Evening folks-my "usual" please! (Hmm-pecan pie?) Dawn asked me the other day if I'd ever tried it, which I haven't-I guess this is the best time to!)

Phillip-hoping Locoindy 76's wife can hold off for another 24 hrs then I can share their birthday! Big Smile [:D] Nah, can't wish that on her. I was due on 12/26/65, & Mom didn't go into labor until 12/30, & then I didn't make my appearance until 10AM on the 1st! She told me several times over the years that she was glad I wasn't the 1st one born in town in '66, as they take your picture for the paper, & I guess after being in labor for 36 hrs, you don't look very photogenic! (I was 4th I think-it was busy at the hospital that night!) Dad & my Mom's 2nd to youngest sister shares my birthday too-kinda weird! Also there was a girl I had a crush on 15 yrs ago that shared my b/day (6 yrs older) & a female friend that was born the same day as me! (7 hrs earlier & 20 miles south!)

Been a fairly quiet day. I did some model work, & coming along on my next Railbox. While over at Mom & Dad's, going thru old boxes of junk & more junk, I found my old AHM "Chessie System" Pacific. Geez was that an awful running loco. Thinking about it, it may be a good candidate as a "static park display" attesting to HVS's power back in the day. Still need to find my Atlas Chessie System SD35 & AHM B&O 0-4-0 - I thought they'd be in the same box. Oh boy-it's like a flea market there.

I did make time too to head out to the Ohio Packaging siding also, to see what interesting boxcars were there to get pics of. There were several, & while there I lucked out as the Ohio Central's daily train up to Warwick came by:

It added a few more cars to get pics of! Wink [;)]

Oh well-better hit it-early day tomorrow but only a half day so that's good! Nite All!

News on one of our members (though strangely, he doesn't post here much) that you may all know from other forums (and the occasional stop in the CS)..........

Locoindy76's wife will probably deliver sometime tonight!  Things are going slow (about halfway along at this point), but they're moving along.  Delaney Nicole will be a December 31st girl!

Check out delaneynicole.com for updates as well.

Her brother is a computer programmer so he is in lobby updating as soon as possible!

Good evening Diners:  A quick drop in to update on the blue desert covering blitz.  I finished doing the sawdust / white glue ground cover at just before 10:00 Atlantic Time. The only major blue remaining to cover is roadway and yard gravel and ballast. Here's the situation on Dec 26th. ...and now

The grandkids are still here until New Year's day, but I hope to get some of the gravel and ballast done tomorrow.

PC: Sorry about Maggie...we've had to say goodbye to a number of long-term pets over the years, and it's never easy.

If I don't get in tomorrow, have a very Happy New Year everyone!

Larry and I will have coffee with pecan pie.  That will bring Philip in.

We have been spending most of our time off on the layout.

I have been planting trees around the tunnel portal that comes down from the log landing.

Larry is working on the trestle to the sawmill.  Nothing is fixed.  Friction and gravity are holding the bents in place for the picture.

Congratulations to LocoIndy!

Fergie, Thanks I appreciate your help.  JR offered some too.  The last train show I went to they were selling them for $1 each but they too were missing the hand rails and ladders.  I haven't landed in the ER yet.  My first attempt at sweating pipe left a few burns.

I got my son's computer up and running today.  I needed a new CD Key for my old WinXP Pro disk.  Microsoft had to get an interpreter on the line for me because poor Mishka and I were having some communications issues.

I found that DVD set is good, but they replay some of the clips from disk 1 and 2 in disk 4, the segment on the Iron range was the best so far I never actually saw how the ore loaders worked until now.

The holidays have slowed my MRR progress, but William and I plan to hit the layout full force after I get home from work tomorrow.

Good evening all,

Finally some time to stop in Chloe may I have some sautaied (sp) mushrooms with sharp chedder cheese and a glass of water.

Glad to hear everyone had a good Christmas hope every one has a safe and happy New Year. To all those in need hope your feeling better soon.

PC sorry to hear of your loss. To lose a pet can be really hard.

Mika came out to visit with Dad, her adoption was finalized Dec 26 at least it was before her second birthday. we are all pretty pleased.

