Hey guys! well I got some news! I got into the paper last week! I've been busy with midterms so I havn't had time to show you.
Good morning crew,
Chloe, I'll have a "Egg McVinnie" with cranberry juice (sorry Ed) Just a change of pace this morning.
Wellll, hang on gang, here it comes again. Another storm coming in from Alberta. It is blanketing most of Saskatchewan. No highway travel advised. Last word I heard was the roads were closed out of Saskatoon already. Only about 50 ft. of visibility between Regina and Moose Jaw. So get out those long red woolies again. It had been a nice week end here, but that didn't last long. The wind chills in Calgary and Edmonton today are to be around -40c,(which is the same at that temp as -40F). We will be a little more moderate, ha ha ha, at around the -30c.
Mark; Build that sea wall much higher and keep those Pacific storms out of our areas. I've noticed that Washington has really been hit with snow this past week. My son in Spokane says he believes they have had about 14" in the last few days. That stuff works it's way through and eventually ends up here and on CN Charlies door step as well. Enough is enough..
ED, don't you wish you were here ??? you would have to use those flouresenct red/orange golf balls.
It looks like Crandell pulled the plug on one of my posts. I guess my question was to close to the core here. Sorry about that. That was very early in the morning as I couldn't sleep night before last, but I probably wasn't fully awake either.
Well, back to the mole hole, to make more tunnel portals and liners, have about four more sets to make. I have found that with these moulds that I made, even thought they had six and seven layers of latex put on them, reinforced with some guaze, I still have to make the plaster very liquidy and pour it in to the moulds very gently. If the plaster is a little firmer then it pushes to mould out of shape. So I have had to redo some of them.
A good day to all, it sounds like a lot of fun has been had by those who got to the train shows.
Prayers and Blesing to those in need.
Johnboy out..................
Will have to put the plow pilot back on the "Wobbly" this morning.

A very good morning to you all,
It's a snowday. No school. 4 inches of the white fluff.
If there is a cinnamon roll left, I'll have it with... How about chocolate milk... sounds good.
Lee: I'll take a look at those kits but I felt like doing mine without much help by premade kits. I want to add stuff with brass and stryene, and such. Of course I will have to get some premade things, but not a whole bunch.
Mmm, cinnamon roll.

Hi again, Zoe - I'm back for the buffet; the croissant only held me over for a little bit.
Heartland Division CB&Q:Ozark........... You won't get much to eat if that's the case. Have you seen how JimCG eats? His swet tooth is on "vibrate" all of the time. I was reading JimCg's posts and this weekend he chowed down the cakes like there was no tomorrow. Now, he's already been into the breakfast rolls. It's like Jim only left crums. So you can tighten your belt.

Hey, hey, Garry - I'll have you know that was only four pieces of cake, not four cakes! Besides, my sweet tooth comes and goes. I think right now, I'm in my 'salty' tooth phase. Those cinnamon rolls' with that delectable icing hit the spot. You haven't forgotten that I usually bring in two boxes of the rolls, have you?
Bob K., sounds like a very good show for you and Dick both. That's one thing with train shows for me - trying to figure which items I want to get. My eyes tend to be bigger than my wallet. Anyone else had that difficulty at train shows? No?
Well, if you'll excuse me, I've filled my plate from the breakfast buffet and will be chowing down at the corner booth. Almost time for the morning local to come by, I think.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Good Morning..........

I was interested in posts from the Amherst Show attendees. Sounds like a great show.

