Rob ... Some of my track is next to the edge, but I always have fascia on the sides of the layout with the fasica height one inch above laout height or more.  Photo illustrates.

While I'm at it, it's time to dispatch more country ham to the diner.

I have one curve that's two inches from the edge that I'm comfortable with. A part of another curve is one inch away and that can give me some gray hairs if there's a derailment in that area.

Today I've put decoders into two locos. One (Bachmann item #44915) went into what I'm calling my ALCO RSC-3 (and yes, it is set up to run long hood forward) and the other (Lenz LE1014-JST) went into my rebuilt Proto 2000 E6.

It's time to stop now as my hands are getting a bit too shaky to be handling sharp tools.

Hello Lee ........ My friend actually uses a swing gate, but it does not change my concern. He forgot one time that he left the gate open. Next he start running a passenger train. The A units and the B unit landed on the floor. He could repair the B unit easily. He could note repair the A unit without getting new parts. He's been waiting for parts for about 4 months.

Now, he has contact switches on his gate to shut off power on tracks leading to his gate. That way, trains will lose power as they approach an open gate. I think the wiring was simple to do.

Garry: That's close, but not it. Add a battery box in front of the cab and split the intake vent. I'm thinking it's someones idea of a kitbashed RSC-3. It sure does run nice. There's no markings inside the body shell. There's too much detail for MRC/Athearn.

Garry, well I have 6 Atlas re-railers and the lead in tracks from the west are bridge track.  I hope nothing hits the floor.  Can you shoot me link to your WPF post?  Thanks.

Is there a free website that has MRR projects that an 8 year old could do off layout?

I got a Bachmann Spectrum K4 (4-6-2) in the mail yesterday. Since I have no intention of running it I decided to use it's decoder in another loco. I decided to put it into my ALCO whatever-the-heck-it-is with the Kato drive. It now runs very well on DCC. The K4 will be used for the same purpose that I had envisioned for my light pacific before I traded it off. It will be a very nice looking exhibit for the park.

Good Morning!

Some of you mentioned my post in WPF..... Thanks for the kind remarks.

Chuck .... Good luck with decoders and small shay type locos.

Lee .... Nice pictures of layout and duck under. I hope you have wiring to provent a loco from running onto an open duck under and hitting the floor.  It reminds me of my friend here who is still waiting for replacement parts for the P2K Illinois Central E9 he ran onto the floor. Now he has it wired to prevent another disaster.

Morning all!

Been having fun this weekend so far, but now I've got to hit the schoolbooks.  Yesterday the wife and I went to lunch and did some shopping.  Then we came home and took a 3 hour nap!  My kind of weekend!  We went to church last night and had a good time there, then out to dinner and home to just hang out.  This morning I have to hit the books, and then I'll probably take another nap (I love weekends!).  Grilling out and Bible study tonight and that should call it a day.

So what's up with you?

JR:the stuff dries flat. I first painted the roads to get them to look how I wanted, then used a fine tip sharpie to draw the tar/crack lines, then the center and shoulder lines.BTW,up here those are the correct colors. Might be different in your neck of the woods. The centerlines are 11/2" with a 2"skip.Works out to about a 10'stripe and a 15' or so skip. That's pretty close to the road out front of my house.

ROB: nuttin' wrong with repaints ,just wish I hadn't messed up !Wink [;)]

LEE: I've been thinking about a dead deer or two with an eagle having lunch.See that ALL the time here!Dinner [dinner]

GARRY: Nice engines and bridge!!

40f and REALLY foggy this A.M. It's supposed to warm up to 70.We'll see. The CFO really wants to hit the road today,Still working on her bike.

***Lee, nice job on the duck-under. Train room looks like an ideal size with a floor that would allow you to find dropped parts. Thumbs Up [tup]

Thought I would drop off these eggs (for breakfast) before turning in for the night. Yup, goose, turkey & chicken eggs, all laid in the corner of a horse stall. Can you imagine the confusion for one mother bird after seeing that assortment hatch out? Shock [:O]

Found a neat poster among one of my boxes of art stretchers (have been sorting/organizing art supplies). It shows all the GM E & F type Cab Units that were still in service as of Sept. 1, 1978. Something I'll definately want to frame & hang one day. I don't even remember where it came from anymore, but happy to have found it. Big Smile [:D]

Well, going to go watch TV until I fall asleep. Night All.

Terry the roads and the road lines look really good, but I can tell those are not Ohio roads; Ohio you would have a dead possum or skunk on the edge of the road with the painted lines going around it, LOL.

Was the quake the other day caused by the "new Madre fault line"?

Dick, I've found HD is convenient, but not cheap!  I went into a little hole in the wall pluming shop to buy brass connectors, HD price 35 cents each, Hole in the wall price 10 cents each.  It all adds up.

Those connectors you see in my pictures are only $4 for 50 connectors; RS wanted $3 for 4 connectors.  It pays to shop around.

Ok, time for bed.....

Good evening all,

These pictures are in order so once you look at the first picture you can just hit the "next" button.

