Evening folks-coffee please (of course!)

Oops-I finally got the top of the page-I'll leave my VISA at the register but take it easy on me folks! Wink [;)]

Still awaiting word on my comp & the suspense is killing me! It's in good hands though as the fellow that has it is a former comp tech where I work.

Jerry-My Coronet is a 1970-not a classic from the 50's or early 60's (as I'd prefer) but when I bought it me & my friends were in that "street rod" state of mind. Actually out of all of them, only 2 still have their cars, & both have had theirs a few years longer than mine-1 has a 70 Pontiac Lemans, & the other has a 70 Chevelle. Here's a pic I took of mine at a friend's house about 5 years ago.

Trust me, it looks better than it actually is-sitting in an old barn doesn't help matters.

Jeff-good thing my other half wasn't there when you saw that coachwhip as she would've snagged it for herself (well if she could catch it lol) She's a snake fan (I guess I am too a little) & she's had a few corn snakes as 1 burmese python (which she found too tempermental.)  Funny thing about water moccasins-I know they're native to your area, but you wouldn't believe all the stories I've heard over the years of friends telling me they once saw a "water moccasin" around here! What they saw more than likely was a water snake-big,black & tempermental like a moccasin, but non-poisonous. (I've heard they bite fierce too) One friend in high school consistently argued about this with me, until a reputable & knowledgeable science teacher there set him straight that THERE ARE NO WATER MOCCASINS IN OHIO-PERIOD!

Rob-I've had that too off & on over the years-I have no idea what causes it, maybe just a small nerve gone haywire?  Hmm-now that you mention "eye oddities", something I get on occasion is when I glance at something with 2 very bright contrasting colors (some obvious, some not so obvious) & I get a "blind spot" in my vision that last sometimes up to an hour-it wavers, & eventually moves to the corner of my vision before disappearing. The only thing I've heard of similar is when I read once of David Ogden Stiers (Col.Winchester of MASH) mentioning how the cast played a joke on him by painting his dressing room orange & purple. He said he got "retina burn" & couldn't see for an hour or so. Is what I get the same? Either way, it's a pain when you have to drive, or work on model train cars!

Well, I'd better hit it-have a good night all!

Good Evening Diners,

Well I didn't get out to work on my boat today as it rained which isn't what was forecast. Oh well, we do need the rain. The car is loaded to go tomorrow as it is supposed to be sunny. I have no idea of temperature there as it is right beside the lake so I expect it will be cool, after all the ice just went out last week. I hope it isn't too cold to put on the wax on the hull.

Rob, I sometimes get an eye twitch when I'm tired and under stress which I think might sound familiar. Hope you can get some sleep.

Well it's time for bed now as I will have a very busy day tomorrow.

Right you are. The only way a Cottonmouth could be seen loose in Ohio is if one escaped captivity. This is one of the deadliest venomous snakes in North America, so don't take any chances. Be sure of your identification. The closest they come to Ohio (naturally) is southern Illinois.

Good morning.

It's 71 here and partly cloudy. A high in the low 90's can be expected. The UV index will be 10, which is very high.

I have a doctor's appointment at eight o'clock this morning. He wants to check out my feet again. I'm just happy they're healing up. It's a long process but hopefully worth the wait.

Here's the report from the doc's office. X-rays reveal that my left foot is joining the Charcot parade. The x-ray shows that the top of the arch is beginning to sag, not a good sign, and an ulcer has opened up on the bottom of the big toe. As for the right foot, the ulcer on it is healing nicely. It's closed up ten millimeters since the last visit. It's down to 28mmx28mm. I have to go back Friday.

Got about 35-40 pairs of Accumate couplers yesterday..Most need some work but still enough to do a bunch of cars...

Mitch...You Dodge is nice...Its one of those things the longer you keep it the more its worth..

Jeff...Your 68 with 426 must been a pretty fast I'll bet you wish you had it back?

Yea Jeff how do we know this? Any tickets. court documents, news paper accounts?

I just got off the phone with Chuck. He's looking to see if he has another A unit in the same Milw Rd scheme as the one he sent me. Walthers never mentioned that they had done them in the Hiawatha scheme. Now I'll go nuts untill I get another A unit and finish out the trio. I'll probably run teh FMs with my Hi set instead of the E-7s. I just like those FMs.

The tile guys are down stairs putting down the backer board. They have done the living room and are working in the hall. Friday they are coming back to put the tile down and we'll have the den ready I hope. I'll be soooooooo happy when this is over and John can get started on the master bed room.

I'll come back in later.