Hi guys,
Had this great post about the show last night and some of the gremlins grabbed it and it disappeared into some dark hole or something before hitting post, go figure.
Well anyway, the show was great, actually seemed even better than usual. Maybe the post about "stale train shows" stuck in my head and I looked at it in a different light. It's hard to see everything in just one day.
Stopped by the Danbury Railway Museum table. It was a pleasure to meet J.R. And, yes Dick, Quite a distingushed gent (must be that good living that keeps you young). J.R. mentioned that you had stopped by on Sat. with your grandson. They do some great work in both 1:1 and small scale on the 3 layouts at the museum. I would really like to plan a visit to the museum one day, it is only under a 2 hour trip away. I'd probably be more enthused w/ J.R.s shop. I'm one of those gear heads from way back. A street muscle car and quarter mile fanatic. I thought for some reason that these hot little cars were J.R.s hobby- not, It's his profession.
Not as crowded as Saturday, but I can see that going around taking pics would have been tough. When I first got ther, we had to drop off 3 cases of our club car at the club table. The Cabot milk car, done by Roundhouse sold out quickly on Sat and despretely needed more. http://www.ssmrc.org/store.htm
As I had mentioned, we are always accross from Overland, and Tucker's Hobbies. In the Overland display case was this real beauty, a GP40-2 in the late phase Chessie C&O paint. While drooling over it they told me it was the last one left of that run. I was so tempted, but found it hard to spend $570 on it. They did have all of thier popular detail parts displayed and on hand for sale. I needed horns, F unit cooling coils and other misc parts to complete the WM circus F units I've been working on for some time. Just across from Overland was a custom painter. One engine caught my eye from accross the isle, a WM circus EMD, and on closer inspection knew it was newer Atlas, but saw only "B" trucks. The only recent loco in this paint is the Atlas SD35s, This was a GP40 custom painted, very nice work and decaling. Well for the $110 it was sold and in my shopping bag. Kind of took the edge off and I stopped glaring over to that Chessie in the Overland case. I think the Atlas runs far better than them anyway. (as I try to justify my actions)
The Hub Div was there as usual, a club member also belong to them. He had fun all weekend. Didn't find Alex (Guilford Guy), probably past each other all day. There was an incredible On3 layout, just love that scale. The dt=etail you can do in that scale is awsome. One "N" scale layout had some unbelievable bridges on many of the modules. As I looked at them all I could figure is doubling the size to HO. One steel span was oner 3' in N, 6' in HO. A concrete arched viaduct more than 4 ft long and a ME behind it spanning more than 3'. Absolutely great work on the scenery and details also.
So building after building and dealer after dealer. Poked in on some clinics hear and there. On tree making one reminded me of one at the club where 15 or so members were just popping out simple trees. Boy we still need thousand more, too.
Found the Chessie Historic Society hiding in the new 4th building next to Conrail. Did get a look at a pre production I-17 bay window caboose in resin. They didn't mind and said the traffic there was huge. I guess everyone needed to check out the addition of another building. Lot of Lionel, O and G scale there. The Better Living and Young buildings seem to be where most of the popular HO an N are.
Dick that outfit with the motorized liftgate is a Maine company, (Maine benchwork or something) similar to Siever's. The 4 heavy duty full extension drawer slides look just like the older KV or Blumn but they are longer than I ever use in standard cabinetry (about 30"). The telescoping post drive system is available separately as a kit. It seems to lift a good 26-28" anyway. My club is seriously considering using something like this to access the couble of yard and staging pits as we aren't getting any younger and some have trouble bending under the benchwork.
Wandering about, I stopped by Jelsma Graphics. Alway check them out for the good quality apparell and embroidering. No Chessie shirts or jackets, but had a few nice jackets in B&O. Didn't really have one in the Capital dome or other logo that a like, but he made a deal on the "Linking 13 States". Walked away wearing it.
Also picked up some scenery supplies and steel mill backdrops for the club steel mill. It is in desperate need of some feeling of depth and distance. Wraps all the way around the bend to the left.
Had a great day, the club table was busy. Many are always impressed with the sheer size of our layout (pics and video) and the facility housing it. Even though it needs so much more scenery to be done. (my bad, I'm working on it). Actually had already contacted Cripplebush and had our order ready to PU to finish that huge 12ft long cut. Hope to have it near completion by our spring show and open house in March. We'll see, I have many helping out.
Finished off the day with dinner at the Steaming Tender. May have to start keeping this "jewel" to ourselves. Saturday evening was their altime busiest day since opening 2+ years ago. We had a party of 12 and had to wait an hour. They actually ran out of hamberger, shrimp and ribs. Still had a good choice of the menu anyway. Two CSX freights went though the diamond and the Vermonter, I believe, flew through while there.
Paul: You can let the laws of physics aid you in placing those blocks. Try a length of 2x4 as a lever and a fulcrum block. You can step on the lever and kick the block under the leg. I do something like this quite often when replacing sills or fitting framing members, where actual jacking is impractical. Of couse I'll use a douglas Fir or PT 4x4 though.
Ed: been thinking of you, in "Paradise", as it is bone chilling here again. Saturday was not bad. No wind and almost got to 35 degrees. Today is going to be awful. I went to frame for an Andersen Frenchwood on the kitchen job and found termite damage. Didn't think it was too bad, until I removed the exterior cedar shingles. The sidewall is buried 6-8" below grade and part behing a brick step. Once excavated and broke out the step, 12' of 4x6 sill was totally gone, even the corner post of the kitchen is eaten up to almost 3 feet. The only reason the floor and wall is still supported is the lower finished basement room is a full studded wall holding the floor joists and the corner braces attached to the wall plywood is bracing the roof/ ceiling. What a mess, just love "Detours" like this. Was not *** only discouraged as this job is waiting for the plasterer.
Actually, I need to run, need to see what I can do at the job today. We got a few inches of snow, a dusting, and it is real cold. Don't know if I can open up such a gaping hole in the house in these conditions. I'll survive the cold, but the cast iron radiators and kitchen plumbing may not.
I'll get back to you. All have a nice day.

