Hello everyone:
Paul: I'm glad the eye is improving.
John P's Amish loco needs couplers evidently, but does Kadee make any that would fit?
Gav kindly asked PC how his family is doing. I'd also like to know PC. BTW, PC, I once went covered bridge touring and it's interesting. Not many out there however.
Rob is definately being the good guy taking care of his in-laws. to Rob.
The church we attend is getting a new pastor. The prospective pastor got 100% of the member votes today, was offered the job, and accepted. Meanhwhile, our sick church friend begins chemotherapy this Tuesday.
Where's Duke? Where's Ryan? Where's Ed? Where's Luc?
Dick....how was the excursion? Any strawberry rhubbarb pie available?
If you're interested, I posted pictures of CB&Q 308 in WPF today and my ATSF FM Erie Builts yesterday. I know Flashware saw the FM's and his remarks in WPF are appreciated.
Happy Model Railroading!

Evening gang!
I decided to go to MS's website and see if there were any updates that I had to do to the computer (I do so about once a month on average). Well, I was told that Service Pack 3 was available and I decided to download it and install. However, I forgot to do a backup (actually, I have never done one on this computer since I've had it) and the computer did not take to SP3, so I had to do a complete system restore (I had not done one of these save settings either) and just got done fixing most things. I lost all of my files that were on here too, including all train and MRR related items, excepot photos. Tomorrow after work, I'll have to reinstall the printer, and whatever else I find wrong, as well as doing more updates to this dang computer. I can now say "Lesson learned" and I will start using DVD+RW's to do backups.
Well all, night!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010
I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
Evening Gang: Not much since this morning. We just got the cows out of the field. The new calf was left behind by it's mother but as soon as we started to get it up and moving toward the gate it's mother showed all concerned. This is the same cow that left her calf in a field and we didn't notice it was gone. Dogs tore the calf up pretty bad but it survived.I don't want that to happen again.
I haven't heard from Ed since he E-mailed me that they couldn't come for the meet. Which remindes me. If anyone wants to see pictures of the Annetta Vally Western group go to AVW.org. I don't think that the latest meet pictures are posted yet but there are some great pictures there.
Time to change the patch and go to bed.
Good Night All
Paul
Just looked at the site awsome mate
Gav
Hey y'all! Dropping in since I have time.
I've been awarded a job on the coal trains. So I'll be making trips up the road frequently and making big money if all goes well. I'm hoping that I can continue my everyday struggle-juggle of balancing work and keeping my girlfriend. It's one heck of a challenge, but I'm not about to give up.
And here's the new car! My 2008 Chevy HHR 2LT. Black leather interior, premium sound, sunroof, and best of all, 30+ MPG on the highway!
Y'all have a good one!
Scott - Dispatcher, Norfolk Southern
Janie, another cup of coffee, please. Thanks!
Jeff, you keep eating that good, and you'll be ready for a pre-ORF nap...
Gav, hope you don't get that much paperwork very often. Not fun!
Paul, better be careful - Mary Ann might have a shopping trip of her own planned, now that she's wise to your order from Chuck's. For your sake, I hope you weren't saying what the total for the order was, when she walked in on you.
JP, nice loco you got there! Bet that one wouldn't melt in the Sand Lot! The BBQ sounds like it was a good one. Wonder what size Kadee that would take? And on that not having things backed up: Ouch! Hard way to learn the lesson.
Jeffrey, I wouldn't mind (non-poisonous) snakes around, but I think I wouldn't want them close to the house, myself.
Heartland Division CB&Q:Where's Duke? Where's Ryan? Where's Ed? Where's Luc?
Good question - where are they?
Scott, nice new wheels! But, uh,... where's your longhorn 'bumper attachment'? Congrats on the improved work (and pay)!
I've been gone this past weekend for (simplified way to call it) a men's retreat with church. Awesome, and great scenery (plus great weather). I was surprised that by the time I got home, my car was showing the mileage at almost 19 mpg (Usually in town, I get around 16 mpg or so), even on the somewhat hilly and twisty roads to/from the retreat site. Heading back, I was able to keep around 55-60 mph most of the way, so I guess that helped. Of course, tonight's news was about the gas prices going up... At least my tank is fairly full, so I should get another couple of hundred miles out of it. Maybe prices will slip by then. (Hey, a fella can hope, right?)
Time for this fella to head home for bed. See everyone tomorrow!
Blessings,Jim in Cape Girardeau
Hello Scott !!!!!!!
Good to see you! Good luck juggling things. Enjoy the coal hauling. the Chevy looks great, and I like it's color. Don't let Dave V see it becuase he may mistake it for tuscan red and try to put keystones and pinstripes on it!
Also,,,, hello JimCG........ You must have been busy lately. I fugured the food urge would bring you back, and there you are.............eating pie!
Gav .... how's everything over there?
Garry
not bad weathers been nice but back to normal now
the little cherubs have exams and its also getting near the end of year so damage is at a minimum as they suddenly realized that they will have to pay ( oh sweet revenge ) and guess who's doing the room checks

