OK, so something happened today that still has me reeling.
I had lunch with my friend Chris, who just happens to be the pastor of our church. It was lunch at my usual place, nothing special. Thing is, by the end of the lunch, I had become the new associate pastor of our church!
There has been a little talk back and forth about stuff, and I've been praying for God to open a door for my ministry training that I've been doing, so in that sense it's not a huge surprise. I just was waiting on God to open the door, and then today the door is not only open, but the red carpet is rolled out.
It's quite humbling, and it comes with a huge sense of awe and responsability. In a sense, there's almost some relief too, since now I can move forward in ministry with God's blessing.
Dinner is on me!
Come and get it!!!
Hi P.C
CONGRATULATIONS mate

Are you ready for more bike travel?
Are you sure you didn't want to say,Hey everyone take a look at what I have.
PC Congrats!!!!
Jeff Got the PM and I guess there isn't an easy answer but maybe someday things will turn around.
That's about it
Best to all on sick call and those recovering

Good evening Diners! Just about time for dessert, but I'd better be extra vigilant as I've got a diabetes clinic tomorrow morning! Maybe some nsa ice-cream with that Mango/Passion fruit yogurt, and a medium JR Regular please Zoe; thanks Pastor Phil!
Thanks for the kind words about the water. I've four or five different bodies of water, but they are all done the same way, basically. I'm waiting for some touch up paint to dry on the sea-at-the container dock before seeing if it needs some whitecaps. It would be minimal, if I go for it. Then it's another coat of Mod Podge, and it should be camera ready. It's probably past time for me to dust and clean the rivers and the other ocean scenes!
PC: Congratulations, I think some of us were wondering for a while now if this was in the works for you.
Garry: Nice Car! What a performance to get a car registered though! That's quite the thing with the alarm. He could have said!
On the drug bust, there was a biggie down the shore from here a couple of days ago. I'd been wondering about the (usually used for anti-sub) aircraft over the days prior. Turns out that the Navy, the Coast Guard, the RCMP (our local detachment here in Sheet Harbour, I don't doubt) were keeping their collective eyes and electronic ears on a bunch of vehicles and water craft about 15 miles down the coast from here for 5 days. The bust netted over 700 Kg (1540+ lbs) of Hash oil. Organized crime members nabbed, about 15; 12 vehicles, one sizable sailboat, and a fast looking "cigar boat".
With our low population, long indented coast with many islands, we are a favourite area for this kind of thing. What the master minds fail to realize is that all this activity, the "different" vehicles, that sort of thing, stick out like sore thumbs in a place where everyone knows everyone else, and what they drive.
Your avatar looks like a distinguished English Gentleman. (beats being an extinguished English Gentleman.)
Jeff: I like what you've done with the Rio Grande and the overlettering, very cool!
Duke: Safe trip; are you taking a camera? (Hint, Hint) See you when you get back, say Hi to Ryan and Monique for all of us, and enjoy the great food you're sure to have there!
Is anyone familiar with FreeCycle? It's an email give away to a good home for free system. I saw a post on one of the local ones today by a chap "Looking for model or toy trains to add to my collection"...Well of course I had to enquire further. Turns out he's in Horribly Oversized, and has a 4x8 unsceniced as yet layout. School work keeps him busy, so he has little time for mrr . I told him that since you guys are often sending each other cars, etc. I would let you know about his request. Here's what he wrote.
I have a 4x8 layout, yes. It doesn't have any scenery at the moment, I'm still in school so that eats up most of my time. I try to run ATSF equipment, but any roadnames are just fine with me. Glad to hear from someone. Thanks,
Time to look at that paint. Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.

Evening, Chloe. I'll have the beef tips and some brocolli and a salad, please, with a glass of wine, since 'Pastor PC' is treating.
And
on your new position (but same vocation, I'd guess), Phillip! My take would be, that you've just been getting ready all along for this one.
Dick, that was an interesting email you sent on the Bloomberg's article. Sent it along to others as well.
Garry, nice looking car there - and I'm sure that after your little deal at the police office, you know exactly how to shut off the alarm, huh? Actually, the car photo looks like it's in better shape than I thought in reading your description. Maybe up close it doesn't look that way, I suppose.
Gav, how are your lads doing now that the (semester?/course?) has started? Do they start buckling down once the papers start coming due (the ones who care about not flunking out)?
Well, I'll be getting back to my dinner for now. Yum!