Morning Folks! Another chilly one at that! Chloe, how about a Lumberjack Special for breakfast this morning! On second thought Chloe, I'll just have some of Jim's Cinnamon Buns!
John Powell, sounds like everything is falling into place for your new house purchase.
Ed, that oyster stew sounds good, and with chili powder too! I bet that kicked it up a notch or two! And speaking of golf, watched Tiger Woods in the Buick event yesterday and he was -20 at one point.

I have to agree Rommel, now that is a great movie!
Jim, sorry about the bank issue, hopefully it will all get cleared up soon enough!
John Boy, those tunnels and mountains sounds like a fun project. I will have to tackle the same on the other side of my layout in the near future.
Mitch, great news about your mom, it is always great progress when a patient can sit up and eat!
Rob, sorry to hear about your health issues, hope that your conditions improve for you and the misses!
Lee, that intro for the web reads well for me!
Wow Jerry that is a blessing for your #2 daughter! The man should be commended for his generosity!
Terry, making scenery from scratch sure saves on money too don't it! Sorry to hear about your friends wife passing!

Phillip, congratulations for your son and the basketball game, I like the photo of him with the ball, reminds me of a photo of a famous Pro basketball player I saw years ago! And I guess we will have to build a gym next door with some Nautilus equip and treadmills to keep us in shape! Great news about the wife, she is making great progress!

Dick, thanks for the train show report, sounds like it was a great success for those who attended! I would love to make it to that one, but sadly this is Monique's busiest time of year at work and she would not be able to leave, and I don't travel well alone! Thanks for the Steaming Tender Restaurant link!

Good Morning All,
A regular and a donut please. Breezy and cold out this morning but it's just fine indoors thank you. Got back from the Amherst show in good order last night, put stuff away and turned in. Now to get back into the swing of things here in the shop. Had a great time at the show meeting Dick, John47 (think I got that right John) and Bob. Visited for quite a while with Bob and came away quite impressed with his knowledge and enthusiasm. Didn't ask to meet Paul3 the imperious and opinionated Mr. Cutler as I was just having too good a time. We sold out all our surplus layout parts we brought so that's good for the layout team. Got a couple of goodies for the museum including a device to stop our N gage passenger consist at the station automatically which will improve the ops on the display. If that works we'll try the back and forth device to be switch operated for a yard job on the same display. For myself I found a Keystone 44 Tonner kit and some tools plus the wireless conversion I've wanted for my Prodigy Advanced. It seems silly to use a wireless in the middle of a 12 x 12 layout but the truth is I was always on the end of the cable and often snagged it. Also went to the 87th scale vehicle mini convention and was hugely impressed by what I saw there - those folks are seriously out of control.
I've gotta run - see y'all laters. J.R.
Hoople, check out the IHC locomotive detail kits. Often you can pick them up on eBay. Be prepared to use a magnifying glass and 3 different types of tweezers on HO scale IHC locomotive detail kits. When it comes to detail kits IHC is the OCD of the model world.
Phil, there are settings in WindowsXP and Windows98 that will automatically change the font for you. You can tell the computer to change WebPages to a font you feel more comfortable in reading.
The L.S.& W. is based off the trackage and customer base of the former L.S. & M.S. (NYC water level route) railroad. It was a 4 track main that ran from Buffalo, NY to Chicago, IL, They also had a spider web of trackage in southern Michigan, and they had rail service to almost the WV and MD border in southern PA. I think the 120,000 cars annually is a little shy for the 1940-1950 era, I'm still doing research. NYC tried to compete with them by running a rail through Canada from Niagara to Detroit but in the end NYC bought them out.
ED, I just finished the DPM packing house for my layout if you need help sorting those oranges let me know.
Ok, back to work for me I'll check in later.