Obviously still in the construction phase and nothing is complete yet......

Currently I have all existing track wired and I'm rolling inch by inch down the mainlines fixing minor issues.  The yard runs well, however I need to clean and seal the turnouts.

Pictures of the drop leaf duck under:

Track level looking at the west end of the yard:

Looking under the yard; the layout is made up of 3'x4' interlocking sections. 1"x4" frames, ½" sanded one side plywood with 2'x4' legs on every other section so if I move the layout can move with me.  All I need to do to pack it up is install the wood tops and off it goes.  Each section can support 220 pounds plus.

Tall cool glass of water, thanks.

***JR, nice progress!

***Terry...and what is wrong with "Country Repaint?" Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] BTW, your road looks GREAT.

***Paul, sure hope you figure out what is causing those derailments. Sounds frustrating.

I've made another decision: I'm going to sell 1, 2, or 3 more vintage locos, starting with an old, yet very smooth running Berk. I will put the proceeds towards a new Life-Like version. Just love all those applied details on the newer models.

Poison ivy is not as bad as a couple days ago (wife & I both picked it up from petting the cows recently). Will put out our last round bale tomorrow. Not much else to report on.

Healing thoughts to those in need!

Terry,

Thanks for the tip. I have a bunch of paint sticks already at the shop so I can try those tomorrow. At least two different tip widths as well. Does the paint dry pretty flat in tone or do I need to dull coat it afterwards? Whose phone booth is that in the first pic? Nice work by the way.    J.R.

JR, when you get to the road striping, I highly reccommend Elmer's paint sticks. You can get them in fine, med. and large tips and lots of colors,I got them at the (sorta) local wallys.:

They are very easy to use.You push down to start the paint flowing and I used a straight edge. Practice on something else first, or it'll look like a county re-paint:

Evening Gang:

Garry you really Quack me up. See what you started?

JR: Nice work there.

I went over to the track for a bit this morning. Then I headed for home to take Mary Ann to the Shaw-Kemp log cabin open house. She wanted to go and see the Blue Bonnets. They usually cover the ground around the site. Unfortunately a late freeze killed them. I ran into a fellow I had known several years ago. He was working part time as a deputy sherriff. He ownes a company that does signal and crossing gate work for the railroads. He is going to be coming by the meet and said that he'll let the rest of the department know so they may be showing up. We sure won't have a security problem.

The diesel made it around with 3 derailments. I couldn't see a problem with the track. Tomorrow I'll take Terry's diesel SW around and see if I have trouble with it. If I do it is the track and not my locomotive.

Jeff congrats on completeing the leader ship course. We never stop learning.

Well I'll head for bed.

Good Night All

Good evening....what a beautiful day today, temp hit 78.5F, and RH was only 30%, but working outside left me dry real fast...4 bottles of Gator-aid today before heading off the 4pm Mass and Dinner with the wife at a nice country restaurant.

RYAN: I'll post a pic here soon on how to get bio mass down fast.

JEFF: Brush fires breaking out here more every day, not enough green yet and plenty of dead grass and dead brush in the woodlands and fields. I'll bet you had a few cold ones after the morning training session !! LOL Wink [;)]

LEE: Thanks for heads up on that Adhesive, the wife is planning a Wal-Mart run tomorrow, so I'll head to the paint dept and get a can to try out. What a price difference between HD and Wal-Mart though !!!! Shock [:O]

MIKE: Those websites made for interesting reading, thank you Mike for posting for us. I'll bey many people don't know that that layer of silt was from and inland ocean millions of years ago that covered much of mid America.

Good Evening All,

A nice steak and some Cabernet would be a treat just now. Ryan may have lost a couple of pounds on his new regime, but I've found themSmile [:)]. Work until 4:30 today finishing up a couple of jobs and delivering another plus more stuff for the new trailer to put in next week and invoicing. Did get a couple more hours in on the empire bashing up a Merchant's row II to move the tower into the middle from the end where it didn't work. Chop it all up and move it around until it fits the space. Did some more washes on the streets and that's coming along to the point where I might even attempt some stripes. At any rate here's a progress shot of the area around Hudson Wire and the bashed building front wall mocked up. Still need lots of details and sidewalks even but we're getting there little by little.  J.R.

Ah, top of the page. What'll y'all have then?

Hello everybody....

It looks like this place has had very few customers this afternoon. The owners will be studying their break even point and shutting the place down if we don't stop in more often. Wink [;)]

Jeff  ... congrats on completing leadership course.

Terry ... that's a great roundhouse!

Jerry ...... Don't you just love technology? Good luck with the computer and photobucket. I'd like to see caboose photos.

Lee .... Congrats on your flawless duck under.  I'd make a joke if somebody wants a wise quack.

Everyone .... I posted pictures of my Burlington E5 set in WPF if you're interested.

Now ... What shall I order?  Hmmmm .... A chocolate milk "quake" will do fine.

Happy Model Railroading! Big Smile [:D]
