in a ATSF mug & some of Sue's waffles,

please & thank you!

***Jeffrey, as an experiment, if blood sugar was the cause, would eating some cookies correct it or make it worse? I know nothing about that stuff but was tested some years ago as borderline diabetic, (like most Americans). I forgot, what type of track do you use on your layout?

NEWS FLASH: While Barbara was working in the ER last night, she got a call that her Dad had another stroke. She left work and met the EMTs who refused to bring him to the local hospital where Barbara works (lass than 5 minutes away). So she followed them to a further hospital only to get a call from them saying now they were taking him to Atlanta. (a good hour away). Turned out he had a bad seizure and hit his head on the way down, but no new stroke. Good thing Barbara had him taken off blood thinners or that could have been the end of him. He has a HUGE hematoma on his head. Story goes on...MIL is NUTS...etc...

Have made no decisions on which treasure to pick up next. Could have a NW2 plus another diesel for the same price as just one Shay or one Proto 0-8-0. OR, I could keep saving for one of those PCM E7's or E8's with all those bells and whisles...or should I say bells & horns. I want to win the Lottery!Sigh [sigh]

Off to do critter rounds. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Morning all.

I looked around to find some suitable pics to decorate the new place.  I came up with 3.  Hope you enjoy them.

Wishing you a great day

Sue: 1,000 posts is a good start. When you reach 6,000+ posts in just a couple of years of posting, you're truely a blabber mouth. I made no posts in my first year, so have only been posting for two and a half years.

Aw 'cmon....give her some credit.  The girl has 1000 posts in a year and a half, a family and a job, and she has a MRR mag next to her waffles!  She's pretty hard core if you ask me! Big Smile [:D]

WAFFLES FOR EVERYONE ON ME.

Mark,  I hope that you saved a few bargains for us.

Rob,  As much as I like shays,  Protos are usually nice.

Mitch,  Great layout photos.  Things look very natural.

Corey, I like the before and after photos.

I need to go remake my list of car numbers to take to the train show.  Just in case we find some good buys.  We wouldn't want to have any duplicates.

Sue

Morning, Janie - tall glass of Ed's OJ, glass of milk, cereal, and a JR regular, please. Thanks!  Yep, back table again today. And if you would bring me the spray disinfectant when I'm done, that would be good, too. Thanks again.

Paul and Mitch, I have been getting some of my crud loosened up. Hacked up some of the junk this morning, and I plan to be resting a lot today. I dearly would love to get this thing rested/coughed out by tomorrow a.m. or I may have to call the Dr. Unfortunately, our work health coverage is a joke - $25 copay on doctor's office visits, which is an annoyance (used to be lower). The killer is the deductible, which is $2500 (of which the company will reimburse us $500). And the admin. has notified us that the premiums are going up in 2008 for this 'privilege'...Banged Head [banghead]Censored [censored] Idiot admin. types must have one heckuva sweetheart deal with the insurance broker... Catch-22 is, when I checked about outside coverage earlier this year, there is that 'pre-existing condition' clause for new policies (which means my history of bronchitis, possible diverticulitis and glaucoma would NOT be covered if I got a new coverage - not even for my medications on any prescription coverage) Censored [censored]... I sent an email to our company's financial officer (who sent out the memo about the increase for next year) and suggested that if the broker can't find us any better coverage than that, 'perhaps' we should be checking out new brokers. (Fat chance of that!) SoapBox [soapbox]

But yes, I will be having it looked at if this thing hasn't faded away by tomorrow a.m., and I will get plenty of fluids and resting up today. Hate being sick...

Mitch, great pics from the Sebring show - whoever built that layout did one terrific job. I'd say even if you didn't find any bargains to buy, the trip was worth it for stirring up your creative juices. Yeah!! [yeah]  Oh, and ditto Garry's request about pics...Smile [:)]

Kevin, hope all goes through smooth as silk on the adoption for your family. How old is the tyke, and have you shown him some train stuff yet? Want to show him all the benefits of being in a MRR family, right? Wink [;)]

PC, good to hear you don't have to worry about your CFO going after you for the picture link.