Howdy all- As I have been reading through the last 5 or 6 pages, I decided that with my eyesight it was easier to read greyfox's posts, so I'm gonna give it a try.
Spent the majority of the weekend primering the new room, finished it this AM, all it needs now is a paint job. The sooner it's painted, the sooner I can take over ...errrr, share, the old bedroom and build a layout.
FoulRift- Thanks for the offer to help with my avatar, I will try sometime this week to get an idea of what I want, and be in touch. But don't carve that timetable in stone, never seems to be enough time.......
JimRC- It always amazed me how fast a bank can screw up an account, and how slow they fix it. Hang in there, and remember, a complaining customer with a hand grenade gets results quicker than a .... awww, never mind.
LSWrr- That history of the LS&W sounds real good to me. BTW, your LS&W will handle a bunch more cars than my MIDWest will, it's gonna average about 12 cars a day, or about 5,000 a year. Sounds like your crews are going to be busy!
Of course, on the days when the Orange Juice Special runs through, that number will increase.
And speaking of Ed, thanks for the info on the LOC pix, and my AH games were "Stalingrad" and "Squad Leader", IIRC. I remember the hundreds of little 8 sided (I think) cardboard punch outs, with every possible type of Whermacht and Soviet armour, and the games taking so long to set up. But they were lot's of fun. Give me a unit of Mk VIs and it was ON! Simpler days, huh?
Welcome to the new folk in the diner, glad to see you in here.
Take care all, and stay warm.
Paul: I found out one thing real fast. I need help. I can't lift and place the blocks at the same time. Any volunteers?
I assume that you let Fran win. That would be good for relations.
Ed
Evening, Janie - how about a hot fudge sundae and a cup of coffee, please?
Thanks, LilJoe, and to the Diner!
Dick, sounds like a day well spent for you at the show. Now, if their next show is soon after the (alleged?) rebate check arrives, it could be an even better 'spent' show.
Corey, I'm sure it's frustrating with that time on your hands when you could be doing some MRR'ing, huh? I know it would be frustrating for me. Heck, when Dick was talking about all the kits he needs to be working on, it reminded me of all of my kits.
PC, good to hear your wife is continuing to feel better, and that your son (even with the sore muscles) is still enjoying playing in the game.
Paul, maybe you should check this page:
http://www.canadianbranchline.com/raisinga.htm
if you're "Raising the Layout" (title of the article). In the article, I think Ian Wilson was raising his about 6 inches, instead of 3 or 4, though.
Pretty good day today - after church, this afternoon the singles group had a surprise wedding shower for two (former) singles, who recently got married (Jan. 2nd, 2008). (Actually, I think it might be re-married) Good cake and punch, (they got some) good presents (cash, set of pots and pans, bath scented goodie set, etc.), and good friends. Ate too much cake (hey, I only had four pieces of cake and three cups of punch)!
Well, guess I'd better finish up my sundae and get heading for home. Prayers for those not in need of comfort and healing.
Evening Gang: I actually have started raising the layout. After 4 years of saying I was going to do it. I got a couple of sections raised up by one 2x4 block, that's 1.5 inches. I found out one thing real fast. I need help. I can't lift and place the blocks at the same time. Any volenters? I did find one section that I never bolted together. The two sections set on an old display case so didn't move any. Now I can't get under them to bolt them together which is probably why they are that way. I have moved everything off the layout that I could so there is no un-need weight.
Ed I assume that you let Fran win. That would be good for relations.
Mary Ann and I went into see the baby. We were over the sniffles so wern't worryed about invecting the little one. We got there just as one of the nurses was giving her a bottle. When she was done she let Mary Ann hold Lara. Mary Ann held her for about 45 minutes untill her arm started to get sore. She's out of practice.
I never did get back to the chores. Well tomorrow is another day. Speaking of tomorrow I need to go see Tony. He may have moved to the hospice ward. I may wait untill Tuesday when he is moved.
Well I guess I'll head for the showers.
Good Night All
Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,
Another beautiful day down here in Paradise. Stayed in the 70's, which was quite alright with me. Supposed to start warming up tomorrow and is forecast to be in the 80's all week. Not to worry, I have my finger on the a/c switch, so I'm prepared.
A typical lazy Sunday, with a (very) late out of bed time, a big breakfast of bacon and eggs (eggs fried in the bacon grease, of course), and a quick nap. Then Fran and I headed back out to the golf course and played another 9 holes. Crowded today, with one other player on the course. I still played like a turkey, but Fran really liked her new driver.
Lee - thanks for the link. I've added it to my ‘favorites'. It will take time to browse through all that info.
Jerry: ...and were under a boil order...
Bob K - nice to see you stopping by again. Hope you enjoyed the show.
Dick - sounds like the train show worked out well for you. Seems like they really do a bang up job. That's huge. I hear you about tightening up the budget this year due to stock market declines. We're definitely going to adjust down a bit ourselves. I'm not counting on ever seeing that check.
Garry: ............good luck then with freight service for the PA....... the prototypes did that too. They were passenger engines, but they could pull a freight train well...
Liljoe - welcome to the Coffee Shop/Diner.
Corey - I must have been away when you dropped in before, so I'll say welcome, even if this isn't your first visit.
That's about it for now, folks.
Hasta mañana,
Welcome to more Newbies. Always room for more. Thanks for the offer but as it is getting close to my bedtime, I'll just have tea with honey.
Prayers for all.