Well Christmas is finally done and I can start working on completing a new room for my layout. I will have about a room that is 10 X12 and I thought I would follow the "Hog" idea for a layout. I would like to blend the PRR and the Lehigh Valley somehow doing some research on that. Have some nice Pennsy Locos and Passenger cars and some nice Lehigh Valley locos so we will see what I can come up with.

Grey fox I hope you are wrong about the extent of snow we are to get my daugher is flying into Boston tomorrow from Houston so I hope she can land all right. Weather person says we are only supposed to get 6" but Tues we are to get nailed. Did I ever say that I hate winter? Oh well. TIme to go snuggle with Mika and look at RailPictures. com till she falls asleep

Night all Have a safe and Happy New Years

Good evening gang.......we decided to take the Christmas lights in from outside, we have two more storms coming at us. A Nor'easter starting in about 2 hours, another 8 inches or more, then another storm is brewing for New year's day, another coastal low forming from an Alberta Clipper.

We will break the alltime record for snowiest December tonight. Only 1" to go and we will easily surpass that mark.

The double track around the Christmas tree worked out very nice this year, the outer oval was large enough so that the passenger cars took the radius very nicely and didn't hang over on the curves. SD40 pulled those Amtrak cars, and the "Wolves in the Woods" passenger cars pulled by a Bachmann ON3 behaved very well this year, no jammed gears like last year.

FERGIE: You ain't see nuttin yet young man......keep that shovel handy laddie.

Got to go get more firewood before the snow starts....ohh oh, the deer are at the evergreen bushes outside the front door again.....grrrrrrrrrr.

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Afternoon Gang: Not much doing here. Sara, the oldest grand daughter, helped me putout hay this morning. She is a good one. I told her that next year at this time she'd be able to do it by herself. She did drive the tractor a bit again but didn't want to take it over the berm so I did the driving for the feeding. She'll be able to get plenty of practice this summer when they move back here.

JimCG: The prices of homes down here all depends on locatiion and the size. The one we looked at yesterday was 3,000 sq.ft. on 4.1 acres. It is over priced somewhat but that may come down in time. The thing is that homes arn't moving fast and I think that the owner is in a position that she needs to sell. We'll see.

I think that I'll go down to the basement and see about doing something in the MRRing field.

***True! I would imagine with the ground saturated these past couple rains should be adding something to the aquifer. Odd thing is all this rain hasn't been raising the water in folks big ponds yet, ours included. Not complaining, as the creek that waters our pastured horses continue to flow. Surely one day the ponds will return!?!

Morning All!

So what does this fine day bring for you all?

For me it brings a day of rest!  It brings the possibility of some long overdue layout time!  It also brings peace.....the kind that allows one to truly rest.

It also brings weather a lot like yesterdays.....at least to start out.  Highs today will be a degree or 2 warmer than yesterday in spite of the snow shower chances.  Snow showers are falling with the heaviest pockets to the west of the metro area.  Some isolated areas could see some accumulation if this persists long enough.  Guess I'll just sit here and watch out the window to see what happens......or maybe I'll just close the blinds and work on the layout!  Who cares about the weather, huh?

So, I guess that brings me back to where I started.......what does this fine day bring for you all?

Morning, Diners. Diners? Confused [%-)] Oh, guess Bill has left and the others aren't in just yet. Well, I'll have a coffee, glass of Ed's OJ, and some waffles, please.

Hey, Diners, I have more waffles than I want/need to eat. Anyone want to help me polish some of these off?

Looks like my post was so exciting last night that it about put PC and Mitch to sleep last night. Zzz [zzz] Did the twins forget and just make decaf last night, I wonder? Wink [;)]

Looks like another sort of cold day today. Currently 31 F (almost 0 C) with slight wind (3 mph, out of the ENE) and 85 percent humidity. Supposed to reach the mid-to-upper 40's (F) today, but will be chilling down over next 2-3 days, and by then it will be in the teens at night. I know, our Canadian Diners probably are chuckling about my weather description...Wink [;)]

Actually, PC, I don't expect to be sleeping on the floor anytime soon. Evil [}:)]Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] My bed is quite usable; Linda is just a bit overprotective/helpful. Kind of sweet, but it would likely drive me up the wall over any length of time (and maybe others as well). Best taken in small doses, if any of you know what I mean... Besides, I've already had one mother, and I've not been interviewing for any replacements since Mom's death (in the 1970's).

