Dave...Nice joB on the Pennsy tender can't wait to see the whole engine...
Der...Some more fine modeling...Thanks for the tips...
JR.....I just got 2 "junk box" deals on Ebay and have some cars that will need trucks and pins...I can use about anything frames, broken shells,I can find a use for just about anything...
Sallie just finnished watching Her soaps and is heading for a nap and I think I'll take one too....You all have a good one...Jerry
Thanks for the compliments on my tender, all! I should soon have the 4-8-2 chasis to start building the loco.
If only I had a budget to fit that huge tender; there's room enough for a Tsunami sound decoder in there! Instead, the $20 DZ123 is more in line with what I can spend at the moment.
I'll have the Krabby Patty...
Here at work writing... One manuscript just about ready to submit; another in its embryonic stages. Yawn!

***Dave, that long-haul tender looks exceelnt. As I have come to expect from you, "Well done!"
***Der, nice progress on the layout. When you are all done, how about building one for me?
Good afternoon to all, it is a chilly 44F here and steadily dropping from the high of 60F during the rainstorm last night. Winds are howling here at 25 mph, but a much bigger blast of cold air is headed here for the weekend straight from the Yukon, and, a possible snowstorm on Monday!!
COLBY: As you have read from Cory , the cost of repairs to computers my the Geek Squad, of Fire Dogs, is mighty expensive. You can buy a new Dell computer for around $500 that has DUAL processors, and 2 GB of RAM, so why on earth would anyone want to spend $400 to repair and older PC? Makes no sense!! If the cost to repair ANY piece of equipment is over 50% of the cost of a replacement, forget it unless it has great restoration value, i.e. an antique. Now ask yourself this question, if you take Jeff's advice, and others who said, keep your anti virus program updated at all times, and get a GOOD program, like Defender, Norton, McAfee, etc, ( there are more, and they all are much better than none or an oudated program), is spending $20 for Defender etc. cheaper and far less annoying than spending $400 to repair?? I think you know the answer Colby, now go convince dad. BTW, did you get any snow up your way during this last storm? I know that Fort Kent received over a foot, but you are much further south right?
J.R.: Better bring in the firewood to the garage, it will hit about 12F Sunday morning and again next Tuesday, maybe a snowstorm on Monday too. Good day to do some MRR work
FERGIE: The seas are about to get rough your way, several LOWS are coming out of Canada and swinging back up over the St Lawrence to the North Atlantic....this is not a good time of the year to where you are mon ami!!! Be careful out on deck!!! As for Train trip on the Canadian built 0-6-0, 7470, it is the FIRST weekend in January, not February. Sunday River is about 1 hour from North Conway, it sure would be nice if you could make the trip in January and take that train ride.
DER JOHN: What are spiking your cider with these days? You are like a man on fire with your layout....what an inspiration you are John !!!!!!!
MIKE: Plenty of time to work on your layout these days, too cold and rainy to be outside in the midwest right? How is the price of Pellets these days? I'll bet after the next cold wave comes south they will jump again, they are $5.35 a bag here. And you can hardly buy a Pellet stove, all back ordered, so you know what that will do to the price of pellets.
Time to put another log on the fire, see ya later,
Good afternoon All from the Grand Banks of Newfoundland!
Had a nice little post all set up yesterday for the CS but after 15 minutes of typing I hit the "post" button and it was gone, gone and lost forever! Darn internet system logs off after 10 minutes of inactivity and will dump anything not saved
Another issue is if we are on a heading of 240T then no internet! Guess what heading we've been on for the last 2 days... Life on the Briny Ocean tossed is not always a fun time!
Especially in Novemeber and on the Flemish Cap (We're heade there as I type!)
Hopefully I will get into the building of kits soon!
Der: Making excellent progress and it looks very promising. More incentive to re-route the Messes main Lines, That's right I only have one main line, well that settles it I'll have to put in a second one! I will be home for Christmas! barring any disaster...
Hoople: I take it you are getting the Aethern BB? Nice! if it runs anything like the Challenger you won't be disapointed!!!
Jeff: Good move on not letting the infection get too out of control But please take care of yourself!
Dick: I here ya loud and clear buddy. I saw the news the other night hard to believe they couldn't get the flooding under control but if the hole is big enough time to bail out and not bail. I've been asked to go skiing with friends come February down to Sunday River. Still on the fence as I want to find out how Lisa's Mom fairs this week but I hear it's just an hour from Conway...
JohnyBoy: Glad to here your team got the Tiger by the Tail! Oops sorry that's Hamilton... Ok They didn't miss the Boat! Ooops sorry that's Toronto!!! Well I'm glad they beat Winnipeg! I was routing for them regardless.
Inch: I know you said something to me the other day but I'm down to a minute before I loose this Ya say it's not true.
Baylor: Nice to know your fiance is into the gardening (my other passion) I still want to pick your brains on CTC and semaphore Automation. Glad to see Ed was able to meet you as Teffy wasn't sure if he was enroute or not. Say hi to Bob for me and tell him I'll give him a call when I get home!
Anyway times up

