I'll have another root beer float and if there are any extras, a bubble gum cigars for the wife who is as fanatical about bubble gum as I am for coffee. mmmmm....coffeeeeeeee Tongue [:P]

Looks like I'm at 2/3rds of the way to that new Athearn BB. Was reading that thread on Challenger & BB sounds and I am wondering if I am going to be terribly dissappointed with that aspect of one, in particular for a DC only guy? Who here has the N scale version of either the Athearn Challenger or BigBoy and what do you have to say about them, in particular the SOUND? Hmmm, for the same price I could have an Atlas Shay PLUS a Proto 0-8-0.Confused [%-)]

Well, had a long day and I'm beat. Going to go veg infront of the boob tube awhile.

Evening again, Janie - just a cup of decaf for now, please. Thanks!

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] To the new little railroader.

Cape Jim, What wonderful news.  I am so glad it all went well and everyone is doing fine.  It is a great blessing when all the parts are in the right place and they are closer to full term.

By the way, I like red hair no matter what color it is.

I will sure take you up on the Root Beer Float, but I don't smoke so keep the cigars.  I also don't want to hear that you have been smoking in that new car either.

Congratulations Buddy, do enjoy your Grandson,  They are young for such a short time, so it seems.

Johnboy out....................................

Hey, Johnboy, you missed part of my post - they're bubble gum cigars (not tobacco). So if you hurry, Janie may still have one of those left for you!

Thanks, everyone, for the kind wishes and all. Smile [:)] Janie, I'm covering this page, so no charging Sue for the TOP tonight. Thanks!

For those who mentioned Thomas the Train, I think I'm going to start Drew off with one of those wooden train sets he can play with on the floor or table top. Well, he can play with it until Joey their dog (schipperke) decides it's her toy - and steals it. Whistling [:-^] BridgeTom's cats have nothing on Joey if it's at a height that Joey can reach! Oh, here's what a schipperke looks like:

Paul, with all that dirt-moving, you might be on a less strenuous track with switching your efforts to HO instead of the 7.5 scale (no offense to any 7.5 scale people here). Otherwise you'll be too pooped from farm and the 7.5 scale to do anything else! At least with HO scale the landscaping and scenery uses less energy. Get a good night's rest!

Well, I need to send some emails out to other people with pics of young Drew (and his Mom). See everyone in the morning (and I'll see about settling my bill then, too, Janie. Thanks!

Blessings on your evening and the week ahead of us,

GrandDad Jim in Cape Girardeau

Evening Gang:

Great news Jim. He looks like a real keeper.

Gerry that was alot of dirt moving allright and again today. I still have maybe another day of it before it's done.

Lee that's pretty good shooting. Was that with a 9mm? What rifle do you shoot?

I'm really bushed again. I'm going to make this real short and hit the sack.

Congratulations JIM !!  From friends who are grandparents, I hear that it is even better than being a parent. You get to spoil them rotten and have none of the consequences! Yes, it is never too early for a Thomas set or indeed Thomas video so he will think a train is second to nature.

Well the weatherman goofed again here as it didn't even break freezing this week-end but the sun is so strong that it is melting anyway. In July when it is 90 degrees and humid with the air conditioning humming, it is hard to imagine it can get so cold here. What a crazy climate! It is strange how you can get acclimatized though. A few years ago we went to Borneo and after a few weeks the heat seemed OK and it was hot! We were 60 miles from the equator in the rain forest so the humidity was over 90%. We went to an Iban village, about 2 hours by boat and part of the welcome to guests is a dance. When it is done the guests are obliged to perform and as I'm still here my performance must have been OK. They certainly were laughing a lot. Iban by the way were headhunters who gave up the practice a hundred years or so ago. At least that is what they claim. I started out this paragraph on the weather and somehow I would up in Borneo. My apologies. South African wine is really quite good.

I'm still working on the scenery and find it slow going. Perhaps I shouldn't watch TV at the same time. I don't mind doing it and actually enjoy it sometimes but I can't seem to get fired about it. I went to the LHS on Saturday to order a couple of small items and get a set of grade crossing signals. Came home with another CN boxcar kit. It's part of my new motto; buy it when you can because they won't have it when you really want it. Good motto don't you think?

Afternoon, Janie! I'll have a large root beer float, please.

and would you put these chewing gum cigars in a jar here by the counter, please? Blue ones, yep!

Ahem!...

Diners, may I present Drew William, born at 2:49 a.m., April 6th, 2008 A.D., 8 pounds 1-1/2 ounces, and 21 inches in length (and for our metric-based Diners, that's 3.67 kg., and 54.61 cm.). Long fingers and fairly long feet, too. Smile [:)]

and here's the future model railroader with his Mom (my daughter Sarah):

Bow [bow]Bow [bow]Bow [bow] Andy (Drew's Dad) will be off this week from his job (elsewhere in the hospital), and Sarah's mother will be staying to help Sarah out, too.

