Afternoon, Zoe - I'll have a root beer float and the open face roast beef lunch special, please. Late lunch for me. Thanks!
Now, PC, just because fr_st is a nasty word to some up north of us, doesn't mean it is down here in Southeast Missouri... You folks north of us get all the bonuses, don'tcha? Hard freezes, black ice on bridges, lake effect snow and the like.
Jeff, that is a shame you couldn't sell off that willow. Maybe if you had a tourist from up north come through with his truck, you could offer him the wood at a low 'truckload rate'...
Sounds like we need some healing prayers for Rob and Paul and your ailments. No fun, none at all! You guys take care of yourselves and get healed up.
Paul, good to hear they got one of those guys; now they just need to get him to rat out his partners in crime.
Rob, maybe that sling will keep your wife's co-workers/supervisors from expecting her to lift somebody twice her weight (or at least, until after the doctor sees her and gives her the okay to be off and rest up for any surgery). Hope your local store puts their construction stuff on sale this weekend.
So, Dick - how do you really feel about those fine folks in Boston? Bet the ones who voted on the laws had never seen what a beaver can do to a stream, either! Watch yourself on the ladder today, y'hear?
Terry, please check in, okay?
We're at 82 F this afternoon, with 40 percent humidity and 9 mph winds out of the ENE. Only supposed to drop into the 50's tonight, so PC, you could come camping down this way.
Robby, I think the 'Bay prices bear little relation to an item's worth sometiems, and more to do with who has too much money and little awareness of what poorly done stuff is, vs. the well-done (Real McCoy) items. I'd call some of them 'hobby speculators'. Hope you get several cars ready to go, so people can see the range of your work and get the word out on how good their quality is.
Tom, how's your ravenous li'l cat doing today (uh, Lowell, that'd be you...)? Any thought about getting a Preiser (HO scale) female lion and modifying it a little for your needs? How'd the tanks turn out, by the way?
I'll be in the corner booth if anyone is looking for me (except if it's about a bill - then I just left...).
Blessings and healing prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

We want to thank everyone for the well wishes, thoughts and prayers for Eric and his family. The viewing is tonight and funeral set for tomorrow, so we are taking off work and school to attend. I am going to print out everyone's well wishes and condolenses and pass them on to the family tonight at the viewing. Much appreciated.

Thanks Garry, and no, I did not buy any books because I have enough books for now. Wish I had a collection like that though it is a wonder he is able to make a living selling railroad books.

Morning Gang: We took the #1 granddaughter to the school buss and then went to the donut shop for a bit of breakfast. Large sausag roll for me. It's nice and quite there even with the 3yr old and I can take my time and read the paper. We came home and turned the cows into the pasture. Not the one I wanted them in but the one they wanted into. It's easyer that way. I vacummed the upstairs hall and now I'm thinking about going back to bed. This allergey thing has really got me down. It feels like I have a cold. It could be I guess.
They caught one of the persons that shot the cows and horses. I hope that they can make him do some jail time.
The weather here is really nice. Cool to cold in the mornings and in the 70s and low eightys in the afternoon.
My best wishes to all those needing them. My head is too messed up to try and mention each one.
I'll stop in later tonight.
Morning all!
Rode in to work again this morning. It's getting nippy out there in the mornings! I have class tonight, so I'll be riding home after sunset, so it's another nippy ride in my near future. Guess I'm going to have to take to 4 wheels soon. Oh well, not as good of gas milage, but it is more comfortable I guess.
Jim, you shouldn't be using that kind of foul language on this forum. Imagine, talking about fr_st and stuff on a family forum!
Later!
Prayers for all those in need!
Good Morning All...Its sunny and 63 here this morning...I'll have coffee and a sweet roll please..Thank You...I got started with a passenger car for circus train gonna use a old Con Cor smooth side...For those asking about tooth pick trees yes they are N scale..I took a tooth pick cut it to make a 30 or 40 foot tree then drag my razor saw blade over trunk to ruff it up,paint it with brown craft paint..I used WS Folige Clusters light Green tear into 3 chunks each a little smaller, then put a little white glue on and spear on to tooth pick, let dry and trim any thing off that doesn't look right.then I hit it with a good spray of cheap $ Store hair spray and the sprinkle with WS Coarse Turf...It takes longer to tell how to do it than it does to make a tree..I would say that each tree couldn't cost more than a penny or two to make..
Someone ask about Inch..I talked to Him on Phone last week He was OK but He and Mother are having troubles with their Van...
You all have a good one...Jerry

You wouldn't be able to use willow in a fireplace or wood stove right away. It's so wet it would put the fire out. It has to be split and stacked so that it can dry out. That takes about a year.