Hmmmm, ya think?

As this Diner (me) - who never posts any long posts - might say, "No comment..."Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Corey - Model Power buildings! No wonder I didn't recognize them - haven't seen much of their buildings (kits) up close in a long while. Hobby Lobby only carries their built-ups, and the LHS and fairly-LHS carry either Atlas or Walthers kits. Having the different brands adds some more variety to the look of your towns, and you did a good job of 'upgrading' the details and adding the weathering. Thumbs Up [tup]

Going to finish up my breakfast and head home for a nap. Prayers for those in need of healing (including myself, yes).

Blessings,

Good morning diners.

OJ and oatmeal please.

Inch.. thanks for posting photos of Effingham. Intersting striping on CN unit number 6916. It's A WC unit, but I'm not familiar with that paint scheme. I'm more than familiar with the GTW GP38's, and they remind me of my GTW/CN days.

I worked on the layout last night, and spent some time with benchwork to extend the layout.

We had Thai food last night in Murray (a college town). I ate too much.

Time to get ready for church. I'll be back with a full belly because, they will have a Thanksgiving feast after services.

Happy Model Railroading.

Morning, coffee n a couple doughnuts Janie

A dreary start to the day, cold [33], cloudy n foggy and expecting a high around 50 with a NW wind, and maybe a little sun.

JIM,  some days the tracks are busy , then other days there might be only 5 or 6 trains [weekends are like that] during the day. Hope that cold gets betters soon, but it sound like bout doc time.

DICK,, in the summer is when we notice the noise most when the windows are open. We've had trains come through that's woke us up during the night, but most the time we don't notice them.

ROB,, thanks, some days I get to see a variety of power than what came through Friday. IC, CN, NS and even SF, WC, GT or SP still in colors.

JOHNBOY,, I'm still on DC too [not changing either] and I'm building my control panel in a drawer for the main lines.

 http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g214/inch53/011-5.jpg

My layout isn't near as big as yours, but it might work for you. Like the pics too.

PC,,, I've seen a lot worse, but it looks like it's healing well. Still keeping ya'll in our thoughts.

HOOPLE, sound like you made a good haul from the show, hope ya have as much luck today.

DER,, sounds like you did ok also, even got lucky with the cars.

KEVIN, good news on the adoption papers. Hope everything goes through in time for a great Xmas present.

MITCH,, that's a fine looking layout there, thank for showing it.

COREY,, yours layout and buildings looks fine too, thanks

Didn't get down to Flat Rock yesterday, Mother decided we needed to go to Effingham, but that was ok too. I had a little luck at the IC/CN yard

I've got a couple more to post laters.

Going out to my Mom's for lunch today, so there'll be plenty to eat. Best get moving, still got some more have-to chores that need doing. Hope ya'll has a gooden n stay safe

Howdy!

Kevin says:  "Got great news our lawyer has the babies adoption petition and he will file it with probate on Monday which means the adoption should be final before Christmas."

Kevin: That's terrific news! Let us know when the date is firmed up. We'll arange for the marching band. Another parade is in the works!

Jeff ...... Glad you're okay.

Paul ..... Live steam is really good stuff. Any more pictures?

PC .... Uh. That's quite a wound in Mrs. PC's knee. Yikes!

Mitch ... Need photos of the Sebring layout.

Corey .... I like the downtown buildings.

Good night!

The Shays are nice, but I hear the 0-8-0 is the bomb!  Tricky to get a decoder in though, but not impossible.  Theres a great thread on it here that you should probably check out.  Oh, and I'd buy a few 4-6-0's if they'd come out with them too!  I'd like to get a couple (three or six!) of the Russian Decapods too!

