FoulRift, Glad to hear they made it, you sound pleased or surprised, lol.
Maybe you could build a Victoria Station for your layout. The Victoria Station in Toledo was a square central building but the dining rooms were typically 2 box cars, and one passenger car. (I can't find pictures) So you have a square clapboard building with a wooden walkway up to the front door (the building was elevated so the main floor was level with the RR car floors). The banquette room was a passenger car on the back of the building then the other 2 dining rooms were the box cars on the right and left of the building. They laid enough track so the RR cars could sit on their wheels this was a fancy place; live lobsters, every large steak you could imagine even free birthday cakes. In the late 70's dinner would typically cost $14 - $17/person.
Terry, shoot me an email with your normal address and I'll send you some RR charts. I never got your chart, I'm guessing it was over 12MB and my server kicked it back.

Afternoon gang: I just got finished with the pad for the storage container. It just needs a bit of compacting and the OK from the boss. I'd like to get in some MRRing today but there is so much to get done. I still have a bit of dirt to move over at the creek and Terry might be over at his place working on the railroad. I made out a list of things I need ( well want ) from Walthers. They have the DL 109s in Milw Rd on sale in the Feb sale cataloge. I will call them tomorrow and if they have 2 I'll order them plus a couple of C&NW pass cars for the C&NW Erie builts to pull around. Hmmmm I should get to the basement and use some Upsedasium on the layout. I need to get the layout raised before I can do any more to it like senary and wired for DCC.
Well if I'm going to get anything done I'd better get going.
See you all later.
A few guys have asked for info on the Steaming Tender ( former Palmer RR station), so here is their web page address, there is also a phot gallery where you can see some very nice photos of the inside and outside.

Hoople.......... It's good to see you're haing fun there. you mentioned previously you were considering changing your bachmann 4-8-2 into a specific SP locomotve. that will be a really fun project. I suppose you've looked on the internet for pictures. maybe, the SP historical club has more.
If they have 1 picture of 4388, they have more than the net. All I found were facts, which help also.

If you want to read my adventure in the thread on model railroad accidents ... go ahead and read it.... Or if you'd like to see some pix of my Denver Zephyr it's in WPF.
It's good to see Bob K and David P stopped by for a visit again. Hope to see them in the diner more often in the future.
Jeff ............good luck then with freight service for the PA....... the prototypes did that too. They were passenger engines, but they could pull a freight train well.
Food was good ........... Bye.

Morning all.
Cleaned up the layout a bit yesterday, got to run some trains. My challenger pulling my 15 nice freight cars, (those junky tycos and lls don't count) and my E9 pulling my 2 walthers passenger cars. I ordered them some buddies, which should show up some time in the next 9-13 days. (Ordered em' on friday.)
Well, Gotta roll.

Good morning everyone from snowy New England, yesit is snowing , 25F, a light powdery snow. It sure looks like we picked the right day to go to the Train Show yesterday.
The Train Show was very crowded, they added a 4th building this year, and every building was packed. If any says this hobby is slowing or dying, it is not true at this show!! 4 acres (176,000 + sq feet of floor space ).
I met J.R. at the Danbury Museum display, it is so nice to actually meet some of the Diner members, he is handsome dude and doesn't look a day over 50.
I only got to take 3 photos, the place was so packed, and my camera is rather large being a Nikon D70. Trying to carry the shopping bag with coat stuffed in it, and camera bag is rather tough. The web site usually has nice photos of all the layouts at the show "before" things get crowded.
MRR stuff??? I don't know where to beging guys....you name it, it was there. Every scale was well represented, plus brass, and live , real steam ( if you $10,000 to buy that set up for your yard ). Many tables had all sorts of locomotives and cars that you could pick up at rediculous prices, 4 assorted cars for $10, locomotives for $25 ( running and looking OK ), every DVD, RR Book, lights , furniture, old time photos, RR items like switch locks, signal lights, lanterns, you name it they had it. Atlas, Athearn, Branchline, CMT, Bachmann, Walthers, etc, etc, had all their items at 20% or more off , as well as many private vendors. I saw two vendors that items that really interested me, one was from Vermont, they made rock molds that were the best that I had ever seen!! Another vendor had transfer labels that you use with a PC and printer, they were absolutely terrific, they were from NJ, $15 for that complete kit with CD.
Then, I saw a gate that you can install in your layout that runs on two lead screws, on on either end of your gate, and one puch of the button and the gate rises 6 feet or so to allow you to walk under. For some of us we won't even have to duck. It was made by that company that makes modular tables ( name escapes me, Senior moment ) My son liked that idea as he is 6'-1".
So what did I buy? Sorry to say only a book that I have been waiting for, a map of all the New England railroads, the latest updated as of December 07, a one branchline box car, A B&A ( Boston & Albany hat with the logo on front, and my son bought me a nice maroon lined jacket, B&M with loco on back and on front pocket area. Why so little with so many nice deals? The short answer is...the stock market. The last few months have raised h** with the retirement investments, so being on fixed income, one needs to be frugal at times. Now if that check had arrived that the FED is going to give us in May......things would have been different. Besides, I need to get my butt in gear and lay tracks on the layout, and build some of the 20+ items that I have still in kit form.
Thank you once again for all the BD cakes and wishes, and JIM, the BD was SATURDAY, the 26th.

