Good evening ........been a while since I dropped into the Diner. Last weekend we were up in New Hampshire ( NO, not for the Primary political scene ) the MBRR sponsored a winter excursion on the Conway Scenic RR. The 1921 0-6-0 ran from the station to Sawyer River, about 30 miles into Crawford Notch in deep snow. There were 4 photo run-by stops on the trip back. I got some really nice shots and will post them here soon.

No MRR action taking place, we are taking advantage of this record breaking heat to remove all the outside decorations now that 3 feet of snow has nearly all melted.  But the end is in sight and now I can get back downstairs to the MRR room.

JIM: We may get snow on Monday, the computer model say a big one, the weathermen don't seem to think so....we shall see.

Prayers for all those in need. I also want to pass on some info, I received a book called "90 minutes in Heaven" from a friend, and I couldn't put this book down, please get it at your library, it is beyond  anything that I ever read...true story too.

Later,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! ***Philip, CONGRATS to the wife on her accomplishment. That is great. Keep it going!

***Colby, hope you get feeling better soon. Nice layout progress there.

***Jeffrey, really neat pics today. She's a beauty and such great ground work, as usual.

THE GOOD: Heifers loaded quite smoothly with the gradual moving of panels, a soft reassuring voice and lots of cookies.

THE BAD: After instructing her to stay on the gravel and go easy on the pedal, she comes flying way over into the mud and ends up totally jack-knifed with the truck facing uphill and the trailer with cows stuck in the mud. No way she could go anywhere. Using my little JD & some fold-out snow tire thingies (have no idea what they're called), I got her straitened out heading uphill. Moved her in 3' increments. Then got behind the trailer and assisted pushing her up the hill. Then had to reconnect the front ropes to finish the job, because she again drove off the gravel. Poor girl was clueless.

More small world: Barbara's sister (the lawyer) back in 2004 had many chats with that Gary Hilton fella while taking her dog to the park. She said he seemed eccentric and was very talkative. Her dog loved him. (perhaps that was before he became a killer)

Made another hay run this evening to celebrate the heifers exodus. All the farm is at peace. :^) -Rob

Evening all,

First thing in the morning work is sending me to the local rail yards to find information on bridges in our area, yahoo!

Colby, the building in the lower right corner of the picture with the red roof; is that a brewery? I might have the same model.  Everything looks good, thanks for sharing the pictures.

RT what type of work will you be looking for?  Would you, could you, work for Uncle Sam?  If so I can steer you in the right direction on that, maybe even keep you in KY.

Jeffery, I'm jealous, I don't have any decapods in my fleet yet and here you are flaunting yours all over the diner, LOL.  Looks good. you wouldn't want to swap a pair of FP's for it would you?

The rain stopped with a minor leak in the basement.  Another project for me to do, find crack and patch it up. The winds tore my bird cage off the chimney, glad it didn't hit anyone or anything when it came down.

Colby: If you get another left-hand turnout you can make that spur double-ended so that a train can just pull straight through instead of having to back in.

Whistling [:-^]

Good Afternoon Ya'all,

Zoe, I met your mother this morning and she said you had come in very late last night. Do you have something to tell us ??Evil [}:)]Censored [censored]

I'll squeeze in again at the counter, can't stay long today.  I'll have an egg salad sandwich with green peppers and a bowl of potatoe soup. Swish with a Dr. Pepper.Dinner [dinner]

I feel like I finaly kicked my cold (I hope), but had a bunch of tests done the last two days. Have to keep an eye on things after that internal bleed I had mid-year in 2007.  But everything looks like I should see 2009 and then some.  So thats good news.

PHILIP:   really glad to hear your wife is working at walking as diligently as she is.  Thats the secret, keep at it, but don't over do it. Also congratulations on your new "Press Photographer" position. That is a nice recognition for you.Yeah!! [yeah]

RT:  I don't like moving and fortunately I haven't had to do much of it.  But, go at it with a positive attitude, keep the spirits high, show enthusiasm and you will be surprised. You will not have to accept anything less than what you deserve and require.   Best Wishes.........

LEE:  Well at least you don't have to shovel it.  But too much rain can spell trouble as well. Hope you can handle what you get.   Maybe you could borrow Rob's rubber boots after he gets those cows loaded. He would probably even wash them off for you.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

ROB:  It is now that you try out those new steel toed rubber boots.. Traction and protection. hope the heifers are cooperative today.Cowboy [C):-)]

JERRY:   Why "matte medium" inside the caboose ?.  I don't get it.  Good find with the new work table, I'm a big proponant of re-cycling.  It's amazing what you can recycle in model railroading.