Better get myself going for now. See everyone later!

Good morning,

As far as remodeling, From February to December this year I remodeled my Aunt's house here in town to help out the family.  We started with digging a moat around the house and replacing all the footer drains and storm drains for the downspouts, painted everything, fixed all the cracks in the walls, replaced the cement floor in the garage, and I could take up 3 pages with the 700 hours of work I put in her house (hence my little hiatus from lurking in the diner this summer) anyways the house was appraised at $80,000 when I started, now it is appraised at $164,500.00. Not too bad considering her kids threw in $27,000 in materials and the rest was sweat equity by yours truly.

Dorothy (AKA Dee-Dee) is really supportive of my MRR hobby.  She is typically disappointed if I don't bring home something from the train shows.  She understands the nature of my real job and that diversion is necessary to keep my sanity Banged Head [banghead].  She bought me a 5 DVD set "Railway Journeys - The Vanishing Age of Steam" for Christmas, good detail shots if you're modeling steam.

Well the last snow storm only dropped 3" - 6" of snow and it melted within 3 days, so you can't call that real snow.

Hi Chloe.....yeah, can't sleep.......how 'bout a nice cup of hot tea?  Thanks!  Yeah, I'll get the tab.....Jim's about to be sleepin' on the floor!

Well, I haven't been in the layout room for a while.....been busy, ya know?  Think I just might have to make it in there tomorrow, or I guess thats today now, and clean the place up so I can mess it up again.  You guys go through cycles like that too?  I mean, I make the place all nice, then I start a project and when I turn around, the place is trashed again!  So I clean it up, and notice a project that needs done again!  It's a vicious cycle!

I'll tell ya, that backdrop is going to drive me nuts.....but I think I have a couple of ideas for it now that I've had time to think about it.

Mmmmm, tea is good!

Thinkin' I'll just sip my tea in this corner booth and drift off to sleeeeeeeeee................

Evening folks! Just coffee (yeah I know-"as usual" but Ryan's roast beef looks as tempting as the roast beef we had a few nights ago. Dawn picked it up from a store just south of Akron she used to work at years ago, & everything they sell is the best I've ever tasted. (as much as I'd like to name it, I can't as I feel it'd violate forum policy on advertising!)

Been a quiet day-did the usual necessity shopping & some work at the workbench, but feeling a bit tired & run down. (yeah I know, I am up late, but someone has to keep Chloe & Zoe occupied during these late hours!) I'll be heading for bed right after this.

Lee-yes it has been good here weatherwise, but don't jinx us! Remember last January was pretty mild too, & then the bottom fell out in February, & again in April! Our railfanning bud from England came over in April, & got delayed in watching his beloved Cleveland Indians play, as they got snowed out & had to move to Milwaukee for a few games! (oh yeah, I'll try to get those parts pics for you tomorrow-was going to do that today but forgot Oops [oops]

Jim-I can relate-I've been in need of a new mattress for the longest time! It's almost embarrassing the condition it's in. My Mom's been telling me, "you need a new mattress-I'm going to buy you one." We'll see if I get one before she does!

Well, both Chloe & Zoe are trying to shoo me out of here saying I look tired. They rule things here, so I guess I better give in to their demands!

Nite All!

Good evening, Janie - first, Diners, my apologies since I'll probably miss something important. I wanted to get in before I had a dozen pages to catch up on.

Folks, I'm sorry about leaving the Diner on track 2 because I was gone today. I'll try to drop in more often so we can make sure we don't coast back to track 2 again. Oops [oops]

Reason I was gone is I have my friend Linda staying with me through about New Year's Day. (No, it's not a romantic thing for me, though a certain female may wish otherwise) Those of you who've been around the Diner and the Coffee Shop may recall about a year plus ago, I went to lend moral support for her at the wedding of one of her twin daughter's wedding. She was suitably impressed at the floor space and all that I had cleared away. Ed, would you like to borrow the bulldozer I rented for a few days?Wink [;)] I think there's a few left on the rental, so it's paid for anyway... Oh, by the way, that venison sounds good. (My friend Mark makes a pretty good venison chili)

We went and saw National Treasure, Part 2 this afternoon. Pretty good, and as Linda pointed out - at the end of this one, they left hints and clues about another sequel.