Morning all! And a beautiful morning it is!
The wife is quickly ditching the wheelchair in favor of the much more manuverable crutches. Last night I took her to church and out to eat and the wheelchair never left the back of the van! The doc told her Friday that she can start driving again in 10 days (consider that fair warning you all!). She's excited!
Well, my sons legs were stiff as a board and real sore after friday nights game, but he's getting back to normal now. He's still on a high from it though. I know he wouldn't trade the other night for anything!
Oh well, I'm off to go teach my Bible study class. Later!

Good morning folks, haven't poked in here since the "Dodge Tabogan" thing. Glad to hear things are doing better for most.
Johnboy, I've been up early today, waiting my ride to carpool out to the Springfield show. It is a fantastic show, must be the largest in the east. I know there's some that wish they could go and will be waiting anxiously to hear and see pics about it.
Ryan, They do have some great clinics and demos at the show. You really need two days and that won't be enough time to really cover all the buildings and hit some of the clinics.
Phillip, Great to hear that wifey is doing so much better these days, I can see that you'd be excited having your son out on the court and doing so well.
Jerry, What B&O cabbose are you working on, I have been dogging it on the 3 Pacific Mountain Scale Shops resin I-5 and 2, I-12s.
And happy birthday Dick, can't wait to stop by at The Steaming Tender after the show today.
Oh, my ride to the show is here, Get back to you later.

Good Morning Gang;
I bet most of you aren't up yet. Well for some reason I couldn't sleep, maybe it is because I slept in so long yesterday.
My goodness Chloe, you start early. Seeing that there is only two of us in here I'll have the breaky Special with a large OJ from Mexico.
I would like to ask the crew here a question. Have any of you ever dealt with this online company ? Great prices shown. Click on the link:

If this is legitimate, those are really good prices.. It is amazing what you can find when you should be sleeping.
PC. Great story about your son. He is a handsome fellow, just like his Dad. Thats what all the ladies tell me. Tell him he has our best wishes and we'll keep him in our prayers as well.
Jim; We as well have dealt with a CU. here for many years as one of our banks and have certainly had less trouble with them than the others. Good luck with yours.
Going to try and get some more sleep and then up for Church. Will stop back later to see what is said about that link.
Johnboy out..................
More tunnel liners were made last night, maybe will get them installed today.