, Jeff - Welcome back and glad to hear you're on the trail to recovering from that yucky stuff. Don't forget to continue taking whatever meds the Drs. may have given you to kick the rest of that bug out. I'm taking my antibiotic for my bug (though I don't think my Dr. gave me the heavy-duty stuff that yours did), too.
PC, I tried reworking the layout plan last night to resemble the changes you and Paul had mentioned. I'll post an image of it later today (after my opthalmologist appointment).
Last night at the MRR club, we got most of the bed in place for the staging yard (back wall of the layout room), using some of the former staging yards, so we have a lot of the tracks in place - just need to add the ladder turnouts and extend the far end of the yard. Gonna be one long yard - I think it's about 12 tracks, mostly about 15-20' long. That can be a lot of cars, even using modern/longer ones! Also, I got my order in (Walthers single track truss bridge, (2) Heritage Furniture background building kits, couple of CMW delivery van trucks (yellow & silver), and a couple of WS's newer kits (structures, and desert plants). The WS desert plants kit may be pretty usable, with some paintwork and modification. The structures kit is more like what one of your middle school or elementary school students would use for a class project - I could probably get as good of materials for less at local Hobby Lobby or art supply store (IMHO). Well, I learned anyway...
Cold here this a.m. and still not that warm - only supposed to reach the mid-30's at best today. Possibly more frost in the a.m. to scrape.
Need to get back to the 'w' thing for now, since I'm getting off at about 1 p.m. for lunch and then eye doctor's appointment. Going to enjoy the afternoon off. Tempted to take an ORF nap after the Dr's. visit is over.
Great to have you back Jeffrey! Laissez les bons temps rouler!
Blessings,

Around here it would appear that the last of Indian Summer has run for the hills! It's pretty nippy in the mornings around here nowadays!Today: sunshine early, then partly cloudy, cool - high: near 45Tonight: partly cloudy, chilly - low: 28Right now it's a brisk 29 degrees. Looking for snow later in the week though........several times!Went to class last night and I was on fire! Hittin' on all 8 cylinders! I love it when I'm in tune with the discussion, but at the same time I try to hold back some because I don't want to just dominate the discussion, ya know? Sometimes I tend to be like a bull in a china shop, and thats not good. It's nice to be "on it" though!Well, I wasn't around a lot yesterday. The wife got her staples out in the morning, then I played catch-up at work, then it was off to school in the evening! Glad that day is over! That was a long one! Just got work today, so a welcome break......sort of.Whats up with you today?
Oh, BTW Dave V., the tender looks awesome!

Mornin,, an irish coffee Zoe, cold n icy here today under clear skies.
JEFF,,, it's good to hear from ya again and that your recovering.
PHILRUNT,,,, I think it's the old Pennsy [CSX] that you can see part of from 70, but I could be wrong, we don't get past Effingham that much on 70. The IC yard is just off of US-45, across from the mall and in behind Bob's Salvage on the N end, and most the power sets round there at the office. There's bout always some IC power setting round there waiting for a crew change or working the yard. The overpass we were on is at the S end. We've never been hassled over there, and I bout always check in the yard office n tell'em what I'm doing. The old Pennsy yard is a little harder to get to.
DAVE,, the tender looks great, can't wait to see the engine.
DER,, the layout just keeps looking betters.

