David Parks I am the terror that flaps in the night!
Good Evening All,
Hope Jeff is doing ok - nasty business all that. He he we're up to three pages first day and all. At least the diner still has trucks that are certified under it so we can move at a moments notice. Don't know how the web works, but 10,000 responses a year (we were well on our way there as of yesterday) is probably a lot more load than the site wants to carry. Are there any other sites or threads on this whole arrangement that even come close to our traffic?
Philosophy 101 seond semester: operating.
As i was running trains tonight (nothing like a noisy steam locomotive to inspire you) it occured to me that steam engines attached to passenger cars are a fair bit more finicky to run than freights. That said, the prototype I'm modelling had(has) as much passenger traffic as it had freight at least in the non wartime years and besides I like passengert cars. Regretably I will probably have to fill in my swing bridge once construction is further along as I just can't get passenger cars to traverse the cuts reliably. Just won't happen and I don't want to spend the first hour of every evening doing track w..k. Problem is the swing bridge is on curved sections of track with no way to change the configuration and even the little bit of expansion and contraction I get is enough to mess things up (we're talking about less than .020") on an 89' car with three axel trucks. Add to that the fact that i have elevation changes like the prototype has in real life and you can get a mess (sorry Fergie) in a hurry. So at some point I'll solder the cuts back together and file them smooth and get a glider to duck under the tracks (four on two levels). Try as I might I can't see any way to get a gate installed on a straight section but it just kills me to admit defeat. But other than that life is good. anyone else have these issues?
Set me up with a root beer float if you will please Chloe and I'll have my cake and eat it too. Just gonna sit back here for a spell and ruminate on my predicament. CUL,J.R.
***Lee, Thunder Snow is very cool. Only experienced it twice here on the ol' farm. And one of those times it turned into an ice storm so by the next day it sounded like the 4th Of July in the forest behind us.
That vintage cow & calf loco combo sold tonight for enough to pay for 2/3rds of a new Kato NW2. (I can live with that) Now just need to figure out how to come up with the remaining 1/3rd.
Anyone know where the cheapest place is to by an oval of Bachmann (HO) ez-track? I need it for wife's table layout.

Darn, we didn't even make it 1 full year in the old diner.
RT: Did you get my post about curves this morning?
Jeffery: Keep those pictures coming; your layout is looking good.
All: Sorry still kind of busy for us Coast Guard guys and I can't keep up with all the posts until the big pond freezes over.
We had snow here this morning, but only a trace amount. Yesterday we had ‘thunder snow" mixed with rain, sleet, hail, and freezing rain. So you guys in Main are not that special, we get the grand sampler pack of weather to choose from in the late fall.

Phil, he also locked Electrolove's phone call from Sweden thread.
I have a feeling things may get animated this weekend around here... ...just a feelin'!

Hello diners. here's a scene that includes my shed that I made this week from scrap box materials.
Afternoon, Diners! Mmm, Ryan, those shrimp look pretty tempting. Zoe, dish me up an order of those, please, and a root beer float. Thank you!
Corey (Secondhand) - first, to the Diner (round 2, so to speak)! As for your (humorous, right? ) coffee choice, if you want anything that fancy, you'd better be able to fix it yourself or walk one of our virtual servers through how to fix it for you. What scale do you model, layout (or dreams for one) style/era/RR, etc.? Fill us in, please.
We're generally - as others have said already - a nosy friendly and sociable bunch in here. Since you're new, you might get away with hitting the TOP your first time, but what Dick said is the usual. Chloe can work out a pay-as-you-go plan for doing dishes if you don't have the plastic or cash. Of course, there's always her cousin Vinnie's 'finance plans', if you catch my drift... (do not get on his bad side, though ).
Well, I'm going to chow down on some shrimp 'n' garlic bread for now. If I don't get the sauce all over it, I'm also fiddlin' around with some possible plans for a spare room layout once I get more space.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

Greetings Secondhandmodeler and welcome to the virtual Diner, formerly the Coffee Shop. Yes, the rules are being enforced a little heavier these days. It seems like the tolerance level of individuals is lowering, which leads to "flaming" and replies that are not very appropriate. It looks like a more professional, mature approach is being applied.
The Diner ( being Virtual of course) is just like a "real time" Diner, where we can chat about various subjects pertaining to ourselves and what we are doing, as well as support to the modelers in the Diner, just as we would if we took a break from work and visited the cafeteria or Diner in this case.
We kid around, nothing ever serious or hurtful of course, and those that hit the top of the new page pay the "virtual" check for the Diners on that page.
Hey folks, I've never been in this coffee shop before. Greetings, I'll have a double mocha soy chai tea peppermint schnapps's alfredo cappuccino! Just kidding, coffee for me. The reason I decided to pop my head in here is the forum police. I noticed they have stepped up the preventative maintenance. I was surprised to see quite a few threads locked today. I guess they are just enforcing their rules. I found it ironic that this happened after a nonsense thread about them censoring topics. At the time, I had stated my opinion of how I was surprised how mellow MR is about enforcing there rules. Two days later and it's a brave new world.
I didn't know where else to post this comment, I didn't think it was appropriate for a thread on it's own. Has anyone else noticed the stepped up enforcement?
I had received an email from one the MR policemen stating nicely that my subject/reply about some danger in food on the market was not train related, so he had to pull my comment/reply. I was totally lost by this comment because I had not made any such remark since the contaminated spinach probelm way back in the Spring. Then , last night when I went to the Diner to see what this was all about, I noticed that one of the Diner memebers, I forget who, had replied to me about food. I was totally lost on that one too because I have not mentioned anything about national food issue since the Springtime.
It looks to me like the server had a problem with corrupt file/s and the watchdogs had to clean house.
With the heavy rains yesterday here, I headed out to my LHS and really hit paydirt. He had some "never out of the original box" locomotives that an older gentleman had returned, and I was able to get the following for a total of $200:
Atlas Alco RS-1, NYC, a Proto 2000 GP7 NYC, a Proto 2000 E8/9 , all for $200 . I also picked up a TrueLine Gold series C-Liner NYC ( TrueLine is a Canadian company, formerly Life-Like Canada, and this new company has really nice quality products !!! ) , 8 cars, and a caboose.

Afternoon folks! I know I posted this on page 413 this morning, but does not show up in the old diner, so I will repost again here in the new diner.
Hot coffee for me please, my feet feel like ice cubes!
Was out all day taking another class yesterday for the new web design projects I do now. So, now times to catch up in here....
Thanks to all who noticed and commented on the roundhouse project updates, Duke, J.R, Der John, Dick, Ed, Indiana Phil, Mike, Sue,
Der John - In answer to your question, the spacing for the expansion joints grid in HO scale are approximately a scale 10' X 12' apart. Oh, and funny Kermit cartoon too!
PhilnRunt Phil - The clothespin factory starts shipping as soon as the outdoor dryer season starts up again, and BTW, it makes for a great energy savings!
Jerry - Nice oil pump on the layout out!
Rob - good news on the water barrels and tanks being full again! We only got about an inch of rain from that system yesterday.
Colby - Wow, snow huh!
Catch you all later!
