Oh, I just wasn't sure what you meant.  I thought you were talking about the static grass info.  Lee and I both responded to that.

It's all good!  I wasn't upset at all, I was more confused then anything.  Now I know why!

BTW, I used to have hair down to my waist......really!  I just cut it about 5 years ago.

Oh, and Brandon, you might want to look into that trucking thing a bit more.  I got my CDL at 19, graduated second in my class to a guy who'd been driving dumpers for years and was only there to learn to drive the trailer, had a spotless driving record, and NOBODY would hire me because the insurance companies wouldn't touch me until I was 23, and some wouldn't touch me until I was 25.  My skills and squeaky clean record meant nothing.  They had a minimum age, and that was it.  Check into it, OK?

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back Brandon.  I went to school including some college to be a Finishing carpenter, then I landed a job as a Millwright, then I ran off and joined the Coast Guard.  I don't have any regrets about the loss of my first career path and I love the Coast Guard.

Rob, actually they had a Big Boy & Challenger in N-Scale and at another layout they had a challenger in S-scale and yet another layout had a Challenger in HO-Scale.   The only real difference was the volume of sound; the S-scale had a nice throaty hiss about it and the N-Scale was a little more quiet, but still had good sound.

My Picture sitting in the Mikado: that locomotive has been in 2 movies.  There are other pictures of me in that album, most of them with sunglasses on.  I lost a good portion of my iris color while in Kuwait (extended exposure to chlorine gas and ammonia dust) so I'm light sensitive now.  The good news is I have the night vision of a cat!

I'm not sure what you mean by that.  I clearly stated that those weren't my pics, and they were posted in a weekend photo fun thread on another forum (for thousands, maybe more, to see), so they weren't secret or anything.  Niether Lee nor I posted the pics, but instead the links, so you could clearly see where they came from.  If that isn't what you were referring to, could you please clarify?

Wow, this is the first time I've been to the forums in gosh, probably months! I must have been preoccupied with work and, dare I say it, "Halo 3" (the teens in here will know what I'm talking about). Wink [;)]

Anyway, I am worried that with my current profesion as a welder and mechanic for a small(ish) trucking company, I am setting myself up for a trucking career (I'm almost 18 years old, mind you). Don't get me wrong here, I would love to be a trucker! I can already drive a truck pretty good (but I can't get my CDL until I turn 18) But I am worried that I will somehow turn my back on my first career choice as a Locomotive Conductor/Engineer. Anyone else have (or had) this problem?

refill, thanks!

***Philip (& Garry), that answers my question. Looks like great stuff. What is the easiest method to make it work and do you treat it for permanence? Not sure I want to make a "fly swatter" for it.

***Lee, nice shot in the Loco. So, were those N locos you saw & heard?

Just watched that RFD train show. This one was Excellent! Just the right mix of history, steam, diesel, various scale models, demos, etc.. To bad the wife had to leave for the hospital after the first 10 minutes. Well, have stuff to do before the next train show at 8:00.

Hello all,

I see they locked down the face thread pretty darn quick so here is my submission:

http://family.webshots.com/photo/2743222600029441264yFXSwO?vhost=family

Garry nice detail shot!

Has anybody tried the flyswatter application for the static grass?

http://www.009.cd2.com/flyswat.htm

Rob, I saw a challenger and a big boy at the last train show in N-Scale, the sound was very close to the movies I've seen.

Here are some scenes with Woodland Scenics static grass.

In the first picture look below the leading axle of the locomotive half way between the branch line track and the main line track below. It's a dark patch with some light brown ground cover steaked though it.

In this picture, the hillside in the foreground has the static grass applied over layers of ground cover. There were two applications of ground cover (grass green first and tan second).

Rob, I've seen some great results for using static grass for taller grass in N scale.  I was thinking of trying it myself.  There's some guys on another forum I go to that have done it in N scale and the results are pretty good, but judge for yourself:

http://lh6.google.com/wcfn100/R-bU8bxWosI/AAAAAAAABSc/HPwPI1KJsu0/s800/DSC_0156.JPG.jpg

http://lh4.google.com/wcfn100/R-bZB7xWotI/AAAAAAAABS8/1vyPFZXds-k/s800/DSC_0157.JPG.jpg

This guy up next is supposedly writing an article on it for an N scale magazine.  The static grass colors used are Silflor Late Summer and Silflor Autumn mixed together. There are some Silflor Buffalo Grass tufts buried in there as well.  (This page takes a while to open, but it's worth it!)

