Hey fellas, it's probably been a year and a half or so since I was in, so I don't know if anyone remembers me or not. Seems we've moved up in the world, a full service diner now huh? Looks like most of the same ol' bunch, with some welcome additions of course. It'll take me a little while to get back into the groove of things again and get caught up on what's going on, but I figured I'd go ahead and 'splain to y'all what I've been up to. I'm majoring in Electrical Engineering Technology at Oklahoma State, so that keeps me rather busy, but I've learned a lot more about how DCC and the various electronics in modelling work now and I'm kind of looking forward to completing a little backlog of work on the layout over Christmas break.
Well, that's about all I've got for now, hopefully make it back in soon!
Greg

Good Morning, Diners - Zoe, how about a cup of coffee and some of Ed's OJ, please? Thank you, ma'am.
back Greg (trainwreck100)! I recognized your ID, though I was fuzzy on details 'till you mentioned. Guess you'll be our head DCC tech now, huh? Hope your classes are going well (and that you get lots done on the layout over your Christmas break, or whatever they're calling it in colleges now...). Drop by when you get the chance, and have a drink on me to welcome you back. Zoe, put his on my tab (and just Greg's, thanks!).
Got some kind of upper respiratory thing again... Going to call the Dr. this morning and see if he'll write me another round of antibiotic. Mostly dry cough, drippy nose (and post-nasal, etc.) but no fever to speak of at all. Yuck! Don't sit too close to me today, just in case.
We're back to cold and damp today, after a 60 degree (F) day yesterday. Had some more rain come through after supper last night, but not raining at the moment, thank Heaven. I'd love to move to Arizona right now. Okay, I'll quit whining for now.
Not much new on the layout, other than I got probably 50 more freight cars entered into my inventory database. Once I get the manufacturer's numbers in, I'll start locating photos of the cars to add to each record. I'm also supposed to help a local contemporary Christian radio station (manning the phones) for the pre-calling for their fundraiser (listener-supported). They're new this year (think they started broadcasting in July or August).
Well, Zoe, how about another glass of that OJ, please? Thanks!
Blessings and clearer weather for those needing drying out,

77 degrees here with normal winter temps returning by the weekend. Will work outside today.
Wife finally went back for her re-test (Flight Nurse), so cross your fingers. She is still on antibiotics and not 100% yet, but didn't dare cancel the retest a third time or she figured they would be done with her. My fingers & toes are crossed she aces it today.
Hope everyone is doing well. Rob
Afternoon Gang:
Welcome back Greg. I've been woundering where you were and what you have been up to. I figured that college had been taking up you spare time.
It's been raining all day so far. It comes in sperts and sometimes really hard. It's a cold but not enough to freeze. We missed that bullet.
Garry I got the E-mail and made a copy. I'll go over and see what my friend wants to do.
Well I have to go and feed the cattle. I'll see you all later.
Hello all,
Took off from work early just to go back at 6 tonight. Yes another pot-luck for the holidays for those the Coast Guard Auxiliary (our volunteer organization) Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, and all that good stuff.
My GF decided to join the group under the name Dee-Dee, so don't be alarmed if you see her hanging out. She has shown an interest in trains.
I updated my WWW link at the bottom with pictures of the Dairy and the Ice House.
The troops at work voted to have me cook 2 more deep fried turkeys for everyone around new years; I guess it pays NOT to miss any morale meetings!
It stopped raining here, for a while I thought I would need to build a large boat and heard animals into it.
Greg, back!

Evening Gang:
Lee I noticed that DEE DEE had dropped in.
Hi DEE DEE, and Welcome.
Not much happening here. I did get to the basement and did some work on the Clark Garden layout plan. I finally got the floor plan done. It's not perfect I couldn't get a couple of deminsions to come out right. I think that it's close enough though. I layed out the curve in the front middle and then did the curve at the right side. That's where I stopped for lunch. The feeding went well. I got the tractor out and put out 2 bales of hay tied with the sisal twine. I didn't take off the twine since it won't hurt the cows. Since the rain had stopped I went ahead and got 2 bales from the upper lot and put it out. These were wrapped with poly net so I had to take it off. So now there happy. We met with a friend of ours and gave him a list of our drugs. He's going to run these in his puter and get us a few plan Ds that we can look at. I'll be glade when all this is done. I don't know how some older folks make out with this med insurance and all.
