, but if they are in the same blind panic they're in here, you can see how things fall through the cracks. We seem to spend so much on tests and testing with this NCLB stuff that little seems left for sports, music, art or even the other non tested academic subjects that are critical to a complete education.

No, no! Tom and J. R. they are not cutting the music program!  Music and Art are mandated credit bearing classes in NYS.  What will very likely happen is that the moneys set aside for buying new music, hiring me to come in and run the sound board and set up microphones, buses for transporting kids to All-Counties, contests, and the like will disappear.  Just like it will for all other classes.  It is time to tighten the belt unless the taxpayers want to pay double digit increases in the property tax.  I did get an e-mail first thing this morning from the lady who is the Vocal Teacher.  They are going to go acoustic with the choruses which will sing in the pit.  They won't need sound reinforcement from there (on stage the auditorium is such that you "disappear" without reinforcement).  They will need an announcement mic on stage and one in the pit. The lady also apologized for being late getting back to me.  Every time she sat down to send me the e-mail something needed immediate attention and she forgot about it at the end of the day.  At this point they are not having to cut anything, but I won't turn in an invoice for what little this amounts to.  That money should be used for other things.  Besides all that, I am getting out of the business of sound reinforcement anyway so this may be an easy way for me to "bow out".....

Flo, just a large FGLK mug with dark roast this morning.  Temps back down to 33°F this morning and the rain just switched over to snow as I was typing.  Not going to amount to much (tail end of the major system from yesterday) but will mke roads a mess for part of the day.

Have a great day!

Morgan.... That Polar Train was really impressive! Feel free to tell more about it.

Jeff ... your layout is looking great these days!

Todd .... I'm happy to see you stopped in the diner again. Please continue.

Lee ... Is your Lake Shore railroad "fallen flag", the same road that went through Ashtabula.  In the 1870's it was the scene of one of the most deadly railroad disasters in history for those not familiar. Railroads avoided building new truss bridges out of wood afer that accident.

Paul ..... I'm very concerned about Mary Ann.

Chuck .... thinking of you too.

Ryan .... I hope Monique is better now.

Any word from Inch?

Our cat has been getting sick lately. She has been eating some needles off of the Christmas tree.

I am continuing to make progress on the layout.