cheers
Hey folks-just a quick coffee before bed.
Typing this out on my other half's comp as mine started giving me fits Friday & finally died this morning. (it kept freezing up, reboot, go for awhile, freeze up, etc) & then the monitor wouldn't even boot up after awhile this morning. Took it over to a former co-worker who's a comp guru & does repair/diagnosis on the side. (I actually tried to "stop in" here the other nite, but just after I typed things out & went to post, the comp froze, so I got disgusted & went to bed.) I hope it's fixable, as I have a ton of train reference stuff, not to mention the majority of my music collection. (all transferred over from CD-some 12000 songs) The thought of losing all 6-7 years work, music, & reference makes me a little sick right now. So anyways, he's going to check it out,& hopefully he can take care of things. In the meantime, I can work on my "weathering" a little more, & get on here when she isn't. (sleeping right now) She has a lot of the "train" bookmarks on here as I have, but I still feel like I'm driving someone else's car)
Jerry-one of the things I wanted to say the other night before things went galley west-no problem on getting the year wrong on those-I've been wrong before myself in when stuff was introduced on different cars. For example I just found out in the past year or 2 (after seeing one) that the 55-56 Chryslers (& maybe Imperials) had the gear selector on the dashboard-looked kinda like a stick shift IMO. Something I never knew up until then. My only experience with the push-button trans was some 20 years ago when a fellow I knew acquired a '63 Chrysler that wasn't in the best of shape. I didn't drive it, but he let me start it & work the buttons, & I was curious as to the "Park" feature on them since I didn't know up till that time-turns out it was a lever below the buttons.)
On the subject, I was over at Mom & Dad's today, & played with my Dodge Coronet, trying to get it to idle without stalling. I initally got it going on fast idle (you have to pump the crap out of the pedal-something my dad was hesitant to do but I drove the car for 20 years-I guess I still have the touch) But eventually it kicked down & refused to idle again. We're thinking either bad gas (4 yrs) or the carb needs good adjusting, & those aftermarket Carter 4 bbls are tempermental.) Either way, we're going to have it towed to my bud's garage & have him tinker with it-need to get it driveable as I want to take it to our downtown weekly car shows which start next month with FOR SALE signs on it-I don't have the time, $$$, or ambition to mess with it anymore. I need the $$$, but still the day it sells, I won't be too happy as I've owned it for 22 years, & went thru a lot of good & bad in that car. But I want it to go to a good home & find someone who wants to put into it what I can't anymore.
Anyways, better hit it-hopefully all are well & good here, & I'll try to stop in when I can! Gnite all!
Well, my apologies for anyone who missed my first post tonight - I used it as a starting point for my second post, and wound up replacing the first post with it. Don't think I can remember all of that again. Too close to my bedtime - and that apple pie a la mode was good, too!

That pic I showed yesterday was actually Bridgeton, Indiana. In Parke County Indiana there are 20 covered bridges, many of them still in daily use. As a matter of fact, they say that there are more covered bridges there then in anyplace else in the world. They call it the covered bridge capitol of the world. Here's some more pics of the day out. (And remember, they built RR covered bridges much the same way as these!)

The family is doing well, thanks for asking. The wife is slowly working her way back to normal. She can't stay on her feet long enough to do dishes yet, but she does most everything else. My son thinks he's invincable, so he's all over the place, but it's good for him. He still gets worn out pretty easy, but other then that, he's off and running......literally!
Scott, nice wheels! Good to see you back in here. Stop by more often!

That was Bridgeton, Indiana. I have yet to make it over to Mansfield, Indiana. The reunion was good. It was really just my family, my mom and dad, and my brother flew in from Texas. He hasn't been home in a long time though, so it was cool.
in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks!
***Scott, fancy new car there. But better yet is you get to haul coal drags.
***Philip, enjoyed all the pics. That double bridge is pretty cool.
Sunny, beautiful day here with a high to hit 80 degrees. Going to spend part of the day sorting through the Inlaws boxes from storage. Wife left early to move some small stuff for them. What we don't keep, we'll give to Good Will.
Still find myself wanting one of those Athearn Bigboys.