Well I guess I'll head out and see what is going on else where.
Good Night All
I'll have the STEAK and BEER....
This is yours truly at the PSU-OSU tailgate last October at Penn State...
Rain's in the forecast for this weekend! Here's hoping!!!

DAVE V IS GRILLING STEAKS!!!
Dave, I prefer rare!
I'll drive to the diner as fast as I can! I hope there are no radar traps! Pedal to the metal!
Paul, How big is this garden layout you are working on?
Good Evening All,
Just wandering through whilst I wait for the paint to dry. Doing more on the DPM buildings. Any of you who think model railroad people have no sense of humor should check out the toast thread out in the big room before Bergie zaps it - right Dave (and several more of us)?
For those who asked, the big pile of rocks I showed from Yosemite is at the base of the lower falls (which this time of year is a mere trickle).
The mortar on the bricks is any one or more of several techniques which I vary for variety. I've used successfully latex spackle, regular drywall mud, chalk with dull coat, washes of white paint mixed with ink, and my favorite - modellers' mortar and scenery base which i rescued from the circular file and revived. I don't know if it's made any more but it's like thick gritty plaster and easily stainable different shades with water based paint. All of them I sop up while wet or reapply until I like the results.
Time to get back to it - I'll try to check in later. J.R.
Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Another beautiful, if very warm (92º), day down here in Paradise. We're back from our quick trip to the (very) big city. No train activity, unless you count riding on the subway there. But we did get the things we went for taken care of. Now we can get back to finishing unpacking from the Texas trip. I think we're here for a few weeks before we have any other travel coming up. At least I hope so.
With the stuff I need to take care of between now and the end of the year, 2007 isn't looking to be the year I break out of my modeling funk and get back to the layout. I'm considering a New Year's resolution approach to getting myself out of the proverbial armchair, and back to model railroading. We'll see.
Later,
Ed
refill please.
***Paul, bet you don't mind putting out the hay, just to get on the tractor. Got on ours for a mental break today, digging out the deep end of where there would normally be a pond around Duck Island. May as well take some advantage of this drought.
***Dave, are those fries you're cooking in the skillet? If so, load me up please.
Wife thinks her re-test went real well. Should know something next week. Too bad she has been up since 7:00am and is working her 12 hour shift in ATL tonight. Yikes!
Farrier came yesterday and worked on a few of our horses. Tinytoons hoof growth continues to improve with the special shoes I make her. Need to clean up her last pair to re-attach them tomorrow. I like to give her hooves an extra day to dry out real good.
Been trying to figure out where in the basement I could start my train layout, but it isn't an ideal place, mainly from so much dust. The only other place would be in my studio, but it has large windows which I will not cover (for obvious reasons).
Rob
Rob,
Best of luck to the missus on the test. With your choices, the upstairs is probably going to be limited to a shelf or around the room - difficult with the windows already there. My layout is in the old coal bin area of the basement next to the new furnace and water heater. I put up ceiling tile and made a floor over the old uneven bin and then paneled in the area I was granted to keep out as much dust as possible. So far it's worked very well with the track staying clean with minimum cleaning. I acquired the rest of the basement through eminent domain (or was that manifest destiny?) and now have my model bench, storage, computer, and drum set in it. Oh yeah and the CFO's treadmill and the weight set. Crowded but cozy and the train room is safe as it is walled off. Patience and cooperation worked just fine in this case. J.R.
Don't know how the weather guesser's are doing anywhere else, but like pcarrell said, they are missing it here on a daily basis. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on this one, the line between freezing rain and regular cold as ice rain is pretty hard to get right. We've been under watches since Mon, still no ice here. Tonight will be another chance for them to hit it, we are under and Advisory for ice again.