Evening Gang:
Congratulations PC. Now I guess I'll have to really watch my language in here.
I don't know what happened above but the font size suddenly went to larger.
Jeff that looks good on the GP 40. The patch just fits in on the Rio Grand.
Der I think that you explained how you did the white caps, but would mind repeating for us ORFs?
Well I guess I'll head for bed.
Good Night All
Evening all. Was supposed to be about 82 out here in SunnyCal today, got up to 96. Who says that if we get bored with the weather, just wait five minutes, LOL? KCRA weatherperson was grinning on and on about our 'mild' weather and the fact that we might not see rain for another month, so "Enjoy our perfect California climate". I think I'll go down and duct-tape that blonde for a while so I don't have to listen to her. Sheesh!
Got THE TUBE taken out today, I'm no longer on those AWFUL IV's. I've graduated to pills, and I'm hardly limping at all (though you would not want to see my knee on a full stomach!). Lowell has had a couple of fairly rough days, for those of you who are keeping track of my #2 Train-cat, but today he rallied and is again eating me out of Gerber's. Good God, that stuff is EXPENSIVE! Hey, it's worth every penny. Only problem is that eventually I'm going to get the news from the Vet--but not yet. He's still comfortable and I aim to keep him that way as long as I can without making him suffer.
Philip: Congratulations on your new position--from your postings, if ANYONE deserves that position, YOU do! On a lighter note, aren't you glad you're a Protestant? At least you get to keep your wife, LOL! Seriously, I'm extremely happy for you. You strike me as a man who lives his Faith deeply and fully.
Jeff: Oboy, glad you kept the RIO GRANDE lettering on that gorgeous diesel and decided to just 'patch' it. Actually, out here in Roseville, we've still got some old Rio Grande diesels that UP has allowed to retain their colors (with patches). They make a really nice contrast to all that yucky yellow and gray.
Packers: You sound like a terror on that team. If you move out here before you graduate, make sure you come to MY high school--our football team would love you. And we KILL!!
Garry: Congratulations on the Porsche. I've got the Old Fart's version, it's called an Audi and it leaves clumps of pavement behind it just going to the supermarket. I can just imagine what the Porsche does, LOL! The Germans just build REMARKABLE cars, IMO.
Well, that's about it, got two tanks done, two more to go and the 'train' will be ready. Speaking of, just watched THE TRAIN on TV last night. No, I do NOT plan on blowing mine up, French Resistance, Allied Bombers or not, LOL!
Best to all, prayers to those in need.
Tom

Congrats Sawyer sounds like you played out of your skin
Jim yep they usually knuckle down when the papers come out but thats a long way off.
Terms just started but in all seem like a good bunch. better than last year at this time anyway
another tea please
Tall glass of cool lemon water, please.
***Garry, had the same thing happen to us with wife's parent's van....beep beep beep, plus the lights were flashing. Finally figured out the key thing. We're not into these cars with all the bells & whistles...just give us an old style lock & manual windows that are reliable every time.
***Jeffrey, that is a perfectly good road name solution. One you might expect to see out on the tracks.
***Philip, CONGRATS. I'm sure you were the right choice, too.
***Sawyer, congrats on the WIN.
We bought a Cub Cadet mower today. I had buyers remorse all the way home, until I tried it out. Now I give it an initial two thumbs up. Wife does most of the mowing and bushhogging and really wanted to replace the sickly (dangerous) push mower & long dead Snapper mower. She should enjoy the ease of use and tight turning radius.
Good Night All. Rob

Rob's Pregnant?!? Did I miss something when I was away? like a medical breakthrough.
Boy or Girl? Due date? Inquiring minds want to know!!!
Anyhow we'll here or read more on this as the story unfolds I'm sure.
Well what can I say I'm home but in a haze. Just plane exhausted and sore all over. Probably the change in beds and the fact one doesn't realizre the stresses three days of storms puts the body under.
Well I added pics of my Arctic Travels to my webshots account and these can be found on this link.