Good Morning All,
Getting ready to go to the airport to fly out to LA with the CFO. We'll see if the laptop co-operates this trip as I have a new wireless card to try. It is up to 50 already and the rain has stopped so hopefully there won't be too many delays.
Jeff - welcome back! Glad everything is working out for a complete recovery. We were right worried when you posted then went missing on us. Kept your seat warm here in the diner though.
Not much to report on the MRR front, mostly clean up prior to the trip.
Jerry - the privy is a single door model that came with the Grandtline grab bag. I'll put the other bits of the Model Power kits to use as I fit the houses to the display at the museum. If you need, we have a bunch of trucks and bits from the accumulations of N stuff. Let me know what you might need.
Wll, gotta run - just wanted to drop in and say hi on my way out. CUL, J.R.
Evening folks-like last nite, I'll have a Pepsi from the machine out...wait a minute, Garry's buying root beer floats? I'll have one of those-been years since I had one!
Well, looks like the diner's rockin' tonite-all because Jeff's back-WB Jeff! there were a lot of very concerned folks about you here. I know you're zzz-ing now but looks like the party's still going.
Lee (in Euclid) is right about those Staph infections making the rounds in this neck of the woods-been a lot of talk on the news lately here.
Dave-your tender looks fantastic! Although I'm an HO person (yeah, yeah I know) My other half is N, & she loved your layout & what you did with the space you had. (some inspiration for a future coffee table kinda/sorta layout for her here? we'll see as time goes on.)
Der-keep the layout progress pics coming-definite inspiration for me. (side note-Dawn (other half) was at work earlier & I had some classic bluegrass cranking as I was working on my projects in the basement-she came home early & laughed because I had my tunes cranking-I had to run to turn them down since she's not a bluegrass fan)
Bob K-as to the footboards/roofwalks-you're right on that-HA!
Hoople-I used to play trumpet/cornet in the marching band in high school years ago, but I can't even hold a tuning C now-if I started to play I'd empty this place in 5 seconds flat!
All-yeah I know it's late & I'm chatty, but on VACATION so the alarm clock isn't set tomorrow. Been rainy as all get out today (.44"). Dawn filled the bird feeders yesterday, & although they usually stay in it seems when it's raining, they didn't today-at 1 point I counted 5 cardinals (at 1 time!) a Red-Bellied Woodpecker, the very large Bluejay that's been here before, not to menton the usual sparrows, nuthatches, & chickadees. Made some decent progress on my painting/decaling/weathering, although I've noticed some small pieces/parts have turned up missing with a few things after the move here. I guess I was "all over the shop" (as my Aussie friends would say) when I was getting things together to move.
My Mom called asked me to do a few things for her tomorrow, but said not to call her too early. Looking at the clock, I think I can oblige her!
Nite All!
inch53- Is that the yard you see as you drive on I-70? If not, just where is it? And what's the chance of stumbling upon an IC engine there at any given time? I have made 2 trips to Illinois to get pics of IC, and from the maps it looked like it would be nearly impossible to NOT gets pics.
Nearly.
Ohhhh welllll, it worked out, got to getapieceapie at the Blue Roof Cafe (or whatever they call it), the home of the mile high pie!
Amyjo told me to get my Schraeder's RR catalog out, circle what I wanted for C-mas and give it to her. The catalog, I mean. Gonna hit it as soon as I finish up here.
Been working between turkey-fests on getting a room addition weatherproofed, our nephew is coming in from Hawaii to spend C-mas with us, and I don't think he wants to rough it in an unheated, unfinished room, so we have been fighting the cold November rain and sealing it up as best we can. Heat the can-apply the weatherseal- re-heat the can. Having a good time doing it, so it's no biggie.
JefferyW- Cheated death again, eh? Good man. He just doesn't know who he's messin' with! Glad you sent 'im packing!
der- Good clinic on laying roads! You make it look easy. And good!
Looks like alot of layouts are moving along, and if everything goes to plan (now I plan for utter chaos and absolutely no time, so it should work out fine) early next year, after the nephew heads back to paradise, I'll at least be able to set up a small switching layout on a folding table. Kind of looking forward to it. Got more than enough stuff, just need the place to put it.
Stay dry, and warm too if you want to be greedy about it, and take good care!

der.. Excellent advise on that product, I have seen ads for it but have never run across it in the shops that I get to.
Thanks all for the congrats on our Football Team. The city has really gone nuts here today. There was 8000+ fans who turned up at the Stadium this afternoon to welcome them home from Toronto. Outside field and it was -31 degrees C. Now that is dedication and love. The Saskatchewan Roughriders RULE.