RYAN:  That great looking loco is an F-9.  Very Classy, would like to see it with all of the cars ready to run.   Do you know how the cars are painted ??

Colby: It's lousey feeling tough. Get lots of rest, drink lots of water (not soda) eat quite a bit of Yoguart and before long you'll be up to speed again.Zzz [zzz]

Jeff:  How much to ride on that "Tourist Train" of yours ?.  It is shaping up great.Wow!! [wow]

ED:  So sorry about all the warm weather, I feel so bad for you.    Yuk, Yuk Yuk...Sad [:(]  Send a little extra OJ. to Colby, he could use some  Liquid Mexican Sunshine..

Well the soup was good and the sandwich was great, better get back to some serious railroading.  Here comes the "Wobbly".

Everyone have a great day.

Afternoon Gang: Just a quick run through.

Colby you take care of yourself. It's no fun being layed up.

RT: I'm sorry to hear that you will have to move again. Too bad about selling off your collection too. At least you don't have anything that you are really attached to.

Rob: Good Luck on loading the cows. We have a curved chute leading to our loading chute that really makes it easy.

Well I really need to get going and get to doing something productive. Mary Ann went to the hospital to see the baby so I'm home alone. Hee Hee

I just had to do the part of my job that I hate the most.  I had to fire a guy.  He was a decent guy, but just not a good fit for our company.

I hate having to do that.

On the other hand, I guess it's best if I hate it, huh?

Wowwww.  Jim's waffles on Jim's tab.  Chloe, I will have an order of those with my coffee before I head to work.

Maybe I will get some layout time tomorrow.  Too many work days in January.

I have climbing tonight so I may not check back in until tomorrow.

Well, I'll be working on my waffles for a bit before I head out. Looks like that storm made it through several of your backyards last night/this morning. Of course, it might turn into more snow for Colby and Dick and our Nova Scotians by the time it gets further east. Shock [:O] Nah...

Blessings on your (probably cooler) day,

Morning!

Scrambled eggs and whole wheat toast for me today!

We broke an all time high temp yesterday at 73° F, normal high for this time of year is in the low 50's so it feels like spring already, the bulbs are going to get confused when it freezes again in the next week or two.

Here is Today's Lunch and Dinner Specials

I heard that the Norfolk Southern F-7's and executive cars will be making a run through North Carolina this month, these are beautifully restored with resemblance to the old Southern tuxedo style, here is a link to a image of the head end of the executive business train: http://www.locophotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=59172

Hey Rob, good luck with the cows, maybe if you put in some nice stinky cow chow for bait! I don't know the first thing about rustling bovine, so don't listen to me! But hey, there is some old stinky cheese in the back cooler; maybe they would like some of that!

Scorpions huh Ed! Hey, they got any recipes for them down SOB! Kind of looks like a crawfish..... Laugh [(-D]

You are welcome Terry!

Good Morning All,

I'll have a regular and a donut please. Model train night at the museum lsast night so we did some maintainence on the Nvisible gauge and picked up around the O gauge and added some weathered cars to the yard on the HO. A good evening all in all. Trying an 8 car passenger consist on the Npossible set up we'll see if it lasts through tonight as the N gets run more than anything.

Monday I get to go to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and pick up some donated G gage stuff for the outdoor trains we're planning. They have an extensive  layout with all scratchbuilt buildings  and it's supposed to be very impressive.  I suppose that also means I should get after the radius former I need to make for the outdoor rails. It's much easier to form curves in 1:1 scale - just spike it down as you please and trim to length.

I hope everyone got through the run of lousy weather ok and didn't have any unplanned home relocations. Lots to do today so I'd better get on with it.   CUL,   J.R.

Hey!  Good Morning!

The rain has finally moved out of Indiana but not for long.  Temperatures will be much cooler today with highs in the mid 40s.  This is still about 10 to 15 degrees above our normal high of 34.  Another weaker storm will approach the region on Thursday.  This will bring a good chance for more rain Thursday afternoon and night.  Right now, it appears rainfall totals should be under .50″ in most areas.  Colder air will return behind the front Thursday night and Friday.  Rain will change to snow showers by Friday morning.  The moisture will be leaving as the colder air returns so any accumulation of snow should be under an inch.  Never a dull moment in Indiana!