Duke: Take care as my former Commanding Officer was involved in a Pickup/Motorbike MVA 5 weeks ago in California. His bike was written off but he walked away from it with Broken Ribs, Torn ligaments, pins shattered bones, etc etc. Glad to here about the fat burner I have to dust mine off and get riding again as it's been 4 weeks.
Der John: Yes nice to know we got the Bad Guys yet again!
Phil: Good on you. I suspect this will be a time burner but I'm sure with your enthusiasm the time will fly by!
Garry: I'm planning on it as I have a formidable MR Ta-Do list. 1st project is to get the Curves rebuilt to handle my ever expanding 2-10-2 Fleet.
As to projects at sea... Well I started a Bars-Mills kit, which now requires painting and detailing. It is one of the Half building kits that sit along walls to save space. The Shipyard Brewery. Would have liked to have made it a working model but the amount of piping required to make it happen was prohibitive
Anyway it's sunny so I think I'll be heading to the garden and start the Ta-Do list. Rain this weekend and Rain=MR'ng

Ps I talked with Teffy's wife yesterday in Beaumont, Tx and they made it through Ike but the surrounding area took a nasty hit. Ha anyone heard from C&O Terry?

Good morning gents, fading sun this morning, copius amounts of rain headed our way for tonight and Friday as a coastal strom arrives, and maybe "Kyle, if he becomes a TS on Saturday. Up on the staging in a few minutes to finish the molding installed late yesterday then that job is DONE! Back to MRR'g hopefully in rains on Saturday.
PC: That is fantastic news!!!!! Congratulations !!! We will have to watch our language in the Diner more now Pastor Philip.
JIM: Glad you enjoyed the article, I found it very informative also.
WARNING: I know that some of us guys in the Diner split our own firewood, so here is what just happened to a poor man in Maine, 58 years old. He was using a splitting wedge and a sledge hammer to split his wood, when a piece of metal broke off the wedge and hit his leg rupturing the femeral artery, he bled to death as he headed to his truck for help. Never use a wedge that has been damaged too badly on the edges with folded over metal.
And speaking of wood, an article in the paper this morning said that Pellet stove purchases are UP 133% across the country, and wood stoves are up 50% in sales. But also the cost of Pellets have risen to $440 a ton ( 50 40lb bags ) Cord wood is over $300 a cord also.
FERGIE: Glad to see your back safe and sound. I haven't seen any of the little yellow rubber science ducks yet in the ocean this far south. Rumor has it that the HUDSON dropped all the ducks in Baffin Bay as part of a science experiment on ice flows.
Later guys,

Hello ...
I hope everyone is making plans for the big ham festival: http://www.hamfestival.com/
I'm glad PC could tell us a little about C&O Terry. I've been wooried we have not heard from him. Maybe Terry can get on a computer soon and visit the diner.
PC ...CONGATS! ..... "Pastor Philip" I like that. It has a nice sound. It sounds much better than "Dr Phil".
Jeff .... I like what you did to the GP40! You might consider weatehring it becasue many of the Rio Grande locomotives I saw were dirty.
Dick ... it's good of you to mention the log splitting risks. I recall getting a huge splinter stuck in my leg when I split logs years ago. Not good. Don't forget that ladders can be hazardous too!
Fergie .... Good! I bet you will waste no time. Big curves are coming to the MESS!
Jim CG .... you mentioned something about Dick and a Blomberg article. What was that?
Tom W... I'm glad you like your Audi. This Porsche was a really nice car in its day, but it's over the hill now. It'll be fun to mess around with it I hope. Meanwhile, I have my Chevy truck and it's great with zero mechanical problems over thesix years I've had it. Shelley's current car is a Caddy and it too is very well built. In years gone by, she had 3 Audi's, 1 BMW, and 1 Infiniti. The Infiniti was the car before the Caddy, and I did not like driving it at all because it gave me leg cramps on long trips. Audi's were comfortable to drive. My vehicles have been mostly GM products.
Actually, there was one mechanical problem with the truck. I had it parked outside one night. I started it and the surpentine belt broke. Shelley's bloody furless cat raced away. Under the hood I found tons of cat fur with the broken belt. The cat used up one of its nine lives.
Happy Model Railroading