Lee- I had planned to be the last one to wish you a happy B Day last night, but we had a robbery and stabbing as I was visiting the forum, had to go rather quickly. So let me be the VERY LAST person to wish you a happy B Day! I bring up this page and do a little reading, then a little typing, then a little police radio work. Seems to do ok, but sometimes I need to sign off before I get stuff done. Ah well, whachagonnadoo?
eeyore- Glad to see you name your vehicles too. I had to explain more than once to a passenger that "No, no, the person I am introducing you to isn't named such and such, thats his Jeep!" My Scout II was Muskrat, that was also was my CB handle way back when. Ahhhhh, the good ol' days. And if you do write a book about your cars, save a chapter for me and I'll throw in some 4-Wheelin' tales! Nothin' any funnier than 16 4WD's on a trip and 15 of them breaking! And the 16th one loosing it's windshield on the way home! Again, good times.
Trainwreck- Seems I remember that moniker from a ways back, glad to see you back at your regular table!
Paul B- Sounds like you need to drag your doctor to your farm, then do your daily chores, and charge HIM for the stress test.
Our room addition is creeping along, with every nail driven- well, actually screw screwed, I get just that much closer to having the other room available for a layout! Can't hardly wait!
Guys, and gals- gearjammer and DeeDee come to mind right off, take good care and stay as warm as you can.
Evening folks!
Pepsi & one of Dave's steaks! (medium rare) Dave, pay no mind to my OSU shirt-I'm also a fan of PATERNO (one of the last legendary coaches to still be doing so)
Not too bad of a day (except for getting the gas bill) We got the overnite "foster" pup taken care of with our local animal control-who assured Dawn that since she was young & healthy, she would be kept until adopted at our local humane society (they don't euthanize).
Been working on my ATW ex SM boxcar today mostly-starting to "try" to make convincing rust on the roof. Also been browsing online for a suitable cut bar bracket. Haven't found what I wanted yet, & hope I don't have to fabricate them myself!
Lee, good to see your better half Dee Dee here-nothing like having a supportive lady in the hobby (I have one too! )
JR-if you're at Yosemite again & perchance notice a park service fire engine that looks a lot like the one from the old TV show Emergency, that's because it is! Still in service there, & once it's retired (possibly 2011) it will be put in a museum with the original Squad 51. From what I understand they keep it parked outside it's station bay as much as possible since it gets a lot of visitors & photographs from folks who know it's history. (just a bit of trivia)
Rob, keeping fingers crossed for your wife's test results. She's really been carrying a load lately! Let's hope for the best! Seems you're in the same boat with basement/layout as I am. Tentative plans laid out, & even space marked off on the floor w/masking tape-but still thinking some re-configuring, mainly towards the train workbench, & around the washer & dryer. ("shop" & staging tracks)
Garry-Love that dog! (I got that same pic in a forwarded email some time back-looks like the back of my king cab Dakota if I get another report of one of the handful of locomotives still lettered for Chessie System is headed through Sterling!)
Phil-cool names! I named my '73 Duster (1st car) Christine because she had a habit of overcoming problems on her own, until the frame went. (typical of them-but geez was she fast! V8-& after she got scrapped my bud took the motor & put in his Dodge Stepside & drag raced it in Youngstown where we went-& actually won a few races!) I'll be sure to add a few chapters for you also we also had some 4 wheeling adventures ourselves, but would rather the statute of limitations ran out before I published it!
"Finishes up"-AWESOME steak Dave! On my way home to pass out with a full stomach-stay warm & safe folks-nite!
Thanks for the re-welcoming guys, it feels good to be back.
I need a bite to eat, all I've had this evening is cookies....Mind fixing me something up?
Well, I guess I'm heading back home for break tomorrow morning, my last final was at noon on monday of this week, and I've just kind of been hanging out waiting for tonight to come, hall government had an event every night this week, and of course I got in the group to plan tonight's (that's what happens when you follow the girls). We decorated cookies and watched Home Alone (it was the only thing we could come up with that was Christmas related but doesn't actually mention Christmas...Dang political correctness).