Morning Gang: I saw the doctor this morning and he said that everything looked good. I still have some swelling so my vision is still fuzzy. He said that when the swelling goes down the fuzziness will go away. No more eye patches so that is something.
I cleaned off the layout a bit. Of course cleaned it off so I'd have some place to put the boxes of vhs tapes that we have to move out of the den so the floor can be tiled. Will ever be glade when the place is finished.
Gav: Revenge is sweet or so they say. When you do the inspections remember to bring your magnifying glass. Just walk in with it in your hand and watch there faces.
Scott congrats on the coal job. Could you route a car load my way for my steam locomotive? The new wheels look great but like someone said watch out for Dave V. I'll admit it would look good with pinstrips and a Keystone.
Well Im going to head out.
See you all later.
Morning all.
Well, our Pacific Coast heat-wave is supposed to break tomorrow--high 'eighties, then low eighties for the rest of the week. The Coast has gotten their fog-bank back, so no more '90's in San Francisco or Santa Cruz (whew!). The Delta breeze is supposed to start coming into the Valley by tomorrow. Yesterday was only 101 (only!), today's supposed to be about 96 or so. Been breezy and dry, had lots of grass fires around the area, and a couple of small forest fires in the foothills, but nothing major--YET! With all of these north winds, we've dried out around here WAY too early, so I think it's going to be a really MAJOR fire year. Not looking forward to that.
John--I love that Amish flower-pot. Amish are so skilled at wood-work. I've got an Amish grandfather clock built in the 1880's with the original mechanism and it's one of the most accurate clocks I own. Came all the way from Indiana, bought it for a song. Very unique styling, very plain and really handsome.
Jeff--Glad that snake wasn't poisonous, the way you desribed it moving. We don't have much in the way of snakes around here until about June or July, when the rattlers move in from the foothills. However, they give you PLENTY of warning--unfortunately, the tourists want to get a 'close-up' view of the 'interesting wildlife', and--WHAM!
Worked in the garage last evening, putting in some wooden railroad crossings, just generally puttering around. Got the steam line fixed on the Basket Case, and she is no longer a Basket Case at all. Actually, I think my other two Yellowstones are getting a little jealous, I'll have to run them out a little when the weather cools off.
Found out that Lowell, my 15-year old male Maine Coon is starting to have kidney problems, but the vet thinks it's been caught in time and he can be stablized. Hope so. Mr. Mellow has been a great companion for a long time, and Spooky the 'cabeese-thief' would be lost without him. They 'plot' together, you know.
Well, that's it for this morning. Going to head to the garage and plant some road signs. Hopefully my Cripplebush 'buttes' will be in this afternoon and I can start work on Yuba Pass.
Best to everyone.
Tom

Evening Gang: I got a suprise in the mail. The stuff from Chuck's arrived. Now that's fast service. Everything is looking great altho I haven't taken any thing out of the boxes yet. I may have to clean the track and give the new stuff a run tomorrow.
I've found out that my eye is a bit sensitive to the heat outside. I just came up to the bedroom into the AC. My eye was bothering me just a bit but now it's fine. It usually feels like there is some sand of dust in it. The eye drops take care of that but it's another couple of hours untill my next dose.
The tile guy is coming at 8am so there goes sleeping in. We still have to get the dean cleaned out. Mary Ann and I are really a couple of pack rats. I took a bunch of cardboard boxes up the the recycling bins at the county barn and came back with 8 really nice plastic buckets that someone had put in the plastic bin. Hey they are clean and square about 3 gals capcity. I couldn't turn something like that down, now could I?
Tom I'm happy to hear that the temp is going down out there. I hate to hear that the dry is coming so early. You're right it maybe a bad fire year. Lets hope not.
Jeff that's one reason I carry a side arm loaded with snake shot. Get them before they can get you. For poisonous snakes it's take no prisoners. The non-poisonous types get a pass if they are out of the way.
It's early but I need to check some things out.

One word: TELEPHOTO!
well, as you may or may not have heard, Indy is trying to get the Super Bowl. ANd have been discussing the connections between the stadium, the convention center, and hotels. You know what they forgot? you can get off the train and move only two/three blocks to the center, the stadium, etc. But no. Let's leave Amtrak out.

Spent most of the day helping wife sort through boxes of stuff. Much still to do.
What causes eye twitches? Have been having them on & off in one eye for almost a week now. No discomfort of any kind, just an interesting oddity.
Have a good night all.