Dick: ... Seriously now We don't need any wubber ducks to figure that one out as my pics will show a few bergs are already on their way. Actually several of us, onboard the Hudson, commented that we have never seen so many Icebergs or such large bergs in Lancaster Sound prior to this year. Not a good sign.
Good Morning All...Its sunny and 72 here...I'll have a mid morning cup of coffee and a sweet roll please...Thank You..
PC....Pastor Phil...I know that you will be a blessing to all you serve..I think we should make you Chaplin of the Dinner...
Garry...Looks like a fine set of wheels..Looks like its doing 120 just setting there...I can't make it to the Hamfest but with my love of all things Pork I'll be there in spirit...
Jeff...Nice patch job on the GP 40...Those old atlas engines will run forever and pull the paper off the wall too!!..
Probaly not much railroading for me again today as I need to set with my feet up...You all have a good one...Jerry

Hi, Zoe - I'll have a BLT, cheesey fries and a RBF, please. Thanks.
Sawyer, WAY TO GO! I'm sure your entire team is feeling pretty good today. And I'd second PC's comments - keep that attitude and playing going, and it should continue to be a great season!
Tom, you had me wondering there - I thought you meant you got rid of your TV! Good to hear a few jars of Gerbers has picked up Lowell's mood. Hey, he's worth the , right? (Even if he does eat you out of house and home...) That tank train sounds like you're moving along there.
Jeff. I'd have to agree - I like this Rio Grande paint mod better. It does look like the prototypes would do (well, if they were conserving their paint money).
Gav, hope your bunch this term and year continue to be an improvement over the previous tenants you had. Raise a cup o'tea to that (my treat for ya)!
TrainsRMe, you're remembering that you need to leave room in the suitcases for the LHS stuff, right? Sounds like an enjoyable trip so far (and you haven't even hit the LHS'es yet!).
Rob, what can I say about your new Cub Cadet, but... How are your geldings doing today?
Fergie, hope you get rain all weekend, so those 2-10-2's will have a place to roam soon enough. Oh, and I guess Rob's awaiting the ultrasound results...
PC, thanks for the update on C&O Terry - good to know he's up and kicking. Oh, I'd say you should be well-equipped to deal with this Diner bunch, having been present at a couple of our... uh, parties...!
We're having another warm/hot day here (not as bad as Tom may have), temps in the mid-to-upper 80's (F), but not much humidity (thankfully). I may not get much MRR'ing stuff done/read tonight, depending on how busy my on-call is.
Blessings and prayers for those in need or just MIA on us,
in a SOUTHERN mug, please & thanks.
***Jeffrey, there are a few of those folks (in their 90's) around here who we still see tending their gardens, working on big farm tractors, etc... That is the way to go, still doing what you enjoy right up until the end.
***Jim, just checked on the geldings this morning and all are doing well. Mini donkey is by far the most swollen, but he's a tough little guy.
Plumbers came and did their thing on the build the other day. They will need to secure the outside faucet and redo 2 bathroom pipes (to fit the sink/cabinet we picked up yesterday). Also, the roofer came by and added the rubber boot thing (for bathroom vent pipe), and added flashing where he had only put "glue". Thank goodness wife spotted daylight and told our contractor. What kind of roofer uses only glue where the roofs meet? Yikes! Other than that, all is well.
Wait on a funds transfer from bank into paypal to clear so I can pay for wife's circus haul. Except for the few train items infront of the computer screen, everything is packed away waiting for the new train room.
Hope everyone is having a great day. Rob