Also got notice that the covered hopper I bought from Amazon.com arrived at the post office today. So Monday, I'll go pick it up and see how good it is. Smile [:)]

Ryan, that roast beef looks good - got a slice left that's more to the medium side, please? Yeah, even warmed up is good for me. Thanks! Dinner [dinner]

Lee, my condolences on your letting the cat out of the bag to your girlfriend. At least, this should get you some brownie points you can trade later for a LHS trip and/or some MRR'ing stuff. Yeah!! [yeah] Hope you and your son get the rest of the benchwork done in the garage.Thumbs Up [tup]

Jeff, that loco looks like an excellent one. So, how did a Canadian steamer get all the way down to the KCS in Louisiana, anyway? Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]Whistling [:-^]

Paul, are home prices that high down your way? Sheesh! Angel [angel]Angel [angel] that the seller gets more common sense and brings that price down (or that your kids find a better one a a better price). Good to hear that your granddaughter's continuing to improve. As others have said, they take better care of premies nowadays, and wind up being nice, healthy and sturdy kids. Thumbs Up [tup]

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] NH I-5! Have you been in the Diner before? Have a cup and fill us in on what kind of MRR'ing/layout you have (or have planned). HO? N? or other scale? Time & setting?

Almost forgot - (I'd told Linda about my mattress being in need of replacement and...) Linda said she'd been saving up, and was going to buy me a new mattress and box springs, and I asked her if it would be okay if I took the money she was going to pay for that, and fix my laptop (she said that would be okay). So I may have the laptop working again (YAY!!) before too much longer.

Time for me to get going. Prayers for all those in need of healing, comfort and peace.

And looks like it's my turn to cover dessert and breakfast (since most of you appear to have turned in for bed already). Janie, keep a tab for me and I'll be back tomorrow to settle up.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Jeff, I always wondered about your weather reports: how could it be so cold that far south.  Then I had that trip to Charleston, SC, when I woke up to 26F weather. Now I understand.

Ohio has been very warm so far especially here on the north coast.  Still no snow to brag about, Eleanor (my snow blower) hasn't been out of the garage yet!  I remember as a kid we would normally have our first snow near Halloween and a white Christmas was almost a guaranteed thing.

Well my son and I went to the family's after Christmas left over party and had a good time, played LRC and chatted with several of the family I don't often see.

Evening Gang: So where is everyone? It's 8:30pm and the diner is on page 2.

I didn't go to see the baby but stayed home and took care of a few chores. She is still doing well but the weight that she put on is water and she will loose that. She is receiving mothers milk so I expect that will help her.

The daughter and grand daughters will be leaving Wednesday. Untill then we will be looking at some more homes.

I guess I'll sign off.

Good Night All

Afternoon.

I forgot to mention- My mom was happy for this- We had a white christmas. First one since 1973 when she left philidelphia.

Jerry: My dad and I have an inside joke about that SNL skit, more cowbell. He wanted me to get the biggest, baddest, friggen cowbell he could find. Mine is 4" tall at the hole, and 7-9" long. It has a real low "Bung" noise to it.

Looks like the Saturday Steak Special is 10 oz. Fele' (Spelling is off, I know) Mignon with Mash Potatoes, gravy, and asparagus.

Better get my three reefers over to Weston Packing... God knows that Ryan, Paul, PC, and Jeff will eat plenty of the stuff!

Also I forgot to mention that my grandma says I can use one of her basement rooms for my trains. The biggest one has a pool table and ping pong table in it, and soon a flat screen tv, so it's taken. The next one is her laundry room, and the last is a spare one with some of my uncle's old stuff there. We get to split the room for our purposes. If it's half and half, I get some great Railroad Estate. I could have 7'x12' or 6'x14, depending on how we slice it. Talk about a nice idea! I can't wait to figure out the measurements for a layout down there. The whole room is 12x14. Time will tell how much space I can get.

See you all later.

Mark

Hoople, why not split the room diagonally? That way you get about 12x14! Just don't take the wall with the door......