Oh yeah, and Drew's a redhead, too (his Mom has some red in her hair, and Drew's (late) maternal great grandfather was definitely a redhead, too). Wish the pics were better, but I'm still getting the hang of my w**k cell phone's camera. Once the hospital posts their pics of Drew, I may post a link to that. They'll also be putting a pic of young Drew on the hospital's billboard (one of those digital ones, and in full color), so if I go home after w**k on this one route, I'll get to see an even bigger pic of Drew. Yeah!! [yeah]

I found out that the contractions started off on Thursday, and Andy & Sarah made a total of three trips to the hospital, but until the last time, the contractions weren't strong enough (and Sarah wasn't dilated enough), so the hospital sent them home. Sarah and Andy were pretty insistent on the third time, and Sarah wasn't too bothered by the contractions (though they weren't fun) - until they broke her water per the Dr.'s orders (and luckily that was about when they were giving her the epidural shot. Sarah said she almost was able to go to sleep once the medication kicked in. Shock [:O] She was pretty tired from all the contractions. Glad the young'un is here. And yes, of course I got to hold Drew and rock him for a while. Big Smile [:D] Me? Proud GrandDad? Sure! Oh yeah, this was a couple of weeks early on the predicted delivery date. Sarah was a little early (less than an hour or two).

I'll be buying root beer floats for all the Diners who want one this afternoon, Janie. Set 'em up! Somebody call Sue and tell her, too!

Blessings from the new GrandDad,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Rob, only the 2 inner most rings count (the 4 & 5 point area) anything outside of that is considered a miss.  This was a praticl pistol course (PPC) it requires a bunch of position changes, re-loads and your under the clock (about 1-2 sec/round).  On the basic marksmanship courses I tend to score expert on rifle and sharp shooter on pistol.

Good morning everyone, how is your Sunday going for you? Cloudy again here today with a cold Easterly wind at 10 mph, rain due here later today. We might see the sun later tomorrow if we are lucky.

I just watched Mike's UTube video on the best Hamburgers in the world, and now I am hungry as a horse. My head cold has not dampened my appetite one bit. More paper layout work today, sometimes I feel like I'm trying to start an old engine with a hand crank ( remember those guys? )

MIKE: Now we all want to know Mike, how many burgers "you" have eaten there? Come on now, cut the crap, be honest !!!! And, where is this little town of "2" on the map in Illinois? Maybe we ought to have a Diners meeting there someday, it seems like it is centrally located for just about everyone from New England to Oregon to Mexico and Florida, as well as Ontario and Saskatchawan......Nova Scotia, a little further guys but very nice trip.

JIM: A grand dad soon  I see  Thumbs Up [tup].......better go get a Thomas the train set.

Later,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Jim CG ..... Hard to wait, right? Smile [:)]

Inch ...... Hamburgers sounded so good I went to MapQuest, but I got the following result: The city of Moon Shine was not found. This map shows all of Illinois.  Oh well. I did enjoy watching the video becasue it reminds me of the part of Illinois I like best. It's called the Prairie State for a reason. I grew up near Chicago, but it would not bother me if I never returned to Chicago the way it is now. Sigh [sigh]

Lee ... good shooting at the range. We'll have to call you "Dead Eye" .....Approve [^]

Jeff .... No, I don't have any MKT decals. My small amount of MKT stuff is from 1950's so If I had MKT decals, it would not be for the green colors. I do like your green locomotive. Thumbs Up [tup]

Mornin', Janie. I'll have a cup to go, and a glass of Ed's OJ for here. Nope, still no word on my new grandson yet. Hope it's because they all were sleeping, rather than the labor is still going (like the Eveready bunny? Shock [:O]).

Well, Diners, still haven't heard, so I'd better get going and try to call them up. Would like to know. Once I hear for sure, I'll post either a pic (if I get over to the hospital and use the cell phone's camera) or a link (if they have it posted on the hospital's baby webpage).

Blessings, and prayers for a productive Sunday for you all,

Mornin, an irish coffee please Janie.

A ridge will build over much of the eastern United States, leading to the warmest temperatures of 2008, thus far, in the Wabash Valley for early week.  However, two storm systems may bring more rain & the potential of a few severe storms by mid-late week.  I am tracking these two storm systems & will have an updated look on just how warm it will get this week on News 10 at 6 p.m. in Indiana, 7 p.m. in Illinois.

TODAY:
Sunshine with Some Clouds & Warm.  High 71.  Southeast Wind 7 mph.
TOMORROW NIGHT:  Increasing Clouds with a Few Sprinkles Possible After 12 a.m.  Low 50.  South Wind 7 mph.
MONDAY:

Becoming Mostly Sunny.  High 70.  West Wind 7 mph.

MIKE: Glad to see you in the Diner, we thought your igloo collapsed or something worse. Has the snow melted from your yard yet?

I've been around, just not much to say. Snows seem to be done finally for the spring, the ground thawed, and starting to settle some, to where ya don't sink 2" deep. Even the temps are warming. Still to wet for spring field work or planting to start. And the 30-day weather forecast saying above normal rainfall continuing, looks like it'll be a while yet.

JIMCG,

Did ya gets that new grandbaby yets.

Here's a video of when Bill Geist [CBS Sunday morning show] was down to Moon Shine. Debs in it wearing a pinkish jacket [standing behind him] and the big guy he's talking to is Jim. He lives next door to us.

Best gets round on some chores, hope ya'll has a gooden and thoughts for all those in need.

Lee .... good to learn about all that progress!  You did a lot.  My ice house is crouded in next to the meat packing plant. I did quite a bit on the layout today, also.