it was the reception actually. I remember being embarrased as I had a dance with a girl i didn't know, and was a typical 6 yr old boy I think it was at night, but we were by during the day to check it out and I played on the speeders that were on display and oggled over the massive self propelled tie replacer/ballaster/thingy. Greetings folks. I haven't stopped by for a while. I've been reading your posts, I just don't have much to say.
I have been planning how I will execute my quasi dream layout. I say quasi because it's actually a fairly conservative size. I am going to model the downtown rail corridor of Mankato Minnesota during the 50's. This will include a large passenger depot, small yard, team track, a few rail served industries, and a large grain terminal. I am also attempting to add elements of a business district named Front street. This was the main drag downtown.
To achieve a certain amount of credibility, I will need to use two of my four wall sections to model Mankato. My inspiration for this project was a trestle outside of my hometown, so I have to use a third section for that element. The one thing I'm losing is open rural running. Oh well, I'm more excited to do downtown than the rural area anyway.
My business is closing on Thursday, so I have plenty of time to plan this new adventure. The kicker is not being able to get a job before we move. We aren't moving for a few months. To make matters worse, all of my train stuff is packed away! I'm working on getting my wife to let me purchase the depot kit. That would give me something to do for a while. What a waste, I'll never have this much free time again.
I hope everyone has a good week.
Lee-I already have an idea on how I am going to use the cars but I don't want to reveal too much right now. And YES! they were more that I expected and seeing that I am modeling in the 50's they fit the era.
Well me and the reaper got to go now.For some reason I'm feeling a little uncomfortable in here so I'll just say TTFN-FoulRift

I can nail the sport cab and skyline casing together, with a bonus tender, with this link (WARNING! VERYBIGGG PICTURE!!!) that's the MT-3 the dendant to the engine your modeling. it appears to be the same cab and top as the GS4s
Still working on your headlights, the main drive has something to do with the way the drive rods connected to one-another. if you aren't good with cutting precisely, i'd leave the driverods alone. Else you risk the engine never running properly.