Track tested with the speed checked by radar. The car was originally used as an interceptor. I simply added to what was already there.

Hello everybody....

Jeff, I'm sorry to learn about your continued foot problems. Keep the faith. Also, regarding snakes, we hsve had two of them here in recent years. They are large black snakes we named "Charles and Camilla". Gav might like those names. Regretfully, we may have lost them this year due to a house being built on the property next door. Shelley stopped one worker from killing a snake with a shovel and explained we prefer to keep them on our property to kill unwanted small critters as well as kill unwanted (poisonous) snakes. We have looked at their hole and have not seen them there for many weeks.

Hi folks, just dropping by to say that I've heard from Luc.  He phoned this evening.  He and Gloria want to say Hi! too, and thanks for your thoughts.  They continue to face medical problems; and those, together with Luc's job as a Commissionaire, have kept him from both hte diner, and his Layout.

Jeff: I hope this new foot ulcer heals as well as the first one. Angel [angel]

Glad that we don't get either large or poisonous snakes up here. You guys are welcome to them.

Goodnight all. god Bless, and prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.

Tall glass of cool water, thanks!

***Jeffrey, sorry to hear of your foot troubles. Fingers & toes crossed for you and sending healing thoughts your way.

Picked up some closset organizer units which I put together for the Inlaws. Hung lots of their family pictures and rearranged their bedroom furniture also tornado Warning was going off in a line from our farm to where the Inlaws now reside. Pretty wicked light & sound show with over a thousand trees down.

Wife's new 2-8-0 arrived and she loved it. Said I was a Good Husband. (and all this time I thought she knew me...Pirate [oX)]Laugh [(-D]) Now she wants Circus cars for it. Any ideas on who makes them and where to find them?

Very tired. Going to go watch TV awhile. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

I forgot to share the best part of the day: Wife & I went to Red Lobster & both had the Grilled Lobster tail, scallops, & shrimp dinner for .55 cents. SIL gave us two $25 gift certificates for all we've been doing for the parents. That was some good eating and believe me, "we earned it". OK, Good Night All. Rob

Walthers made some long time back. Try Train shows. IHC has some want to bes, and you might find some old AHM. Beyond that, you're painting your own. Preiser has elephants.

Evening Gang:

Jeff I'm sorry to hear about your foot problem. Take care of the new one and I pray that it will heal soon.

Rob I'm sure that I've seen circus cars advertised. I can't remember where or by who. I checked the Walthers catalogue index but there wern't any cars just figures and such.

Luc you take care of yourself and your wife. We're all thinking about you.

Time for bed.

Evening folks-Java in my Eeyore mug!

Blah-top of the page again, my timing needs work-ok here we go again-but go easy on me folks!

Still waiting on news on my comp-I've been half tempted to call the fellow, but my bud who has a auto repair shop has told me over & over how much he hates ppl to call constantly "Is my car done yet?" "Is my car done yet?" & they need to keep in mind that there were other jobs before theirs. So I try to keep -that- in mind. Luckily I have my other half's comp right here, but VERY limited on what I can do. (been doing layout research, operations, etc, on mine)

Jerry-you're exactly right on keeping an old car a long time like that-I planned on keeping mine as long as I possibly could, but with my interest in it slacking, buying a house, & storage of it, I decided that putting it up for sale would be in its (& my) best interests. We're going to tow it to my bud's garage, try to get the carb (or bad gas) issues worked out, & go from there.

Jeff-bet you wish you had that Hemi Coronet again-the values on those have skyrocketed over the past 25 years. If mine had the same, I'd be rethinking selling it (mine has the plain jane 318) I can remember in the mid 70's a fellow here in town had 2 Plymouth Superbirds for sale-1 for $5500 & 1 for $6000. (both in excellent condition) the way values go, if he sold them now, he'd be looking at well past $100-150K for both. (those are the "winged" cars) I found out a few years ago he sold one & kept one.

As for snakes, I stay away from all black water snakes anyways, as the ones here will bite the crap out of you, & are as big as a water moccasin anyways. I mentioned to Dawn your coachwhip experience, & she said they're fast (& also mean too) & said if you ever come across a corn snake, to let her know! they're very docile also.

Well, I'd better hit the sack-nite all!

You don't have to worry much about Cottonmouths in Ohio. If you see one there it's one that escaped captivity.

in a SOUTHERN mug, please & thank you!

What is the least expensive way to convert my wife's new Spectrum 2-8-0 into a Sound loco? What would be involved in doing this? Thanks for any help.