***Jeffrey, thanks for taking top-of-page honors. Hands are tired from doing all those dishes and I was not about to dig into my limited train fund to pick up multiple days worth of tabs. Pirate [oX)]

***Garry, nice pic. Keep 'em coming.

Question(s): WS Static Flock Grass. Does it look good, is it tricky to use and would it work for N scale?

Hello....

Where's Jim GP today?

Inch ... I've reached the point where I'm not sure I'd be interested in going to Cubs or White Sox anymore. I don't like crouds now, and with all the drugs the athletes reportedly have used, baseball has lost its appeal in my opinion.

Everybody ... If you are I posted a picture in the branchline htead of my new branch line. Here's anothe picture here.

Good morning everyone......the sun finally made an appearance here this morning and the temp is headed straight up fast on the monitor now at 41.1F, which means we will be in the upper 50's later today. Doggone headcold is still hanging ON, very stuffy sinuses, but no more sneezing. Election day here in town, 4 running for two openings for Selectman, and 2 for Town Clerk position. I hope we have a good turnout, we have around 5000 registered voters, but for smaller elections we only get about 2000 off their butts sometimes.

NOTICE FOR TONIGHT ON HISTORY CHANNEL:

The history of locomotives is being aired. The time is 8pm EDST , The HISTORY Channel, under the title of Modern Marvels. This is in High Definition also, so if you get  those channels also, you can watch it in HiDef.

MIKE: Only 100 burgers ????  How far to you live from the place? 70F huh, I guess you will beat me again with your early planting, we just can't seem to hit the 60's yet this Spring!!

JEFF: What is this I hear that your picture is somewhere on one of the threads in the General Forum?

RYAN: Don't rush into wanting to be a Grandpa, because then you will be an OF too!! LOL

Ok, some layout plans to work....see you guys later....Chili for lunch I hear, with Cajon sauce.

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Good morning.

It's 53 here in west-central Louisiana this morning under a clear sky. Unfortunately it won't stay clear long. Expecting a high of 83 under a partly cloudy sky later today.

I had intended to take it easy yesterday but circumstances beyond my control intervened and I ended up mowing my sister's yard which is almost as big as my parents front yard and five times as rough. So today I'll be taking it easy.

Morning all!

Here in Central Indiana we're supposed to be looking at a beautiful day out there.  70 degrees and sunny!  Too bad I'll be stuck in this office all day.  Oh well, I had fun yesterday.  We had my parents come over and we grilled out in the back yard by the lake.  It was about 67 degrees and we just sat out there and ate, talked, and watched the sun go down over the lake.  It was quite nice!

So today I'm doing the work thing, how about you?

Oh, and.....

To Jim!  You're officially an old man now!  (cute kid!)

Mornin, an irish coffee please Zoe

TODAY:

Mostly Sunny.  High 69.  Southwest Wind 8 mph.
TONIGHT:
Few Clouds.  Low 47.  Southeast Wind 5 mph.

JIM CG,

Congrads on grandkid #1 [reminds me of our first one]. I'll give you the same advice I got "try not to spoil'em to much. I all ready know you won't listen to it, I didn't. Even with the cell phone pic, it'd still easy to tell ya have a might fine looking daughter n grandson. Oh, Mother baked a cake for ya'll.

GARRY,

You have to go back a lot of years to find a state map with Moon Shine listed, but it's still listed on the county map.  I'm with you on Chicago, other than the museums n watching a Cubs or a White Sox game, I have no reason to go there.

DICK'

Haven't had as many burgers as ya think, maybe a hundred or so. It might not be to bad a place to meet, but the nearest motel is in Casey, [bout 11 mile north] and it's a 30 or 40-mile drive for any good rail fanning on the weekend. Sure hope your cold gets better.

RYAN,

Mother told me Geist came out n set with her and some of the other girls from work and said, "he's even funnier in person.

Best gets round, hope ya'll has a gooden, thoughts for all those in need

Almost 3:00am. Decided if I couldn't fall asleep, I would play online. Watched some clips of (N) steamers with sound and I can't say I'm super impressed, although perhaps it's the quality of recordings on the clips? There was one with LOK sound that seemed pretty reasonable. Wish there was a LHS out here in the boonies I could drop in on and listen to some sound equiped locos in person. As long as they don't sound like those cheap plastic, battery operated Christmas trains that run on plastic track. (I like those around the tree, but sure wouldn't on my layout) OK, enough rambling.

Congratulations Jim! I look forward to the day I can call myself a grandpa.

Mike that burger video sure is a great one! I enjoy that Sunday Morning show on CBS when I get the odd chance to see it, and Bill Geist is a real hoot, seems like he had at least 2 or 3 of those Moon Burgers.