On another note, glad to hear the wife is a little better.  Been praying for her.  Sounds like shes had it rough with that cough.

Mark, nice haul!

Jim, she doesn't care about posting the pic.  Her poor leg is like twice it's usual size though!

Der, whats the matter?  You know what they say.....no guts, no glory!  In this case, the guts have all been cleaned up, but it still looks nasty if you ask me!  I have a hard time dealing with it, but, I love her.  What can I say?  We'll take the prayers though!

Kevin, yeah, it's gettting there!  Like I told Jim, that leg is already twice it's usual size.  You can already the color coming in.

Mitch, thats some layout!  That last shot is awesome!

Paul, Holmen is connected to La Crosse.

der5997, the two models are old model power kits. My brother and I tried to build them almost twenty years ago.  The third model is a DPM.  I have an extremely limited budget, so I've gone back to my junk pile to see what I could salvage.  Here are a couple of before and after shots.

Greyfox: We have those lean over gadgets at work for working on car engines.  They work great, but they are a little expensive.

Secondhand, those pictures look good, thanks for sharing with the group!

Sunday morning is the Valley Forge High School train show, going to sneak out first thing in the morning and see if I can't score more K2 ore cars for the layout.

in a SOUTHERN mug, last cup of the night.

***Jim, sorry you're still fighting that bug. My wife is still coughing too, but less often now. Sending healing thoughts your way. As for my stable, Paints & Miniatures....uh....oh yea, you said trains. Laugh [(-D] Have sold off most of my vintage diesel fleet over the past few years and bought many of the newer N scale steamers available. I am commited to a transition era layout that will also include early steam. (((What can I say, those little N scale RR mechanics must be pretty good at their jobs to keep all those years worth of steam locos running like new)))Big Smile [:D] ........................That being said, there are a half dozen diesels (modern era) that I really want, JUST BECAUSE THEY LOOK COOL, and for no other reason. I blame PCM, Atlas & Kato for making diesels that are so difficult to resist It causes me mental anguish. Maybe I should take them to court and then offer to settle for those locos I want?Wink [;)]Laugh [(-D]

***der, looks like both you and Corey picked up some good stuff. I get a kick out of how you place boxes on the layout. Makes perfect sense ofcourse.

***RT, thank you for the offer, but already have one of those in the stable here.

***Mitch, thanks for posting the pics. Love those gentle track curves and the layered bridges and the little people details.

Have a good night all. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Evening folks-trying to call it an early nite but we'll see...going to listen to some tunes before bed. Headphones [{(-_-)}]

Cold & wet was the order of the day here with an Alberta Clipper moving through. Usually they come when it's colder, & we get 1-3 in. of snow-but on the + side, they move through fairly quickly-hence the nickname "clipper." It was just warm enough for rain showers with it this time-but still nasty & chilly.

Jim-I did make it to Sebring today & I was very impressed with their layout! I mostly stood around drinking it in & observing. I did take a decent # of pics, but for some reason most came out crappy. Here's a few that came out OK:

What adds to the flavor too is the fact this is in the old Sebring depot along the NS ex PRR main-the trains come pounding by, well heard inside of course! Big Smile [:D] I'll be back again definitely! (Take care of yourself also-& GET SOME REST! (best remedy for a bad cold)

der5997 -agreed, money well spent. In time I'll figure that stuff out-gas is a new thing to me, so I get a little nervous around it. In our favor is the fact the water heater isn't terribly old (1989) & the furnace is brand new (2006). Also, I'm listening to classic country right now, & just finished listening to one of your province's most celebrated natives, Hank Snow & his song "My Nova Scotia Home."

All- I did get some model work in on my ATW ex SM ACF box earlier-finishing the underneath & the couplers, & starting on getting a good finish on the trucks. Now all that's left is wheels, 1 more end, & the roof.

Nite folks!