Hey Jeff, good to see you back home! Staph infection…they can be tough to treat all right. Very glad it wasn’t worse. The “no feeling” plus “grey colour” had us really imagining dire things.
CapeJim: You asked how I made my roads with the AMI material. The best way to show you is to show you the parking lot of that station which I did this evening. OK, except in rush hour a road isn’t the same as a parking lot, but the basic construction is the same.
My scenery base is the blue foam desert seen as the blue strip behind the station.
The AMI isn’t thick enough to come up to anything like rail-head height at a grade crossing, so unless you want to waste $s and double up the AMI, use a sub-roadbed of card. I used the box the AMI came in for this section of road, and had just enough over to piece together for the parking lot. It doesn’t have to fit exactly, and in the case of roads, if it’s wider than your strip of AMI for the road itself, you have a lower shoulder on each side of the road up or onto which to bring your ground cover. I glued down the card with Liquisilk® www.liquisilk.com I’m giving that url because they kindly sent me two free tubes when I asked about the product, having seen the “New Products this week” bit about it back in the Spring. Why use that? It’s waterproof, and if you use a lot of water in your scenery techniques, as I tend to in fixing stuff with dilute glue, I figured this stuff isn’t going to dissolve the way white glue might.
OK, so the card is in. Next cut the AMI to fit your need. I use the stickier side down usually just like normal. On the parking lot I used it on top as I wanted maximum adhesion for the ballast layer.
Rub it firmly down (don’t forget the silicone paper!)
For paved roads, the next thing is to smooth out the wrinkled surface of the AMI. I use WS FlexPaste for this, in as many coats as it takes. Since it brushes on easily, and dries fairly quickly, several coats aren’t as daunting as they sound. (HO modelers might have to use two side to side strips of AMI to get sufficient width, and the centre seam would be filled by the FlexPaste.)
Sand down the final coat, dust it off, and paint on the pavement. The shoulders have to be gravelled with the ballast of your choice.Don’t forget the line markings. I’m going to try strips cut from the edges of sheets of self stick postage stamps for the white, and colouring same befor cutting the strips for the yellow on this new road.
For the parking lot (or for gravel roads) simply ballast and rub down firmly (bring out the heavy roller, OzJim ) Again, don’t forget the silicone paper for protection. Brush up stray ballast, and you’re done.
That’s it for me today.
All, and God Bless. Prayer for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.

Welcome back, Jeff!
My N scale Pennsy M1 4-8-2 kitbash proceeds... The tender is on its way to being done:
This "foobie" PRR 210F75 long-haul tender was kitbashed by splicing together two 110P75a tender shells from the old Minitrix K4 (Model Power has leftover Minitrix K4 parts in stock). The tender floor is stretched from a ConCor J3a tender (it has the correct 6-wheel trucks and water scoop). I ended up having to shave off some rivets and reapply them in the correct vertical position (the 110P75s has rivets along the slope sheet; the 210F75 does not). Scratchbuilt a new deck, tank hatches, and doghouse from styrene, and finished it with a Trainphone antenna system with scracthbuilt induction coils.
I'll put a DZ123 decoder in the tender.
The 4-8-2 to haul this tender shipped today... I'll be trying to turn a Spectrum Light Mountain into a brutish PRR M1 (#6811, one of the 1926 Baldwins).
Evening!
It's a bitterly cold evening here, hoping and praying for snow.
Chloe, I'll have the Onion Ring Tower and a coke float.
Jeff: Good to see ya back! Hope y'er foot heals up!
Well guys... it's closing in... closer... closer... closer...
FIVE DAYS UNTIL MY BIG BOY SHIPS!
(whether that's from florida, or from china, I'll never know. Let's hope it's florida... then new york... then here.)
I'll definatly try and get the club to let me haul a 320 car train with my big boy and challenger teamed up, although I highly doubt theres enough room.
Wait a second, Marching band?
CRUD!
Gotta run and get my snare drum & sticks guys!
Later!
ANNOUNCING A BIG PARADE IN DINERLAND TOMORROW! WE'RE CELEBRATING JEFF'S RETURN! THE MARCHING BAND WILL BE IN FULL UNIFORM!
I'LL SUPPLY ROOT BEER FLOATS AFTER THE PARADE IN THE DINER.

***Jeff, WELCOME BACK! Great to hear you (& the Docs) were able to beat that infection off. You had us all worried about you.
***Steve, your fiance is a Master Gardner...that's great for you and a garden RR. My wife & I have grey thumbs. Of course having free roaming Pygmy goats doesn't help any.
***Colby, since I have been using Trend Micro PC-cillin (a bit pricey) over the past number of years, my puter has remained virus free. And to remove any spyware & other junk this program might miss, I use the FREE version of Ad-Aware SE Personal. I highly recommend both of these.
JAMBO: My favorite little black manx kitty (Jambo) got his front foot stepped on by our stallion (complete accident). Wife & I went out to pick up supplies to cast it, only to find upon returning home Jambo was sorta putting weight on it. Sooo, no cast. We will keep an eye on him and see how he does. Ouch, poor kitty.
LOTS of rain here and the ground is actually saturated at the moment...real mud!
Jeff is back and sounding like his ole self. Let the party roll.
Evening Gang and especially Jeff. Not much going on here. I moved all the last years hay down to the lower hay lot. Now I can get to it with the new tractor. John came and got his tractor and will take it out to his place to haul hay in from the fields. We may haul the new tractor out Wednesday. We need to see if the truck will handle it also.
JimCG: The turnouts I was talking about are in the lower right below the depot. Move them toward the depot and that should let you have a swing out for entry with only one track on it.
Well I think that I'll head out and see what else is going on.
Good Night All