Evening, Diners - Janie, how about a cup of hot cocoa, please? Thanks, Colby. Shhh... don't wake up Flashwave. We'll let him sleep till morning.
Wanted to say thank you again, to (Lee?/Ed?) for the Library of Congress link, and (forgot who) whoever posted the link to Ian Wilson's Topic of the Month articles. Those articles are like a bunch of little gold mines!
PC, congrats to your son (and I'm sure that you're just a teensy bit proud of him, right?) He must be doing a lot right, if he's guarding that big guy!
Jerry, I'd agree that your #2 daughter pretty much got visited by an . That is terrific news, after they've been without a car.
Went by the Credit Union this morning after laundry, and got some brochures (their drive-in window was all that was open, but the teller had a packet of the information handy). Next payday, I'll be taking some of the money over and open an account there.
Colby, good to hear of your progress on the layout (and hope you get a Saturday open so you can get to the LHS).
Lee, that's kind of funny that you got some potential employees and also people wanting to ship with the LS&W. The revised copy looks even better - but you might still get some more people contacting you. Maybe put an overall image of the LS&W on the home page?
Paul, you and Mary Ann maybe should have Ed drop off a tanker of his OJ via the UP for you. Need to get rid of those sniffles so you can go spoil Lara some more.
Well, I'd better head on out for now. Guess we'll hear later what kind of goodies Dick might have scored at the Amherst show. Prayers for a good night's rest and a warm spot to sleep in, as well as for peace and comfort for those in need of any of those.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Hey guys.
I got the most awesome idea ever.
I'm going to scratchbash my bachmann heavy mountain into a true SP MT-2. (If I do it, that is.) I am planning for SP #4388, the only MT-2 with a vandy tender, because it was wrecked and it got its new tender from a 4-10-2.
If anyone happens to have pics of it, that'd be a nice help.
Good evening.
Philip .... to your son. Thanks fo sharing the picture and telling us about the basketball game.
Der ....I've been enjoying seeing your layout progress.
Lee ..... I really like the updated write-up now. Perhaps this time you'll get even more resumes!
Happy Model Railroading.
Evening Gang:
Jerry: There are some very good generous people in the world. It's a shame that we usually get to hear about the bums. Give my best to your daughter and family.
Mitch that's great news about your mom. My continued prayers.
Dick I hope that you took your camera. I'd like to see pictures of you scores.
I spent the afternoon hauling more dirt for the new storage container. I got all the fill hauled so I'll get the Kabota and level the pad tomorrow. It's smaller and easer to do the fine work with. Mary Ann and I aren't going to go see Lara tomorrow since we both have the sniffles. We don't want to have the baby get sick.
Lee that sounds good to me. I'm not surprised that you've had contacts for services or jobs.
Rob hang in there. If you want to let off some steam drop me an E-mail.
Good Night All
FoulRift, Wow that was fast, I presume they made it in good order.
Philip, very cool, thanks for sharing the pictures.
Colby, I have 90 turnouts and I only paid $1 each. Most are #4. The double slips, 3-ways and Y's cost me $2 to $5 each. They are all brass track, but for sidings and the classification yard who cares? I picked up all these turnouts at garage sales and train shows over a 6 month period.
Terry nope didn't get the map, when you get a chance please try sending it again. If you're interested in great Lakes railroads I have a few on the HD.
ED, I loved the web site you shared, very interesting photos. Built in America http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/habs_haer/index.html is another of their links that focuses on factories, buildings, bridges, and railroad stuff.
Checking in again. You know Jeff, every time I see that PA, I keep expecting it to say "Texas Special"
Saw the RFD, I wasn't too impressed with the cameramn's job, but yeah, looks like a neat scenery.
We had Solo and Ensamble, Cascade VS guys took first. I'm just glad I was loopy enough to hit those notes with my fellow tenors. I'm going to take a nap on my desk now so if you need me, I'll be in the back booth asleep. Here's the rent girls.
G'night
-Morgan
Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Another beautiful day down here in Paradise. And it was cool (in the 60's all day) which made it even better, at least in my humble opinion.
Unfortunately naptime went bye-bye today. We got up real late (doesn't count as a nap if you go right back to bed after getting up to go to the bathroom), I spent time making a ‘cream of sweet potato' soup, and had to go help a friend in the afternoon. I'll admit that I was yawning uncontrollably by the time we left his house.
Dick - Happy Birthday!! Hope you enjoyed the train show.
Johnboy: I also feel left out with all of you going to all these train shows lately.
Guess I won't need a nap today. I slept right through until 11:00am. I couldn't believe it.
Mitch - good news about your Mom. Hope she continues to improve. EMOX, huh? Sounds interesting.
CG Jim - I second Mitch's recommendation of Credit Unions.
Jerry - that's almost unbelievable that someone was that generous to your daughter. Good for them.
Rob - sorry to hear about your problems. Eliminating stress was a big driver behind my early retirement.
PC - congrats to your son on playing. I'm sure he was pumped up.
Flip: Rfd did the Copper Canyon this morning. Modern pass. cars and a yellow caboose. Movie was shot from engine window. Could make out NdM on nose.
That's about it from down here.
Hasta mañana,
Ed
I need to be careful with this web site. The last one I posted received 2 inquires on providing switching services to a firm near Columbus, Ohio and about 6 resumes from people looking for jobs. I guess they didn't notice my employees were only 1" tall.
I took your suggestions and recommendations and ran them through Ginny (a retired high school English teacher) and Dale (his hobby is Great Lakes shipping/industry and transportation history) and this is the new draft:
The L. S. & W. is a fictional free lance HO (1:87) scale layout based along the lower Great Lakes during the 1940's and 1950's
The Lake Shore & Western is a regional rail operation that meets the delivery services required by a diverse group of customers. Our dedicated team of skilled employees and modern equipment throughout the Lower Great Lakes Region handles the shipment of over 120,000 carloads annually of a wide variety of products: coal, iron ore, agricultural products, salt, bulk cement, petroleum, metals and forest products promptly, economically and dependably, using state-of-the-art delivery.
From mining and steel conglomerates down to family-operated enterprises, the L. S. & W. has been meeting the passenger and freight needs of commuters and industrial customers competitively for more than 25 years."

Avenger- FEC bought the SD-40's from U.P. about 5 years ago. BLI has come out with decent models of them in 2 diff. numbers. The only blue engines I remember were GP40-2's. Earlier engines were Red and Yellow same colors as their Ortners.