***Jeffrey, I wish Bachmann would come out with their 4-6-0 N scale version. I would snatch one up in a heart beat. The HO model (which they use a photo of) looks pretty neat, to my eyes. Fortunately, most of the new n scale locos (steam & diesel both) seem to be top notch runners these days. Except for slipping up and buying that big Kato diesel, I have been sticking with mostly steam aquisitions thus far.

I can justify the NW2 as a transition era diesel, right?

Evening Gang: I spent the day over at the live steam track. I took the new tractor over and used the front end loader with the hay forks for a fork lift. We had to move a bunch of heavy stuff to get it out of the way of the new main line loop. This is only the 4th time we have moved it so this time we put it in a place by the fence out of the way. We also knocked down the old engine house. It was built in 1972 by an older gentilman and I was really sorry to see it go but it was badly rotted out and really didn't take much to bring it down.

Jeff good to hear you are feeling better. Take it easy for a couple of days.

JimCG: What I said to Jeff goes for you too.

Corry: Nice layout. I like the main street buildings. Where is Holman? was born and raised in Milwaukee. I'm also in HO. Thanks for the pictures.

Flip, what's up with the hair cut?

Speaking of snow, has anyone heard form Snoah? I sent him an E-mail a while back but never got an answere.

Tomorrow I'm going to go and run my diesel over at the LS track. I need to drain out the old gas and refill with fresh. I'm also going to run some Berryman's through the carb.

Time for bed. My best to everyone on sick call. Take care of yourselves.

Good evening all

I will have a piece of pumpkin pie and some milk please.

Been busy lst couple of days. Dinner has moved, kind of sudden but we will get use to the new place.

PC wait a little while it will probable get psychadelic colored that will be an interesting shot.Glad to hear she is doing well.

Jeff I did the same thing back when I was in collage and after spending the night in the hospital the doctors told me never freeze fresh fish use it that day, only put fish in the freezer that is frozen, and always clean your fish in cold water before cooking the slim on the fish triggers bacteria in 5 minutes. Oh yeh took me almost 5 years before I would eat fish.

CApe jim hope you continue to improve.

der your scene is looking good. Nice job.

Got great news our lawyer has the babies adoption petition and he will file it with probate on Monday which means the adoption should be final before Christmas.

The foster boy we have meet his forever family today and he likes them and wants to give them a "try" he has been thru a lot and this is a major milestone for him.

Weather here was cold today and rainy yesterday. 15 minutes north of here got about 5-6 inches of snow and Sugarloaf USA got a pretty good layer. Drive down the road and all the mountains are snow covered on top.

Take care Kevin

Good evening Diners:

Mark, TRAIN SHOW Day indeed!  That’s rare in this part of the world, so I relish being able to take one in. (2 in the last 2 months is more rare for me Thumbs Up [tup])  Here’s what I brought home.

The trailer flatbed had the white container that’s on top of the two Maersk SeaLand ones glued on it with paint, hence the white streak where it tore off.  The three hoppers are all the same road #, but they are CN, which I need to bolster my fleet.  The trailer at the building is fruit from Seattle!  I figure it’s Canadian Maritimes fruit being shipped west.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

The cars along the building? All 12 were on an open car transporter that I saw at the Truro show, but didn’t want to run an open one. I’d rather save my $ for the 80 ft closed jobbies. However, I got to thinking after the Truro show that if one turned up at the next show, it would be a cheap source of vehicles.  As I was buying it and explaining to the vendor that I didn’t really need the rolling stock, the chap next to me said he would like that, but didn’t need the vehicles! So we split the price and I scored the 12  for $5.

Finally, and not in the pic, I was looking for a set of Z wheels for the container crane I have yet to scratch for the dock. It will run on two Z rails, and I need the wheels from two Z trucks to make that happen.

