Did you do the kitbashes? They look great. Where'd you get the decals?

Most of the week/weekend I was in the furniture building mode (dining chairs and a small stage for a local performing group). I did make substantial progress on the turntable.
Finished and installed the pit:
Installed the bridge (that's my Columbia 2-4-2 on the bridge; Linn Westcott's USRA 0-6-0 is waiting its turn - yes, it really did belong to Linn Westcott):
I installed the 100:1 gearbox to turn the bridge:
I made a crank and installed shaft and bearings:
Now I can turn the crank and take a loco for a spin. So it was a pretty productive week. I still have to get power to the bridge rails and to the radial tracks that originate from the turntable. Then there are structures, scenery, etc. etc, etc. I love the way every project that ends signals the beginning of something new.
Someday, I'll be painting those brass locos, too. Well, not Linn's.
Phil, I'm not a rocket scientist; they are my students.

This is Weekend Photo FUN. Comments are discouraged unless they contain congratulatory praise, whether warranted or not, but since YOU asked for comments.
The video is terrible. It is shakey, out of focus and moves around too much to the point of causing motion sickness. Your passenger train is all wrong. You have 2 NKP Berkshires pulling a passenger train containing ATSF heavyweights ( the ones with a red/yellow stripe along the bottom, if I can make it out through the poor focus) and a SP Daylight scheme car - all wrong for the NKP. Shooting video is much the same as taking photos - use a tripod, have good lighting, have a good subject. People on this forum have been telling you that for months now and you're still not listening to those recommendations.
You asked, you received.

Yes, I did the kitsbashes. They are Tiger Valley kits. I do my own decals

Boy! Some people's kids!
There are ways to let someone down without being unkind. Some folks either don't know how to do that or don't care to make the effort (in the case of the continually repeating offenders, I suspect the latter). There are also ways to give constructive criticism, rather than just be critical of the work of others just for the apparent fun of it.
Tact and a bit of non-judgementalism is always a good idea.

Loathar, The cars are Jonny Lightning(1/64). I use them in the front of scenes to gain some forced perspective. This area is only about 8" deep.(sorry for the cruddy pic, and I've gotta fix the bridge.)

I agree with Brunton. Yes, there were some mistakes on the FILMING. However, you can run whatever you want, jktrains. And yeah, no need to sound like it's the end of the world because he messed up the FILMING (not to sound mean, just emphasizing). BTW, I don't like rivet couynters. if you think it is terrible because isn't completly in the right spot or something is running that shouldn't, with me, go jump in a lake. If I like it, I'll run it.

Ok, lets see take 2. Use a tripod like JK said and don't move the camera. Let the train roll through the picture. I'd also like to see an overhead shot. One with the whole layout scene. It helps to see what kind of room you are working with. Your train was nice and smooth, that must be a good runner.
Obviously between the time he posted the link (12:53 pm) and the time he posted the second time asking for comments (10:01 pm) plenty of people viewed the thread and presumably watched the video. None of them found it something they cared to commment on. I-5's second post was one in which he went 'fishing' for compliments. When you go fishing you never know what you'll catch!
I-5: Post your pictures and links to videos, if people like them then they will respond accordingly. If they don't like them then what you saw happen, no comments, will happen too. But when you go asking for comments then be prepared for both the positive and the negative.
Outstanding TT work, looks like it works real smooth!!

The Berks look good. The video made me air sick. Don't move the camera around so much. Do slow, steady pans.

Boy I tell you, everything is looking great. I am getting very excited for your layout. Keep up the good work and keep posting photos as time goes on.

Both for photos and for videos, a tripod can be one of the most important investments. Good lighting is another plus.
For extra lighting in videos and photos, I take my flourescent desk lamp and mount it just out of view of the camera.

Jerry, I don't know what ever gave you the idea that you have the right to be rude to other members. Just because they ask for feedback doesn't mean you can leave your manners behind when replying.
Just say that he could obtain better video quality by using a tripod. Don't say "the video is terrible." That's rude, and I'm not going to have your rudeness towards other members drag down the spirit of why we're all here. I don't want those types of comments to keep newcomers from posting because they're afraid you're going to open up with both guns blazing just because they "asked for it."
Bottom line: be tactful
A good rule I've always used: if you wouldn't say it to the person face-to-face for fear of getting a bloody nose, don't say it via your keyboard.
And as for the "Your passenger train is all wrong" portion of your message. Try to remember that everyone has their own idea of a scale world. Your strick 1/87th scale world isn't the same as someone else's. Everyone chooses a different level of prototypical operation... don't let yours give off the idea that some who is more casual is doing something wrong.
Bergie
Well said Berg (especially for a Bears fan). I got gunned down a whole lot by jktrains, loathar, and a few others, and I'm still here. Now back on topic; I've done a little work.

Bergie, thanks for that statement. I've browsed these forums for the last year or so before getting up the courage to post. It seems like there's a certain element within model railroading where if you don't model "Conrail freight operations on July 6th, 1986 to within 1 minute accuracy", you're doing it all wrong. I'll be honest, I spent my life on trains, and now that I'm not on them every day, I like to sit back and just watch them roll by, whether in real life or on my layout.

I have a great time model railroading without nit-picking anyone. I run F40PHs alongside U34CHs which were retired in 1993. Most were since then scrapped, there might be 2 in existence no clue where. I model modern times but have no problem running these 2 locos together.

To do Conrail exactly to the minute do you have to do everything 90 minutes late?

I got a new loco at the show in Shirley, MA yesterday. Figured out how to reprogram it to the correct adress with some help by the guys over on Electronics and DCC, (got an error message, eventually fixed it with a resistor on the programming track so the Zephyr would know it was there.