Jeff, that's a shame, up here you could have sold the wood for around $200. Everyone is in a hurry to stock up on wood for the winter.
Jeff, up North that would be OK, we always cut our wood a year ahead, let dry for a year then split and burn. You would even have people cut the tree and haul away for you, for $200 a cord. Now all you need to do is get a RR car and ship North, as it is going to be a tough cold winter. ( Sun spots have decreased to 0, that means no magnetic storms, no heating of the earth from natural causes.
As for tree years, I can't count after 10pm...2008-1941 = 67 as you said.
ROB: Man, I really feel for you, a wife that is injured, snores to keep you awake, cats that raise h** all night, inner ear issue ( that is the worse nausia there is without a doubt ), trying to rebuild a fire ravaged home before the cold sets in, contractor not sticking with the task, I wish I lived closer to help you out buddy, but we do pray for you and your wife.
LEE: Any Beaver sightings this morning?
Speaking of Beavers, we have a big problem with Beavers up here in Massachusetts. They were nearly extinct 30 years ago, then the Boston city slickers who can't tell a Beaver from a dog, changed the trapping laws, and now the Beaver population has exploded!! They dam up every stream and brook, cause roads to wash away, flood property and basements of nearby homes, and after they move away, if they ever do in some areas, invasive non native plants take over and destroy all the natural plants...all because people in the Boston area pushed through the legislation, who know absolutely NOTHING about animals nor the extreme damage they can cause if not controlled properly. Even the CSX tracks are in danger in some areas from flooding in swamp areas.
Later guys,
Good morning gents, and ladies. I see you checking up on us GUYS . Just give me a sweet tea for now. Thats one thing you can't find up here.
Well.............Another nice day in PA. Todays list: Do another train car (weathered). Clean up some, towels, and thats it. So far, I already fixed my fantasy football team this morning. I think I might take a week or two off from doing cars for eBay. I know some people know how I feel about eBay and weathered cars. AND, how some that don't look good at all go for 3 times more than mine. Which I have people telling me they look good (my cars). So my plan is to just take about 2 weeks and get about 3 or 4 cars done and put them on at once. Kinda see what happens. Hopefully they do good.
Time to hit the basement I guess.

Good Morning from Tipton IN !

Another tall glass of lemon water, please.
Woke up with that dizziness thing today. Could barely walk in a strait line and felt sick to my stomach. Most likely an inner ear problem, as blood pressure was quite alright. Going to see the Doc next week for a battery of blood tests, according to the wife. Guess I'll go this time.
Wife's shoulder is about the same. She is wearing a sling until her appointment with the surgeon.
Waiting for that well known hardware store to lower prices (5% to 50%) so we can pick up the rest of the fans, sinks, etc for the build, and save some more cash. Did get the ceiling fan boxes to put where we want them. Builder still hasn't been back yet and the wife is getting impatient.
Also got the rest of the planks for the deep end of the deck. If my dizziness is gone by morning, I'll get back to work on it tomorrow. Today it was challenging enough just to clean the barn.
Have a good night all. Rob

LEE: Now I know why I have seeing all these Canadian Geese headed South. We are due to go into the 30" here Friday night, some trees are red already here also, I guess the Farmer's Almanac was right.
GARRY: The three sons are all working all day, so is my daughter, these jobs can't wait for the weekend. As the old saying goes, you get hurt falling off the horse, you get right back up on it. It was a preventable accident as all accidents are. I should never have placed the ladder on a wood deck that had been water sealed that Fall. I figured that the rubber feet on the ladder would grip...WRONG !!
LUC: As you have already read, the Beaver/Squirrel thing is a joke. I am trying to find an HO scale beaver gnawing on a tree stump or similar. The lady tried to tell me that what she had looked like a Beaver, but it was a Squirrel. LOL
JIM: Glad to hear that your area was OK, no one needs that mess to deal with.
Later guys, more "ladder" work tomorrow.
Hello everybody. It's RBF time for me.
JR ... Best wishes at Elkhardt Lake!
Jeff.... I like the gravel road!
Dick. ... Wow, it's been 15 years since your ladder accident, and you still climb ladders. You mentioned all those young people in the family. Maybe next time one of them can handle the work.
Jerry ... thanks for showing the trees. Terrific!. have you heard from Inch lately?
Paul .... I read your account about livestock being killed by some bad guys. Hope the sheriff locates them soon.
Luc .... It's present surprise to see you posting again. I'm very sorry to learn about Gloria's knee problems. Now, what's the story with that funny looking woodchuck?
JimCG ..... You are a groan man for sure.
Lee... Thanks for the remark. I'm still fixing up the old train stuff for those boys.
Everyone: keep it quite, please. Duke's still sleeping. Rip Van Winkle will be proud of Duke!