There was a Z modeler, Mitch, who shows regularly.  I told him what I was planning and asked if he had any junker freight cars. Turns out he very generously did, and gave me a Railbox 50 ft (2.75 inches!) he didn’t need.  So now I have less excuse to build that crane, once the blue desert has disappeared that is. Big Smile [:D]

Well, I’m off to bed. Flip, great to see you found the new address.

Jeff, I’d say that frozen fish was off when it was packed, or got thawed, spoiled, and re-frozen.  Words with WalMart…do you still have the package?

Mitch, good choice on not blowing up the house. Money well spent, Id say.

CapeJim: I’m hoping that the high speed due Monday will render a change of browser unnecessary. Still, I’ll keep Firefox in mind if it doesn’t, thanks.Bow [bow] Had great service at Future Shop, BTW while picking up the wireless router and PC card we’ll need for the LAN once we have high speed. He was watching the local college football game, a semi final for the national college title. He should have been playing, but wrecked his knee mid-season. His team won, BTW.

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing (PC, I passed on your viewing offer!) comfort and peace. Yes, prayer sure does work. Angel [angel]

Evening, Janie - I'll be at the back table (again). Just a hot cocoa for me.

Need something warm and soothing for my throat. Thanks, Flip! You're probably right, I might not recognize you with the new haircut. So how come you got the new 'do? Wink [;)]

PC, that's a lot of metalwork! No wonder your wife's hurting, with all that. Uh, I sure hope you asked your wife's permission before posting that link...Shock [:O]

Oh, and Corey - I wouldn't be bashful about your work - your pics look great! Love your work on the buildings and the stone retaining wall. Thumbs Up [tup] Who makes the middle of those three buildings? - It doesn't look like a DPM product (which the other two appear to be). Nice work on your rocks in the overall view, too. Smile [:)]

Good shopping, Mark! Yeah!! [yeah] Hope you get as lucky on tomorrow's trip to the train show! Those are some great prices. Will you be wearing your mask on the second trip, too? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Rob, on your purchase decision, that'd depend on how much you like steam or diesel, I would say. Might depend on what other locos you have - does your (future) RR prefer one brand of loco (like Lima, EMD, Alco, etc.), or do you mix it up on your stable choices? (locos, not the equine kind...)

My cold/virus/whatever isn't completely gone. Dead [xx(] I was coughing a lot this afternoon, and when I went to church earlier tonight, I couldn't sing worth a hoot (usually I can do pretty well on singing). Almost have trouble talking above a whisper, really. Left a message on the small group co-leader's machine (croaked it, more like) letting them know I wouldn't be there in the morning for church or small group there.

This afternoon, I did get some stuff tossed away/shredded - a little start on the degunking of the apartment. I also got out the Dixie's Diner (SS Ltd. kit), and may wash that off and (after it dries) see about gluing it together tonight. Also will try to get a couple of the Grandt Line relay boxes assembled, since they're smaller and should take less time.

I'll be sipping up my hot cocoa at the back table. Sure would love for this thing in my throat and chest to go away - and forget the road back!

Blessings and prayers for all the ailing and in need of comfort,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

***Jeffrey, I wish Bachmann would come out with their 4-6-0 N scale version. I would snatch one up in a heart beat. The HO model (which they use a photo of) looks pretty neat, to my eyes. Fortunately, most of the new n scale locos (steam & diesel both) seem to be top notch runners these days. Except for slipping up and buying that big Kato diesel, I have been sticking with mostly steam aquisitions thus far.

I can justify the NW2 as a transition era diesel, right?

Eyes are better now. It was very wierd...vision was vibrating, making it hard to see the type. Took blood pressure, that was fine. A mystery!

I'm a diesel buff myself. I have some steamers but I hardly ever run them. They are: Athearn Genesis 4-6-2 Light Pacific (non-operational), Bachmann 4-6-0 Hall class (can hardly pull three freight cars) and a Union Pacific 0-6-0 Grayhound.

Cederstrand: I'd go for the 0-8-0, although I am a steam buff.