In more personal news, the wife walked 100 feet (assisted) yesterday!  She also skipped a couple doses of pain meds!  After the walk she took some, but thats a huge improvement!

Also, I've been honored as the team photographer for my sons basketball team!  They are using my pics for the covers of the weekly game fliers and also the yearbook.  I'm humbled!

Well, gotta go do the work thing today.  How about you?

Good morning all,

We are having a bushel of rain up here!  Can you believe it dropped into the 40's????  I was just getting use to summer and it had to go back to spring-winter on us.

Jim all I saw at the LHS was the built-ups.

I did pick up a sheet of Evergreen sidewalk ($4) and a NJ International signal bridge ($2).

The M.T.Arms hotel is doing well, still working on the final touches.....

Howdy all!

Lets get right to it, gloves off, no mercy- ED-Tsk? TSK? Why, I can't remember the last time I was tisked! Why I oughtta.... well, actually, I thought of that, but what I didn't mention was we slept on some pretty rough feeling furniture Friday night, and mind you I still sleep on a U.S.M.C. foam ground pad when I camp! Sometimes. But anyway, none of us slept worth a darn Fri night, and I only had about three hours of sleep Fri AM after getting off work, so by 0830, even with the good Starbucks cuppa in me, I was running about half speed. And, I really hadn't planned on hitting the show, the Ft Wayne swap meet was so much cheaper, easier to get to, etc, so what I saved by not making Indy, I will blow in Ft Wayne! But yeah, I thought about it.

And I reckon them there skor-pee-ons are would be mighty plenty leathal to this ol' Hoosier farm boy. Just seeing one would probably be enough!

Silverspike- OK, I am going to try to send you those pics via regular e-mail, and I heavily emphasize the word TRY! It will be from philnrunt@yahoo.com, and I'll call it NS locos, or something equally catchy. If I accomplish that, who knows where it might lead to? I told Amyjo today that I think I'm going to try to upload to rrpicturearchives.net instead of photobucket to begin with, then maybe branch out to p-bucket or maybe even here! She had a meeting at the Sheriff's Dept today, or we might have tried to post some pics. So you keepp a lookout, I'll get your mail address from here and go over to yahoo and see if I can figure it all out.

I really need to catch a ride into the 20th century. I might be able to at least see the 21st from there.

   Toodles!

JimRC- Thanks for typing just that much faster, you got to the top before I did! I'll just grab a doubledeluxecheezburgermeister and a monster size order of the O-rings, no, no, not the regular sized ones, those that you can use for a life ring! Yeah, and make it to go, so I can munch on something while I'm cussing computers trying to forward pics to Ryan!

Good Evening, Diners! Chloe, just a nice cup of hot cocoa for me, please. Thanks!

Got some good news Smile [:)] yesterday on my laptop that I sent off for repair estimate. They said the problem was part of the motherboard (where the hard drive controller is), but that they couldn't get a replacement motherboard. Confused [%-)]No, I said good news - 'cause later that same day, I saw a motherboard on eB** at a very good price (with 7 day non-DOA guarantee). I have a take-apart manual and already a year or so ago, have taken my laptop down 90 percent of the way (and the manual covers the rest of the way with pics) to that. So I ordered the motherboard and a replacement keyboard (had some keys that had worked loose), and it totalled only $55 & change with shipping, plus about $89 for the estimate and having the repair place ship my laptop back to me. Yeah!! [yeah]Smile [:)] I'd been planning on up to $200 for the repairs, so I can use what I have left to bump the memory and get a new hard drive for it. (Swapping the hard drive out on my laptop is a 'piece of cake,' actually. - No, PC, I did not say the P-word...Wink [;)]) And I'll still likely have some left over for a trip to the LHS. Yeah!! [yeah][YIPPEE!!]Yeah!! [yeah]

Fergie I guess I missed that site that you gave us. Could you repeat it please. You tore out all the wiring? So you didn't have enough to do.

Oh, oh! Shock [:O] Fergie, does that mean you'll have to get out the [gasp!!]soldering iron again?Black Eye [B)] Might want to have Lisa check that your medical insurance is up to date, and that she knows a quick route to the local emergency room... Oh, I see Ed's warned you about that, too. 'Nuff said...Wink [;)]

Lee, were those Imex buildings you bought kits, or assembled? The pics I saw of the (assembled) diner (on Walthers' site) looked good, but the gas station had the windows blocked over (with signs, etc.). Imex's website did mention that they were coming out with kits, though, so I might be interested in a kit version of some of those.