I got a new set of passenger cars at the OKC train show just before I came back up here last time, so I'm kind of looking forward to getting some track time on them...the Rocket has been needing something more appropriate to drag around.
Well guys, I hate to eat and run, but I'd better get to bed if I plan on getting home in good time tomorrow, so I guess I'd better make like a banana and split.
jeffrey-wimberly wrote: Cox 47 wrote:Jeff....Hows your computer problem coming? My main problem is that some of the components on my main board won't recognize Windows XP. Went and looked at a new board yesterday. It's made by MSI and meets all my criteria. Those are that it has dual core processor support, it has dual IDE ports and that it's not a cheap two slot wonder. It compares favorably with the board that I currently have and it's upgradable all the way to Windows Vista (I can't imagine why I would even want that bundle of problems) if need be. The board is $312 with the processor (AMD 6000+X2 {dual core}) included. I'll have to buy another display adapter, my current one is an AGP card. No one uses AGP anymore. I have my eye on a PCI Express card for $49. Also have to get new memory. My 2700 DDR2 sticks won't work on the new board. A one gig stick of the new memory is about $30.
wow Jeff with all that $$$ your pouring into comp parts you might be better off buying a new one.
Good Morning, Zoe, I'll have some TOAST with apple butter, couple of scrambled eggs, glass of OJ and milk, and a cup of coffee, please. Thanks, Bill T.!
Dave V., loved that Toast topic - sound very much like some talk at our MRR club. Is there a directory online of MT clubs? I'm partial to the Zephyr style of toaster, myself....
Reached my doctor's office (well, left a message - you know how likely it is to actually speak with even your doctor's nurse nowadays ('nuther rant there...)) and they called in a prescription to my pharmacy. Nasonex - go figure. I always associated it with allergy problems, but guess it's good for reducing inflamation in the sinuses, too. Started it last night. Had a fever (103) last night and was wiped, so I went to bed early. Slept pretty well, except for one short interruption (helping a co-worker with some forms for her on-call), but that was fairly early (10:30-ish). Slept pretty well through the night after that.
Lots o'Kleenexes on order today - I'll sit at the back table so as not to 'share' this with any other Diners.
Got word that my 'order is here' from our LHS/MRR club member by email yesterday. From the amount he told me, I'm thinking it's the Grandt Line doors and windows I ordered for the church I'm scratchbuilding. Haven't heard back yet from my email asking him.
I'd love to take off now for the rest of the week to rest and get rid of this thingee/cold/whatever. But I'm at w**k today. Have some things to do over the weekend, so I would like to be over this by then, at least. Say a few for the medication to kick it out.
Paul, when I get eligible for Medicare in a couple/few years, I'll need to do some checking on that part D.
Well, back to the grindstone - have paperw**k that I didn't get done from yesterday to do. Take care of yourselves and I hope the weatherguessers up there toward Indiana & Ohio continue to miss it on any ice predictions for you.
Blessings,
G'morning...
Toast, please.
Jim ....... sorry you hab a code.....you may tink it funny but it snot.
Cheers everybody!
Morning all!
Well, the freezing rain / sleet thing never happened, and I'm OK with that! Been praying for those poor folks out west though. Thats a tough one! We are looing like we're going to see some decent (for around here anyways) snowfall Saturday though. They're talking 4-6 inches at least. Right now it's not bad though. It's almost 40 degrees now, but it's been raining all night, so everything's good and wet.
Gotta get more schoolwork done today. I have my finals for one class and the first weeks homework for another. Fun, fun, fun!
Oh hey! I got invited to visit a Mennonite church this weekend. Think I might go just to see what it's like. I met the pastor there by chance and we got to talking theology and he gave me the invite. I asked him a bit about what to expect and he said basically it's kinda like "Amish Lite" jokingly. I mean, they drive cars and have electricity and all, but they live a very simple life. I think it might be a good experience to go and see that though.
Rob, sounds like the wifes test went good. I'm happy for you both!
Alright, well, I'm off! Later!