Evening Gang: Boy , am I feeling bad. The nose is running and I'm sneezing, and my head is aching. In other words I'm feeling like poop.
I'll stop in tomorrow.
Good Night All
Luc, it's a long story.... My LHS wanted to sell Dick a squirrel, Dick wanted beavers, the LHS insisted a squirrel was a proper substitute. You should have seen the fox substitute they tried to sell me!
Evenin', Chloe - if I didn't get in tonight and get some posts read, I'd be buried by morning, I fear... Oh, I'll have a hot fudge sundae
and a cup of coffee, please. Thank you,ma'am.
Gav, first off - that building looks quite excellent. Then, I'd worry about going to a place that was named 'Vodka Revolution'... So how much damage do the li'l cherubs do when all of them are there and they head for the VR on the same night? Or do you call out a contingent of the Royal Marines for that?
Tom, good to hear of Lowell's progress (even if he is eyeing the neighbor's pet calf lately...) Hey, why worry about the state song and critters are ...unbearable...? You have the state flower to help everyone deal with all that stuff. (That is funny, though ) I thought that Preiser did used to have a mountain lion (of course, I get those confused with pumas and other such cats, so I could be wrong on that). Just looked on Walthers' and Roco's sites, and no luck there, so I guess not. Maybe you could get an African lion like one of the females in this set: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/590-20379 and modify it to look more like a 'healthy' mountain lion?
RT, how's the command control coming along? Got it all figured out by now? That does sound neat that it has all those features on them.
DerJohn, you very much lucked out on the license plate (on several counts there) - whew! On your 'apron' or dock, I just meant comparatively quick, as on our old layout, one of our members did - if I recall correctly - three different coats of (I think) mudding compound to get the transmodal area smooth enough. Myself, I'd likely go with plastic sheets for a simpler approach. Heck, in iNvisible scale, 45" would be almost enough for 10 cars and a hood unit diesel! Okay, six or eight and a steam switcher, perhaps...
TrainsRMe - that sounds like a good plan (for your layout, and for 'hooking' all the neighbors on MRR'ing with it and op sessions, too. The more MRR'ers, the merrier!
Rob, I'm hoping that mountain lion you had 'hands-on' with was tranquilized; I wouldn't want to wrastle one of them cats! How's your wife's shoulder doing? Did you get her to the Dr. (kicking and screaming or willingly)?
Dick, my building never did (that I can tell) lose power, and we're too far from the river for flooding here. Yesterday they closed the floodgates at the river wall, since the Muddy Mississippi has been rising lately due to all the St. Louis area rain that's working its way down here. Careful, you'll have the toothpicks mad at you for saying they look fat... That was something with how you hurt yourself 'Paratrooper style'.
Today at work, our superviser turned 50, and they did her up right - black balloons, hanging bat from her ceiling, and they brought up the wheelchair (manual one) from downstairs and put it in place of her desk chair. I had fun telling her she looked good sitting in that chair. I got an "I don't want you getting used to seeing me like this" from her on that one. At the end of the day, she immediately took it to the elevator to put it back downstairs...
Garry - one word: Grrrooooaaannnn!!!
Jeff, at least with all that wood from the willow tree, when you get done, both you and your folks should have plenty of wood for the winter (if you both have fireplaces or woodstoves). That hopper by the side of the tracks is a good idea - I saw a while back where someone took an old Geep shell and buried it halfway in a river bed as if it was sunk into the mud. I still want to get a shell and do that somewhere on my layout, or have some car at the bottom of a downhill curve, like one (or more) car(s) didn't make the turn. Thanks for the tip on the grade crossing and on the gravel roads.
Hey, PC and Lee, we've been having lows in the 50's and a night or two already in the 40's lately. Of course, it warms up to the mid-70's of lower 80's (F) by the afternoon, so so long as I wear a jacket in the morning it's not too bad. I just have been using an old t-shirt to wipe all the dew off the windows and windshields in the morning when I go out. Beats scraping frost in a few months...
Jerry, those trees look great - you're like the AggroJones of N scale on trees!
Robby P., to the Diner - all I can say is, the rest of your week HAS to be better, after a start like today! If you need a designated driver to get home from the Diner tonight, we'll get you one. Of course, you're on your own with the little woman when you get to your place, but...
Luc, sorry to hear about Gloria's ailments, but as for the layout table, I know mine has had various things put on it other than just MRR things, so that's not verbotten... Give Gloria a hug from us, and fill us in on whatever the doctor really starts to do to help her. And if the Dr. doesn't come up with something better for her, it might be time for a new one. Prayers **will** continue, of course.

Nah, not us, Morgan...
See, Luc can tell the difference - maybe we can get Luc a job at Preiser or WS, helping them identify animals?
My laptop's battery is about to quit, so I'm gonna get this posted fast! See you in the a.m., folks!
Blessings,