Our weather here today went from the 60's around lunch or so (and raining), and then dropping into the 40's (F) by the time I headed for home. Had to take a T-shirt rag from the trunk and wipe off the inside of the windshield to see to drive home(!). But the worst of the storm missed us, and about all the front has moved up the Ohio River valley, so watch out, folks - might be the Big Bad Wolf all over again in your area tonight. Hopefully not, though.

Rob, I'd watch my step tomorrow, too - steel toe or no steel toe. Got some food the cows like that you could entice them onto the trailer with?

Tsk, tsk, in such a hurry.  I'd have taken a nap and waited for the show to open.  Big Smile [:D]

Yeah, Ed, but IN Phil doesn't have as much practice at that Zzz [zzz] as you might. Maybe he could practice and w**k his way up to a decent length nap?Laugh [(-D]

RT, sorry to hear about your move again, but you're right - you have to be able to cover the rent and electric (and MRR) bills. Will be keeping your sales and prep for the move in my prayers in the meantime. If I were in O scale, I'd see about buying some of your stuff. Do you have an HO scale stuff?

Oops [oops] - looks like Jerry gets a break from the dishes for a while. Okay, Chloe, start my tab, and I'll settle up when I swing by in the morning...

Prayers for a safe night for our KY-IN-OH folks, and for safety tomorrow for Rob & wife (yeah, and the cattle, too), and all those in need of better health and peace. See everyone in the morning.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Well guys looks like the misses and i may be making a trip back to good ole VA. as good ole TN can't seem to let us make a living enough to suport our selves. I basicly took a 33% pay cut when i moved here (yes i lost my job there due to downsizing) but I could of stayed where I was probally and still made out at least as good if not a little better than I'am here acually I had better chances there than I do here so thats what were looking into but this move everything goes for sale and we start all over again as can't move all this stuff again to much on wife and me. (yes it means all my trains this time as i told her theres none that really have any bond with me that I can't replace down the road. )

Its going to take a couple of months to do this but it has to be done.

I will slide into this corner booth.  Coffee sounds good with the blue plate special.

Ryan, Are you cooking again? And is it still on Jerry's tab?  You know that I will be at the front of the trough.

Rob & Paul,  Sign - Ditto [#ditto] on the steel toed boots.  I ended up with a broken toe when one of my horses decided to step on my boot to avoid getting his feet wet in a mud puddle.  I am a believer.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Just a tad on the warm side today down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  But it's cooling off now and I think I'll be able to avoid turning on the a/c for another night, even if it means sleeping on top of the sheets.  Guess winter is over here.  Actually, I expect that we should get another front or two between now and the end of February.

‘Mo" was marginal today.  I did the "OL's" (Obligatory Loops), finished off an old Trains Magazine that I had started and not finished, and started a back issue of MR.  I'm almost ashamed to say how far behind I am in even model railroading reading.  Of course I had an excuse, as usual.  Wink [;)]  We had to do the grocery shopping in the morning, take Fran to the dentist in the afternoon, and fit in a nap somewhere along the line.  Okay, so it wasn't a very good excuse.  Laugh [(-D]

Amyjo shooting train pix, and even when she's not with you?!?  Definitely a good sign.  You chose well.

Thanks for the comments on the RailImages album.  We get a number of those scorpions in the house each year, maybe 15-20, especially during the hot season.  So far no stings.  Fortunately they're not lethal.

Fergie:  Sure enough I ripped out the wiring! So before I put all the gear back under the table I have some wire to replace and reconnect.
careful with the soldering....... Oh, wait, you already know that, right?  Shock [:O]

Ryan - congrats on the Tigers' win.  They played very well.

RT:  Hi guys yes its me hiding in the corner man has it gotten rough over in the coffee shop across town where it has the 3 rail trains think I'll come and sit here in the corner and see if this one is better I believe it is so might start hanging in here more often again like I use to.
That's a shame when a fun thread gets derailed.  All the folks who patronize the Diner (Coffee Shop) thread here deserve to be commended, again, for always maintaining it as a friendly place.

Paul - you do know that they make cowboy boots with steel toes, don't you?  I've also seen OSHA approved hard hats in the shape of cowboy hats!

That's about it for tonight.

Hasta mañana,

Ed