I like those Roundhouse 34' Overton coach sets. Perhaps one of those (in Southern), along with some flat cars with wagon loads would suffice for the wife's Circus Train. Could also borrow Jeffrey's approach with airmail paper prints of circus stuff to add to a few box cars!?!

Wife is sick again. Seems like a bad cold. She pushes way to hard, IMO.

(thinking well ahead) Another question: Those pre-assembled N scale Walthers turntables, will they accept any brand track or do they come with track sections? How does that all work/set up? Can I still use Kato Unitrack for the mailine(s) leaving the TT or will it require conversion track? Any info on this will be appreciated. Thanks!

Greetings from the Labrador Sea! Yes I made it back to St John's two days ago, ran into some more of Tom's "old Flames", and we're back at it it again as we head for the shores of Greenland, now two days away. Though we have to pick up some German science gear enroute.

I've been looking in the last few days but haven't posted as the internet has been unbearably slow, worse than dial up!!

It's been very busy this past few days as we finished our work in the Orphan Knoll area and had to steam in fog and bergy water to get to port. Talk about a slow boat home to China!

Welllllll...Big Smile [:D] If you take your tongue and hold it against the top of your mouth and Hiss that will work . Say All Aboard and you will probably sound better than MRC's "Fireman Fred" and it's real cheap. Saying that the Digitraxx Doodle bug or SFX series of decoders are about the cheapest you can get. However you get what you pay for! Still I have one and it's not bad, just not great.

I see it's been quiet as of late. Oh well more pie for me, especially with Dick not around!

Almost have the Jordan Steam Shovel and Crane finished, a couple of more parts to glue on and then paint.

Well time for me to go

Later All

What is the least expensive way to convert my wife's new Spectrum 2-8-0 into a Sound loco? What would be involved in doing this? Thanks for any help.

We're talking HO scale DC power here, right?

Hi Zoe - I'll have a coney dog and a root beer float, and some cheesey fries with that, please. Thanks, Mitch!

All you folks talking about your muscle cars - I never had the funds to get one of those back then. Probably most powerful engine I've had on a car is my current Taurus (and it's a six!).Blush [:I]

Speaking of the Taurus, on Monday evening I had it (as I was a block plus from home) make a 'whoompf!' sound as I'm pulling through an intersection, and then at the corner where I turned, it was sluggish. Parked it out front, 'cause it sounded like a tow sure would be needed to the dealer. So I got it to the dealer yesterday morning and when they got back to me later in the day, I learned a new automotive phrase - 'hydrolock.' Oops [oops] But I'm glad God put it in my head to get the 12 & 12 warranty when I bought the car in Jan. - that covered the replacement of the engine and a courtesy car. (Whew!) Could've been a pricey repair, I'm sure. So I'm learning where the controls for stuff are on the loaner car. The dealer said my car could be done by Tuesday or so, and then I can get back to familiar knobs, dials and levers.

PC, good to hear your family's doing well. Try not to wear yourself out keeping up with them. Wink [;)]

I'm with some of the rest of you on snakes - if they don't invade my territory, I'll avoid them as well. Wink [;)] I just make sure not to go climbing rock cliffs in the afternoon and other such foolish notions...

Jeff, better get those feet taken care of, and watch your diabetes, too. Your old muscle car sounds like a real powerhouse. Yeah!! [yeah]

Fergie, good to see you're still safe and sound (and making MRR'ing progress on the crane).

Rob, on the Walthers turntable, I'm guessing that the N scale one would be like the HO one. Our club has the 130 footer, and it comes with the track on its bridge pre-installed. You may need to adjust the area around the turntable or make a transition for the Unitrack's height difference, since the turntable's designed to be mounted almost flush with the surrounding/supporting area. I'll write you tonight on the layout ideas/questions you sent me, by the way.

Paul, sounds like you're developing (ahem...) a Milwaukee Road habit there. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Hope Chuck can get you that other A unit.

I haven't made much progress on the layout for a bit. Need to get the dining room table workbench cleared off so I can get back to things. I have the Roberts building and magnetic jig sitting on top of the layout for now. Would like to get back to getting wiring moving along, too. Maybe with our extra day this (Memorial Day) weekend I can get something going. I have been trying to work up another idea for 'phase II' of the CAW - adding a turntable and a 2 ' X 4' section on one side of my existing sections. That would give me some runaround for when I get the wiring done and want to do some switching.

Need to get to my lunch for now. I'll be in the corner booth.

Blessings and prayers for those needing healing or comfort,

Jim in Cape Girardeau
